And here we are for chapter three. You know the drill, so enjoy!
Chapter 4: The Reaper's Line of Sight + DLC: The Last Straw
Music playing: The Reaper's Line of Sight
"Here we go!" yelled Pit as he rushed through the door and flew with his EZ Cannon equipped. He then saw a lot of Underworld monsters and proceeded to take them out. "So, what's our mission this time?" he asked to Palutena. "You remember Reapers, don't you?" she replied. "From the Underworld?" This gave Pit a look of fear. "Not those guys!" he groaned. He then pulled up a picture of the Reaper in its 8-bit appearance from the original Kid Icarus. "They're always freaking out and calling in their little Reapettes," he continued. "Ugh, I'm getting worked up just thinking about it!" (A/N: Ugh. In my opinion, the Reapers are the worst from both games. I'm sure anybody else can agree with me.) "Yes, anyway... About the Reapers..." Palutena explained. "Sorry, sorry, go on," Pit apologized. "They have a fortress near the entrance to the Underworld in Reaper Valley," Palutena continued. "Heh. Which is where?" Pit laughed. "Reaper Boulevard? But seriously, thank goodness we don't have to go there, right?" There was silence for a moment before Pit broke it. "That silence means we have to go there, doesn't it?" he asked worriedly. "Will you at least tell me why you want to go to a place crawling with Reapers?" "I'm trying to find another one of Medusa's commanders, Pandora," Palutena answered as she guided Pit through the clouds. Said angel pulled out a picture about who she's talking about in her 8-bit appearance and asked, "The Goddess of Disaster and Calamity? THAT Pandora?" "Yes, and she's currently residing in the Labyrinth of Deceit..." Palutena answered. "However, some force in the Reaper fortress is obscuring the labyrinth's location. I can't find it, not even with my all-seeing Eye of Palutena." This confused the angel, who was still busy fighting the Underworld monsters. "Wait, if you have an all-seeing eye, why can't you see Pandora's location?" he asked. "Because of my slightly botched laser eye surgery," Palutena replied. "Are you messing with me again?" Pit asked, unconvinced. "Maybe," Palutena answered. "Regardless, your job for now is to infiltrate the Reaper fortress!" "R-roger that!" Pit hesitantly affirmed. Along the way, more Underworld monsters continued to stop the angel from reaching his destination. But, Pit still managed to take them down no matter how many there were. Just then, he noticed something down below. "What are those red lights?" he wondered. "Are they..." Palutena started, until the red lights started to glow like lasers and/or spotlights. "...Reaper eyes?!" "This is really bad!" Pit exclaimed, as the Reapers attempted to spot him while the little Reapettes came out to slow him down. Palutena quickly escorted Pit away from imminent danger. "We need to find you a safe route," she said. Just then, they came across a ravine. "Down there is your only option!" Palutena said as she safely guided Pit into the ravine. "This ravine should take you to the Reaper fortress. But it's tight, so be careful. If you get stuck, I won't have time to get you out." "Man, things are really heating up!" said Pit. "Time to bust through here! Full speed ahead!" "Excellent idea, Pit," replied Palutena. "Naturally, I had the same thought. Let me help." And she did so by carefully maneuver Pit around the ravine to avoid getting stuck. Suddenly, she noticed a large gust of wind right in front of Pit. "Is that a windstorm up ahead?!" she said. "Hang on!" She managed to move Pit through the wind. "Ow!" he cried. "Don't be such a baby," said Palutena. "It's only wind. I mean, at least it's not poison or acid wind. Then you'd be in real trouble." "Ooh, lucky me," Pit replied, sarcastically. Soon enough, Pit noticed a lot more enemies getting in his way. Luckily, he managed to get through them without any harm. "You're heading into a cave now," Palutena pointed out. "Be careful!" Pit soon took out a lot more enemies and got out of the cave. He then received four more Recover Orbs to replenish his health and proceeded to take down more enemies along the way while also passing through strong windstorms. "There are many enemies ahead!" said Palutena. "I'll take care of 'em!" Pit replied, triumphantly. He proceeded to take out more of them, until... "This looks like a dead end," said Palutena. "There must be a way out... Hmm..." She continued to look around to find a way out. Then she saw an opening. "Down there!" she said. "I'm getting you out!" She managed to send Pit into the opening, but Pit must avoid the Reapers' line of sight, or else Reapettes will appear to block his way. "The Underworld forces really stepped up their game!" said the angel. "I doubt the underlings managed it on their own," replied Palutena. "It's a sure sign that Medusa is back in power." Pit later on continued to take down more enemies while avoiding the Reapers' sight. Then he and Palutena saw the way out. "You're almost there!" she pointed out. "3... 2... 1... Contact!" Pit made it out of the ravine and arrived at the fortress, but the Reapers were not making this easier for him. They spotted him and fired lasers from their eyes. "Whoooaaa!" Pit cried. "It's hot hot HOT here!" "There's no chance of getting in from above," said Palutena, worriedly. "You'll have to break through the front." She then sent Pit to the front entrance of the fortress. "Here we gooooo!" he yelled as he rushed to the door. Once he arrived, he crashed through the door.

Pit collapsed to the ground and slowly got back up. "Pit!" said Palutena, worriedly. "Are you all right?" "Never...better..." he replied as he stood up carefully. "Then let's get moving," Palutena continued. "The force obscuring Pandora is deep within this fortress." Pit proceeded onwards while avoiding different guillotines. He then broke three urns to give him food to replenish his health. "Reapers may look all evil and crazy, but there's a good reason for that," explained Palutena. "They ARE evil and crazy. But here's a little tip: they won't bother you if you stay out of their sight." Pit decided to take down a Reaper by attacking it. (A/N: Just like the Merenguy, the music will change to the Reaper's theme every now and then. Remember that now.) It spotted Pit and attacked the angel. Its scythe is powerful to deal a lot of damage and it also summoned little Reapettes to fight in its aid. After a while, Pit defeated the Reaper and Reapettes and proceeded onwards. Just then, he entered an enclosed space that was full of enemies. "Considering this is the Reaper fortress, there really aren't very many Reapers," he said. "There must be a huge soul harvest going on somewhere," wondered Palutena. "What do you mean?" asked Pit. "Reapers are soul carriers," Palutena explained. "When a being dies, they take its soul to the Underworld. The humans probably started another war, which means a lot more souls to deal with." "Why are they always fighting?" Pit asked, unconcerned. "It's so sad and pointless." "Yes, but we gods fight too, and when we do, humans are always caught in the middle," Palutena answered, sadly. "So, this war against the Underworld Army is causing the Reapers to work overtime," Pit theorized. "I'M the one who should be working overtime," Palutena sadly responded. "Then there'd by less soul harvesting... Humans get frustrated, even destructive, when we gods don't provide for their welfare." (A/N: Unfortunately, that happens in our world, too. I just wished everything isn't like this at all, but... life is never easy around here, I suppose.) "Don't be ridiculous!" said Pit, trying to cheer her up. "Everyone loves the Goddess of Light! You know that!" Palutena smiled warmly at his comfort. "Thank you, Pit," she responded, calmly. "I do my best. Now, then... Let's proceed." Pit then continued onwards and found a hidden area that was blocked by a boulder he just broke. "Cool!" he said. "A hidden area!" "Head inside," said Palutena. Pit did so and proceeded to take down more enemies there. But then, once he fell into a ditch, there's something strong waiting for him. "Uh oh," said Palutena. "There's and Orne around you, Pit." (A/N: The music for the Ornes are the same situation as the Merenguys and Reapers. Remember that now.) "Are you talking about the floating skull?" Pit asked. "Yes," Palutena responded." The slightest touch from one of those will annihilate you." "That sounds painful," Pit exclaimed. "Not to mention totally unfair!" (A/N: I agree with Pit on that one. Those things are the most annoying in the game and I find their gimmick rather OP in my opinion.) "Fair or not, just stay away from it," Palutena warned. "Try breaking nearby rocks to find a way out." Pit did so, while also avoiding poisonous puddles, and found a Jump Pad to make it out of there. He barely avoided the swinging blade after before he got out. While moving foward, he came across a Grind Rail and hopped on it. "Whoa-ho-ho!" he exclaimed. "Nice!" "That's a Grind Rail," explained Palutena. "It beats walking, huh? You can rid it right into the courtyard." Pit hopped off the Grind Rail and landed in the courtyard, just in time for more enemies to appear. "No one else can use or even see grind rails," said Palutena. "Consider them another special gift from me to you." "Thanks, Lady Palutena!" Pit replied. "I really appreciate all you do for me. Though I'd appreciate it even MORE if the grind rail went straight to the boss!" "Unfortunately, that's not possible." said Palutena. "But—" Pit started. "Nope, not possible," Palutena interrupted. Pit decided not to say anything else and continue with his fight against the the Underworld monsters. Once he was done, he continued onwards. Along the way, he saw someone who seemed to traumatized him in the past. "Not this guy!" he yelled. "An Eggplant Wizard!" Palutena mentioned. "But I don't want to be an eggplant again!" Pit cried. "Way back when, you had to visit a nurse to get fixed up, remember?" asked Palutena. "I was there so much, they named the place after me: hosPITal," Pit answered jokily. "Get it?" (A/N: Dude, you just trolled yourself.) Palutena was silent after hearing that. "It's funny," Pit continued. "It's OK to laugh." "No, it's really not," said Palutena. "Anyway, there aren't any hospitals in this fanfic story." (A/N: Okay. Let me explain something here. The game had a lot of fourth wall breakings and I mean A LOT. There is only one character who HATES that in this story. You'll find out soon enough.) "WHAT?!" Pit exclaimed in shock. "But what am I gonna do?!" "Calm down, Pit," said Palutena. "I can help you with this, too. If you're turned into an eggplant, my powers will transform you back. After a while." "Thanks, Lady Palutena!" Pit replied. Just then, he came across a room with swinging blades. "Those blades look like they could really put a hurt on someone," he said. "Be careful not to fall," said Palutena. Unfortunately, he accidentally touched on of the blades and fell into a ditch with an enemy that's trapped in chains. "Oof!" he grunted after landing. "Don't panic, Pit, but there's a Clubberskull nearby," Palutena warned. "It's trapped for now, so I suggest leaving it alone. It's one dangerous enemy." Pit then decided to leave it alone and fell into another hole which contains a Zodiac Chamber. He entered it and picked up the Taurus Arm. After that, he exited and used the Jump Pad to get back from whence he came. He then tried to take down the enemies, but one of his shots hit the Clubberskull's chains. "The Clubberskull's loose!" yelled Palutena. "Get out of there!" Pit quickly ran as fast as he could until he reached a Jump Pad and bounced up to safety. He then proceeded onwards to complete his mission. Along the way, there were yet more enemies he still had to take down. He of course still took them out with no arm and proceeded onwards. "There are Reapers creeping around in there," explained Palutena. "They'll summon Reapettes if they see you, so be careful." Along the way, Pit decided to ask Palutena a question. "You know how a chicken takes three steps and then forgets?" he asked. "Forgets what?" Palutena questioned. "Uh..." Pit said since he couldn't say anything else to respond. "Pit?" Palutena asked again. "Forgets what?" "Uh..." Pit replied again. "Oh, right! OK, so you know how a chicken takes three steps and then forgets?" (A/N: While I was writing this random conversation down, I was laughing and facepalming at that. Pit didn't even answer the question correctly.) Pit then continued onwards and defeated more enemies along the way. Then he noticed yet another Grind Rail. He hopped on to proceed. "Nice, another Grind Rail," he said. "This one works a bit differently," Palutena explained." As you're riding it, shoot the targets on the walls. This will extend the rail to your destination." "That sounds easy enough," Pit replied. "Just keep in mind that you can try it as many times as you need to," Palutena added. Pit shot all of the targets and extended the Grind Rail to max. Then he took an elevator to a lower floor that contained two Got Springs. "Well, well," said Palutena. "It appears that this place is equipped with some Hot Springs." "Woo hoo!" cheered Pit. "I could use a little R and R right about now!" On the left is a regular Hot Spring where Pit relaxed in for a while. The other one is more evil and can poison him which also contained a Reaper. He decided to take a look. "There's something strange about this Hot Spring..." stated Palutena. "The steam seems a little...evil," Pit agreed. "Uuhh... That's probably not a good sign. I'll just keep moving." Before he left, he used the Smart Bomb he recently picked up to obliterate the Reaper that was in there easily. After that, he proceeded onwards. He continued to avoid guillotines along the way. "You're closing in on the force that's obscuring Pandora's location," Palutena pointed out. "Yeah, I figured the evil lightning wasn't just for show," said Pit. He then took out more Reapettes and entered inside the chamber.

In it, Pit saw a Reaper. But once it saw him, it transformed into its real form; the Great Reaper. "No way!" Pit gasped. "It's gigantic!" Palutena exclaimed. The battle begun with Pit attempting to take it down. "What IS that thing?" Pit asked in disbelief. "That Great Reaper must be the one who's hidden Pandora's Labyrinth of Deceit," explained Palutena. "This area is split into two levels, so just switch levels depending on how it attacks." "You say that like it's easy!" Pit fearfully chuckled. "That's because it IS easy!" replied Palutena. Just then, the Great Reaper attempted to annihilate Pit with his lasers. "Those aren't just flirty looks coming from the Great Reaper's eyes!" Palutena began. "Lemme guess—they're death rays?!" Pit cried in shock. "In a nutshell," Palutena continued. "Plus, if you get hit, it'll summon Reapettes. That Great Reaper has quite the evil eye." "How can you make puns at a time like this?!" Pit cried. "I guess I just don't SEE the problem with a little levity," joked Palutena. (A/N: That's not even a good timing for that.) "Ugh!" Pit groaned. "You're killing me here!" Soon Palutena found a way to weaken the Great Reaper. "I think I've found the Great Reaper's weak points," she explained. "They're its head and little toes." "Oh, yeah!" Pit yelled in determination. "Stubbing those guys hurts like crazy!" "But it's more effective to target the head," Palutena added. "The head is a weak spot for many enemies and...most living things." Pit listened to what his goddess told him and shot at the Great Reaper's head. The Great Reaper suddenly got light coming from his forehead has he collapsed. "Now!" ordered Palutena. "Finish it!" "But...how?" asked Pit. "The light coming from its head," Palutena explained. "Strike there!" "Gotcha!" Pit affirmed. He then fired a shot at the light to take the Great Reaper down and defeat him. "All done!" he yelled in triumphant. "Nice work, Pit!" said Palutena, proudly. The light from the Great Reaper continuously burst from his head and he fell to the ground, defeated. "You know what, Lady Palutena?" Pit asked, while walking away. "What's that, Pit?" Palutena questioned. "Even though I almost died, I've really enjoyed our time together," answered Pit. "Aw, you poor guy," replied Palutena. "You really need to make some friends." This made Pit scratch his head bashfully. "Now let's go find Pandora!" said his goddess, as he was whisked away in a light pillar.

Meanwhile, the figure noticed something and decided to tell Pandora about it. "You know, I have a feeling that Pit is going to arrive soon and free me from this wretched prison," he told her. "You may want to prepare yourself for the outcome of it." "Oh, you know I WILL do that," Pandora replied. "In fact I have a very special surprise for him." "And that may be?" the figure asked. "I'm going to make a clone of him once he gets here," Pandora answered. "Once the clone is ready, he'll be able to get rid of him forever." "I highly doubt the clone follow your orders, Pandora," the figure replied. "And besides, how else are you going to control it after they don't listen to you?" "You'll see later on," said Pandora. The figure said nothing and continued to wait for his escape. Once Pit helps him break free from that mirror, it will be the last straw for the Underworld Army he crossed. Chaos will ensue and nobody will stand in his way.
