Chapter 13: Meeting with an old (and new) world…

Chapter 13, the chapter where Squad 13 will finally interact with the 'old' humanity before APE's version. This will change a lot the way they see and interact with APE ideologies as, little by little, they will be shown the harsh reality between them and the RF. Sure, things in the RF aren't also what they appear, but hey, I think I speak for everyone else here when I say that the RF would be the best choice by a wide margin…

Oh right, and Raven and Naomi are going on their first official date! Let's see how that plays out! On with the show, Ravens!

3 days after operation 'Spirit Keeper'…

Squad 13 was bored. After their victory, they had returned to the Cerasus where they were debriefed, congratulated for a job well done and given leave for their future tour before going to the showers and taking a very welcoming deep sleep. However, their tour wouldn't be ready until days later because of cleaning operations and funeral services for the fallen defenders. Considering APE's policy with various topics of the 'Old world', their mentors didn't want to risk their students being the target for a memory wipe. To their surprise and good fortune, the doctor himself gave them a guideline for a guided tour that was on the grey area of such rules. So, on the second day, after returning from the funeral service, they had finally announced the itinerary for their visit: unfortunately, they won't be able to visit the city, only see it from the windows of their assigned transport as they drove around, hiding the reason behind politic coverage. Even though that sent many of them into grumbles, the kids bought the lie and recovered their enthusiasm when their destinations were announced: they would visit the 'crown of the city', the local SMC academy which was the equivalent of the Garden at APE, except that it was, in Raven's words, "the way it is supposed to work". After that, they would then spend the night at senator's Armstrong private mansion, then use the next morning to explore it and enjoy some free time doing whatever they wanted inside the place and then they would return to the 'Cerasus', which will then take course to the beach, followed by the 'Oletros'. They had spent most of the day preparing their clothes and some equipment that Raven recommended to bring; after that, it was all a matter of waiting for tomorrow since the APE staff wanted to be ready to depart asap once the visit was done and as such, they used the rest of the day to prepare in advance.

That was when boredom set in after the whole enthusiasm for the visit worn out, even on the normally hyperactive Zorome. And being tweens, they did what people at their age do, observe around, and complain a lot…

Zorome: - I'm bored! –

Zero Two: - You and me pal… -

Miku: - Oh, quit whining on it! We're also bored but you don't see us complaining here! –

Most of the squad was in the living room, having exhausted themselves trying to find ways to pass the time, even as far as trying some 'board games' that Raven had brought with him, only for everyone to give it up after trying to understand the rules of the first game and failing. Ikuno was reading a book, Mitsuru doing the same, Futoshi and Pari were both discussing about some recipes that they wanted to taste during the visit, Kokoro was at the greenhouse, Titus was checking and re-checking the status of the Franxx's (at this point, everyone treated him as the unofficial mechanic of the squad), Ichigo alongside Goro were checking the debriefing reports. Zero Two was having some fun flirting with Hiro again, and lastly, Zorome and Miku were both simply too bored to even complain. Even if it seemed everyone was doing something productive, the truth was, they were all bored of the routine today…

Titus: - Man… I'm simply not in the mood today… -

He decided to save his work and store his device for the day. Everybody else simply followed his example and, with exception of Zero Two, stopped doing whatever they were doing…

Mitsuru: - *Sighs* I guess spending a lot of our energy both in the intensity of the battle and out enthusiasm finally paid its toll. –

Goro: - I'm pretty sure that if sensei or Raven were here, they would have something to help us pass the time… -

Pari: - Speaking of Raven, where is he? Last time we saw him was at breakfast… -

Titus: - He is back at his dorm at the attic, said that he needed some time alone because of an important call from the RF and at utmost privacy. –

Zorome: - Agh! Not fair! How is he that important to them and not us? –

Miku: - He has more time with them than with us, idiot. And he is also our best connection with them, so don't even think about making him angry because I'm pretty sure he can make you stay here for the visit… -

Zorome simply grumbled before he said: - I'm simply complaining that it isn't fair, not being against him! Also, shouldn't Naomi be sharing his benefits too? –

Ikuno: - Speaking of Naomi, have you seen her girls? She too hasn't come down with us after breakfast… -

This got the attention of everyone now; two of their friends away from everyone alone doing something important in private?

Zero Two: - Oooh, it seems we have a mystery in our hands now, friends. Who wants to unveil it? –

Hiro: - Shouldn't we respect their privacy? I'm pretty sure there is a reason they want to be alone right now… -

That was when Kokoro returned to the lobby and said: - Ummm… girls, do you happen to know what a 'date' is? –

Pari: - Isn't it supposed to refer to the day, month, and year? Why? –

Kokoro: - Well, I was gardening when I heard Naomi walking nearby saying something about how she needed to prepare for it and other stuff that seemed important to her while she looked at a tablet. She was so distracted she didn't even notice me asking… -

Mitsuru: - Curious… I went upstairs earlier and managed to overheard Raven saying something about the same thing… and he too was talking about it like something of importance… -

Ikuno: - Why would both of them be that worried about a day? –

Zero Two giggled before she said: - You clearly don't know the other meaning of the word then… you all want to find out the reason? –

The curiosity of the group was now at the maximum and in the end, Hiro's argument to respect their privacy fell apart as the squad split into boys and girls for the interrogation.

As the boys arrived first at Raven's room, they could hear him talk to someone through his communicator…

Raven: - I'm telling you… it's just a simple stroll through the park… there's no need for that! Yes, of course I have my wallet with me… I'm not like my mentor, senator!... *Sighs* I don't need this to be perfect! It's already good as it is! Senator, please that would be…! Hello?! –

He then made grumbling noises as Goro knocked on his door…

Raven: - On it, on it! –

He opened and was soon ambushed by the guys as they all entered, grabbing him in the process and closing the door behind them…

Raven: - Oi! Oi! What's the matter guys?! –

They settled him on the bed and Zorome was the first to ask: - So, Raven. Mind telling us what is a 'date' in the RF? –

Raven: - Huh?! Oh, don't tell me… okay who told you about it? –

Hiro: - We realized it ourselves after Kokoro and Mitsuru basically said that you two were too worried about this 'date' that you were having. And Zero Two theorized that this 'date' is something between you two… -

Raven sighed before answering: - Well, she is right. Now before I tell you what exactly this is about… can you promise me to NOT talk about this with Nana and Hachi? This IS something I wanted to keep in private for a good reason but now you're forcing me to give you an answer for it… -

Zorome: - Huh? Why should we…? Hmmm! –

He was shut up by Titus and Mitsuru as the former said: - Sure, we can do that man. After everything you had done or happened thanks to you, it's the right thing to do. –

Raven: - Thanks Titus. I still must reiterate that if I hear anyone here spilled the beans, no matter who it is, I'm kicking all your asses, capiche? –

His tone indicated he was not kidding, and everyone silently agreed to honor his request. And as he was about to begin explaining about the topic, his partner, Naomi, was having at least an easier time with the girls, who intercepted her as she was busy looking through a catalog of…

Zero Two: - Wow, so you're really trying to impress Raven apparently, huh? –

The catalog was that of dresses recommended from the RF fashion bureau. Apparently, Sally had lent Naomi her holo-tablet for the purpose of selecting a dress for her date with Raven. She had been undecided on which one to use which was when the girls cornered her and Zero Two looked at the holo-tablet…

Naomi: - Well… yes… *blushing* -

Miku: - But why? Boys are kind of gross… *trembles when Naomi glares at her* not Raven of course! He is an actual good guy! –

Pari: - What exactly is a 'date' anyways? –

Naomi: - How… how much do you know about the topic? And without Zero Two's knowledge… -

Ichigo: - Trust us, we tried asking her, but she simply gave us vague answers so we're in the blank… is it something bad to talk about? –

Naomi: - No, no… it's just… *blushes and has a dreamy look* it's hard to explain for it makes my stomach go crazy, making me hungry… but for some reason also satisfied… my feelings are all mixed up whenever I even think of Raven… for some reason everything becomes more… more… *as images of Raven passes through her, she shakes her head and covers it with her head…* Kyaaaah… it's hard to explain! –

The girls simply stared at her in confusion with exception of Zero Two who looked amused and Ikuno whom, for the first time in her life, got to experience a new emotion: jealously…

Ikuno: "Why… why am I feeling… mad that she is happy with him? I should be happy for her if she is happy! Why?" – Sooo… can you explain us or not? –

Zero Two: - You know Naomi, if you want to, I can take over the explanation for you. –

Ichigo: - Oh, NOW you decide to tell us… -

Naomi: - Thanks Zero Two… but I think it's better if I do it… who knows how much you will 'twist' the truth as Raven calls it… -

Zero Two: - Oh… alright. – "That damn LYNX clearly knows about my pranks… it will be fun trying to outclass each other…"

Naomi/Raven: - So… how do I start this? Let's say that you have a partner you pay more attention to than to anyone else… -

Goro: - So you mean like Hiro to Zero Two? –

Ichigo: - So you mean like Zero Two to Hiro? –

Hiro: - Oi! –

Zero Two: - *Sarcastically* Ha ha… -

Raven: - Kind of… but let's say that everyone has a unique way of displaying it… for example, Futoshi here kind of idolizes Kokoro and Zorome's way is to always be up-front with Miku even if they argue… although I bet that's their way showing their affection with each other. -

Zorome: - I do not! –

Futoshi: - Well why shouldn't I? Kokoro is great! –

Raven: "Goddammit Futoshi… it's going to be HARD to make you notice Pari…" – Point is… I will always be trying my best to look after your wellbeing guys, but for a special reason, I look forward to Naomi's more than anyone else… -

Miku: - And why is that? –

Naomi: - Raven in my eyes is simply different to everybody else. I'm not saying he is the best out of everyone, Hiro is levelheaded, caring and a great Parasite, especially considering that he is literally piloting with the best pistil of APE (Zero Two: - That's true. -). Goro is responsible, and a leader just like Ichigo. Zorome is quite hot-headed but also enthusiastic in many ways. Futoshi is a kind boy with a gentle heart; Mitsuru may look cold, but he is simply trying to be strong in his own way and Titus is a genius. Raven may not have all these qualities… but for me that's what makes him so… unique. –

The girls, for some reason, felt envious of Naomi… it seemed she had something that they didn't… and yet at the same time they didn't know what it was. It was like something deep on them had been triggered and they didn't know what… well everyone but Zero Two, but even she couldn't brag about it considering her SO had temporary amnesia… she just hoped Hiro would recover soon enough with Orion's guidance.

Naomi: - I probably weirded you out, didn't I? Anyways, this date is some sort of social conduct that involves a couple trying to get closer to each other… -

Miku: - It does seem weird, why get much closer to Raven if you both already know each other well enough? -

Kokoro: - I think it is kind of cute… Naomi looks livelier whenever she and Raven are close to each other… maybe this 'date' will make them closer and make their piloting act better? –

Goro: - Does it work for real? –

Raven: - I would say that not always but there has been proof that many couples of LINX's and Parasites had their performance increased thanks to it. –

Titus: - Huh… my interest for the RF grows every time you talk about their customs… that's the correct word, right? –

Raven: - Yep, also remember that most of these customs belong to that of the 'Old World'. We simply kept them alive. –

Zorome: - Why though? If Papa got rid of them, it must be for a good reason, right? Why would you keep them? –

Just like that, Raven had been set on a tight spot inadvertently: one wrong word and his friends could suffer Hiro's fate. He had to thread this carefully…

Raven: - Well… I don't know Zorome. APE made his doctrine, the RF and SMC made theirs. Not everyone has to follow just one… -

Zorome: - But why? Wouldn't it be easier if everyone did so? –

Raven: "Dammit… he is smarter than he looks…"

Mitsuru: - I'm sure it has to do with the organizations. Remember Zorome that the RF and the SMC were literally a secret organization that we didn't even knew existed. Have you ever wondered why they didn't try to contact us? –

Raven: "Maybe I should tell them a little of the truth… at least to make sure they don't push the matter for now…" – Actually Mitsuru… we did an attempt of contact with APE once. –

Goro: - Really? What happened? –

Raven: - The meeting went bad… really bad. I can't tell you details about it for now though, you will have to wait for another time. –

Zorome groaned but that was stopped as everyone's devices received a notification. At once, they all checked what it said: "Children, prepare your suitcases with 2 days and 2 nights worth of clothing and personal hygiene items. Tomorrow, your long-awaited tour on the city will begin at 0650 hours. Slackers will be left on the Cerasus. – Orion."

Zorome: - Alright! Tomorrow is the big day! –

Raven: *sighs* - Well, let's get everything ready right now to avoid unpleasant surprises during the visit. –

Futoshi: - Are you sure? We have a lot of time… -

Raven: - Which is why it is better to do it now! If there's something I personally learned is to be better safe than sorry. –

Hiro: - Hmmmm… so, what happened to make you learn that lesson? –

Raven's face got red: - I would rather not talk about it. –

Hiro: - Now you got me curious about it… -

Raven: - Let's just get the suitcases ready, dammit! Also, I'm worrying a little for the girls… -

Titus: - Probably more for a certain one, am I right guys? –

It was the first time everybody looked smug at Raven, and he couldn't help but groan before smiling…

Raven: - You all learn fast… I got to give you that… -

As they all went towards their dorms, the girls were already busy packing on theirs as they had also read the message…

Zero Two: - So, have you decided already, because at this rate, you may need to go to the city without the dress… -

Naomi: - Oh, don't worry about that, Sally said that the chosen dress will be at the Senator's home, all ready for my date… -

Kokoro: - You still don't have it though… -

Naomi: - Weeeell… it's very hard to decide which one… -

Zero Two: *le idea* - I know! How about you let us decide? –

The rest: - Huh? –

Zero Two: - Let us decide on this one! I'm pretty sure that together we can choose you the dress that would fit you correctly for the dress! –

Ichigo: - That's a good idea actually, we could combine what we think would be best for you and use it to find the perfect dress… -

Without having time to reply, Zero Two grabbed the tablet out of Naomi's hands and soon the girls huddled together, murmuring, and looking at the catalogue for a long time until…

Girls: - Aha! –

Zero Two then went towards Naomi and told her: - This is the one! What do you think? –

Naomi looked at the selection and she gasped as her eyes seemed to shine: this was the one! After looking at it with more detail, she soon clicked on the 'confirm' button and smiled at everyone: - It's perfect… thank you girls… -

Just then, they heard some commotion from the boys' side, and they heard Raven yell: - I told you that you were too short, dumbass! –

Zorome: - Screw you, Raven! –

Miku sighed before saying: - Now I have to go and calm down that idiot… -

The girls simply shrugged as this was something only Miku seemed to do…

The next morning…

Zorome was barely able to contain his excitement, and nobody could blame him about it. It was early in the morning, about 6:30 am, but even at the early hours everyone was in high spirits and energy. It was the beginning of their long-awaited tour inside the city of the ark and boy, even Zero Two couldn't help herself but wonder what was behind the walls. Even if the dome of the ark was made of crystal, it was a highly polarized one that could switch between being one-way and two-way and during the whole operation it has been set on the one-way, meaning that they couldn't see the city from the outside. So, either the city was a replica of the ones on APE, or it had an original design in it. She just hoped her built-up dreams about it weren't crushed like always…

Soon enough, Orion and Sally arrived alongside Hachi and Nana and soon said: - Alright, do you have everything you need? No last-minute screw ups on your packages? –

Ichigo: - Everyone has everything they need sensei! –

Orion: - Excellent, follow us then please… -

Everyone did so, taking their luggage with them as they walked from the board house all the way towards the hangars where a Stork and the doctor was waiting for them. As they reached the transport, the doctor talked to Orion: - Remember, they are only supposed to be there 2 days and 2 nights. –

Orion: - I know, doctor. I know, you can relax on that. –

Dr. Franxx: - I'm just doing what protocol says. Children, make sure to be on your best behavior with our hosts, understood? Approval for this tour was hard to come by and APE won't be happy if you're sent back to the Cerasus ahead of schedule because of bad conduct… -

Ichigo: - I will do my best to keep everyone in line doctor. We'll do our best to behave… -

Dr. Franxx: - I know you will code 015. I was emphasizing it on code 02. –

Zero Two: - Pffft… bothersome as always you old geezer. –

Orion: - Come on doctor, let her live a little. Whatever happens in the city, stays in the city but the experience will stay forever on her. Let these kids live like the humanity we are fighting for… -

Zero Two: - We? –

Orion: - Well APE and us, obviously! –

Zero Two: "I doubt those glorified monkeys at the top would, but better keep the act going. After all, he is helping me and my darling and deserves my trust…"

Sally: - Anyways, we better get going, they're closing the routes for the parade, and we don't want to be stuck on traffic… -

Everyone: - A parade? –

Orion: - For later kids, let's get going! See you in 60 hours doctor! Take care all of you! –

The helicopter started up as one by one the children entered, with Raven being the last one and closing the door. Soon enough, the helicopter lifted off and flew out of the hangar, the doctor, Nana and Hachi watching it leave until the doors of the hangar closed…

Dr. Franxx: - Did you manage to do the task as I instructed you to do so? –

Nana: - Yes doctor… but why the need of doing that? –

Dr. Franxx: - I'm simply doing what I always do: following my gut… -

He pulled out his tablet as it showed that he had managed to sneak a camera drone on Naomi's suitcase…

Some minutes passed before the Stork landed inside one of the Ark's hangars and shut down its engines. Once it did, everyone disembarked and were received by security…

Security: - Captain Orion? –

Orion: - Right here… -

Security: - Good, we were just informed that your transport has arrived at bay 3. Please have the required forms on hand once you are at the customs. –

Orion: - Understood, thank you. Come on kids! –

They all followed him as he walked through long white corridors similar to their plantation, the difference being these ones had multiple lanes for different transits. Even if it was early in the morning, squad 13 could see the corridors starting to get busy as more and more people walked from the inner sectors towards the external ones in preparation for another day of hard work. The kids were surprised by the numbers…

Kokoro: - There's more adults here than those we have seen in our hangars… -

Raven: - If you think this is a lot, then just wait until you see the city! This is just the hangar and maintenance personnel. –

Needless to say, the children grew in excitement as they neared the customs checkpoint near the entrance/exit to the hangars, where they could see a highway bigger than the hallway and a large white hovering limousine waiting on the pick-up/drop off section. ('Sci fi hover limousine' by Livius Rejman). The checkpoint structure was that of 10 booths on both sides of a holo-barrier similar to those in APE.

Customs personnel: - Captain Orion, over here at booth 5 please! –

They all went towards the booth where the guard was and soon Orion transferred the paperwork from his holo-wrist towards the guard's terminal.

Guard: *Reading through the data* - Hmm… Uhumm… Yep, all is in order… you're all good to go..., and children, welcome to Avalon. -

He then opened the barrier, and everyone went through it and towards the limo, where they were received by a brown-haired, blue-eyed man dressed in white driver clothing.

Orion: - Manfred! Glad to see you again! How are Ellie and little Cherry? –

Manfred: - We are doing well master Orion. Thank you for asking. –

Orion: - Even after repeating it for a thousand times, you still don't drop the 'master' bit man… -

Manfred: - You said yourself that I could refer to you in whichever way I wanted sir. –

Orion: *Groans…* - Anyways, Manfred I would like you to meet our group, this are the auxiliaries me and Sally took under our wing. Children, this is Manfred, our driver for today. –

Everyone greeted him with a bow which Manfred reciprocated…

Manfred: - A pleasure children. I'm afraid that any questions you have will need to wait, we must get moving now… -

Raven: - Of course, come on guys! Let's put our luggage on the back! –

Everyone did so, and once that was settled, they all entered the vehicle…

Titus and Zorome: - Woah! It looks cool! –

Ikuno: - The seats are quite comfy. –

Everyone was amazed at the luxurious interior and soon got comfortable; Sally was the last one to enter and closed the backdoor while Orion and Manfred took the co-pilot seat and the driver seat respectively. Soon enough, the vehicle was on the move and going through a tunnel towards the city.

Orion: *Using the vehicle intercom* - Okay kids, listen up now because I will give you a short version of our route. Today we will be doing a whole lap around the city so that you can appreciate it before driving towards the center where we will visit the SMC academy. Then we will stay there until the afternoon, where we will be going towards the senator's home. He has generously volunteered to host us as a way of thanking you for saving the ark. –

Ichigo: - Tell him that we are honored if you encounter him before us sensei. We were just doing our duty, as you would say. –

Orion: - Will do… oh, you better prepare your eyes. We're about to exit the tunnel… -

Squad 13 held their breath as the exit came closer and closer and soon enough, the natural light forced everyone to close their eyes before they adjusted to the new intensity… and once they had a clear view, everyone gasped…

Everyone: - Wooooooooah… -

(Play 'Paradise city' from Guns'n'Roses.)

They all saw through the windows the city they had been fighting to protect for the first time: it was big, with lots of white medium buildings and homes on the sectors nearest to the wall, lots of roads, highways, bridges and walkways connecting the whole place together from many different altitudes that could be easily reached by many skyscrapers located on the central sectors alongside many, MANY green areas located all around the city. And at the center of all, a very, VERY tall building located on the center of a giant lake that reached the top of the dome dwarfed every single building around it. (A mix of using 'Utopian city' by Damian Krzywonos on Artstation and the famous futuristic city of the 'Society if…' meme with the central structure being based on the 'International Space Elevator' from Ace Combat 7)

The kids were pleasantly overwhelmed with wonder, including Zero Two as the limo took one of the highways leading to a higher altitude from which they could see the city waking up: adults and children started to leave their homes and towards their schools or work, more vehicles started to move around, they even saw some of them fly towards different buildings!

Zorome, Miku, Titus, Futoshi, and Pari: - THIS IS AWESOME! –

Sally: - Glad you're enjoying it! You deserve it after your efforts… -

Zero Two: - Yeah, we do… - "Sensei, you have done it: you actually made me grateful for fighting for something that I had no knowledge off…"

She had experienced lots of things when fighting for APE's plantations: frustration, boredom, anger, apathy, and all sorts of disgusting feelings for them… but now, now she experienced pride for the first time for when she saw all the green, all the white and all the life in Avalon? She was now glad that her path had crossed with theirs… for now she could witness a different humanity to what she knew and finally feel that her actions were making something good for real and not just for herself. As she looked around, she soon saw something peculiar: under a tree in one of the parks, two adults and a tiny version of a child were sleeping. She found this cute and was about to bring it up to Hiro when she saw him staring intently at the tower structure in the center, showing signs he was 'in the zone' again…

When Hiro had looked for the first time at the grand tower in the center, he received another vision from his memories again: this time he was watching at a similar tower but all black and on a snowy wasteland that he seemed familiar with…

Hiro: "This area… it looks similar to that of the forest outside the boardhouse… but the structure isn't there… which means it is somewhere I had been before but… wait… I was in very few places as a Parasite… meaning that this must be somewhere in the Garden!"

And as to confirm his theory, his younger version of himself soon appeared alongside the mysterious pink haired girl. They stayed there looking at the tower before going away towards the white void of his mind which is when he snapped out of it. He soon looked at Zero Two whom looked at him in understanding…

Zero Two: - So, when do you want to talk about it? –

Hiro: - Maybe later once we are at the senator's mansion… I don't want to ruin the tour simply because of my 'condition'. –

Zero Two smiled and replied: - You're so considerate darling. Very well then, just make sure to tell Ichigo and Goro about it… -

One day after the battle, Hiro told everything about his 'visions' to Orion on the library, one of the few locations where Orion and Sally had installed the sim-bots so that the children could ask about anything that was forbidden. Needless to say, he was surprised to see Zero Two, Ichigo and Goro in the same room after telling everything…

Hiro: - Wh-what? How long have you been in here?! –

Orion: - Since you entered the room… Hiro, your friends are not blind nor dumb anymore. As they observed and noticed your new behavior after our arrival, they did the sensible thing of asking the experts, a.k.a., me and Sally. We simply told them about the syndrome you're having right now without holding back… -

Ichigo: - Hiro, you are part of this squad and of us, and as the leader it is my responsibility that everyone is doing their best and well. Me and Goro are NOT going to let a 'bad week' or another episode like the one on the 'kissing' repeat itself, understand? –

Hiro: - But… -

Goro: - Enough about telling us that you don't want us to be worried! You and I did this sort of thing on the kissing operation and almost paid the price for it! Like Ichigo said, not this time! –

Hiro simply sighed before talking to Zero Two in an upset tone: - Zero Two, you promised you wouldn't tell them! –

She then simulated the sound effect at which Orion started laughing followed by Goro while Zero Two grinned at Ichigo who reciprocated it all while Hiro blushed in embarrassment…

Hiro: "Well, at least is nice to know both girls are getting along much better than before…" – Sooo… back with my problem… what should I do? –

Orion soon stopped laughing and soon spoke in a serious tone: - For now, it is important that you don't speak about this to neither Hachi, Nana nor the doctor. After that, Hiro hadn't received another flashback until now. It is where the senator alongside the selected leaders of the city and SMC representatives spent time to analyze and decide the best courses of action for the sake of the citizens and their future. Everyone knew what that meant: they will literally be hosted at the most important building if the city!

Not only are these children special because of their unique franxx but it is confirmed that they have a connection with White Glint's current pilot Raven! –

The clips started to show moments where White Glint and Squad 13 worked together, especially the 'dancing' part against the Gutenberg.

Raven: - What the hell?! How did they get their hands on these clips?! –

Ichigo: - This isn't supposed to happen? –

Sally, Raven, and Orion: - NO! Some parts aren't public access! –

Orion: - My father is going to fire someone for this… -

Squad 13: - Ehhh?! –

Naomi: - Relax, he means that they're going to lose their roles of work guys… right? –

Raven: - Knowing Orion and his father… both meanings can be a possibility… -

Kizuna: - And that's not the best part! We managed to confirm that Raven, the chosen student of the famous ace LYNX, Zorran Richtofen, the "Last Raven", has finally found an official pistil partner! She is known as Naomi, ex-Parasite of code 703! It was about time that the student followed the steps of his teacher! –

To the horror of the two mentioned, photos and clips about the couple appeared!

When they looked at the TV screen again, they saw a picture of their whole squad, standing at the front of the auxiliary line alongside White Glint and with the words 'Thank you' printed on a footnote below it…

Riku: - … and from the bottom of our hearts, we thank these young pilots for leading and securing the final line of defense of the Ark for without your efforts, the story would have ended differently for our people. You may be auxiliaries for now, but with the actions you committed towards defending the Ark… we all consider you as great aces in the making. Thank you! –

The last clips highlighted the actions of Squad 13, going against all odds to make sure the walls of the ark stayed intact, even at the last second. That was when Sally shut down the screen as the children beamed with pride…

Sally: - Well… at least it ended with a cherry on top. However, the senator and high command is NOT going to like this… -

Ichigo: - Because it is unauthorized if I understand? –

Sally: - Yeah… this is also something you must learn kids, not every bit of information that we know is always available for the people out there… if not delivered correctly it can have unintended side effects that can prove troublesome, sometimes fatal. –

Goro: - But why? The more you know, the more you can do to solve a problem, isn't it? –

Sally: - Some problems simply don't have a real solution or give the illusion of one. A very harsh truth about the world we live in. –

Everyone got confused at her response but whatever thoughts they had was interrupted as Orion announced: - We're arriving at the SMC academy "Fate" kids. Leave your luggage in the car, Manfred will take it to the mansion as we stay in the place. And considering the recent news… prepare yourselves… -

Titus: - Is it really that bad? Even I think you may exaggerate a little. –

Raven's glare was his answer…

Titus: - Ok… shutting up now… -

The vehicle soon stopped, and everyone heard Orion and Manfred walk out. Soon enough, the mentor said: - Raven, we're in the clear. No fanatics around… -

They all came out to look at the building and, again, their surprise didn't end there…

The academy building was a HUGE inclined white tower with a crystal dome in the back. The tower was covered in green bushes at the front revealing a few balconies between them while glass covered the whole back, giving anyone on that sector inside a good look of the dome. From their spot at the entrance, they could also see a lot of areas that were connected to the place and some people walking around in different uniforms. (I'm basing the building on the famous Montreal Tower and the area around the academy on the Olympic Park area on Canada. I personally visited the place just a winter before the 2020 pandemic lockdown, so I was very lucky. The area is also perfect.)

Zero Two: - Impressive… -

Orion: - Thank you… *looks at the entrance doors* Oh, and it seems we have a welcoming committee… -

Everyone looked to see two teenagers that looked closely to Orion's age alongside two adults. The teenager boy was blonde with smooth hair and blue eyes while the girl at his side had dark hair in a ponytail and red eyes. Both were dressed in elegant uniforms of black and grey. (The 'Operative C' uniform from the "Advanced Synth Uniform and Institute Pip-Boy (EN-FR)" mod for Fallout 4 made by DiodeLadder on Nexus mods. Oh, and the couple are based on Shirogane and Kaguya from 'Kaguya-sama: Love Is War'.) As for the adults, one of them was a man that looked close to the doctor in terms of age as he had white hair, green eyes and was wearing a white lab coat embroidered with the SMC logo on the right side. (Looks like Father from 'Fallout 4') The lady at his side was much younger than him but still an adult nonetheless, she had green eyes behind round glasses, was also blonde and her uniform showed she had quite the tentative body… (Based on Glynda Goodwitch from RWBY. RIP the series, they got 'Game of Throne-d')

Squad 13: "What is it with the SMC having good-looking girls?"

As the squad got closer to the entrance, the 4 people awaiting them moved towards them. The first one to greet between each other where Orion and the old man…

Orion: - Director Fercus Donovan, it is a pleasure to see you again sir. –

Fercus: - The honor is mine captain Orion. It always brings joy to me to see again one of my old students return to its roots… -

They both hugged before he went on towards the rest: - Vice-director Isabelle Dupoint. A pleasure to see you again too… -

Isabelle nodded as she too shake hands with Orion before he then went towards the two teens and hugged them immediately: - Rufus! Kalia! Glad to see you again guys! Doing your master's degree here? –

Rufus: - Not only that, but you're also talking to the actual president of the student council now… -

Kalia: - Show off… -

Raven: - Did one of you two finally won your lovers' quarrel? –

Both blushed immediately while both said: - I DID! –

Fercus: - Both confessed at the same time and are still in denial of it being a draw… -

Rufus: - FATHER! –

She bowed in respect, and everyone decided to follow her example…

Naomi: - Sorry but that honor belongs to my friend Ichigo. –

The leader soon said: - Greetings sir. As she said, my name is Ichigo, code 015 and leader of squad 13. Our group are still active Parasites but are glad to be acknowledged as SMC auxiliaries too. –

Fercus: - Ah, so you're the one who led the defense. It is a great honor to meet you in that case. People like you are hard to come by and even harder to find such a young one with great talent like yours. You did a fine job during the defense. –

Ichigo was proud of being recognized like that… at least until Isabelle spoke: - You're still quite flawed on many parts though. Considering the footage, we have seen, you're still way behind the skill ceiling that even rookie LYNXs have. At best, you got what is usually called as "beginner's luck". –

And just like that, the squad's pride took a fall…

Fercus: - Isabelle, they're newcomers to our ways. Give them some slack… -

Isabelle: - An elite squad would have eliminated the Reaper that attacked them without receiving casualties and avoiding the big explosion at the end. It was thanks to some luck they managed to regroup in time before that beast went for the walls. I can't simply cut them some slack for almost failing… -

Everyone in the squad for some reason was starting to feel frustrated now and Orion managed to sense it, so he intervened…

Orion: - Ok, I will have to stop you right there miss Dupoint. If you have any complaints about the performance of auxiliary squad 13, take them straight to me. These kids are under my mentorship and I'm aware that their performance during the battle, in comparison to regular SMC squads, is a little lacking to say the least. But as mister Donovan said, I can see and sense their potential so please be careful of stamping the spark out. –

Isabelle sighed then said: - Apologies if I offended you in some way captain Orion. But it is important that cadets like them heard the harsh truth without restraint. –

Everyone but Squad 13 simply sighed at Isabelle's statement before Farcus soon decided to change the mood.

Fercus: - Anyways, children it is my pleasure to welcome everyone to the SMC academy campus 'Fate', where the future of our nation is made, and our path is defined. If you could please follow me inside, then we can start the tour around the campus… -

Everyone's mood improved as they walked through the doors and soon saw in wonder the atrium area…

The place had a reception area at the front that was filled with comfy furniture alongside many flowerpots. There were two ladies and one man attending it and once they saw the group come in, they stood up and bowed to Fercus, who corresponded the greeting.

Male secretary: - Director, we just got a message from the board. You and miss Dupoint are needed at the meeting room urgently. –

The two adults sighed before Fercus answered: - It seems that the tour will have to continue without us… -

Rufus: - Director, I can cover the position as the tour guide for the group if necessary. I don't have anything planned for this afternoon. –

Kalia: - I wouldn't mind helping along too. No offense to your son director but he is a little dense about the opposite gender. –

Both simply stared at each other that was more of a kind glare…

Raven: - Something tells me that your decision to become a couple came out as a spur of the moment when both of you confessed… -

Both: - It wasn't! It was planned! –

Zero Two: - Yeah, even I don't believe that, and I hate plans… -

As both pouted, Fercus simply smiled and said: - Well, in any case, I thank you for volunteering yourselves president and vice-president. Just wait for a moment… -

He went to the reception as the two girls gave him a bundle of nametags before he returned to the group and passed it to Rufus…

Fercus: - Here, give our guests their nametags. They have an ID cell inside that will allow you to pass through the doors towards all approved areas according to your category as 'visitors'. Both adults left, used their IDs on the elevator's pad that soon scanned them and granted them access, entered it, and the doors closed behind them, leaving the children and teenagers alone.

He did so soon enough while they walked until they found a hover cart that had space for all 18 of them and hoped on, with Rufus on the wheel, Kalia on the copilot, and everyone else at the rest of the seats as they started the tour. Their first destination was the training dome, where the children of Squad 13 soon realized that even in buildings, size can be deceiving. From the entrance, the dome seemed the same size as the one above their board house, yet once inside they were impressed of how much their perspective changed for the dome also expanded a few meters underground, meaning there was more space for training simulations with lots of different scenarios. As a matter of fact, they were lucky enough to see an ongoing class when visiting, showing a group of 4 MT's working together to shoot down holograms of klaxosaurs…

Ichigo: - Why are they using MTs? –

Rufus: - Is the first step on a LYNX career. You learn first to pilot an MT before moving on to the ACs and then to the NEXTs. –

Goro: - Wait, ACs? –

Raven: - Oh right, I forgot about that part… -

Zero Two: - What now? –

Raven: - Let me handle this… remember when I told you that NEXTs are basically Franxx but better? –

Everyone nodded and then he continued: - Well, ACs is short for Armored Cores, our equivalent to Franxx. To be sincere, the only difference they have compared to NEXTs is the lack of PA, Zandatsu and other specific modules that boost a lot their performances. Still, do not underestimate them, a basic squad of 4 'normals', as they are called, is more than enough to guarantee the protection of a Man 'O' War. –

Ikuno: - Like the shield mechs… I mean ACs that held the line at the battle? –

Raven: - Exactly! –

Titus: - Wait… so that technically means that our Franxxs are now better than your regulars! –

Kalia: - Technically but sometimes what matters is the skills of the parasites, not the ride… -

Orion: - In other words, not even the best NEXT will do its job if the pilots are idiots and overconfident… -

Squad 13: "Also you, sensei?"

They stayed there watching the practice session until it was over a few minutes later and proceeded towards the west wing of the campus, where the sports area was located. The area was dedicated to installations that developed the physical attributes of the students and it showed as it included racetracks, an aquatic dome, tennis courts, volleyball courts, soccer fields, an American football stadium and field, etc. It seemed the campus had all the installations for all the popular sports of the 'Old World'. After looking around the area, they went to the north area where the dorms and all quality-of-life buildings were located. This meant the student and teacher dorms, cafeterias, recreational areas, gardens, spas, a theater, even an arcade that tempted many of the auxiliaries to try but, in the end, had to pass because of the tight schedule. After visiting that area, they went to the east wings of the campus, where all the academic installations are located. This sector was dedicated to the intellectuality of the mind, and it was shown by the vast number of laboratories, classrooms, workshops, conference rooms and even a nuclear test room! Obviously, the last one alongside many other rooms were off-limits but as the children learned throughout the whole journey, it seemed that the campus was used for more than just teaching future LYNXs how to fight…

Mitsuru voiced everyone's questions as they travelled to the 'wellness center', a building dedicated to the health of students, teachers and even some non-affiliated civilians: - I'm probably going to offend someone by asking this but why do you have so many fields that aren't related to fighting? –

Kalia: - We aren't offended, don't worry. It's the most common question we got from most auxiliaries so I can gladly tell you why. You see, we won't be fighting forever. –

Squad 13: - Huh? –

Kalia: - One way or another, events that are either out of our control or even by our own volition, we will be fighting no more, and we will move on from piloting. When that happens, what will you after? This is why we have this vast number of fields to study: they will become our careers once ours in the SMC is done. –

Zero Two interests got picked: - You mean to tell us that your pilots don't have to fight for their whole lives? –

Kalia: - If you mean in the literal sense, yeah. According to the laws of the RF, all boys, and girls of 15 years of age must attend the SMC academy so that they can start forming their careers both as an expert in the field of their choice and as a LYNX too. Once enrolled, they perform 3 years of hard studying and training before being officially recognized as a LYNX and an expert in their field of study. When that happens, they are assigned to a Man 'O' War where they will perform their duty for a minimum of 5 years before finally being given official leave as recognition for their service and when that happens, they are giving many choices pertaining their future. –

Zorome: - Which are? –

Kalia: - I'm afraid we can't tell you those details because, even if you're auxiliaries, you're still active units under APE and is complicated to talk about it without violating some of their rules… -

Some of them grumbled but soon their attention got diverted as they reached the 'wellness center'. All around campus, squad 13 had the benefit of seeing a lot of young tweens close to their ages and some teachers going towards their classes or taking their time lounging around. Some of them waved at them as a friendly gesture, others simply ignored them as they had more pressing manners to attend to, and there were some that seemed to light up in joy and point at them as they recognized them as the famous 'Squad 13' that appeared on the news. Fortunately, the presence of their two sensei deterred those fans or toned down their excitement, something that Raven really appreciated out of everyone. Even so, the amount of people they had met around the campus seemed to dwarf a little as the 'wellness center' was packed with a lot of them. It was as if something important was happening there…

Mitsuru: - Why are there many people in here? –

Rufus: - It has to do with the recent battle. The number of injured we received were higher than we expected so there's a lot of work going on right now to heal them. –

They disembarked and entered to see that it was true, as many medical students alongside regular staff and doctors were moving around everywhere, sometimes alone and sometimes alongside others pulling medical beds or stretchers filled with injured. It made the Parasites feels bad for both the injured and their caretakers, as the festival was about to happen tomorrow, and they won't be lucky enough to participate in the event…

Kokoro: - Will they be alright? –

Rufus: - Some of them only have minor injuries that will only take a few days of recovery. The others however… well their piloting days are over… -

Many of them were in shock to hear that and were about to ask what that meant when they were suddenly interrupted as a girl ran towards them…

Girl: - Wait… stop please! –

Everyone did so and she soon did so once she reached them, panting, and breathing heavily…

Orion: - Can we help you? –

The girl, a red-head with short hair with crimson eyes, soon recovered her breath and said: - I'm sorry for interrupting your visit, but I wanted to reach to you for something important please… -

Her voice sounded familiar, and it was Raven the one who answered: - Hang on a second… you're the one who voiced her disdain with Zero Two during the briefing before the battle. –

Everyone seemed to be on a cautious mood at her now, even if her reaction was to be expected considering Zero Two's reputation before joining squad 13. This did make the girl a little nervous around the many neutral faces that suddenly formed but soon Raven calmed her…

Raven: - Listen, we don't blame you for reacting like that back there. We are aware that Zero Two's reputation isn't the best with APE forces now, so as long as you don't have any ill-intent against her for now, you can relax around us… -

The ex-Parasite stood in confusion before she sighed and calmly said: - Listen, I don't want to cause any more trouble for now, but I'm here for her. *Everyone was surprised at her declaration* Two of my squadmates are interned here in the hospital and their room has windows that allowed them to see you arriving. They want to personally thank her for saving both of their lives. –

That was when everyone remembered that Strelizia and Argentea managed to rescue two damaged units and their pilots from certain death at the Reaper amidst the confusion. They had genuinely forgot about it for the following days…

Zero Two: - Oh! Well… ummm… -

Zero Two may had developed a reputation of being 'cold' with everyone but ever since the defense, she was now allowing some chunks of warmness to filter through her masquerade whenever she was with her new friends. A great improvement considering to how she treated them at the beginning. With its access reserved for only the most important people of the whole city and the staff in charge of keeping it running, it was no wonder the building is considered as a symbol for the elite, as the children realized as most of the servants on the mansion wore a symbol of the building on their uniforms. Many of them were going back and fort bringing makeup and hair products to Sally as she diligently prepared Naomi with determination, even as the latter was getting a little uncomfortable…

Naomi: - Are all of these cosmetics really necessary? I feel like you're painting a new face on me. -

Naomi decided to thrust her on that…

Meanwhile, Raven was at the lounge area of the mansion sitting on a couch, already suited up and trimmed for the date. The suit he had chosen was quite simple but elegant, in his eyes the perfect combination for tonight with its white and gray colors, similar to the color scheme of White Glint. (The pictures for the couple's vestments will be posted on Wattpad!)

Alongside him were the rest of the boys, looking through the Holo-TV of the room something about sports alongside Orion. Apparently, they had managed to recover lots of old files about those and managed to transform most of them into compatible archives to be seen and reproduced for everyone who wanted to see them. And just like they had done for generations, they soon caught the attention of the kids as they saw one of the most popular sports of all times…

Zorome: - So this 'soccer' sport was so famous they had to make a special global tourney for it? I can see why! –

Orion: - Yep… it was called the 'World Cup' and it was one of the highest honors to host one of them for the chosen nation of those times. Although that also meant a very high responsibility and many times the chosen nations proved to not be ready for the challenge in the end. *Stays quiet as he sees a play and then groans…* More than 100 years since that game happened and I still get pissed seeing the BS play. That wasn't a penalty! –

Raven: - You keep repeating that every time you see this match man, just switch to another one. –

Orion: - Geez, being a little snarky today, aren't ya? –

Raven: - Can you blame me? This is my first time hosting a date for a girl… -

Orion: - And your crush, no less… -

Raven: - Shut up! You aren't helping! –

Hiro decided to intervene before those two repeated the earlier scene between the senator and their sensei: - What is it that really worries you, Raven? Naomi and you know each other very well, I'm pretty sure is going to be alright. –

Raven: - *Sighs* If there's something I learned Hiro, is that pretty much anything can happen and is not always something good. –

Hiro: - So it isn't that different to riding a Franxx and considering you're an expert, that means you will have not trouble dealing with unwanted affairs, right? –

Raven couldn't fault Hiro's logic and said: - Well, when you put it in that perspective… yeah, you're right. –

Mitsuru: - How exactly is a date supposed to work anyways? If it is to bring a pistil and a stamen closer, doesn't that mean that the experience is about learning something new between the partners? –

The silence following his question was a little unsettling when even his sensei stared at him surprised…

Orion: - Wow Mitsuru. You had just summarized what many boys had tried to understand for ages, you know? Whichever girl ends up with you is going to be lucky… -

Mitsuru was confused at that but smiled being proud of the compliment. Then his brain thought about a certain kind olive-haired girl which made him blush a little. That was when the voice of Sally came from upstairs…

Sally: - Alright! The lucky lady is ready! But first of all… -

She went towards the stairs, looking at Raven from above before sliding down using the railing and going to Raven to adjust some of his hair…

Sally: - There we go, alright girls! Let her come down! –

Raven's partner soon appeared, and he was left speechless alongside everyone. Naomi was already a beautiful girl on her own way, but all Raven could see now was an ANGEL from the heavens. Her hair had been braided (the twins from Atomic Heart hair style, let's say) beautifully and the dress she was wearing was also simple with the same color pattern he had, but that only made Naomi's beauty shine like a beacon… so captivated was he that it took a nudge from Orion to realize he needed to receive her as she descended from the stairs…

Raven: - Na-Naomi… you-you are… God… words cannot describe it… -

Naomi: - Y-you think it may be a little overboard? –

Raven: - NO! No! No, not at all! *Nervousness intensifies* You really look perfect! –

Naomi smiled as she blushed as it was her turn looking at Raven: "Be still my beating heart…" – Thank you… and you look quite good too! –

Raven: *Blushing* - Well… I was the one to propose this so obviously I needed to be in my best look for it! –

Naomi chuckled a little at his statement which caused him to also chuckle before a cough from Orion called their attention…

Orion: - Glad to see you two went beyond what your partner expected, and I hate to interrupt you like this, but the reservation is due in 20 minutes Raven. –

Raven: - Oh! Right! Sorry, everyone but Naomi and I have to leave now! –

Sally: - Do you have your credit card and spare change with you Raven? –

Raven: - I do! *Checks pockets and pulls out his wallet* And I have my holo-watch too! –

Sally: - Great! Remember to call us if you need help for anything! Have fun you two! –

Raven and Naomi: - Thanks Sally! –

Raven then gently grabbed Naomi's hand and went towards the exit: - See ya tomorrow guys and girls! Me and Naomi will probably return very late while you're all sleeping! –

Naomi: - Goodbye everyone! –

They went through and soon the door closed behind them, leaving behind the Parasites. The boys couldn't believe their eyes and needed a few minutes before they could react, while the girls all looked proud…

Titus: - Woooooah… that is really Naomi? Sensei, I don't know how you did it but what a transformation! –

Sally: - Awww, you flatter me, Titus. Although the hair goes to Zero Two, she did a good job on that one. –

Zero Two: - I would have… if I knew how to braid correctly. You ended up helping me. –

Sally: - Still, it was clear you had a good taste… -

Kokoro: - So what are we supposed to do now? –

Ikuno: - Um… miss Sally. Do you think you could also style our hair like Naomi's? –

The girls had now a look that meant one thing…

Sally: - Sure! As a matter of fact, ever told you what a sleepover is girls? Follow me! –

The girls went with her towards their room while the boys stayed in the living room.

Orion: - Well, the girls are going to be having fun by themselves, so I think it is fair we have ours too. –

Zorome: - Sounds good to me! Now can you please resume the game? I really want to know how the match ends! –

Orion: - Just you wait, after this one I will show you an even bigger match! –

And as both groups enjoyed the night, our couple would be enjoying it even more!

Sometime later, at an elegant restaurant called "The Golden Raven" on the eastern sector of the ring…

A transport arrived at the front of the restaurant and out of it came Raven and Naomi, the former looking glad to see that they had arrived in time…

Raven: - Alright, we made it in time. Thank you, Manfred! –

Manfred: - Just remember to give me a call and to not drink any alcoholic beverages mister Raven. –

Raven: - We won't… "and what makes you think I will, Mandred? I'm not Zorran!" –

Manfred: - Good, enjoy your time young ones. –

He left them just as a server arrived to receive them: - Welcome to the "Golden Raven"! Do you have a reservation with us kids, or are you waiting for an adult in our establishment? –

Raven: - I have a reservation here on the name of Raven Richtofen… -

The servant seemed surprised at that; he probably wasn't expecting the clients to be tweens just entering their adolescence! But he had also heard of the famous "Lost Raven" and knew he was the hero of the hour, so he soon bowed and said: - O-of course! We have your name on the top of our list! Please follow me! –

They both did and Naomi got to admire the luxurious ambient of the restaurant: around them were elegant patrons either talking or in the process of eating some delicious food from elegant dishes being served by the servants who also wore elegant uniforms and great manners. A few of them turned to look at the couple of tweens before resuming their dinner, which made Naomi a little nervous as she tried looking anywhere but the guests and that is when she saw a golden statue of a raven. She tried to look a little closer to it but was brought of her stupor when Raven called her attention…

Raven: - Naomi, come on. –

Naomi: - Sorry Raven… -

They continued following the waiter until reaching a blocked elevator.

Waiter: - Wait here please… -

He then went to the right of the elevator where a door with the plaque 'Manager' was located. He entered and after a few moments, an older man with a grim and serious façade came out of the door and towards the couple. However, when he saw Raven, his face changed into warmness…

Manager: - Ah, Raven… following your mentor's steps apparently. –

Raven: - Oh not you too, Pete. –

Even so, he went to hug him which Pete reciprocated before he said: - Glad to see your business is still doing well, and now you're the manager? I'm impressed! –

Pete: - The old one just retired and because of my experience, I was assigned as the new one. Seems being the only one who had the patience to endure your mentor's "quirks" paid off. –

Raven: - Don't even remind me of that… there were sometimes I had to come here to pick him up… it was embarrassing… -

Pete: - Well, he always came here to remember her… speaking of which, who's the young maiden with you? –

Raven: - Ah right? Sorry, Pete, this is Naomi, a friend from all the way to the Garden, and now my official Pistil partner. Naomi, this man here is Pete. He and my mentor Zorran go way back together as he always served him, in his words, "the only worthy drinks for a LYNX". –

Both manager and pistil shook hands…

Naomi: - Nice to meet you. –

Pete: - Likewise young lady. I must ask, are you really an ex-Parasite as Raven says? –

Naomi: - Well… more like a reject. My code was 703 and I flunked in the final test. My partner back then was Hiro and he got lucky finding another one to pilot while for me it was straight to the orphanage… -

Pete: - Oh… I'm sorry to hear that. I understand that feeling too when it happened to me… -

Naomi: - Wait, you were an APE parasite before? –

Pete: - Yep, code 985. The transport in which I was got attacked and ended up being rescued by a squad of LYNXs. Unfortunately, I got an injury from that day and wouldn't be able to pilot again. –

He then folded a little up his left leg pant to show Naomi he was using an artificial one rather than a real leg.

Naomi: - Oh my… -

Pete: - Fortunately though, that was when I discovered that I had a talent for making drinks both alcoholic and non-alcoholic. So, I transferred to cooking classes and now here I am. –

Naomi: - Impressive. Never thought that I would see an ex-Parasite having a career for so long. –

Pete: - There are more of us out there, girl. You will be surprised how much work is out there to make this world better… -

Raven coughed to call their attention and soon said: - I'm glad you two are getting along, but do you mind if can get our table first Pete? She and I are on a date after all… -

Pete: - Ah! Of course, right this way please… -

He went to the blocked elevator and slid his ID unlocking it. The door then opened and the 3 entered it and went up. Again, Naomi had to hold on to Raven for her fear of heights, but it did come with a silver lining: right in front of her laid a beautiful picture of the city at night. Rather than have just white lights, many buildings had multiple colors of them to give variety and, in some cases, make beautiful nocturnal figures. Soon enough, they reached the top of the elevator, a special balcony with a view to the city and decorated with beautiful flowers.

Pete: - And here is your table. –

A white table big enough for two people and two comfy chairs was set ready with a vase of flowers in the center which looked familiar to Naomi for some reason…

Raven: - Thanks. –

He then went towards one of the chairs and offered it to Naomi: - Here, this one has a better view. –

Naomi blushed and smiled: - Thank you Raven. –

Pete: - Ah… just like with your mentor and his girl… you sure aren't following his steps? –

Raven: - Peeeeete. Do you want me to tip you or not? –

Pete simply chuckled as he shut up and once the couple settled down, he said: - I will set up Toby as your waiter. Consider that because of the place, you may receive your food a little longer than usual. –

Raven: - No problem for me. –

Naomi: - Me neither, thank you. –

Pete: - In any case, welcome to the "Golden Raven". I hope you enjoy your dinner. –

He then left through the elevator just as the music started…

Raven: - Huh, nice touch. –

That was when Naomi saw him holding the menu to her which she accepted. Soon enough, seeing the many options for the dinner, her stomach started to grumble…

Naomi: - Wow… I can now see why Futoshi likes eating… -

Raven: - I know, some of these dishes are really good. –

Naomi: - Have you been here before Raven? It seems obvious considering how you know the manager. –

Raven: - Yes and no. My mentor always used to go to this restaurant to eat and drink even before I was rescued. I ended up coming here most of the time because I had to basically yank him out because he passed out from drinking too much. The staff are great people though, they knew him, Yukino and now they know me. As a matter of fact, I think I learned more about the 'Old World' from them than from Zorran. –

She giggled as the elevator opened up to reveal a robot butler that took Naomi by surprise…

Toby: - Greetings! –

Naomi: - Woah! –

The robot butler had a spherical body, three arms and three eyes while wearing a bowler hat and painted in black. (Based on the Mister Handy from Fallout 4)

Toby: - Oh, pardon my young lady if my appearance has caught you off guard. I tend to sneak past many these days… -

Naomi: - No, its not that… is just, what are you exactly? A drone? –

Raven: - Oh, right… Toby, my partner here is an ex-Parasite and I haven't told her about the difference between drones and robots. –

Toby: - No problem young Raven! Always glad to enlighten newcomers of our ways! In someway you're correct miss… -

Naomi: - Naomi. –

Toby: - Thank you. You will see, the Artificial Intelligence in a drone consists of basic algorithms that allow it to make its job although limiting its interactive capabilities, while for robots like me, ours are more sophisticated that allows us to have some interaction in context with our assigned roles. –

Naomi: - Oooook… I think I get it, more or less. –

Toby: - Splendid! Now, do you want me to get you both lovebirds something to drink? I must inform you that because of your young age, alcoholic beverages are strictly prohibited. –

Both blushed red as he mentioned the word 'lovebirds' with Naomi becoming a little stuttering mess while Raven said: - A jar of fresh iced tea Toby. –

Toby: - Right away! –

He left towards the elevator giving the couple some time alone as she then said: - I didn't know you could use robots like that… -

Raven: - They also cover a lot of roles either in the military or on the civilian areas. Robots in many ways are a useful companion for humanity, as they can do what we can't sometimes. –

Naomi: - *Remembers Doomslight* Does that include piloting NEXTs and Franxxs? –

Raven: - Oh boi, that is a can of worms I do not wish to open to be fair Naomi. But to put it simple, there are people that believe that AI can help spare lives and the economy because they can be cheapier and easily mass-produced. However, the other side of the debate arguments that quantity does not equal quality and that AI can't reach the skill levels of human LYNXs and could essentially cost us more. –

Naomi: - I see… *maybe this is another reason why APE hasn't tried that neither.* -

Just then, Toby returned with the iced tea jar, and two glasses. Once he served them, he then said: - Here you have. Now, have you decided yet on what to order? –

Naomi looked uncertain but Raven soon said: - We will have the 'Golden Nest Ramen' delicacy please. To share. –

Toby: - Aiming high for her I see! Very well, it will be ready in 15 minutes, do you want me to bring something else? –

Raven: - Oh, and a strawberry cheesecake for dessert please. –

Toby: - Righto! –

He left again, and this time Raven said: - You're going to love this plate, Naomi. It was the first one I tried when I went here for the first time and had eaten it ever since I could. –

Naomi: - Is it really that delicious? "And is there a way to replicate it?" –

Raven: - The best! I bet that even a klaxosaur would leave magma for it! –

Naomi chuckled at the joke, and both went on to talk a little about how the day had gone today and some of Raven's experiences at the academy…

Naomi: - Did you really do that?! *Laughs…* -

Raven: - Yes! And the best part? After they deep cleaned the whole mess up, they forgot that their second 'package' had been left behind on their headquarters and it was armed! So, when they tried using that as a backup plan against me, it was back to square one for them again! *Heavy laugh* Well… that was how me and Orion got our payback against those leeches. –

Naomi: - *Giggles* Even while away and with the years, you still acted like the Raven we knew on the Garden. –

Raven smiled and that was when Toby returned with the Ramen on a tray. Once both young tweens looked at it, their stomachs went wild and took control of their minds as they drooled at the smell and sight of it.

Toby: - Here you go! A 'Golden Nest' ramen to share! Your dessert will come out once you're done with the dish. Now, I will leave you both so that you can enjoy. –

He did so after setting down the soup plates alongside the tray and the silverware. The ramen looked and smelled super delicious and soon both LYNXs knew what to do…

Raven and Naomi: - Itadakimasu! –

Both started to eat and boi, did the ramen made them happy!

Naomi: "Is like having a bomb of flavours in my mouth! Futoshi would enjoy this!"

Both she and Raven ate peacefully and slowly to enjoy the delicious taste while also making some conversation. Some minutes passed and their bellies started to feel full as the ramen disappeared little by little…

Naomi: - This is incredible Raven! Thank you for choosing this one for both of us! –

Raven: - My pleasure Naomi! This dish really brings me a lot of memories! It was my mentor's favorite too… -

Both ate a little more before Naomi started having some serious thoughts that she had put on hold since then and decided that right now, it was the moment she needed to ask them…

Naomi: - Raven… -

Raven: - Hmm? –

Naomi: - Your mentor, Zorran. How was he, the man who raised you here? –

Raven stopped eating for a moment as he seemed to think about his answer before sighing and talking: - He was… for a lack of a better word, a father for me. Not like Papa, who simply sits at the top of his glorified space chair and only bosses around… -

Naomi: - Raven! He is humanity's last guardian! –

Raven: - Is he? Really? *His tone becomes agitated and angry* THEN WHY DID HE KILL MY FATHER FIGURE THEN?! –

He slammed the table startling Naomi just as Toby came back…

Toby: - I'm here for… Woah, it seems I may come later… -

Raven: - No! Just… *Sighs* Bring the dessert please. –

Toby: - Ummm… alright, right away sir. –

He left and Raven held his hands to his face as he then said: - I'm sorry Naomi… I really am… it's just… I… -

Naomi then grabbed his hands and with a compassionate face told him: - I understand Raven… I had these feelings too for a little while when Hiro basically made me flunk… I can forgive you for this, but under one condition… -

Raven: - What is it? –

Naomi: - Please… please, can you tell me what happened with him? Please? I want to help you and for that, I need to understand that burden… -

Raven: - But Naomi… -

Naomi: - Raven, you promised me… and you won't go back on your promises, right? –

Raven was silent but soon sighed and soon said, resigned to speak: - Very well, but I must warn you that in this tale I will be telling you a hurtful truth that will probably shatter you. So, I will ask you only this once: are you really ready for this? –

Naomi: - Ever since you helped me become what I was prepared to be… -

Raven: - Very well, sit down and be prepared for I will tell you a cruel story… -

When Toby returned with the dessert, he found Naomi clinging and hugging Raven while crying into his shoulders as he tried comforting her. Raven was the only one who saw Toby and silently signaled him to "put the dessert to go and the check please" to which the robot complied.

(Stop the music…)

Some minutes later…

The couple had called Manfred to pick them up and were now on their way back to the mansion, although their mood was still low after the dinner. Naomi had stopped crying but had been silent the whole ride and Raven had been growing nervous because of it…

Raven: "Dammitdammitdammitdammit! I knew it was too soon! I knew it, but she insisted! Why?! Why did this had to happen to us?! I ruined the freaking date because of this! She will never forgive me for this!"

He didn't know that Naomi was having the same turmoil inside her: "I had to ask that, didn't I? Stupidstupidstupidstupid! This date was for us to have a good time and I ruined it by asking him about his mentor and his past! What was I thinking!?"

Both were in their little world of distress, they didn't notice the limo arriving to the mansion until Manfred told them: - We're here, don't forget your dessert and have a good night, mister Raven and miss Naomi. –

Both stepped out of the limo, and proceeded to walk the entrance walkway towards the door, and while at it, Naomi decided to finally break the ice: - Listen, Raven… I, I wanted to thank you for the dinner… even if it didn't end like we expected… -

Raven: - Yeah… it's a shame really because the cheesecake is really goo… -

That was when he suddenly tripped and fell right above the cake as he was the one carrying it, splattering on his face.

Naomi: - Oh my goodness! Raven, are you alright!? –

Raven: *Lifts his face* No I'm not, not only the end of our date was ruined… now I ruined the cake! –

He got depressed at this point and Naomi had to think fast… that was when she saw how a lot of cake fragments were still stuck on his face, so she decided to pull a page out of Zero Two's book… she licked him at one of his covered cheeks…

Raven: - *Totally caught off-guard* N-N-N-Naomi?! –

Naomi: - *Tasting* Hmmmm… ah! I see now why it is so delicious! *She then tried her best to make a smug face* I guess I need to seize this opportunity… -

Raven saw through her masquerade and thought: "Ah! Well two can play at that game!"

When Naomi tried to get near his face again, he brought the rest of the cake and splatted it into her face: - You have been served then… -

He then swiped part of the cake with his finger and swallowed it. And once both saw how much of a mess they were? All the tension was forgotten as both laughed their hearts out, before standing back up and sending the remains of the cake into a trash can.

Raven: - You know, even after the whole issue with the 'talk', we managed to end this date in a high note. –

Naomi: - Yeah, I guess that no matter how hard life hits you and me… we can still find a way to smile as we do. –

Raven: - That's why we keep fighting… because we know that in the end, we will smile once again. –

Both looked at each other, warmness, and affection in their eyes as they grabbed their hands and moved their faces closer and closer…

Orion: - *Opening the door* Ah there you are! I was wondering why you were… Oh! –

Raven and Naomi: *200% MAD* - ORIOOOOON! –

Orion: - My bad! - *Closes the door*

Raven: "Stupid universe, always SCREWING the best parts of my life!" - *Sighs* Well, I guess it's time we both enter. We still need to wash down all of this… -

Naomi: - Yeah, I guess. In the end, it was great! I really hope we can do this again soon… and maybe next time, it will be with everyone, free at last. –

Raven: - Let's hope that day is closer than we believe… -

He was about to go for the door when Naomi stopped him…

Naomi: - Raven… -

Raven: - Yes… Hmph! –

Naomi had decided to finish off what they started and kissed Raven on his mouth! It was brief, but it stunned Raven and left him flabbergasted as Naomi finished and said: - Thank you for telling me your burden. I promise it will be our secret until the right time comes. –

She then opened the door and entered, leaving outside Raven still on a stupor, slowly coming to terms to what just happened… and once the whole realization set in?

Raven: - BEST. DATE. EVEEEEEEEEER! –

It took him a lap around the frontal garden before the adrenaline ran out and he entered to freshen up, looking forward for the next day…

And that's a wrap! Man, it was hard writing all of this, but it clearly was worth it! And also, say it with me everyone: the ship has sailed! S.S. Naven has sailed! In the next chapter, we will see how everyone reacts to this new development before their attention is drawn away by the parade! After that chapter, back to canon! Till next chapter!
