Tsukauchi's POV

Waiting for the Lost Children was nerve-wracking. They didnt know if the kids would set them up. If they did there was still the original plan of using the trackers. He would give King and KEM a chance though.

As agreed only himself, Nighteye and Fatgum were waiting at the meeting spot. They were both in their hero gear and they were just as hesitant as he was. They wanted to believe that the kids were being truthful. They had been betrayed too many times before. Just as the kids didnt trust the heroes. The heroes didnt trust the kids. It was because of the things they had seen and done.

Right at the agreed-upon time KEM and the few other leaders walked in. A notable one was missing and Naomasa's heart sank. He knew what happened earlier in the evening. The only explanation for King to be missing from this meeting was that he injured. Severely injured if his stubbornness was true.

KEM said something to the other leaders and they moved into the corners. Eyes watched them suspicion clear in their eyes. They returned the looks with unjudging eyes. Coming unarmed was brave and slightly arrogant. However, in KEM's eyes, there was something else in his eyes. It wasn't suspicion like with the others.

Naomasa took a long moment to realize it was exhaustion. The same exhaustion that he saw every time he looked in the mirror after a bad case. No child should have that look in their eyes.

He greeted formally, "Greetings KEM and the rest of Lost Children. You asked us here to make a deal correct? Where is King of Thieves? Should he not be here?"

There was no doubt in his mind that King was injured and back at their hideout. It made the most sense. KEM was a strong fighter but a negotiator he was not.

KEM pulled down his cowl and threw back his hood. Unkempt white-blond hair fell into the teenager's red eyes. It was then he realized just how young the boy was. He couldn't have been more than a middle schooler.

So young but yet held so much pain in his eyes. These kids weren't criminals not really. They were just kids who had fallen off the correct path. If the look in Nighteye and Fat Gum's eyes were anything to go by then they agreed with him.

KEM replied tiredly, "King is unconscious and there is a dangerous rattling in his chest. It's not just him either. Many of the younger kids are sick from the flu and it's on its way to being pneumonia. We aren't prepared to handle such a disease. They could die without treatment. Its why we came to you."

"Allowing us to take you in would be the first step," began Nighteye, "There is a good chance that your group will be separated."

KEM shrugged but there was a pain in his eyes. That's when he realized that the boy thought he was going to jail. If they were older then there might have been a chance. Given their ages though he was pretty sure they would get probation. It could probably be lowered if they stayed with heroes.

Fat Gum explained mirroring Tsukauchi's thoughts, "Giving yourselves up as you have will look better on you. The younger children and those who didn't fight will be found good homes. I think with heroes' recommendation and protection you will most likely get probation. This would make it possible for you to go to hero schools should you want to."

He watched as the children exchanged glances. Then one of the older children said, "We want an agreement that no matter than the age of the Lost Children we will go to approved homes or get probation. King and I should have to be the ones to approve who they go to. So that they don't go back into abusive homes. Some of us have been hurt far more than others. Those who get probation must agree with the hero they are put with."

Nighteye said easily, "That's agreeable. I will put my reputation as a hero on it. If there is nothing else then we should pick up the sick now before they get any worse."

Again there was the briefest of hesitation in KEM's eyes. Then the boy growled sounding like his usual self, "Follow me. Know if you betray us you will regret it."

Naomasa held back a sigh. It progressed not much but still, it was some progress. The three of them followed KEM out into the streets. He was allowed to make a call for ambulances and an address for them to meet with them.

They were taken to an abandoned warehouse. Outside more officers and paramedics. Naomasa gave quiet orders for his officers to stay outside and not to touch the kids. Inside they found children wrapped up blankets. Some were trying to rally them into a cohesive group.

KEM snapped like a rabid dog, "Everybody we have come to an agreement with the police. Move outside so the paramedics and answer the questions you can. Older kids help the younger. Remember to stay together in at least groups of two. No one should be left alone. Understand?"

"YES, KEM!" The kids who could yelled. Others just muttered it but more still were unconscious or too sick to even speak.

From there he went straight to the green-haired child who was unconscious on the ground. For a moment that he thought it was just another one of the sick children. Until he caught sight of the golden emblem on his chest. So that was the King of Thieves he looked far younger than Naomasa expected. He was maybe thirteen or fourteen. They thought the King would be older based on his maturity levels.

He went over to check the boy and as he came closer he could hear the rattling. That was not good at all. Naomasa was sure now that they didnt get all of the water from his lungs. Damn, he needed a hospital immediately.

Naomasa pulled the child into his arms before standing. KEM watched his eyes never leaving his leader.

He promised the kid, "I will make sure he gets the treatment he needs. If you want you can ride with us to the hospital."

"I can't leave him. We've always been together," answered KEM brokenly. It tore at the detective's heart. There was more to their story than what he knew. That much was obvious. Answers could wait though. The children's health came first and foremost.

Katsuki's POV

Waiting for Izuku to wake up was driving him insane. The doctors put him on antibiotics to handle the infection. So far though he had not woken up and it was the afternoon after the surrender. Already many of the kids had found homes with officers or retired heroes.

Nero was introduced to Hawks after it was revealed that they were soulmates. Nero was understandably wary of the 3rd ranked hero. Still, he agreed to meet with the man and talk. Considering neither returned yet it was a good sign. Nero had little patience for those who annoyed him.

Ingenium had been the most interesting hero so far. He offered the use of his agency to allow those who had not found a family to stay with him. There was always at least one hero and sidekick around so it wasn't like the kids would be alone. That was something he could respect with the hero.

Only three of their kids needed to stay in the hospital after getting medicine to take. Most were sent directly with Ingenium and would be fine once the infection cleared. The three that did stay wouldn't have any lasting damage. It just required them to spend a few days in the hospital.

Alec was with Fatgum. It was interesting to watch the two hit it off. Their personalities complimented each other perfectly. Jason chose to stay with the children who had not found places yet. There were still too many that were terrified that they would be going back to their abusive families. If the police tried that he would show them why KEM stood for King Explosion Murder. Raising a hand to a child was unforgivable. He would not allow them to be hurt because people were too stupid to see what was happening.

Katsuki had to admit the strangest thing he had seen so was that Tsukauchi had not left Izuku's side so far. It wasn't that he thought they would runoff. No, it almost seemed as if he was worried about Katsuki's best friend. Even now the detective was asleep in a chair next to the bed.

He wasnt the only one who was worried either. Twice Nighteye had come to check on Izuku. Golden eyes watched with intrigue as Katsuki kept a protective watch. An unfamiliar place meant they normally would take shifts on who was standing watch. With Izuku unconscious that fell upon him.

A ringing sound brought his attention away from his thought. Tsukauchi startled awake before struggling to find his phone.

When he pulled it out there was only a quick check of the caller id before he answered gruffly, "Tsukauchi," there was a short pause before relief crossed his face, "Thanks for all your hard work, Sansa. I'll tell them."

With that, he disconnected the call and stuffed the phone back in his jacket. Katsuki only had to wait a moment before the man said, "Good news the Police and Hero Commissions have agreed for you and the other leaders to be placed on probation. There is a catch however beyond staying with heroes for the year of your probation. You and King must agree to go to a hero school preferably UA."

Honestly, that was better than he was expecting. At least they weren't being forced to be trained by the Hero Commission. That would have been an absolute disaster. It wasnt like he had to wait for Izuku to wake up to agree either. He knew what the other would say to the agreement. As long as the kids could live normal lives then they would agree. The kids came first after all.

Katsuki replied calmly, "I know what he will say so I'll answer for both of us. We agree."

"I agree as well," croaked a familiar voice that had both Katsuki and the detective startling in surprise. Izuku was awake and staring at them with an unreadable expression.

Katsuki breathed, "Thank god you're awake."

"How long have I been out?"

Tsukauchi answered before Katsuki could, "A little more than 12 hours now. You are lucky we got to you when we did. Pneumonia was just beginning to set in with them and you could have drowned with the water that was in your lungs still. Speaking of which I need to get the doctors."

It was somewhat amusing to watch his friend and brother be poked and prodded by the doctors. Usually, when someone was sick that was his job. To see him have to ensure his own treatment brought a small smile to Katsuki's face.

The good cheer however did not last. There was still too much uncertainty on where he and Izuku would go. Most likely they would be separated to prevent them from organizing an escape. Not that an escape would do them any good.

Neither he nor Izuku were stupid. They knew that getting the flu and pneumonia was only the start of their problems. All of the kids and leaders had a lengthy checkup. Every single one of them were suffering from moderate to severe malnutrition. The worst of it being with Izuku and Katsuki. Their internal organs were suffering because of it. It would take months for them to get their internal balance back.

When the doctors were satisfied Tsukauchi was allowed back in the room. The detective took back his seat next to the bed. For a long few moments, they stared at each other silent. Izuku was propped up on the pillows to make breathing easier.

Tsukauchi said rubbing a hand tiredly down his face, "Now that you're both awake I have a few questions about your past. The heroes who are fostering the others will get their stories but we still need yours. I was able to find out that both Izuku Midoriya and Katsuki Bakugo have open missing person cases on them. The file for you Bakugo have a fairly thick file where they actually tried to search for you. According to your file Midoriya, you're quirkless and they only did a small investigation. That I will be looking into later because quirk discrimination is illegal. The thing is we all know that you have an erasure quirk similar to Eraserhead's."

Izuku replied his voice still rough, "Our parents abandoned us. Katsuki because of his attitude and myself because my quirk came in late. I'm not surprised that no one looked for me. The only one who really cared was Katsuki. My mom was a single parent and I never knew my dad. He disappeared not long after I was born."

Katsuki gave a short nod not yet speaking. He wanted to see what would be said before he put his two cents in. Besides Izuku was better at speaking than he was. It was why he was King and Katsuki wasn't.

Tsukauchi tapped his fingers on the outside of his leg in though. It took a moment but eventually, he said, "Midoriya I have been approved to foster you. Ingenium has offered you and the other kids to use his training rooms. Bakugo, Best Jeanist has offered you a place with him."

Izuku questioned carefully, "What about Eraserhead? I'm not stupid. What happened when I touched him and his quirk was activated wasn't normal."

There was a soft sigh before the man explained, "Ability synchronization. It's an extremely rare occurrence that happens between soulmates with similar quirks. For now, you can meet with him after he is done at the school for the day. The Commission doesn't want you to stay with him for the moment."

That made sense. As soulmates with similar quirks, they would be stronger together. For now, though the two boys would abide by the rules. If it came down to it they could disappear again.
