Chapter 11- Closing the Portal

Yelizaveta watched in awe as the Hulk smashed the alien right in the face and he got driven back as it fell to the ground. Yelizaveta and the others backed away slightly to avoid being hit as it fell in their direction. "Hold on," Stark said as he flew up and raising his hand, fired something at the alien. It exploded in a ball of flame as everyone hunkered down to the ground, Captain America and Clint shielding Yelizaveta and Natasha with their bodies.

The Hulk roared as the alien army screamed from the buildings and everyone gathered behind him. Yelizaveta raised her sword and gun as her eyes scanned the carnage. More eel-like aliens came out of the portal to everyone's dismay. "Uh, guys," Yelizaveta said nervously as she gnawed at her lips.

Call it, Captain," Stark said to Captain Rogers.

"All right, listen up. Until we can close that portal, our priority is containment. Barton, I want you on that roof. Eyes on everything. Call out patterns and strays. Stark, you got the perimeter. Anything that gets more than three blocks out, you turn it back or you turn it to ash," Captain Rogers said, gesturing with his hands.

"Can you give me a lift?" Clint asked Stark.

"Right. Better clench up, Legolas," Stark said, grabbing Clint by the scruff of his neck and they took off.

"Thor, you got to try and bottleneck that portal. Slow them down. You've got the lightning. Light them up," Captain Rogers said to the Asgardian. Thor spun his hammer and took off. "You, me, Liz, and Jimmy, we stay here on the ground. We keep the fighting here. And Hulk, smash," Captain Rogers said to Natasha and Hulk. The Hulk gave a huge grin before jumping up the side of a building. He threw aliens like rag dolls, amidst the firing from their guns.

Thor jumped to the Chrysler building and pointing his hammer at the sky, brought down thunder and lightning. He aimed it at the portal, frying the aliens coming out of it. Yelizaveta flipped her sword in her hand as another alien, this one with a sword of his own, advanced. She jumped into the battle, aiming for the stomach as Captain Rogers, Natasha, and Jimmy fought aliens of their own. Out of the corner of her eye, Yelizaveta watched in horror as Natasha was thrown against a car. With a grunt she shoved an electrical needle into it's neck. Natasha pulled its rifle out of its hands and opened fire on it and the alien behind her.

Yelizaveta ducked and hit the alien she was fighting in the face with the flat of her blade and swiped the sharp blade across its knees. It screamed in pain as it grabbed the stumps that were once its shins. Yelizaveta turned in time to see Natasha point her gun at Captain Rogers. "Captain, none of this is going to mean a darn thing if we don't close that portal," Jimmy said, breathing hard as he wiped his sweaty forehead with his muscular arm as they all looked up at the portal.

"Our biggest guns couldn't touch it," Captain Rogers said, breathing just as hard as all of them.

"Well, maybe it's not about guns," Yelizaveta said as she moved her eyes from the ground to Stark Tower.

"If you want to get up there, you're going to need a ride," Captain Rogers said, not taking his eyes off the portal.

"I got a ride. I could use a boost though," Yelizaveta said, looking at Captain Rogers' shield as she moved away to do a running leap.

"Are you sure about this?" Captain Rogers asked, looking a little nervous.

"Yeah. It's gonna be fun," Yelizaveta said as she took off running, jumped on the car and onto Captain Rogers' shield. He tossed her right up and she grabbed the underside of an alien craft, holding on for dear life then moved her hands like she was on a set of monkey bars to where the pilot's gunner was watching his friend's back. She thrust her sword into its leg and tossed him over, taking control of the steering. She jumped on the other alien's back. "Okay! Turn! Turn! Less! Less!" Yelizaveta said, gripping the alien's hands and forcing him to turn. She heard explosions and saw Stark fly by out of the corner of her eye. He jumped down on the ground and joined Captain Rogers, Natasha, and Jimmy in the fight.

Yelizaveta then felt a jolt behind her and she looked back. "Oh, you," Yelizaveta said with a groan as her eyes locked on Loki. "Hawkeye!" Yelizaveta said, hoping Clint wasn't busy.

"Vetty, what are you doing?" Clint's voice came worried over her earwig.

"Uh, a little help," Yelizaveta said as she forced the driver to dodge.

"I got him, kid," Clint said, a smirk and gloat in his tone. Yelizaveta saw a small object whiz past and heard a loud explosion behind her. As the ship she was on passed the tower, Yelizaveta jumped off and hit the gravel.

Yelizaveta got to her feet and went to the machine that had opened the portal. "The scepter," a voice said behind her. Yelizaveta turned to see Erik Selvig on the ground. Judging from his eyes, he was in control of himself again, Loki's control gone. He had to have hit himself in the head.

"Doctor," Yelizaveta said.

"Loki's scepter. The energy. The Tesseract can't fight, but you can't protect against yourself," Selvig said as Yelizaveta squatted down to put herself at eye level with him.

"It's not your fault. You didn't know what you were doing," Yelizaveta said, touching his large hand gently.

"Well, actually, I think I did. I built in a safety to cut their power source," Selvig said. Realization then dawned on Yelizaveta.

"Loki's scepter," Yelizaveta said in a hushed voice.

"It may be able to close the portal. And I'm looking right at it," Selvig said, looking down. Yelizaveta came to where he was and saw Loki's scepter directly down about 400 feet below them.

"I'll get it. You open up your laptop," Yelizaveta said as she jumped down and grabbed the scepter, sheathing her sword in her back scabbard.

It was cumbersome getting back to the roof, but she made it as Selvig opened the laptop, "Right at the crown!" Selvig ordered, pointing to the spot where there was a small opening.

"I can close it," Yelizaveta said as she pierced the blue shield, feeling the electric energy going through the weapon and into her hands and up her arms. "Can anybody copy?" Yelizaveta asked through her earwig. "I can shut the portal down."

"Do it!" Captain Rogers ordered.

"No, wait," Stark said.

"Stark, these things are still coming," Captain Rogers said.

"I got a nuke coming in. And it's gonna blow in less than a minute. And I know just where to put it," Stark said with a note of concentration in his voice.

"Stark, you know that's a one-way trip," Captain Rogers said somberly.

Yelizaveta then saw Stark as he flew to the portal, the nuke in his hands. She held her breath as he flew into the portal and it started to shrink. On the ground and in the air, the Chitauri shut down. "Come on, Stark," Yelizaveta muttered as the portal got smaller.

"Close it, Liz," Captain Rogers said. Yelizaveta pushed the scepter into the crown and the beam connecting the portal to Stark Tower disappeared. .A smile crossed Yelizaveta's face as Stark fell just as the portal closed.

A/N: I know in the movie, Natasha was the one who closes the portal I wanted Yelizaveta to have the honors for this one. I apologize for those who wanted to see Natasha close it, but never fear, she does play into The Winter Soldier alongside Yelizaveta and Steve.
