Author's Note: Hello there! I decided that I wanted to create a new chapter to release on June 30th- the release date for DDLC+!
Will + content be added into MoniTale? Perhaps, it depends what all changes from DDLC Classic and DDLC+, but if it's just more lore and character additions then I think we could be seeing a lot of + Content being added in.
Now then, without further ado
Disclaimer: I don't own Doki Doki Literature Club(or DDLC+~!) or Undertale, however I do own our player.
The music soon came to an ending, and when she opened her eyes again, Monika found herself surrounded by monsters of all shapes and sizes. All had come to listen to her play, all had come and been enthralled by her talents.
Briefly she was stunned, a flush appearing on her face as she glanced away from the monsters around her. "It wasn't that good, right?" She asked, trying to play off the crowd, but they cheered in place.
"It was amazing!"
"Phenomenal!"
"Wish it solved the puzzle but otherwise it's pretty awesome!"
"ah don't be so hard on yourself, you're pretty good at harmonikazing when you want to be." Sans said, counting his gold pieces before offering her about half, or seventy gold pieces. "a fee for bein' such a good piano player." Of course, what he didn't tell her was that he'd also taxed the half, meaning instead of seventy it was only sixty. But hey, that's just venture capitalism for you.
Monika smiled, accepting the sixty pieces and allowing her smile to break into a grin. "Well.. thank you all a lot!" She says softly. "Piano playing... has always been a passion of mine. I'm glad I could share it with you all." In truth, she wasn't bashful at all about those skills.. she was more surprised that so many had been taken in by her song.
Player smiled down at her, happy to see her smiling in spite of his attempts to be or feel angry with her. "Alright, Moni." He said softly when the other monsters began heading off. "Ready to go?" He asked her.
She nodded once Sans left, giving her a wave over his shoulder and pulling out a bottle of ketchup as he did. She returned the wave and nodded at Player. "Yes, let's get going again.. this was.. a fun diversion." She smiled. "I'm glad we had it, it's nice to take a moment and not be walking and fighting all of the time."
"I agree. And who knows, maybe the monsters here won't fight you for a bit? Might be a good time to heal up to full, no telling when Undyne is going to come attack us again." Player replied, offering her the other Unicycle, which she gleefully took and ate as she stood up from the piano and started walking again, back on her journey once more.
She got to walking, learning about the nature of SOUL absorption and if she could ever possibly get the chance to experience this herself, and learning of the case of the Boss Monster, noting it down for later. She wondered, briefly, what a boss Monster would look like. In particular she asked the question of whether or not Papyrus or Torial counted, but of course Player neglected to share information with her out of wanting her to learn things for herself. She was happy he chose to do so, of course, he was sticking to his principles and that... was admirable to her. She smiled a bit, thinking of how his ability to stick to his principles would help them later in life, after all this was over. She held her hand to her chest.
She was filled...
With Passion.
She moved into another room and examined a statue getting rained on, before moving on and finding an umbrella stand. After a moment of deliberation with herself- surely this was a nonsensical thing to do, right? Yet.. she felt it would make her feel even better if she did so- she picked up an umbrella and walked back to the room with the statue, giving it over to the stone Monster, protecting it from the water. After all, water decayed stone over time, with this... that decay may never come, or at least not for a little bit longer. And then music began to play, soft piano-like music.. nay, a Music box from inside the statue.
She smiled a bit, not expecting the song but happy that she had encountered it. She patted the statue's leg and moved on once more, heading back to the umbrella room and picking one up for herself. After all, she suspected, one for her might be useful in a rainy place like this.
Monika was, of course, able to see in front of her just how much it was pouring out thanks to the water above them, so grabbing the umbrella simply made objective sense. She held it above her head and stepped out, breathing in softly. "Hey Player..." She whispered, closing her eyes and breathing deeply as the rain pattered against her umbrella. Enjoying the sounds, how... calming it was. It felt nice to stand here. She could do it forever. Yet...
"Hm? Yeah Monika?" He asked, also looking up at the rain falling from above them, breathing in deeply and enjoying himself, but turning to look to her after a moment or so.
"Could you.. give me a hug..?" She asked him, turning her face away to hide her bashful expression.
"I can tr-" Player stopped, remembering one of the first things she said to him to make him fall in love with her. How she shared his love for the sound.. of rain. How she.. wanted to be held while they listened. Without another word, he wrapped his arms around her, unable to feel her just as she couldn't feel him, but...
They smiled, sharing this tender moment. Holding in the rain. Listening as the water crashed down around them. Not caring about anything else, not worrying about the future, or school work, or what others thought or if they were real... just.. being happy. A pure moment of joy together.
Monika felt tears reach her eyes, this was the closest she'd been.. been to another person in quite possibly forever. It felt... wonderful.
"I.." She had to take a moment to retake control of her throat, which was filling with a heavy lump- the kind only gained when close to tears. Once she had swallowed it down, she spoke again. "I love you, Player."
He paused, and she could feel his uncertainty for a moment. Was he going to brush her off? Remain mad about the others?
Yet...
He whispered back. "I love you too Monika." He whispered. "I love you too."
Tears.
She touched her face softly, she was crying.
But.. she wasn't sad.
This... this was...
Her happiest time. She was so full of... Joy.
Her SOUL appeared. It grew hot, burningly so. Meltingly hot.
Passion.
Love.
Joy.
She could stay like this... forever.
But all things must stop eventually.
As much as she hated it, she couldn't stay here for all eternity. Undyne was probably still out there and she had a surface to reach.
Monika sighed and Player let go. Together they stepped forth into the unknown, walking down this short pathway and stepping through the puddles. She looked down on her reflection and sighed once more, smiling and touching her face. She had a few scratches from earlier fights.. Despite that however, she was still her.
Or perhaps.. she was more than herself? No, such a question was silly. These were characters in a game, right? The world was coded... but why then did she feel so.. Alive here? She shut her eyes and looked up, listening to the music and gentle rain. Maybe.. Maybe she was alive because of how she was changing. Masking friends, laughing, getting closer to her lover.. it all made her feel so.. different inside.
She chuckled to herself audibly and pressed on. She'd see how she felt when this journey was over with.
She stepped forward and encountered Monster Kid, who quickly rushed out of his hiding place from the rain. "Woah lady, you've got an umbrella!" He bounced up and down adorably. "Can you take me ahead of here with it? I don't want to get anymore wet.." He said, giving her his most adorable look.
Monika sighed and nodded. "If it means you'll be safe and next to me, sure. Let's go, Monster Kid." She says, holding the umbrella out so that they could both walk under it.
He quickly moved next to her, shielded by the umbrella, and together they went. The Kid, as per the usual, went off about how cool Undyne was for a time, before informing her of a time when their King visited his school to teach them of responsibility. She found it oddly... different from what she was expecting, given how Torial seemed convinced that if she left the King, Asgore, would kill her.
Perhaps her information was out of date? Maybe Asgore was more reasonable after all... After all, many other Monsters have proven to be rational as well. Maybe he too was more than she initially thought.
She'd just have to find out on her own then.
She and the child moved out of the rain and into a wonderful room filled with bright "stars" at the top. She found them, these crystals, to be beautiful, a reminder of the wish she had made on them before shining in her mind.
And then, in the distance, was the King's Castle, as well as a tiny town. It was grand, massive even. For her to see it from all the way over here.. for it to be that big...
"Woah." It took her breath away. "That has to be- it has to be massive!" It was an imposing sight for sure. Informing her that she still had a long way to go before she was done..
Something about it.. Filled her with Passion.
Player nodded, also seemingly swept up by it's beauty. "I never knew it was so... grand." He admitted, staring up at the castle. "It has to be at least the size of a modern building or more. The Magic of the Monsters is a lot stronger than we give credit for."
Monster Kid smiled and nodded. "Yo, it's really awesome to see. Sometimes I wonder what it's like living in the big city like that, I hear Undyne patrols around there way more often than she patrols around here!" He says, jumping up and down. "It must be really cool.."
Monika smiled at the kid's enthusiasm. "Well I'm going there. you can come with if you want." She offers him, giving him a kind look.
"Woah! That'd be awesome! But I probably shouldn't, my parents wouldn't like if I went that far from home." The kid gave a look as though he wanted to scratch the back of his head.
"That's fine too, let's just enjoy our time for now." She said, waving him onward.
They exited into another area with a ledge. Monika could probably scale it but the kid couldn't without help.
She put her umbrella away and helped him up the ledge before scaling it herself.
"Your so strong!" He says.
"I exercise a lot, keeping in good health is pretty important as you age." She says, and he groans.
"Now you sound like my mom." Monster Kid complains, causing Monika to laugh as they reach the bridge, having decided to skip over the murals this time around. After all what really could be on them?
"That's because your mom is probably ri-" She stopped. The music...
The music was missing.
"Stay here until I get back." Monika orders.
"Wha- but why?" He asked.
"Just listen to me, okay? It's going to be really danger-" A series of blue lights appeared below Monika's feet, causing her to leap up- but as she wasn't in a fight the battle physics weren't on and saving her, meaning she was skewered in a way that if these were real spears... she would be dead.
Thankfully for her, and likely the innocence of this child, they were still just as.. well not harmless, but definitely not instant-kill level. Still, a bit of blood dripped from her lips, which she immediately wiped off with her hand. "STAY!" She ordered Monster Kid in her best adult voice before taking off running.
Her legs, arm, and a decent chunk of her chest and stomach hurt from the previous attack, but she pushed through the pain, glad she was athletic. Her feet knocked against the wooden planks hard, propelling her passed various spears until-
Fshwo!
Another spear appeared in front of her, cutting off her movements and forcing her to dart left-
And into a spear, which knocked her over. "Ow.." She muttered, rubbing her head, which had been injured by he spear.. but at least it hadn't been stabbed this time.
"Ow later, roll now!" Player ordered, and Monika narrowly rolled out of the way of a spear only to forcibly stop herself from falling off of the platform.. where below, she could feel the glaring eyes of Undyne, the knight almost like a predator as she lifted her hand to throw another spear.
She quickly rolled again and got to her feet, taking off running again.
She ducked and weaved and rolled and jumped over what felt like a hundred spears before running into another room-
"Dead end!" Monika shouted to herself, turning around and barreling out-
Clunk.
She stopped moving as Undyne had jumped up to her level, one spear in hand while the she summons another to hover over her shoulder. Monika swallows and draws her weapon, entirely prepared to fight Undyne.
But then she glances down, and spots something under this bridge. Water, and more importantly a bed of flowers.
"How did you say I survived the first jump down here?" Monika asked Player.
He shook his head. "Monika I know what you're thinking and it's a bad id-"
She jumped.
"Oh no-" Player was rubberbanded and pulled down with her.
"Well dear, I think this is your second worst idea ever!"
"What was the first?" She asked, aiming for that bed of flowers and really hoping her beloved hadn't been kidding when he said the lore was she fell down the mountain.
"I'll get back to you if you live!" Player said, genuinely scared for her- fear was gripping his voice-
and then
"Oof!" Monika hit the ground, taking the impact pretty hard, but remaining conscious at least. "Ow.." She muttered out again, feeling a light trickle down her head. More bleeding, great. "Give me a bicycle please." She told Player, who handed her one out of genuine concern.
"You're okay right? Not too injured?" If he could feel her, he'd be checking her arms and legs and head for signs of major injury. "Right?"
Monika ate both Unicycles and sighed as her wounds closed. "Nothing a little monster food can't fix.. jeez though, this is starting to really feel dangerous for the first time."
"I think it's because Undyne's spears can cause bleeding, even if they don't impair movement or leave major lasting damage. Unlike Papyrus who bruises and Torial who only gives the feeling of burns, Undyne is... serious."
Monika looked up and squinted, Undyne's form moved away from the top, no doubt to follow her down here.
"I think you might be on to something.." She admits, standing up. "We gotta get out of here before she makes it down here or worse.. I don't want to even try fighting her, Player." Monika said, moving through the water.
She moves out of the odd garbage room with some level of.. disgust before moving to the door at the end of the-
"HEY!" A dummy- the one she just passed actually- appears in front of her. "You, I know you! You called my cousin a dummy! WE'RE NOT DUMMIES, WE'RE GHOSTS THAT LIVE INSIDE OF DUMMIES!" The dummy... shouts? Does it have vocal cords-
Monika decides to stop questioning it. "I'm sorry, I just thought that-"
"DON'T SA Y! IT'S WAY TO LATE FOR THAT HUMAN! HUMAN!" He was shaking with rage. "RRR I'M GOING TO MAKE YOU FEEL LIKE A DUMMY!" He bellows, and Monika feels her SOUL appear from her chest.
"I really don't want to fight you-"
"WELL THAT'S TOO BAD, BECAUSE FIGHTING YOU TO AVENGE MY COUSIN'S HONOR IS WHAT I WANT TO DO! I'LL TAKE YOUR SOUL AND USE IT TO CROSS THE BARRIER MYSELF!" The dummy bellowed as his music began.
Monika made a mental note- something about a barrier seemed important to her but the past little bit had made her pretty.. forgetful for the moment, so she decided to log it away for now. Time to fight! "Options!"
"Check or Talk."
"Check." She says.
"Mad Dummy, 7 ATK and -40 DEF. Physical attacks won't work on him because he's a dummy." Player explains.
"Well that's good to know." Monika whispers as the Dummy takes his turn, summoning a group of minion dummies and having them launch... cotton balls? At her.
She narrowly avoids the balls, which curve off in a random direction as she does.
"IDIOTS IDIOTS IDIOTS!" The dummy yells, annoyed with the failings of it's little helpers as Monika takes her next turn.
"Hmm.. You guys know you don't have to take that stuff from him." She tells the dummy minions. "After all he needs you or else he'd attack me on his own." She points out.
The tiny dummies all share a glance between each other before nodding and looking at the Mad Dummy.
"OH DON'T YOU ALL START!" He yells at them before growling low. "JUST ATTACK HER AGAIN!" The dummy orders, and his minions all shrug and launch more cotton at her from the sides, while a number of them pop above her and drop down on them.
Monika narrowly avoids the dropping dummies, but takes a number of hits from the cotton balls. Glad that she had chosen to heal up earlier, Monika then retaliates with another talk. "Well that didn't work, I don't suppose you'd be interested in me saying sorry?" She offered.
"Sorry? SORRY? SORRY?! IT'S WAYY TOO LATE FOR SORRY!" Mad Dummy roars and more dummies appear around her from behind and the side this time.
Monika avoids the blasts from behind her and jumps above the attacks from the sides thanks to the battle physics, but pauses as she reaches the apex of her jump, staring down at the Dummy as he takes damage from the magical attacks. "Ohh I- ow!" The cotton balls had chased her up a bit, and she takes a bit more damage before landing on the ground. "Unicycle." She says, and Player hands her last Unicycle to eat, which she does before the next round.
Once again the Mad Dummy summons more little dummies, but Monika avoids them this time, dodging twice and making sure the cotton balls hit the moving and dancing dummy, dancing that she noticed seemed to be in rhythm with the music playing. A nice touch, but not something she could dwell on now.
The Dummy looks pained and annoyed, glaring at his subordinates. "YOU DUMMIES! WATCH WHERE YOUR AIMING YOUR MAGIC ATTACKS!" He yells at them before suddenly looking at Monika, who was smirking. "DON'T YOU GET A-ANY IDEAS NOW EITHER!" He warned.
Monika continues to smirk and then makes a motion with her hands- asking him to attack her again for her turn, which appears to annoy the Dummy further, causing him to growl. "THIS ISN'T FUNNY!" He roars, summoning more dummies and having them attack again.
She avoids the attacks again, dodging twice now that she's figured out the trick. Once she does, the dummy lets out an annoyed gasp of air as more cotton balls hit him despite his efforts to avoid them. 'DUMMIES DUMMIES DUMMIES!" He screeches in annoyance.
Monika sighs, this is going well so far. "You guys, I don't think he really appreciates how hard you're working. You almost got me a few times." She says with a raise of her hand, pointing her finger outward. "Maybe you'd work better if you weren't being yelled at all the time."
"SHUT IT! SHUT IT SHUT IT!" Mad Dummy demands. "They'll get you this time or they're fired, FIRED, FIRED!" He shouts, and the dummies all begin to sweat but appear around her again.
Monika prepares to dodge, and manages to avoid a volley from her left, then one from her right, both of which plow into the Mad Dummy, before taking some more damage as one from the ceiling hits her, stunning her long enough for one from behind to hit.
Even still. "OH SO NOWWW YOU HIT HER!? AAAHH YOU'RE ALL TOO LIABLE, YOU'RE ALL FIRED, I'M HIRING SOMEONE WHO WON'T GET MIXED UP FROM YOUR WORDS!" He grins evilly at her, if that's even possible, and the regular Dummies all head off in dejection while new Robot Dummies appear. "ROBOTS DON'T MIND BEING YELLED AT! NOW GET TO WORK!"
"I know some people who-" Monika is cut off as the attacks suddenly started up again, robots launching missiles at her! "Eek!" She narrowly avoids being hit by the missiles, but they manage to hit her by turning in a way she wasn't expecting, they were a lot like the cotton balls but much faster, and more.. explosiony.
She was lucky magic prevented her from taking legitimate damage or else that would have been the end of her trip.
"AHAHAHAHAHAHA WITH THESE NEW ROBO-DUMMIES I'LL TEAR YOUR SOUL RIGHT OUT OF YOUR BODY!" Mad Dummy chuckled.
"Well that's where your wrong!" Monika informs him. "Because I, uh, I'll hack them." She warns.
"...You can't do that.." The Dummy was skeptical, but mildly concerned.
"Uh- y-yeah I can." She said, forcing confidence. "On the surface I'm a world renowned hacker." She bluffed with a smirk. "So I'd stop messing with me."
"Hhhhrrggh... fine FINE FINE! I DON'T NEED FRIENDS, I DON'T NEED ROBOTS! I HAVE KNIVES!" He summons a really... big.. and really really dangerous looking knife.
Yuri would adore this, I'm sure. Monika thinks, licking her lips and getting ready to dodge, afraid of being stabbed by the knife.
"NYAH DIE!" Dummy yells, throwing the knife!
Monika avoids it pretty easily since it doesn't track. She waits for another.
And waits...
And waits...
"Are you-"
"I'm... out of knives..." He admits, glancing away. "BUT THAT JUST MEANS YOU CAN'T HURT ME AND I CAN'T SAFELY HURT YOU!" He starts dancing excitedly again. "WE'LL BE HERE FOREVER!" He bellows, laughing manically. "I HAVE MY REVENGE AHAHA-HAHA-h-what?" A drop of water hits his head and Monika looks up to see a ghost starting to float down while crying. "What the? ACID RAIN? AAaaahh I'm out of here!" Mad Dummy gives her one more glare and then takes off, floating up and out of the place.
Monika sighs, relieved that it was over. When she glances up she sees Napstablook. "Napstablook!" She says, offering him a smile. "Thanks for coming in there, you really helped us out." She said.
"oh... i did...? i thought i messed up...you and your friend were looking like you were having so much fun..."
Monika smiles at him. "No actually, we were just wrapping up a battle. You got me out of a hard situation there, so.. thanks!" She says, genuinely happy to see him. Mostly because she wasn't sure how she was getting away from the dummy otherwise.
"oh... well i'm glad i could help... uh.. i was going to go home now though... if you want to... "come with" that would be cool..." He glanced away. "no pressure though... i totally understand if you're busy or just don't want to..."
Monika sighed and her thoughts immediately drifted back to Yuri and how much the ghost reminded her of her. Suddenly she was struck by a pang of guilt, this ghost, like Yuri, was shy but... it felt different. Sadder almost. Like.. Sayori.
Could Yuri have been feeling the same way inside? Admittedly Monika hadn't checked those values but.. It was possible that she was more than a masochist. Her words from earlier about how people like Yuri were unrealistic struck her now.. They hurt.
She forced a smile however and nodded at him. "I can't stay there, but I'll walk with you to your house, sure." She smiled.
"Oh..." He sounded surprised. "really...? sure... follow me..." He said floating ahead of her and allowing Monika to fall into step with him.
Monika walked the ghost to his home, waved goodbye, and took her leave.
She walked through into another part of the Waterfall. Where within she finds a shop. Here she purchases a Crab Apple and some Sea Tea. She drinks the tea outside before ordering another for later. She finds the salty flavor to be... nice but a bit.. different to the teas they'd have at home. Still though, it felt like the first thing she'd had to drink in a while, so she can't complain too much. Now armed with her 272 remaining gold and enough food, she takes a breath and ventures on.
She faces down a number of Monsters, but is undeterred by them, quickly sparing them and moving on while completing a light puzzle. She considers looking for the Tem Village, but as she turns around to leave this next room, a darkened one without light...
She sees her.
Undyne.
"Seven." Undyne begins. "Seven Human Souls. With the power of Seven Human Souls, our King... King Asgore Dreemur, will become a God. "With that power... He will finally shatter the barrier and retake the surface from humanity and give them back the suffering and pain that we have endured..." She glared at Monika through her visor, and Monika felt the sudden freezing feeling one gets as their brain feels the need to decide.. a feeling one only gets when they feel themselves being stared down by a predator. Life or death. Fight or Flight. "Understand.. human? This is your only chance at redemption. Give up your Soul..."
Monika tensed up and made a fist, swallowing down and forcing up courage- no choice here, she was cornered.
"Or I'll tear it from your body." Undyne got into a stance to rush her... Monika took another breath up and wished she learned some kind of fighting training as she began to be filled with-
Undyne lifted her arm and summoned a spear, every inch of her body feeling filled with-
"UNDYNE I'LL HELP YOU FIGHT!" A new voice yelled, catching both of them off-guard and causing them to look over as Monster Kid appeared from the grass nearby.
He looked between them like an innocent little child might.
Monika and Undyne shared a glance.
"Yo wait who are we fighting?" He asked Undyne.
Monika sighed, glad that the kid never ever listened to her as Undyne put her spear away and moved towards the kid, calmly removing them from the battlefield, dragging him away by his ear while he complained about his parents finding out.
Monika breathed another sigh. "Player..." She whispered.
"Y-yeah Monika?"
"I don't know how I'm going to fight her when the time comes." She replies, pressing her back against the wall and calming her thundering heart. "I feel kind of... under leveled for this.. if that's the term.."
"Undyne... is a pretty intense fight..." Player admits. "But I still shouldn't help you... not unless you really need it, okay?" He asked.
"I know I know... I just need a minute..."
Author's note: Okay everybody, so I know I promises an LIFoS chapter next HOWEVER DDLC+ got announced and I kind of panicked because this is a MOMENTUS DAY for the DDLC community. If Deltarune Chapter 2 dropped next Month I'd drop everything and bump out another one of these for that release as well.
So then, I hope you guys enjoyed this chapter, not a ton happened this time around but we're about to head into Undyne's final fight, which is something I personally have been building up mentally for basically the entire time we've been here. SO that is going to take a bit of effort on my part. That said I will try not to release it on Monika's birthday since it... ooh It's a heavy one and that's no way to spend your darling dear's birthday, is it?
So with all that said- Review time!
Kerran: Nice story my dude!,also in my opinion,i think the genocide path would make a good lesson to Monika, because she would be forced to face all her past actions, and forcing her to realize that manipulating the games files and deleting everyone was just plain-messed up and was not the solution to her problems, thus prompting her to do better and try different solutions, instead of doing violent...things.
Did i even word that right?
meh.
but hey,that's my opinion.
Me: Unfortunately the Genocide Route will be a non-canonical event in this story, which means it doesn't actually happen at all. Rather it will be.. well you'll see.
{}
IllusionSign: Wooo this is cool! Also the Napstablook Spooky Music event MUST happen!
Also MC best girl
Me: Unfortunately not this timeline, perhaps in another...
Also amazing, every word of what you just said in your second line... was wrong. (Joke)
{}
: HELL YES! THIS WILL BE THE GREATEST FANFIC EVER IF IT IS FINISHED!
Me: I believe the term you're looking for it when it is finished.
