A/N Thanks for your reviews and support.
freemankb2002: thanks for your review, my friend. I'm so glad you've enjoyed it! I've updated Destiny a few times recently. I hope you have enjoyed them.
Izuku's POV
Children lay sat all across the warehouse. Some were taking the medicine they had returned with. Others were updating supply lists and checking to see if anything else was needed.
They were supposed to go on a large raid that night. Izuku was trying to decide who would go. Really they should have all hands on deck. Winter would soon be upon them and if they didnt get the necessary supplies they wouldn't survive.
The two biggest things they needed were blankets and space heaters. With the group as large as it currently was they needed a space heater or two. Blankets and fire alone wouldn't be enough to stave off the weather.
According to the weather, reports winter would begin early this year. It was supposed to get colder than it had in decades. The previous years had been fairly warm all things considered. With their small numbers, they had never needed space heaters.
Moving those would require extra hands. With more than half of their runners sick with the flu; it would be difficult to get everything they needed in one run. The risk of getting caught would only multiply if they tried to do multiple runs.
Drumming his fingers across his leg he considered the options. Multiple runs would be the most efficient but the most dangerous. They could try and get everything in one run but that might mean using the sick. Or they could try to hit multiple spots at once. Using one as a decoy to distract the heroes.
That could work. Have Katsuki and Nero lead the main teams while he led a smaller group. His group would be the distraction and keep the heroes busy. It would need to be made up of faster and more slippery members.
Alec would be a good choice. As would Darren one of their new members. Both were light on their feet and could easily outwit heroes. Without Nero around, he didnt want to risk bringing Max. He would send Max with Katsuki.
With his decision made he went around and tapped each of them on the shoulder. They moved to the leader's corner where they wouldn't be disturbed.
Katsuki inquired the moment they sat down, "What's the plan, Izuku? More than half of the kids are sick and I think a few are trying to hide it."
Izuku rubbed at his eyes tiredly as he ordered, "We go tonight. Katsuki you and Nero take a small group that you know are NOT sick. No more than five. Take the bags with you fill them with as many blankets as possible. Then get at least two space heaters if you can."
It was supposed to be a larger group but with so many sick he couldn't risk it. If the sky was any indication earlier then the weather was going to turn nasty soon. They had to be prepared.
Alec asked his eyes looking Izuku up and down appraisingly, "What about you King? What will you be doing?"
"I'll be leading the heroes off in the other direction," he replied, "Alec j want you with me. We need to buy Katsuki as much time as we possibly can."
Several harsh wet coughs sounded from the other side of the warehouse. The sick were getting worse. He hoped the medicine would work soon. If it didnt they might have to take some of the kids to the hospital. That would bring questions that they couldn't answer.
Alec asked nervousness in his eyes, "Just us? What about fighting the heroes? Alone we aren't strong or coordinated enough to fight them."
Izuku sighed, "They will focus on me. If it gets to the point they corner me I want you to run. You cannot risk everyone to save me. This is an absolute order as the King of Thieves."
They rest stiffened and looked away. It had only happened twice before that he put in absolute order. Both times they had been backed into a corner. Both times he had gotten them out as long as they followed his orders.
Katsuki folded his arms across his chest as he growled, "What if you get cornered Izuku? Wolfy won't be able to save you from several heroes."
Izuku sighed, "We will address that if it happens. Katsuki, I need KEM out there making sure we get our supplies. We will not last the winter without those heaters and blankets. The kids are our first priority."
Katsuki went as stiff as aboard. Izuku knew that saying that was a low blow. All of them cared more about the kids than themselves. It was why they risked everything to get supplies. Why they risked getting caught by taking in new kids.
"Understood, KOT," intoned Katsuki.
With that, they broke to get some sleep and form a team. Izuku laid out on his sleeping bag trying to ignore the harsh coughing. His kids were ill and he has done all he could for the moment. That thought didnt make it any easier to listen to.
When nightfall came he and the others geared up. Izuku chose his usual cloak and falcon pin. It represented who he was within the group. To the heroes, it was a sign of the King of Thieves. Only Katsuki knew the truth of it.
The golden falcon pin was the only thing that remained of his past. His mother gave it to him on his third birthday. She said that it had belonged to his father. He asked her to give it to him when he was old enough.
Sometimes he would sit out on the rooftop staring at it. The gold heavy in his hand reminded him that he was alive. That he had not died somewhere out in the streets. There were times when he couldn't feel anything. Times where the others would have to remind him he was alive. Or he would pull off the pin and let it anchor him.
Izuku vaguely wondered if his father would be proud of him. Sure he was a thief but it was for a good cause. He was also technically a vigilante when he was rescuing children. Most parents would be upset to learn that their child took that path. Not knowing his father allowed his imagination to run wild. There were many things that the man could think.
As Katsuki reminded every time he got caught up in those thoughts. The man wasn't there. No one had a right to judge them. They did what they had to, to survive.
With his cloak on Izuku grabbed his quiver full of freshly sharpened arrows and slung it over his back with his bow. A knife went into the sheath at his hip and he was ready. It was now or never.
Looking up he found Katsuki and a group of five waiting. They were all in similar attire ready to do what had to be done. Alec appeared his shoulder tapping him on the arm to alert him that he was ready.
Taking a breath Izuku began, "Tonight is the most important run we've had in a while. Stick together and be safe. Whatever you do make sure you all get back in one piece."
"Yes!"
Tsukauchi's POV
He hid in one of the corner alleys as the heroes flushed King and the wolf quirk boy towards them. The moment a sighting call had gone out they implemented the new plan. A set of heroes would flush the members towards Naomasa and his underground hero allies. Using the daylight heroes to chase would make the Lost Children believe that was it. With any luck, they would be able to catch at least one tonight.
Eraserhead was hiding in a window sill above him. Miss Joke and two others were just around the corner. Officers had blocked off most of the escape routes while remaining out of sight.
Nighteye had sent a message confirming the number of children which was two and that the King of Thieves was one. Ingenium was doing most of the maneuvering while the others were keeping paths blocked. So far things were going to plan but he knew it could with a moment's notice.
Two dark figures swung into the alley heads on a swivel trying to find a way onto the rooftops. That's when he and Eraserhead made their move. Immediately Naomasa lunged for the King his gold pin making him the obvious target. While Eraserhead launched his capture scarf at the wolf.
King blocked his quick jab and returned it with one of his own. Neither of their quirks would be helpful in this situation. Naomasa's being lie detector and King's being erasure by touch. The daylight heroes were quick to cut off the alley to prevent escape.
Both boys immediately put their backs together. Eyes assessed them from the darkness.
Naomasa stepped forward and declared hoping to end it before someone got hurt, "Come on kids. This game of cat and mouse is over. You have nowhere left to run and you're outnumbered."
The wolf boy whispered just barely loud enough for them to hear, "KOT got a plan for this?"
Naomasa could see the knife in the boy's belt and the bow across his back. With such tight quarters, it would be difficult to get a shot off with the bow. The knife on the other hand could do some serious damage. Being outnumbered though should prevent the boy from making this worse on himself. Right?
King's eyes flashed going between the adults again. Anger was clear in them. He didnt like being played and drawn into a trap. Naomasa could almost feel for the boy if he had not spent all this time trying to bring them in.
Eraserhead stepped forward his mouth open to say something. They didnt get the chance to find out what it was. King moved like lighting striking out at Eraserhead. Eyes flashed red as the boy's hand made contact.
Then everyone within a few feet of the two staggered back including Naomasa. The part of his mind that was always active was suddenly silent. It was as if Eraserhead had turned his gaze upon him. When the two disengaged the feeling returned. There was no way that could be what he thought it was. It was supposed to be a myth.
Ability synchronization. There was a two-part activation for it to happen supposedly. The first two individuals had to have the same quirk. Apparently allowing for small variations he realized as the two stared at each in shock. The second requirement was they had to be soulmates. It had been tested on those who were not soulmates and nothing like that happened before. Then again it was barely more than speculation considering the only case was reported over 100 years ago.
"KOT? What the hell was that?"
"I don't know," the boy shakily replied looking sick.
Truth. So he really didnt know what was happening either. There was an angry screech above them suddenly.
Naomasa looked up and was just able to bring his arm up to protect his face when a falcon attacked him. There was a flash of silver on its wings and he knew they were right. The silver winged falcon did belong to the King.
He hissed in pain as deep scratches went down his arm. The falcon it seemed came ready to defend its master.
The boy called out fear lacing his voice, "AIDEN!"
The falcon returned to him but even in the darkness, he could feel its dislike for him. Naomasa watched as the two boys brought their backs against the far wall. They were trying to put distance between them and the heroes.
Fatgum tried to reason with King, "King we have no wish to harm you or your friends. Just surrender now. You have nowhere else left to run."
Out of everyone there, Naomasa and Fatgum probably had the best relationship with the Lost Children. They gave chase and tried to capture them but never had they hurt the kids. Fighting with the other heroes left bruises and marks from the battle. Eraserhead was practically unknown to them. He had met a handful of the Lost Children but only used his capture weapon so as not to injure.
The three of them had the best chance of talking down King and his accomplice. Otherwise, it would lead to a battle royal and the kids would get hurt. That would only lead to hard feelings and difficulty earning trust.
Then there was the feeling of unknown eyes upon them. It was coming from above them. Not one of his men or one of the Lost Children if he had to guess. They would have taken advantage immediately. Who...
He never got to finish that thought as a flashbang was dropped and exploded blinding them. A heartfelt laugh entered the air and a spike of dread went through Naomasa. Anyone who paid attention to the news knew that laugh.
A phantom thief by the name of Kaito Kid. Damn it all to hell. What was he doing here?
When his vision cleared he and the heroes saw the man in white. It was just as they all saw on the news. One who would come without warning then disappear after getting his prize. He made fools out of the police just as the Lost Children did. Except he was supposed to be in France with Thief Lord. What in the hell was he doing back in Japan?!
