Since she had decided to stick around Portland, Elizabeth realized that it would be a good idea to better get to know the people who were friends with her grandchild's mother.
Adalind was being cared for and protected by Nick Burkhardt. Through him, many others have taken on the task as well.
Elizabeth found it fascinating that so many people, that included various types of wesen, and a grimm, were all helping to look out for a pregnant hexenbiest.
Knowing that her friends would be curious, and knowing Nick would want to ensure everything was alright, Adalind invited Elizabeth to have dinner with the group.
Since the topic of the baby potentially inheriting hexenbiest powers was bound to pop up, Monroe offered to host the group dinner, for the sake of privacy.
Elizabeth had never entered a blutbad's home before. Curious to learn more, she was eager to see with her own eyes how they lived.

"He makes, fixes, and restores timepieces. " Nick explained when Elizabeth entered the blutbad, Monroe's, house and noticed all of the clocks.
"He also has a large number of hobbies." Rosalee added.
Elizabeth thought to herself that the blutbad would be a wonderful influence on her grandchild's life. He was well informed on so many things, he could teach the baby everything he knew.
"Monroe's vegan." Freddie informed her. "But he knows how to season food so you don't miss the meat."
Nick escorted Elizabeth to the kitchen, where Monroe was making dinner. The blutbad smiled brightly in gratitude when she handed him the bottle of wine she brought.
All through dinner, Elizabeth witnessed first hand how attentive Nick was to Adalind. When they had first arrived, Nick got Adalind a flavored iced tea and brought it to her. When the group sat down at the table, Nick helped Adalind get off the couch, then pulled out her chair for her and helped her sit back down.
It made her even more irritated with her son, seeing another man treat the mother of her grandchild so well, when the baby's own father couldn't seem to be bothered.
"Are you going to find out the gender of your baby before having it?" Freddie asked.
"I'm too curious to wait." Adalind grinned.
"Could you let us know when you do?" Hank asked "Wu and the guys at the precinct have put down bets on gender, arrival day, and weight."
"They think it's my baby." Nick explained. "And the captain said it's best to continue to let everyone believe it."
Both Adalind and Elizabeth had the same thought. That in everything but blood, Nick was the father to the baby. He had been there for everything. And he had been more involved in every aspect than the child's biological father.

Nick was with Adalind at the appointment she discovered she was having a girl.
Elizabeth offered to go with Adalind and help her pick out the theme for the baby's room.
Once Adalind discovered she was having a girl, she wanted her nursery to be covered in butterflies.
Nick volunteered to set the nursery up, including painting butterflies all over the walls.
"The baby will have a room perfect for a princess." Elizabeth smiled.
Adalind made a list of everything they were going to need. Then the three made a plan to go out together and get all of those things.
Juliette made her way through the city of Portland. After nearly seven months of being away, she had started to realize Nick might start to move on. She didn't want him adjusting to a life without her. She really didn't want him meeting someone else and starting a life with her.

Juliette knew how much Nick loved her, and fully believed he would have been pinning for her for months. But even Nick would move on with his life and find someone new after a while. Once he started to believe Juliette was done with him, he would take the time to mourn, then he would start dating again.
She was looking forward to seeing him and hearing him tell her how much he missed her and how his life had been empty and meaningless since she left.
She was headed to his precinct to surprise him when she spotted him walking with two attractive blondes. One of whom was pregnant. And Nick had his arm protectively around her. And there was a look of affection on his face Juliette recognized from her own experience.
She became filled with rage.
Who was she? Why did Nick look so enamored with her?"
Determined to find out what was going on, Juliette steered her car toward the trio; straight onto the sidewalk.
It was really only their supernatural reflexis that prevented them from being hit.
Juliette jumped out of her car and started screaming.
Nick put himself between the two women, trying to protect Adalind from Juliette's tirade. This only made Juliette angrier.
A crowd started to gather around the scene. Some taking out their cellphones to record the spectacle.
Juliette was completely unaware of this as the volume of her voice got louder and louder.
"Who is this whore?" Juliette screamed. "How long have you been fucking her? How could you do this to me? You just move on like we were nothing?"
Both Elizabeth and Adalind thought it best to let Nick handle things. Neither one knew Juliette. So they knew they would not have a clue on how to calm her down.
Though in truth it seemed there was nothing that could calm the red head down.
"Juliette, there is a lot that you don't know." Nick kept his voice low and calm, hoping to deescalate the situation, " It's been seven months since you left without a single word. I haven't heard anything from you in all of that time. Please, let's go somewhere private so we can talk?"
"Talk? Are you serious? We have nothing to talk about. You moved on and got another woman pregnant."
Juliette turned her attention to Adalind. "Don't think you're going to get your happily ever after with him, sweetie. I won't be left with nothing while you get to have everything that was once mine."
Juliette stormed back to her car and sped out of the area, smashing into a few cars along her way.
The shopping trip was cut short. Elizabeth called her son, informing him on the situation, and suggesting he have Juliette arrested. Spending some time in jail for destruction of property might calm her down and make her see reason.
Nick took Adalind back home, helping to calm and comfort her after their encounter with Juliette.
"Are you going to try to win her back? I can explain to her that this baby isn't yours. That you were just helping me out."
Adalind was doing her best to fight back tears and keep the hurt out of her voice. Nick had become an important part of her life. She had fallen in love with him. But if he still pined for his ex, there was nothing she could do to keep him with her.
Nick, ever the perceptive detective, heard what she wasn't saying.
"What Juliette and I had is in the past. Too much has happened these past few months. That woman that yelled at us and threatened a pregnant woman is not the woman that I fell in love with."
Nick pulled Adalind into his arms and held her close.
Stroking her hair, he began to place gentle kisses on her head. Adalind looked up into his eyes, allowing him to trail kisses along her face.
Their lips met.
It started out soft and slow, but soon needy and intense. Months of pent up energy created a kiss of fire.
When they pulled apart, for need of air, they rested their heads together and simply breathed.
Grimm
Three hours later, Nick got a call that the house he had once shared with Juliette was on fire.
The neighbor said she saw Juliette with a can of gasoline walking around the house and called the police right away. The house was completely engulfed in flames in a matter of minutes. The fire department, seeing that the building was a lost cause, focused on preventing the neighboring foliage and houses from being damaged.
"We're sorry." The fire captain said. "The house was too far gone."
Nick knew maybe he should, but he didn't feel any sense of loss at the destruction of the house. He felt relief that his neighbors were alright, and that most of anything that was important to him was either at Adalind's or Monroe's. He also felt anger that Juliette had put other people's homes and their lives in danger with her reckless behavior.
That house was his final remaining connection to his life with Juliette, now that it was gone, he felt that any obligation or responsibility to Juliette was also gone.
