While Rick and the other were out searching for weapons, Kagome had decided to spend time with Judith. She and Kirara took Judith outside to enjoy the sun; they walked through the field. As they walk, Kirara's hackles raise, and she begins to growl. She transformed and stepped in front of Kagome and the baby.
"What is it, girl?" Kagome asked.
Kagome peered around Kirara and noticed a woman dressed in white standing outside the fence. Kagome flared her aura, and she could feel that the being there was not of the living. Kagome shifted Judith in her arms and placed a calming hand on Kirara, "It's alright, girl. I think I know who that is. Come on."
Kirara looked up at Kagome and nodded; the Neko-Tama and the Priestess made their way towards the fence. The being on the other side beckoned Kagome to come out. Kagome smiled and shook her head.
"I don't think so, Lori. I'm not going to endanger our daughter."
Lori's ghost bristles, *She's my daughter!*
"Yes, she was, Lori, but she's mine now. I will be the one loving and taking care of her from now on."
*You can't take her away from me; she is my daughter. You already took my husband; I won't let you take my children.*
Kagome sighed, "Lori, I'm sorry, you must not realize it yet, but you died."
Lori looked at Kagome as if she was insane, "*No, I didn't; I'm standing right here."*
Kagome gave the dead woman a sympathetic look, she reached out and touched Lori's forehead, and Lori gasped. She began to remember everything. Being bitten by the Walker, telling Carl to run with the baby, and her running down the opposite way where she was corner by more Walker. Lori remembered the first bite and them ripping her flesh then shooting herself in the head.
Once the images finished, Lori had tears running down her face; o*h my god, I am dead. Kagome, what am I going to do. I can't stay here and suffer watching my kids grow up calling you mom. Is there anything you can do?*
Kagome sighed, "I can pray for you and have you escorted to the underworld, where you will reside in peace. But first I would like to give you a gift. Come here."
Lori passed through the gate, and Kagome touched her cheek; Lori slowly started to materialize, and Kagome handed Judith to her, "You can only hold this form for a short while," Kagome informed her.
Lori nodded and stared at her baby girl, "*What's her name?"*
"Carl named her Judith."
Lori smiled and held her daughter closer; then she handed her back to Kagome; y*ou'll be a great mother to my children, Kagome. A better mother than I ever could have been, I know you will.* Lori sighed; *I'm ready now.*
Kagome closed her eyes and said a prayer to Izanami no Mikoto The [creator deity]( en. wiki/Creator_deity "Creator deity") of both creation and death to please send someone to escort Lori's soul to the afterlife. A few moments later, a Shinigami appeared and offered its arm to Lori.
*Come, my lady, your time in this world has ended. It is time to move* *on*.
Lori nodded and took the Shinigami's offered arm, and nodded to Kagome. *Thank you for everything, Kagome.*
Kagome smiled and nodded. They stood there and waited for Lori to disappear, then headed back to the prison. Kagome wasn't sure she should mention her I encounter with Lori to Rick. She didn't know how Rick would react. As Kagome and Kirara walked back to the prison, a thought occurred to her. Why did a Shinigami take Lori? Why were the Japanese deities answering her prayers? Was it because Kagome was a priestess and still devoted to the Kamis or something else? Kagome didn't know, but it made her slightly uneasy.
Kagome and Kirara began walking back toward the prison when they noticed Rick's pickup coming up the road. She smiled when she saw them pull in. Kagome and Kirara walked faster towards the courtyard. When Rick saw them, he smiled and hugged Kagome, mindful of crushing Judith. He then took Judith from Kagome and kissed her head.
"What were we doing out here?" Rick asked as he put his arm on Kagome.
"Kirara and I decided to take Judith out to get some sun."
"Do you think that was a good idea?" Rick asked, concerned.
"We were fine, Rick, especially with Kirara with us."
Rick looked down at the Neko, and she mewed at him, and Rick chuckled.
As they walked back towards the prison, Rick kissed Kagome's head, "I have something I'd like to talk to you about."
Kagome looked at Rick, concerned, "Is there something wrong? Did you guys have any problems?"
"No, nothing like that. We were able to get a lot of guns and baby supplies for Judith. But there's something very important I'd like to ask you."
"What?"
Rick smiled, "Let's get everything put away and Judith settled, and then we'll talk."
Kagome hugged Rick, "Okay, whatever you want."
They entered the courtyard where everyone was already unloading Rick, and the others had brought. Rick, Carl, and Beth grabbed the baby supplies and headed inside to set up the crip in Kagome and Rick's cell. In an extra compartment, they set up a wardrobe that would hold all of the baby supplies and clothes for Judith. Once that was finished, Beth took Judith from Kagome to bathe and change her. Kagome smiled in appreciation and handed her over to the blonde teenager.
After that, Rick and Kagome left and went back outside; they went into one of the guard towers, where they could talk privately. Rick stood by the rail and looked out over the prison. He reached out and took Kagome's hand.
"We've been lucky. Despite everything that's happened with the Governor, this group has still been lucky. We've had a few setbacks, but I think we've done better than most. And I have been the luckiest of them all to have you in my life, Kagome," Rick said as he turned to look at her.
"You mean more to me than I thought possible. I never knew I was capable of loving someone as much as I love you, Kagome. There's nothing I wouldn't do for you, and after everything that happened with the Governor, one thing is clear. I never want to be without you in my life," Rick said, then he kneeled in front of Kagome.
Kagome gasped and covered her mouth; tears began to gather in her eyes. Rick looked up at the woman he loved and pulled out a wedding ring, "Kagome Higurashi, would you do me the great honor of becoming my wife?"
Kagome was at a loss for words. Instead, she tackled Rick and peppered his face with kisses. Rick laughed and wrapped his arms around her, "Does that mean yes?"
"Yes, yes, thousand times yes!" Kagome nearly shouted.
Rick took Kagome's left hand and slipped the ring on her finger. Kagome admired the elegant but simple design; it was perfect for her. She hugged Rick once more, and Rick laughed.
"I thought that maybe Hershel could perform a simple ceremony to make it more official. What do you think?"
"I'd love it."
Rick hugged and kissed Kagome then they left the tower to inform the others about their upcoming marriage. Kagome thought about telling Rick about Lori's ghost but changed her mind. Now was not the time to give him such news, but Kagome would say to him that Lori's spirit had been taken to the Underworld and that she found it odd that it was by one of the deities that she knew. For now, Kagome would focus on their moment of happiness.
