I've been a bit writers-blocked where the next proper chapter of this is concerned, so since I wrote this recollection a little while back I decided to polish it up and bring it forward instead. It's a fitting one to have now, considering that in just over a week it is actually Valentine's day. I probably could have waited until then for this, but I have a side project I am hoping to be able to get up then. For reasons. And yes I have had a fair few side projects lately but I can assure you that at least for now there isn't gonna be another Luciform situation.
Anyway, please enjoy!
When Yuri opened the door for me, I bounded straight into the room and made a beeline for the desk where the eighteen bears were lined up, waiting for their baskets and the chocolates that would go in it. It was pretty easy to tell whose was whose, even without the little bits of scrap paper Yuri had put next to each one to make it easy for us to assemble them. For example, the rainbow flowers were obviously Moeka while rainbow splodges were Katsuya. The white bear with red kitsune-mask-like markings was Rin, while the pale yellow one with the biggest and cutest eyes was very much obviously Kiran's. There were three made out of fabric with traditional kimono-y patterning, but one was with butterflies so that was clearly Lilian's, and Sen'ya was definitely NOT a pink cherry blossom person so that left the blue cloud one as his.
"Wow, they're so good sis!" I exclaimed.
"Oh, they're just my basic plush bears, nothing special really."
"Well, yeah, but you made them Yuri, that means they're the best and-ooooh chocolate!"
I gawped at the chocolates that were on the desk, each in clear packets. They were from a shop on the other side of town that did chocolates all year around-all sorts of different shapes to mix and match for all sorts of occasions, not just Valentine's Day. Yuri had said it was the perfect place to go for us to get tomo-choco, so she had gone and organised it. Probably others in the class would be going to the same shop-after all, Katsuya and Moeka had said in homeroom a few weeks ago that nobody was obliged to get giri-choco for anyone. If they wanted to make a confession, then that was all fine and dandy but tomo-choco, given only if willing, was okay too. Oh well, it didn't matter. Our Valentine's Day gifts were going to be THE BEST EVER!
"Yuuuuuuri, they look sooo gooooooood."
I pouted at her impressively, almost practically drooling, but she had her stern, important-grown-up business face on.
"No, Yuki, we can't eat them." She said, shaking her head. "What will we give to them if you eat them? We don't have time to go back for more."
"Awww…."
"Anyway," Yuri said. "You have the baskets right?"
At that, I grinned, and rolled up the sleeves of my hoodie before presenting the bag I'd had all this time.
"Yuuuup!" I said. "They're all here!"
I took each of the baskets out, and placed them in front of the bear they were meant to go with-in the same way Yuri had made each bear match the person it was going to, I'd made the baskets match too, so they were all different colours and patterns. Once they were laid out, I reached for the nearest one-Kimiko's in pastel shades-and pressed the decorative pattern on its belly.
"Happy Valentine's Day, friend! Love from Yuri and Yuki!"
I grinned-our voices were clear and not tinny or staticy, and it didn't glitch. It had worked exactly as I wanted it too. I looked over at Yuri, and she was smiling too.
"You did good too, Yuki. Come on now, let's get everything assembled!"
So we sat down and worked together to attach the little baskets to the bears' arms, making sure that they were secure but still able to be easily detached if they wanted to do so once they received the bears. Once that was done-which was super easy, of course-we then put each packet of chocolates into the cute little gift bags that I had bought (I had wanted Yuri to do it but she said she was too busy to, but it wasn't too bad, it wasn't like boring grown up shopping for boring grown up things-these gift bags and ribbons were so sparkly and cool). Then, ribbon was tied around each bag in a little bow, and each bag was put in the basket.
"There, all done!"
Yuri stood up and stepped back to admire them, and I copied her. I'd made so much more amazing things-I was going to do something super cool for a friendship version of White Day, involving chocolate dispensers, for example. But at the same time this was definitely something to be proud of.
"They're amaaaaaazing!" I laughed. "These are going to be the best ever, right? Everyone will love them?"
"I'm sure they well!" Yuri beamed. "I couldn't have done it without you, Yuki!"
"Of cooourse you couldn't."
"Anyway, I think we should go get some dinner now-I think most the others will be in the canteen."
"FOOOD!"
Yuri didn't need to tell me anymore-I hurtled straight out.
