Leon had some mixed emotions heading into the school year.

For starters, he was happy that his father had not made much of a scene at the orientation session. In fact, the bespectacled man was nowhere in sight. He was hopeful that people would not make the connection between his last name and that of the main sponsor for this revamped school that also had the Wright logo painted basically in every corner of each hallway. The shadow of his father would loom over him everywhere this school year, he felt.

The boy scratched at the top of his grey hair. He heard the slightest whirl on his ears, and a brush of static electricity tickled at his skin. He flexed his hand and let out a deep breath. He also hoped nobody found out his secret concerning his quirk. The tips of his fingers, painted by the faintest azure glow, throbbed under the pressure of the technology within his body.

The debate raged within him concerning his future. He knew all of this, the school and his quirk, were all designs of his father to give him the best advantage. Yet, there was a small twinge of guilt that plucked at his heart. Was this what he really wanted? Is this what his life was meant for? Was this, he thought looking back down at his fingers, who he really was and who he was meant to be?

However, Leon shook his head and looked back down the hallway towards his new home room. It was a new start. He was going to be taught by Deku, and he knew that his future as a pro-hero was in safe hands. He was given this opportunity to finally be schooled with other people his age, and he hoped to forge relationships that could help him when he needed to save others. He could figure everything else out later. There was time.

Speaking of figuring things out, why was this weird blonde kid grabbing his arm.

"What about you, Leon?" Skylar's golden eyes bore into Leon's which caused his face to blush at the sudden close proximity.

Leon, sandwiched between Lynn and Skylar, blinked and realized he had missed out on the entire conversation. He was also unsure why this boy was grabbing his arm. Was he was being friendly? Perhaps egregious amounts of physical contact was how male high school students bonded.

Lynn leaned on her tiptoes to draw close to Leon's face. "Well? We're waiting?"

Leon swallowed and thought up an eloquent response to add to the conversation.

"Yeah." Leon said.

Skylar and Lynn flashed inquisitive looks at Leon. "Huh?" They said in unison.

"Uh…I agree."

The two blondes looked at each other. Then, they both burst into laughter.

"You're so funny, Leon," Skylar said and tugged on his arm.

"Yeah, you're like a weirdo, y'know," Lynn added. "But in a good way."

"Thanks, I think," Leon scratched at his head again. Perhaps he was more behind on how teenagers interacted with each other than his research let on.

The group turned into the classroom. It was a bright, warm room with sun pouring through the glass windows overlooking the skyline of Detroit to the west. Four rows of four desks each ran to the back of the room where a set of sixteen cubbies sat with a globe atop the gleaming hardwood surface. The mahogany desks stood on shining chrome legs with the floor being tough hardwood that the room a rustic schoolhouse appearance. A large ceiling fan wafted cool air around the room with the humming from the motor shaking in its holding. At the front of the room rested a giant oak desk next to a matching podium before a green chalkboard. The door was a sliding glass portal that hid within the baby blue walls that coated the outside hallway. Inside, the perimeter was coated in a lush, calming deciduous green that matched the trees dotting the waterfront park across the river in the city.

One interesting object within the room, however, were the candles burning on the desk dead center of the room. The stench of lavender incense burned through the room when Leon stopped at the row of the desk.

"I feel like this is a fire hazard," Leon deadpanned.

Seated at the desk, a smaller boy with obsidian hair and a serious scowl scrunched his bony nose in annoyance. "You dare interrupt me during my meditation session?"

The skinny boy opened his eyes with his hands clasped in front of his mouth. His eyes, black as tar, glared up at Leon with his lips bit from anger.

Then, his fists slammed onto the desk. The dishes the candles melted on tattled, but the flames remained tall with wax dripping down the sides.

"My meditation session," the boy shouted. "My daily chance at connecting with the ancestors that have gifted me the power of the Dragon Lotus!"

"Dragon lotus?" Leon asked. "Isn't that an oxymoron?"

"The only moron here is you, Jack Frost," The boy yelled and pointed at his grey hair. "Now, if you don't mind, I have a lot of ancestors to contact, and they get cranky if I don't talk to them. So away with you!"

He closed his eyes and propped his head down towards his desk. His brow furrowed in concentration while the others in the room just gave each other odd looks.

"I'll just leave him be," Leon said. He passed the man and sat at the desk right by the back window towards the city.

Skylar and Lynn gave each other quick glance. They both shrugged and joined Leon at the back corner of the class. As they took their seats, the other members of the class found their way into the room.

"Uh, why was everyone in hallway so slow," Sige came in and stormed to the row furthest from the front and behind the mysterious boy meditating. "You'd think there was a parade or something going on with all the reporters."

Melanie, carrying a massive stack of textbooks, burst in with the energy of a hedgehog and marched to the very front. "Well, it's obvious. Everybody is so respectful of our schools rules that they refuse to run in the hallway. We are truly blessed to have such a compliant and safety-conscious student body!"

Melanie flung down her textbooks and sat down with her hands clasped in front of her on the desk. If Skylar wasn't in possession of the sole halo in the room, Melanie would have one floating over her head.

The rest of the students flowed through from the raging rapids of students and faculty in the hallway. Aiden strode in next to Merle whose arms sagged low from having to hear about Aiden's insane house parties over the summer. Sam hustled next to him as they found seats closest to the inside wall of the class opposite the windows in the second and third row. Riley snuck in with his eyes narrowed and examining the strange sight that was the future in the classroom. He lingered on the smartphone that Skylar spoke into, curious as to what the functions of an object were. It appeared to have the same use of a telephone but even more computing capabilities. Regardless, Riley took a seat by the front. He felt that he would gain better information by sitting right by the teacher.

Sige, the untrusting German-American, glared at Riley when she entered the room. She was unable to gleam any new information by folllwoing him in the hallway. That Mai girl kept talking his ear off and telling him that he needed to eat more food since he was thin. She took a seat at the back behind Tao. If she was going to keep track of all the strange activities Riley and others would partake in, she would need to survey the entire class at the same time.

"You will slip up, cretin," she said under her breath.

"What was that?" Skylar, seated next to her on the corner, asked.

"None of your business," She said while staring daggers at Riley. The boy had gotten Melanie's attention and asked for a gander at her history book.

"My history book?" Melanie asked.

"I just need to…brush up on some things," Riley said.

"Of course," Melanie grabbed the book and handed it over. "I'm glad a fellow classmate of mine has shown interest in our history. Did you read the summer reading list, by the way? I made sure to go through every book twice if you need assistance."

"No thanks," Riley said.

He opened the history book to learn about the future.

Skylar, behind Leon, finished his TikTok and stared at the back of Leon's head. He chose this spot because it was much easier to post on social media from here. Also, he could stare at Leon's pretty graphite hair all he wanted. It also didn't hurt that Lynn was next to Leon, who he could also take a long look at if warranted.

Lynn peeked over at Skylar from the corner of her eye. She admitted that the bundle of energy was quite adorable. Not only that, but he was famous! While that was not the only thing that mattered to her, she had a feeling that these connections could come in handy. She doubted, however, that Skylar nor Leon had much going on inside their heads. It was best to play dumb around them until she figured out if they were the best people to associate with in order to get ahead at this school.

Ayumu, in the back row to Sige's right, had somehow already made it to the room and was fast asleep. Her snoring waved through the room with an occasional sound that she mumbled to herself. In front of the kid with candles in the center row, Ivan slid into a chair. His tendrils had eyes pointed at every angle of the room.

Mai, meanwhile, was crocheting a scarf in the front row in between Melanie and Merle. The strange cowlick in her hair twitched a little as the needles in her hands clinked off one another.

"So, whaddya think he's gonna make us do first," Aiden asked to Merle. "Some test or tell us his whole life story?"

"I don't know," Merle said. "We'll find out in a few."

"I saw that movie this summer," Aiden said when he took a swig of the drink in his cup. "I doubt that's what actually happened. I mean, Deku's not even that big of a deal anymore. Is he?"

Melanie whipped her head around with the speed of a twister. "You mean Deku? Of course he's a big deal. He was Number One in Japan and even the world before he was kidnapped!"

"Yeah, and he was kidnapped by some crazy lady. Him, Shoto and that explosion guy," Aiden said. "I like heroes that weren't captured."

Sige scoffed in the back of the room. "That isn't the official story, and everyone knows it. He's hiding something. There's no way those three could have just been kidnapped. I bet the feds are behind this. That, or one of them betrayed the other!"

"You've thought a lot about this, haven't you, Girlie," Aiden smirked at Sige who pulled her baseball cap down close to her eyes.

"I know a liar when I see one," Sige flashed a quick glance at Riley. Fortunately for him, he was still engrossed in all of the past that he had skipped. He combed through history while the class went back and forth with each other.

"Perhaps it's just a misunderstanding," Mai said with a bright smile. "Why don't we all get to know each other?l

"That's what we're doing, ain't we?" Aiden asked with another sipe of his drink. "I mean, we have a golden retriever and a girl who sleeps all the time. What more do we need to know?"

"Actually, she's woken up periodically," Ivan said with one of his tendrils pointed at her. "Though she keeps mumbling something. Also, that kid in the corner keeps making videos of us."

Skylar dropped his phone on his desk. "No, I'm not making videos of you all! I'm just posting myself online! By the way, do you all want my Insta? I could use a few extra followers."

"Okay, but aren't you all curious?" Sige stood up to address the class. "Void Industries? What they did to Deku and the other people in that class? They really kidnapped all of those people for five years? And the technology they used. Is no one else interest in knowing what it did?"

"It's the past, lady," Riley set down the history book and glanced at Sige. "And maybe you should just leave things in the past alone."

Sige narrowed her eyes at the sudden challenge. "And maybe you should just leave the future to the people who belong here."

The two glared at each other. Riley, instead of feeling nervous, thought back to his strict soldier training and maintained his composure. After all, what was Sige going to do? Arrest him or somehow prove he was from another time?

"Maybe," Melanie said in a low tone. "We should all relax. It's already been a hectic day, and I'm sure Mister Deku is apoplectic with impatience to meet all of us!"

"So do you normally have a metal rod up your ass," Aiden said. "Or is that just for today?"

As he finished his sentence, a paper ball bounced off the top of Aiden's head. He yelped in surprise and looked over towards the source of the debris.

"Don't talk to women like that," Leon said from his corner.

"That's right, Leon!" Skylar raised a fist in the air. "That's how we do it!"

"Yeah, Fuck him up, Leon!" Lynn shouted. "I'll join in!"

Aiden chuckled and helped his palms out in defense. "Whoa, calm down! I'm not trying to fight. I'm more of a…lover y'know?" He gave a quick wink to Lynn.

"Lover of what, shrimp dick?" Lynn said. "You smell like Axe and cheese. And also your hair is dumb."

"Both of you, enough," Mai turned to Lynn.

Then, something strange happened. Lynn saw Mai's cowlick twitch. Suddenly, her vision narrowed into a black tunnel for just a split second. Then, she gasped and fell back into her chair. Her muscles relaxed, and she felt a blanket of calms soothe over her. Her arms rested on her seat, and the beating of her heart slowed to the pace of a climbing sloth. The warmth of peace slowed her breathing with her mind becoming placid as a crystal mountain lake.

Mai turned to Aiden and do the same thing. He stopped talking and turned straight in his chair to face the front. With the students in line, Mai smiled and nodded at the rest of her class.

"Now, can we please remain calm?" She said as she started to crochet again. "I'm sure Mister Deku will be here any moment, and I'd hate to have this class torn apart instead of grow closer together."

"Yes, Mai," Aiden and Lynn said in unison.

Leon looked back at Skylar. He gestured at Lynn who focused at the chalkboard with a zen like presence. Skylar could only shrug at the odd situation.

The class sat in silence for a few moments. The rumbling of students continued outside with reporters interviewing people in the hallways. Footsteps praddled past and cameras shuttered beyond the sliding opaque glass.

"You know what," Sige pointed at Aiden to break th reverie. "I'm starting to think that you don't actually have low blood sugar."

"Huh?"

Then, the door slid open. The tall, muscular man with the face of a teenage boy sauntered into the room. Izuku's green hair, spiked and vibrant, has droplets of sweat in them while he drew a forced smile onto his face.

The class shut their mouths and watched the former Pro-Hero plant himself dead center. The hustle and bustle of the hallway faded away with the class rapt with attention towards Deku.

Izuku swallowed and regarded each of his students. He had only seen a few of their files beforehand, so he was not yet attaching names to faces. He did give a curt nod to Lynn who waved at him from the corner.

"Hi, Mister Deku," Lynn said in a sweet voice.

Izuku hummed out an awkward acknowledgement through his teeth. Truth be told, he felt incredibly awkward in front of this class. Not only were they brand new, but he already embarrassed himself by shouting like a crackhead in front of the whole school. How could his class take him seriously with such a display?

"Hello everyone," Izuku said. "I am your Professor for Class 1-A. Welcome to the school! I…I know we got off on the wrong foot, but I'm sure we will get to warm up to each other. I'll be your main teacher this year, and I look forward to helping you all get your Provisional Licenses by the end of this semester."

Mai clapped for Izuku. Then, she stopped when nobody else joined in the action.

Izuku cleared his throat and snapped his fingers. The air was thick as ballistic gelatin, and he sat awkward on his desk to showcase an ease and informality that would connect with the children. Aiden could not help but snicker behind his mouth. Riley closed his history book and blinked at his new teacher.

Did this nerd really save the universe? Like…twice? He thought to himself.

"So," Izuku rested his leg at an odd angle next to one of the desk legs. "I think we should get to know one another before we start our first assignment. Why don't w-."

"Oh, my first," Melanie hopped in her seat and raised a hand.

"Actually, I-."

"Greetings, Mister Deku," Melanie announced when she rose from her seat. She strode to the podium in the center of the room before the chalkboard and placed her hands on the oak surface. "And greetings fellow classmates of Class 1-A! I am Melanie Wickman, and I hail from the beautiful Great White North also known as…Canada!"

"Oh no, not again," Izuku said under his breath. "Please, not again."

"Was that a comment, Mister Deku?" Melanie turned towards the desk.

"No!" Izuku plastered on an insincere smile. "Please continue."

Melanie flashed a thumbs up gesture and faced the crowd of bored students again. "Specifically, I'm from Toronto. But, I want you all to know that I am willing to learn all of the cultural differences that we have in this room and become familiar with them in order to make sure this classroom is a safe space for all people. Whether from her in States or even in the faraway land known as the Six! Thank you, and I look forward to the next school year where we will forge our own paths and destinies…together!"

Melanie bowed and curtseyed her pink blouse. In the front row, Mai clapped at the end of the speech. However, she quickly ceased the applause when no other students joined her.

"Okay, thanks Lloy-I mean, Melanie," Izuku said. "I was actually going to suggest that we take a minute and have you all just talk amongst yourselves for introductions, but I guess you may have already done some of that. So, how about we just go around the room and I'll ask some questions to you all. "

"Oh," Melanie lowered her head.

"Great," Izuku stated. "So, let's go around the room. Uh…you in the corner with the dog. What's your name again?"

"My name is Merle," the cowboy said in his canyon-deep voice.

"Merle. So Merle, who's is your favorite Pro-Hero and why?"

Merle crossed his arms and looked over at Sam. The dog huffed with a happy wag of his tail oblivious to any pressure that Merle may be facing. Merle sighed and faced the rest of the class.

"I think I'm gonna go with one of your old friends, Mister Bakugo," Merle said.

Izuku hitched his breath. His face grew hot, and a sharp burst of pain snapped through his nerves. He averted his gaze down to the hardwood with the memories of worse times flooding his mind.

"He seemed very loyal, despite not acting like he was," Merle said. "I know that movie said he betrayed you, but that's just Hollywood. He was hard on the villains, and he knew what he had to do. He wouldn't have ever worked with them. He sacrificed himself for those folks with you at Void Industries, and I think that's the most admirable thing of all."

Izuku bit his tongue hard enough to taste the metallic tint of blood on his gums. The government's official story on what happened at Void Industries was far from what actually occurred. Of course, the movie was closer to the reality of it, but the World Hero Asociation rebuked it as fiction when it at least showed Bakugo's betrayal. Them and the government labeled the twist at the end as simply drama added for attention. However, the still reported that Bakugo had sacrificed himself to save the students.

Izuku snorted in frustration. Despite being honest about what happened to the filmmakers, he had to shut up since the Japanese and American governments that it was in everyone's interest to remain silent after the release of the movie.

However, to the children, Izuku stretched a plastic smile at Merle. "Thanks, Merle. That was very…insightful. Now, the person behind him. Pizza boy."

"Aiden," the blonde with his feet propped up on his desk said.

"Okay, Aiden," Izuku said. "Your favorite Pro-Hero and why?"

Aiden smirked. I like Moxie cause she's hot."

Izuku flushed and covered his mouth. A ripple of giggles snuck out of some of the students. Merle sighed and propped his head on the desk. It was going to be a long year.

"Alright. Enough," Izuku said. "We can just learn about each other as we go along. Instead, I'd like to hop into the first test of the school year. Now, this isn't an ordinary-."

Snore! In the back, Ayumu croaked with saliva pooled on the desk by her open mouth. Izuku breathes with growing impatience and pointed at Sige.

"Can you wake her up please?" He asked just as a beep emanated from Sige's pocket.

"Just a second," Sige pulled out a strange device. It was a rectangular device with a strange orange arrow that twisted on top like a runaway alarm clock. A green light blinked on the tool as Sige pointed it towards Ayumu.

"Something is strange with this girl," Sige said with a suspicious side idea.

"You have quirks," Izuku said. "Something is strange with all of you! Please wake her up!"

Sige swatted the side of Ayumu's shoulder. With a gurgle, the girl opened her blue eyes and smacked her lips. She rose her head up and ran her drooping gaze over the students staring back at her.

"Did I miss something," Ayumu said in a gravelly voice.

"Are you okay," Izuku asked.

"Oh, just a little tired," Ayumu said.

"How much sleep did you get last night?" Izuku asked.

"I got…uh…." Ayumu trailed off. Her vision blurred with her eyes minimizing into thin slots yet again. Her shoulder slumped as her body succumbed to slumber yet again.

"Ayumu!" Izuku shouted. This caused Ayumu to jolt like she was struck by lightning.

"Sixty-nine!" She screamed.

Then, her head slammed back onto the desk. She had fallen back into sleep yet again.

"Nice," Aiden laughed to himself.

"Okay, then I guess I'll just get on with it," Izuku said. "So, you're first mission today will be-."

"Oh, hey everyone, how are you today?"

"Fine," Izuku said. "As I was say-yah!"

Izuku shouted and leapt back as a translucent figure had risen out of Ayumu's body and appeared to have floated from behind her to know standing right behind the still, dozing body. It was Ayumu, but an oddly more healthy version of Ayumu who held a pensive smile with her hands clasped in front of her dress.

"Hey, it's me," Ayumu said. "Did I miss something?"

"You're a ghost?" Sige accused. "No, you're a demon, aren't you? A demon sent from hell!"

"She's not a demon," the boy with candles yelled. "Demons are far less annoying than this class."

"It's me, Ayumu," the girl said. "Wide awake and ready to learn and have my mind molded. Right, Professor Deku?"

Izuku cleared his throat. Perhaps he should have paid more attention to his roster. Despite this, he held his head up and clapped his hands. "Thank you…Ayumu. I guess this is the fun of learning new things about each other! Who knows what we will discover about one another next. So, without further ado, let me tell you of the first test you will take."

He turned around and grabbed at a piece of rope attached to a rolling whiteboard. He pulled it down and unfurled the surface. On the laminated paper was a picture of a bank that rested in the middle of the city.

"This is the First Detroit National Bank," Izuku said. "It's just across the street from Campus Martius Park. Also across the street from a great hot dog vendor. Now, this test is very important, because it will determine your future in this class based off how you score."

Melanie scribbled down every work like a court stenographer on cocaine into her notebook. The scratching sound of her pencil hissed with smoke about to rise off the surface.

"At noon today," Izuku said. "A group of three villains will go into the bank. They will have exactly seven minutes to break in and take as much money as possible. Within that time, they can use any means as they see fit to control the bank, raid the vault, or infiltrate security. They can be violent or they can use quieter means. The heroes that will take them down will be in the area on patrol, but will not be able to enter until security alerts them. Whether that's through an alarm, a phone call, or simply shouting for help outside is up to them."

With a ruler, Izuku pointed at the map of Downtown Detroit on the upper corner of the laminated whiteboard. There was a circle drawn around the immediate area about a mile away in radius from the bank in the center. "If the villains cannot get beyond one mile before time is up, or they are subdued by the heroes, then they are considered defeated. If they get beyond the circle, they will have gotten away with the money. Understand?"

Melanie raised a hand.

"Yes, Melanie," Izuku said.

"Have the villains been able to study the layout of the bank in question?"

"Not yet," Izuku said. "To keep things even, the villains will have until noon today to study the blueprints and map of the facility I have here," he pointed at a blueprint taped underneath the map of Detroit. "The heroes will not know anything of the layout. They will have to simply hunt down the villains were they are located."

"But that's not fair," Aiden perked up in his seat and slammed his feet on the ground. "How can we stop professional villains not even knowing where they are?"

"Because you aren't trying to stop the villains," Izuku said with a knowing smirk. "You are the villains."

Mai clapped for Izuku. However, she stopped when the realization of her teacher's words translated in her head.

Silence. The class stared at Izuku waiting for his next statement. However, none came.

"What the shit?" Sige spat out.

Izuku opened his drawer and pulled out a stack of blueprints to the bank. He thunked them on the center podium and pointed at the cuckoo clock hanging on the wall above the chalkboard.

"It is almost nine," Izuku said. "I will assign you to groups of three. You have three hours to come up with a plan of action to Rob this bank. Then, we will take the bus to Downtown, and you will each have a turn with a different hero trying to thwart you. Whoever is the most successful in terms of value stolen successfully will receive a special prize."

"What if no one makes it," Aiden asked.

"Then it will come down to who got the closest," Izuku said. "And if everyone makes it, then we judge based on the value of what was stolen."

Skylar gasped and turned back to Leon. "Oh my gosh, this reminds me of the time I plaid Javert in Les Mis Junior back in kindergarten! Except now I get to be Jean ValJean!"

"Did ValJean steal from a bank?" Leon asked.

"Enough talking," Riley stood up. "We have a mission. And now, we need to execute."

He took a step for the stack of blueprints. Izuku laughed and held up his hands to stop Riley in his tracks.

"Don't be so eager," Izuku said. "Despite being on a time limit, this is an excellent exercise in learning about thinking clearly and taking your time when necessary. And you will need to be cautious, because the consequences of losing will be quite severe."

"Severe?" Riley asked. "How so?"

"The worst performing team," Izuku beamed at his class. "Will be eliminated from my class and expelled."

More silence. This time, Mai did not even bother to clap.

"Are you already?" Izuku asked.

The students of Class 1-A stared at each other. All of them were suffocated with nerves. Not only would they have to perform at their best, but they would have to rely on each other. Complete strangers.

Fortunately, one of the students was able to verbalize the emotions of the whole class in a succinct, yet eloquent method.

"What the shit?" Sige shouted.
