Chapter 8- The Hulk and Fighting Friends
Yelizaveta felt herself come back to consciousness at the sound of a siren going off. Due to the super soldier serum all in her, she wasn't as injured as a lot of people would have been, but she had injuries that would heal in less than a day. But at this moment she felt every injury that the serum allowed. Her head hurt and her ribs felt like someone had swung a heavy 2x4 at them.
A heavy groan got her attention and she scrambled to her feet. She looked over to see James Banner looking slightly dazed, a trail of blood running sluggishly from his mouth. "James? James, can you hear me?" Yelizaveta asked, lightly slapping his cheeks. He blinked his eyes at her.
"What happened?" James asked as she helped him to sit up.
"We've been attacked. Come on let's find your dad," Yelizaveta said as she helped James to his feet.
"Put on the suit," Yelizaveta heard Steve say and she looked over to where he and Stark had been thrown.
"Yeah," Stark said as he and Steve got to their feet.
"You kids okay?" Steve asked.
"I think so. Where's Nat, Fury and Dr. Banner?" Yelizaveta asked, looking around.
"I don't know where Fury is, but Romanoff and Dr. Banner went through the glass," Steve said, pointing at the broken glass observation window. James and Yelizaveta went out the window in time to see Natasha come to.
"Nat, are you okay?" Yelizaveta asked before seeing the lead strut across her friend's leg.
"James, come on. We gotta get this off her leg," Yelizaveta said as she grabbed the strut and tried to lift it.
"Wait. What about Dad?" James asked, indicating Dr. Banner's prone form. The man looked unconscious.
"We're okay," Nat said with a grunt as Banner started to groan.
"Stay still, Nat. Me and James'll have you out in no time," Yelizaveta said, sweat popping out on her forehead as she was barely able to lift the strut.
"We're okay, right?" Natasha asked, looking at Banner who was groaning and writhing as if he was in pain.
"Dad? Dad? You got to fight it. This is just what Loki wants. We're going to be okay. Listen to me," James said to his father, grabbing his father's shoulder.
"Are you hurt?" A man asked as he and another man came running into the area. Yelizaveta waved them aside.
"We're going to be okay. All right? I swear on my life, me and the kids will get you out of this. You will walk away and never ever-" Natasha started to say.
"Your life?" Banner asked in a loud monstrous voice as he turned to look at her, Yelizaveta, and James.
James's face then turned pale. "Dad, fight it!" James ordered, his voice breaking slightly as his father groaned and roared loudly. Banner fell to the floor as his clothes started to rip and he looked up at James and then Natasha with anguish in his eyes.
"Bruce," Natasha whispered. The lights flickered out and inhuman roars filled the area as Natasha pulled her leg out from under the strut. Natasha, Yelizaveta, and James froze as the Hulk then turned to face them with barely controlled anger and rage in his eyes. They barely made it up the ladders when the Hulk pulled out the ladders behind them, nearly causing Yelizaveta to lose her footing.
A deathly quiet filled the area as Nat, James, and Yelizaveta made their way over a catwalk. Thumping footfalls made them all hold their breaths as they hid in the shadows. "James, how long will your father stay the Hulk?" Yelizaveta asked, gripping his muscular arm.
"It's Jimmy and who knows? When Dad becomes the other guy you can never tell how long the anger will be. He was once angry for about 48 hours one time," James said.
"Okay. Then I am sorry. Nat, we need our guns and my sword," Yelizaveta said, pulling out her glock and sliding the sword on her back out of it's sheath.
"Wait. You'll kill Dad!: Jimmy protested.
"He might kill us first, Jimmy," Natasha said as they made their way in the dark. Suddenly the Hulk roared, nearly causing Yelizaveta and Nat to drop their weapons.
Natasha took aim and fired at the pipe over the Hulk's head and he roared in pain as the steam hit him. Natasha, Jimmy, and Yelizaveta took off running, even though by the way she was limping, Natasha was hurt. Yelizaveta and Jimmy looked back to see the Hulk on mad pursuit on their tails and crashing into equipment that was barring him. "Dad, stop!" Jimmy flung over his shoulder as the Hulk swung his arms and flung Natasha into a computer. The Hulk raised his arm in Yelizaveta and Jimmy's direction to take a swing when Thor came through the wall and launched himself at the Hulk.
The momentum threw them back into the launching bay. Thor looked at the Hulk, shock on his face as what Banner had become had hit him like it had Yelizaveta now that she could see it. The Hulk threw punches at Thor, who was trying to block the best he could. "We are not your enemies, Banner. That boy is your son," Thor said with a grunt as he held onto the Hulk's hand, stopping it from hitting him in the head.
"Dad, try to think!" Jimmy yelled as Thor got to his feet and the Hulk hit Thor in the face, knocking him across the room and into a crate. Thor landed on the other side and Yelizaveta watched as he held out his hand and his hammer smacked into it with barely a sound. The Hulk came through the crates and getting to his feet, Thor smashed Hulk in the face with his hammer and into one of the fighter planes. Hulk stood and shook his head slightly as if he was dazed.
The Hulk ripped off a wing and threw it at Thor, who ducked. Thor threw his hammer and the Hulk caught it, the weight throwing him to the ground as he couldn't lift it. Thor jumped on the Hulk's back and the Hulk tossed him aside only for Thor to jump on his back again, wrapping his hammer and arms around the Hulk's neck. Hulk jumped up through the ceiling, taking Thor out of sight.
Yelizaveta, Natasha, and James sat in the dark. Natasha was holding her ribs when the helicarrier started to sputter and die. "It's Barton. He took out our systems. He's headed for the detention level. Does anybody copy?" Fury asked.
"This is Agent Markova. I am with Agent Romanoff and James Banner. We copy," Yelizaveta said as the three of them stood to their feet and made their way to the detention level.
"Wait! What about Dad and Thor?" James asked.
"We'll find out about that in a minute. We have to stop Clint before he releases Loki," Yelizaveta said over her shoulder as they went onto one of the catwalks. Clint was walking briskly along and Yelizaveta walked behind him. It felt like it did the day he, Laura, and the kids took her to her first carnival and introduced her to funnel cake. Clint then turned, aiming an arrow at her forehead.
"Clint, please. It's Yelizaveta. You know her," Natasha begged.
"Clint, you and Laura took care of me. Please," Yelizaveta whispered as Clint took a swing at her. Yelizaveta gripped his muscular arm and started fighting him, taking care to pull her punches, lest she hurt her friend.
Pulling out her sword as she pulled Clint's bow from his hands, she twirled the blade to where the hilt was aimed at Clint. Clint advanced and Yelizaveta grabbed his arm, pulling up. She heard the bone crack painfully. Clint wrapped his arms around her and Yelizaveta sank her teeth into his wrist. Clint yelled in pain as she spun around and slammed his head into a ledge.
Clint groaned and looked up at Yelizaveta and Natasha. "Natasha? Vetty?" Clint asked Yelizaveta looked at him, breathing hard and knocked him out with the hilt of her sword.
"Agent Coulson is down," Fury's voice came over Yelizaveta's earwig.
"A medical team is on its way to your location," another voice said.
"They're here. They called it," Fury said with a finality that brought tears to Yelizaveta's eyes.
