Shirou, Fiona, Bean and Bark were standing in a hangar littered with the bodies of humans and overlanders of the Eurish Dark Egg Legion chapter. Shirou stared at the corpses sadly wondering if any of them even had a choice. Fiona noticed and put a hand on his arm to console him. They had expected only badniks to be here. Their somber moment was however interrupted by Eggman appearing on a monitor.
"This is your first and final warning cease what you're doing immediately and surrender." Exclaimed Eggman from the screen of the Egg Monitor.
"Look Baldy McNosehair's on TV! Is he recording?!" shouted Bean as he climbed on the monitor and got his face in front of the camera.
"Hey, Stop That!" shouted Eggman.
Then all Eggman could see on the other end was the inside of Bean's mouth.
"Now that's disgusting." said Eggman.
"Remember me Eggman?" asked Fiona with a vengeful grin that showed her canines. While Eggman was from an alternate zone he still had a similar history to the original Robotnik so it was the next best thing.
"No." said Eggman flatly.
"Oh, really? Try to remember, use your brain for this one. Do you remember a scared little kit that you made a robot replica of then left to rot in a prison cell like a toy you got bored with?"
"Oh! When I made that Auto-automaton and later used it to romance Tails and lure him into a trap! I'm surprised you ever managed to escape." He said giving her a snide grin.
"Revenge is a bitch Eggman! And I'm the baddest bitch there is!" she shouted before shooting the monitor with her pistol.
…
Then in another room containment units filled with liquid were emptying to reveal androids that looked almost exactly like Shadow the Hedgehog. However among them was another containment unit holding a robot sonic with a single cyclopean eye which began to glow as it activated.
Meanwhile
After Shadow had helped Tails steal back some rings from Eggman the Black Arms appeared to be retreating into the forest, but he had learned via Doom's Eye that it had been a tactical withdrawal after the Black Arms had completed their planet-side objectives. He then worked with Rouge to help G.U.N. fight the aliens. Now he was currently with Tails again whom he brought to a G.U.N. outpost to build a space ship to go to the Black Comet in order to stop Black Doom. As they walked into the engineering bay they found Hope Kintobor doing repairs on a vehicle.
"Tails!" Hope shouted as she hugged Tails.
"I'm so sorry I wasn't there when Knothole was destroyed." she said to Tails with tears in her eyes.
"It's okay, it wasn't your fault. No one knew that was going to happen." Tails explained consolingly.
"Shadow told me something similar but I still felt bad about it." Hope said sadly.
"So, how have things been since I left?" she asked attempting to cheer herself up.
"Well … things have gotten complicated since you've left. We've had three betrayals, Nicole got reprogrammed by the Iron Queen for a while, Ixis Naugus took over New Mobotropolis until we kicked him out, Eggman went on a rampage and tried to rewrite reality twice, Sally got Roboticized, Antoine got put in a coma and Bunnie ran away after getting her limbs back." Tails said with a nervous grimace.
Hope looked absolutely distraught and remained silent for a few seconds. Then she made a decision.
"After I'm done here I'm moving to New Mobotropolis. I want to live with you again." Hope declared with a determined look in her eyes.
This caused Shadow to look at Hope sadly.
"Well, for now I'm going to make a spaceship for Shadow and I to go and fight the aliens that are invading." Tails stated.
"I can help." Hope said enthusiastically.
Back with our band of mercenaries
"Uh … Why do those robots look like Shadow?" asked Shirou as the Shadow Androids approached.
The Shadow Androids were accompanied by Egg Pawns and a Sonic robot they didn't recognize. Then Eggman spoke via the intercom.
"Introducing Mecha Sonic MK. II, I made him using data from when Sonic had been roboticized then made a few improvements to the blueprints resulting in the unstoppable weapon of death before you. The Shadow Androids are a new favorite of mine I created after collecting data on Shadow each one is powered by a Chaos Drive to replicate Shadow's abilities. But that's enough about me let's kill you!" announced Eggman.
Meanwhile with Eggman
Orbot and Cubot started to feel anxious as over the past few days Eggman had started to renew production of older badnik models or make new ones in the style of the old badniks. It first started with the Shadowbots and Egg Pawns but then he developed Rhinotanks and Giant Caterkillers. They were starting to grow concerned.
"Um … Boss are you okay?" asked Cubot.
"Hmm?" asked Eggman as he turned to look at them.
"You've started to develop a bizarre fixation on outdated models." stated Orbot.
"My motives are none of your concern!" shouted Eggman in response brushing them off.
The two robot lackeys looked to each other nervously.
Back with Shirou and Fiona
Fiona fired the semi-automatic rifle at the Shadow Androids and Egg Pawns before dodging the attack of an Egg Hammer attempting to crush her. Bean was throwing bombs at the Egg Flappers and blowing them up. Bark was fighting an Egg Hammer while Shirou had enhanced his reflexes with reinforcement to dodge a spin dash from Mecha Sonic while he cut down a Shadow Android with Kanshou and Bakuya. Shirou had attempted to use reinforcement on his arrows to penetrate Mecha Sonic's chassis but they kept bouncing off, this was taking far too long. Then he had an idea.
"Alright everyone clear out! I'm going to pull out the big guns." he said.
"How big are we talking?" Fiona asked.
"I blew up a cemetery with it once." he said which was technically true.
Fiona then told the others to clear the room.
After gaining a fair bit of distance he projected his bow along with Caladbolg II and turned it into an arrow with alteration. He then aimed at Mecha Sonic as it flew in the air charging an energy blast.
"Caladbolg!" he shouted before releasing the arrow.
As the arrow flew through the air Mecha Sonic fired the energy blast. However the arrow created a twisting distortion in space allowing it to reach it's target and penetrate it's tough metal shell before exploding. The explosion was large enough for all of the surrounding robots to get caught in the blast. As the dust settled Shirou saw molten slag was all that remained of the robots. Luckily the spaceship was still intact as Mecha Sonic had soaked up most of the blast.
"Alright guys the coast is clear!" shouted Shirou.
Fiona, Bean and Bark emerged from the other room. Fiona was using her hand to fan away the burning smell while Bean was giggling like a lunatic because of the explosion. As they entered the ship the group put on space suits that were designed with nanotechnology to adapt to the various body types of the Mobians, Overlanders and Humans of the Dark Egg legion.
Fiona went to handle the controls of the ship and started the launch sequence.
"Alright boys, get ready cause we're starting to launch in 3-2-1. Hold on to your butts!" she said as the ship went off into the night sky.
"Wheeee!" Bean shouted childishly while Bark looked nervous.
As they flew off to an uncertain fate Fiona couldn't help but remember the Xorda Invasion on Mobius. She remembered when Tails had rushed to save her from getting shot. Well, now it was time for her to return the favor. Her thoughts however were interrupted when the Black Comet all of a sudden warped out of orbit to being just above the skyline as it released tendrils to the ground below.
"What the fuck?!" she exclaimed in bewilderment.
"What happened?" asked Shirou from his seat.
"Well, it looks like we're gonna be reaching our destination a lot sooner than expected." She stated flatly.
As they landed inside an opening Fiona noticed that the ship was picking up that while there was a breathable atmosphere inside The Black Comet there was a toxin in the air.
"Hey guys, even though the atmosphere may be breathable you should probably keep your suits on there's some sort of paralytic toxin." stated Fiona.
As they walked out they saw two other ships.
"Whose ship's are those?" asked Shirou.
Fiona went to get a closer look and saw a familiar decorative symbol depicting two tails.
"Tails was here." She said.
She also recognized the other ship as the Freedom Fighter Special modified to go into space which meant there were other Freedom Fighters here too.
"Let's go in deeper." said Shirou.
As they went in deeper they were attacked by more black warriors but these ones were different as they had three horns on their heads and wore body armor. As the creatures attacked one came at Fiona with a sword she side stepped the sword swing before she pulled out the katana and leaped with a downward slash cutting the black assassin from head to groin splitting it in half. Another one came at her she dodged it's attack and responded in-kind with a sideways swing putting her weight behind the blade like Shirou had taught her as she bisected the alien. Shirou fired arrows into the armored black hawks that appeared. As the band of mercenaries fought their way deeper they made it to a clearing where they found Sonic, Tails, Amy, Knuckles and Rouge (in her usual outfit) paralyzed by the mist about to be eaten by death leeches.
"Sonic! Tails!" Fiona shouted as she started to smash the black leeches under her boots.
"Hey, Fiona. We really need to stop meeting like this." Sonic quipped.
"What happened!" Fiona asked.
"Black Doom used Chaos Control to get The Black Comet past the upper atmosphere. Shadow went to fight Black Doom on his own." explained Tails.
"I'm sure he can handle it." said Sonic with a smirk.
"Shirou we have to get them out of here." said Fiona.
"Okay, let's hope Shadow can manage." said Shirou.
Shirou picked up Sonic and Amy, Fiona picked up Tails and Bark picked up Knuckles and Rouge. They then ran back to the spaceships.
"Sorry but we're going to have to go on our shuttle and leave the others." said Shirou.
"Eh it's okay. Tails and Rotor can build a new one anyway." stated Sonic.
As they all entered the stolen ship Fiona closed the entrance, went to the controls and started it then they flew off into the night.
"You saved us, why?" Amy couldn't help but ask as she had been nothing but selfish and vindictive before.
"*Sigh* I wasn't there when Eggman destroyed Knothole, I wasn't there when Naugus took over New Mobotropolis and I wasn't there when Sally got roboticized. But I'm here now and I want to make a difference." said Fiona.
Meanwhile with Shadow
"I gave you life and yet you continue to defy me? So be it! You shall pay for your ingratitude with relentless pain!" exclaimed Black Doom in his new monstrous form.
Then Shadow heard someone speak through his communication device.
"Shadow, can you hear me? I managed to get your friends off of the Black Comet. You can go all out on Black Doom!" he heard Shirou's voice, it was good to know he was still trying to help people.
"Go for it, Shadow!" he heard Tails shout over the channel.
Shadow smirked and prepared to fight.
"Chaos Spear!" shadow shouted as he unleashed Chaos Spears into Devil Doom's eye.
Devil Doom howled with rage and telekinetically threw massive chunks of debris at Shadow. Shadow dodged this and fired more Chaos Spears into Doom's Eye.
"Hmph! Is that all?" muttered Devil Doom as his eye traveled to the other side of his body.
As Super Shadow traveled around Devil Doom dodging thrown debris and lasers Devil Doom breathed fire which Shadow narrowly dodged before firing into Doom's Eye again.
"Why? Why can't you understand that these humans are the parasites of this world? Absolute Power is the only way to bring order to the planet … The humans must be eliminated! Shadow, open your eyes! Realize that sympathizing with these humans has all been a mistake!" shouted Black Doom in frustration.
"Shadow… can you hear me? The gas from The Black Comet has still made it into our shelter…" Shirou said forebodingly.
"Aaah! *coughs* I… I can't move… !" Amy could be heard over the channel.
"Sh…Shadow! Don't… worry about us… !" Sonic shouted.
"Before long, the gas from this comet will have spread over the entire planet… Shadow, cease these futile attempts to resist. You alone cannot change this planet's fate." said Black Doom.
"Wh-wh-what do we do? I can't… keep my… eyes…" muttered Tails as he slipped into unconcioussness.
"Sh…Shadow…! I be…lieve in you… You've… got to… finish this!" muttered Rouge.
"Shadow! You're… supposed to be the Ultimate Lifeform… right? You've got to… keep going…" said Sonic.
"The time has come! Now, that the gas has overrun this tainted world, my reign has begun!" exclaimed Black Doom before he laughed maniacally.
"Now… come, Shadow! Die Along with these foolish humans!" said Black Doom.
Super Shadow fired barrage after barrage of Chaos Spears into Doom's Eye causing him pain.
"Guh! How could you possibly be able to injure me?! I see… I seem to have underestimated the true power of the Emeralds. No matter! I will destroy you all the same!" said Black Doom in frustration.
Then Shadow removed his inhibitor rings.
"Chaos Blast!" he shouted as he unleashed his most powerful attack.
"Im-impossible! I am the supreme being that rules this universe! I am the immortal life form! I am the ultimate power! Gaaaah!" shouted Black Doom as he died.
Then Super Shadow flew below The Black Comet and grabbed onto it.
"Time to put the past behind me! Chaos Control!" shouted Shadow as he teleported with the black comet into space underneath the Space Colony ARK.
Then the Eclipse Cannon fired and destroyed The Black Comet.
Back on the surface
Everyone cheered.
"Alright!" shouted Sonic.
"Woohoo! Boom!" shouted Bean because of The Black Comet getting blown up.
"See Tails, I told you you'd be okay." Fiona said as she ruffled Tails' hair.
"I hope he's okay." said Rouge with concern for Shadow.
"I'm sure he's fine, Rouge. He is Shadow, after all!" said Amy.
I got the idea for Mecha Sonic using energy blasts from the game Lego Dimensions. But otherwise I'd imagine the portrayal from Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and Super Mario Brothers Z.
Ending Short: Unfortunate Reunion
Fiona was having the time of her life, she was running through the hallways of G.U.N. HQ grinning evilly as she looked at the red and green Chaos Emeralds in her hands. Finitevus had given them the location of the two Chaos Emeralds in G.U.N. HQ. While Team Dark was away Scourge and the rest of the Destructix had formed a diversion while she snuck in and stole the Emeralds.
"Like taking candy from a-" Fiona was interrupted when she heard a familiar voice which froze her in her tracks.
"Fiona?" Hope Kintobor looked at her in surprise. She recognized the girl, she had stayed in Knothole for a time until she left to spend time with her people. They had been really close. But she hadn't been there during her betrayal. Then Fiona felt a rush of an emotion she hadn't felt for some time, shame.
"What are you wearing? What are you doing with the Chaos Emeralds?" she asked in confusion.
"Fiona, how could you?" was her final question in disbelief before Fiona ran away.
Fiona didn't notice this at the time but her eyes had begun to fill with tears. She later spent the night drinking.
