Here is chapter seven of the alternate timeline. FYI there are going to be some similar dialogue and words to make the Evil Route almost the same, but there are going to be some changes here and there. You'll find out later soon enough. You already know the disclaimer, so enjoy!
Chapter 7: The Seafloor Palace + DLC: A God's Justice
Music playing: Solo Menu
Pit and Palutena were having breakfast in order to get ready for the mission. Pit was still feeling a little scared ever since Lucifer told him their past. But, he wasn't sure whether to trust him a bit more or not. I can't believe our parents died! he thought to himself. But who is this "Gaia" person he was talking about? I better ask him more questions if I get the chance. I just...I don't know if I should trust him... Palutena was staring to grow concern about her angel and walked up to him. "Is something wrong, Pit?" she asked. "You don't look so well." Pit snapped out of his thoughts and looked up at the Goddess of Light. "O-Oh! Sorry, Lady Palutena!" he apologized. "I must've been having a little distractions about something." Palutena wasn't sure if he was telling the truth, but she decided to got with it. Until... "Wait a minute. Where's the tape player you recently picked up back at that abandoned temple?" she asked. Pit was scared to tell her about it. He wanted to say that it was his brother that crushed it, but that would also lead him to serious consequences due to his warning. He decided to make up a lie. "I-I must've dropped it when you were taking me back here, Lady Palutena," he said. "I believe it might be broken after that." Palutena was still not sure about it. "I'm not sure about that," she said. "But I'm afraid there's no time to think about that. We have to get ready for the mission. Gather up your weapon so that you can move out!" "Aye aye, Lady Palutena!" Pit affirmed and rushed to the Arms Alter to pick his weapon for the mission. I have a feeling that something is wrong with Pit, Palutena thought. But I don't think I should force him to say something. I better give him more time.'

After breakfast, Pit rushed to the door with his Insight Staff equipped. "Duty calls!" he said. "And Pit answers!" He leaped through, flew into the sky, and began to take down more Underworld monsters. "We need to refocus our efforts on Medusa, so today's target is Tanatos, God of Death," Palutena explained. And we'll deal with Devil Pit later, she added in thought. "Tanatos?!" Pit exclaimed. "You mean THE Tanatos?! Wait... Who's Tanatos again?" Palutena began to explain about him by saying, "Back in the '80s, Tanatos took the form of a snake on Medusa's head. He's quite the chameleon, you see, and that was his 'look' back then." "Great fashion sense," said Pit. "But as God of Death, he must be a big deal in the Underworld Army." "He possesses a key to the Underworld, and he's leading Medusa's invasion of the sea," Palutena continued. "So I'll be fighting his forces in the sea?" Pit questioned. "How am I supposed to do that?" "Just use your gills," Palutena answered. "Tell me, Pit, how are you with branchial respiration?" "Oh, no worries," Pit replied. "I minored in branchial respiration." And then he just realized he he just heard. "WAIT, YOU'RE CRAZY!" he yelled. "OK, just hold your breath then," said Palutena. "For about two hours." "I SAID YOU'RE CRAZY!" Pit repeated in shock. He then continued to take down more Underworld enemies along the way, then he smelled something fresh. "Ahhh, I can smell the ocean," he said. We're heading to Tanatos' base, the Seafloor Palace," explained Palutena. "You were kidding about holding my breath, right?" Pit asked, worried. "Watch and learn, pupil," said Palutena. "Witness the true power of the Goddess of Light! Ready, set... Dum da da daaah!" And just like that, Palutena split the ocean in half to form a path for Pit to take. "Whoa ho ho ho hoooaaa!" he exclaimed in surprise. "You've outdone yourself, Lady Palutena!" "Next stop: the Seafloor Palace," Palutena said. While in the ocean, Pit continued to take down more Underworld enemies. "This is just one more bullet point on your already-impressive resume!" he complimented. "Heh heh!" giggled Palutena. "What can I say? I'm an overachiever." Just then, they heard an unknown voice. "Ho, now!" he said. "Just one second there, lassie!" "Huh?" Pit wondered. "Oh, heh heh..." Palutena giggled, nervously. "Lord Poseidon!" "Tsk, Tsk, Palutena," Poseidon said, who was not amused of her fun. "Lies don't become a lady." "I'm sorry," Palutena apologized. "But can't a goddess have a little fun?" Pit then decided to question something. "So that sea-parting business was..?" he started. "'Twas obviously my doing, silly boy," Poseidon answered. Turns out that Poseidon was the one that opened the sea, not Palutena. Said goddess decided to confess what he was talking about. "To pull off an attack on the Seafloor Palace, I went to the sea god himself," she explained. "It all makes sense now," said Pit, now realizing the truth. "I wouldn't allow anyone else to part my ocean!" said Poseidon, seriously. "In fact, I've half a mind to put it back together!" This shocked Pit and told Poseidon, "No! Please don't do that!" Pit then continued onwards and took down more Underworld enemies that were standing in his way. "We're going deeper now," Palutena pointed out as Pit dove deeper into the sea. "Despite your mischievous ways, you should know you have my full support," said Poseidon. "Much obliged, Lord Poseidon," appreciated Palutena. "It was bad enough when the dark forces were contained in the Underworld," Poseidon continued. "But extending their reach to the sea and land is completely unacceptable. As the Goddess of Light, it falls on you to destroy them. I have faith that you will." "You have my word," replied Palutena. "Uh, and mine too!" Pit added. Just then, he came across a city that looked destroyed. "I guess this used to be a city?" he wondered. "Yes, but I sunk it long ago," Poseidon answered. "Sunk it?" Palutena asked. "That's a bit...extreme." "Humans consist of equal parts hubris, envy, and deceit," Poseidon continued. "Sometimes one has to put them in their place." Along the way after exiting the sunken city, Pit noticed some coral. "This coral is sooo beautiful!" he said, amazed. "True, but don't forget the old saying that every coral has its thorn," Palutena warned. "I'm pretty sure you're thinking of roses," Pit corrected. "And I'M pretty sure I'm thinking of coral," Palutena replied. After destroying the coral, Pit collected four more Recovery Orbs and proceeded to take out more Underworld enemies. Then he was getting closer to his destination. "We've arrived at the ocean floor," Palutena pointed out. "Only a little longer until we reach the palace! From there, we'll defeat Tanatos and take his key to the Underworld." Pit managed to take down a lot more enemies and then he spotted the palace. "Look!" said Palutena. "So that's the Seafloor Palace," said Pit. "I thought it'd be covered in barnacles and kelp, but it's actually very nice." "I'll be closing up the sea now," Poseidon mentioned. "It should wipe out any Underworld stragglers." But both Pit and Palutena don't want him to do that, yet. "Just give us one more moment," replied the Goddess of Light. "Please!" begged the angel. "I'm not wearing a life vest!" He then flew into the Seafloor Palace as fast as he could.

The angel entered the palace just in time before the sea closed. "The sea is closed now," Palutena pointed out. "My work here is finished," said Poseidon. "Good luck, you two!" "Thanks for your help!" Pit replied and then he decided to eat the food that appeared. Then, he heard another voice. "Oh, goody—guests!" he giggled. "Protecting an impregnable fortress can get awfully lonely." "Is that you, Tanatos?" Palutena wondered. "Actually, I go by Thanatos now," the God of Death responded. "The extra H is for hamazing." Pit is utterly confused if the God of Death really is him. "...Have we met before?" he asked. "I'm wounded, truly I am." replied Thanatos. "I know it's been awhile, but surely you haven't forgotten your old foe?" "Sorry..." Pit apologized. "There are just so many foes and only one of me." "You know we've crushed Medusa's other commanders, Thanatos," said Palutena. "Just give us the key to the Underworld, and we won't be forced to harm you." But Thanatos wasn't going to make it easy for them. "Hoo hoo hoo!" he giggled. "Impatient as always, I see! But since you've come all this way... Wouldn't you like to stay and catch up for a bit? Oh, pretty please?" "So you're not going to give up the key," said Palutena. "No need to get all huffy now," replied Thanatos. "I'll have you know that I much prefer honey to vinegar. And I prefer witty repartee to any condiment!" "This is getting nowhere," said Pit. "Our goal here is to track down Medusa, right?" "Yes," answered Palutena. "Thanatos is basically Medusa's right-hand man. That's why he has the only key to the Underworld." "I have no such thing!" Thanatos lied. "None whatsoever! Honestly. HONESTLY." "How did THIS guy get to be Medusa's second in command?" Pit asked, clearly ignoring Thanatos. "Beats me," answered Palutena. "Seniority?" "Helloooo?" Thanatos called. "It's rude to exclude!" "OK, if Thanatos won't give up the key, we'll have to take it from him." said Pit, still ignoring Thanatos. "The longer we wait, the more we have to lose," replied Palutena. "We need to strike soon. We only have a little way to go, so buckle down." "I'm buckled and ready!" said Pit, determined. "Yoo hoo!" Thanatos called out one more time. "Can you hear me? I'd like to be a part of this conversation please!" "Shut it already!" shouted Pit. "Me?" Thanatos countered. "But you've been talking this whole fanfic story!" Pit then unlocked and entered a Level 9 Intensity Gate where he was in a room with shallow water. "It seems like there's an electric current running through the water here," Palutena explained. "Oh, my," said Thanatos. "An excess of frizowatts must have overloaded the dooziestat." "Riiiight," Pit said, unconcerned. "Hurry over the water when the current stops, Pit," Palutena instructed. Pit managed to do so, defeated more enemies, and collected more loot and food. He then continued onwards to took down more enemies. Then he noticed three more Grind Rails. "The Grind Rails run parallel with each other, so you can switch between them," explained Palutena. "Stay focused on what's coming up!" He managed to switch out different Grind Rails in order not to fall down and took out a lot more Underworld enemies along the way. He then took a lift and was confused about something. "Weren't we here already?" he asked. "Yes, but there's good news!" answered Palutena. "A new path has appeared. Follow it to move forward." Pit took out more enemies and entered the next room. Unfortunately, the room appeared to have an icy floor and it was slippery. "Whoa!" he gasped. "It's slippery!" "Hoo hoo!" giggled Thanatos. "Isn't skating just delightful?" "I wish MY domain had a skating rink," said Palutena. "Yeah, it's really...great," stuttered Pit. After taking down more enemies, Pit entered an elevator to go up. "An elevator!" he said. "Well, that's convenient." "Going up," said Palutena. She then decided to be like an actual elevator annunciator. "Now approaching...the second floor," she said. Pit wasn't all that amused. "This play-by-play really isn't necessary," he said. Then it was Thanatos' turn to be one. "Now approaching...the third floor," he said. The angel and goddess became silent after hearing that. "Are you two ignoring me?" asked Thanatos. Pit then came out of the elevator and ate more food. He proceeded onwards and took out more Underworld enemies. He then fell into a ditch where an enemy was waiting for him. "Watch out for that Pluton," warned Palutena. "If it steals items from you, defeat it and take them back." Luckily, Pit managed to take it down before it could steal anything from him and ate more food that was in the ditch. He then used a Jump Pad to bounce him back up. Then he saw more Treasure Chests, but they were actually traps. One of them was a Mimicutie. It revealed its disguise and tried to take down its foe with its big kicks. Luckily, Pit managed to take it down before it can become a sever problem. He then ran towards another chest, but it was instead a trap door. "Gah!" he yelled. "Just your run-of-the-mill trap door," said Palutena. "Shake it off and keep moving." Pit then continued to take down more enemies and proceeded onwards. Just then, he entered a room with an enemy that has an ability like a vacuum. "See that mollusk-like enemy?" asked Palutena. "It's called a Vakloom." "So what's its deal?" replied Pit. "It absorbs the energy of ranged shots and then fires it back at you as a laser,: Palutena explained. "Until it fires at you, though, it remains protected by an armored shell." "Well if it's hungry for shots, the only thing to do is shoot it," said Pit. "I'll get it out of that shell any way I have to!" After he defeated that and other enemies, he hopped onto a moving platform. "What's this?" he asked. "Looks like a moving platform," explained Palutena. "Stay on it." Then Thanatos decided to tell the angel and goddess something. "Let me jazz things up for you a smidge," he said. "We do have to keep things interesting! Hoo hoo hoo!" Pit still made sure to stay on the platform while avoiding and taking down more enemies. "Keep on trooping, little trooper!" said Thanatos. "I'm curious about something, Thanatos," wondered Palutena. "Yes?" asked Thanatos. "You are the God of Death, are you not?" Palutena started. "And if the Underworld is the land of the dead, why don't you outrank Medusa?" "I'm not really interested in climbing the corporate ladder," answered Thanatos, though he was avoiding the question. "You wouldn't believe the amount of overtime you have to put in. Plus, that sort of strict hierarchy isn't the Underworld style." "You're avoiding my question," replied Palutena, unconcerned. "What was that?" asked Thanatos. "You seem to be cutting out! La la laaaaa la! I can't heeeear you!" "It's hard to get a good read on him..." said Pit. "I can't tell if he's weird or just dim." "A-wa-wa-wa-wa-wa-wa." Thanatos babbled. Pit then continued onward and was also closer to Thanatos. "Thanatos should be in the next room over," Palutena pointed out. "Oh, goody!" said Pit, doing a "Thanatos impression." "Then do let us get to the fisticuffing." After taking down all of the enemies, Pit drank another Drink of the Gods and entered the boss room to find Thanatos waiting for him.

Thanatos slowly started to stand up. "Oooah!" he groaned. "I must have dozed off there." And then he stretched to get him worked up. "Hooah." he continued. "Waiting around is such exhausting work!" "Heroes always arrive late on the scene!" Pit replied and did a battle stance to begin the battle. "Thanatos is a skilled chameleon," Palutena explained. "Don't be surprised if he changes into a spider or scorpion or cockroach or tick... Or a moth or lizard or leech or tapeworm or centipede or bat or snake or...cat." "But a cat...would be kind of cute, right?" asked Pit. "I'm tempted to reach for my book of snappy comebacks, but..." Thanatos started. Maybe I should just show you? And a one, and a two... And a ONE, TWO, THREEE!" He then began transforming into one of his forms. (A/N: Once again, I'm going to give out all of Thanatos' forms.) He started by transforming into an urn. "I'm just going to catch a few z's here," he said. "By the way, your attacks are useless." "There must be some way to hurt him," said Palutena. "Why don't you try hitting those skulls back at him?" Pit did so and managed to take Thanatos out of the urn. The urn shattered to pieces after so many hits. Then Thanatos transformed into a bat. "Keee keee!" he screeched. "That's not even what a bat sounds like!" Pit yelled. "Woop woop woop woop woop!" Thanatos yelled out. "And neither is that!" shouted Pit, annoyed. "This is getting really annoying really fast!" Pit wasted no time and proceeded to take down Thanatos. By the time Thanatos lost against him in that form, he then transformed into a sword. "Slicety slice!" he sang. "Dicety dice! Stabbity stab stab stab stab!" "No need to sound so gleeful!" replied Pit, unamused. "Maybe you can get the sword to hit the spears when they're in the ground," explained Palutena. Pit did so and managed to deal damage on Thanatos. Since Thanatos took too much damage in that form, he decided to transform into a nestling doll. "What's this?!" Pit asked in shock. "It looks like he turned into a doll," said Palutena. Then the doll opened up to reveal a smaller doll of him. "There's something inside of the doll!" Pit exclaimed. "Wait..." wondered Palutena. "Inside Thanatos...is a mini Thanatos? I wonder if they sell these in the gift shop." Soon enough, all of the dolls opened up to reveal a smaller on each time until Thanatos came out of the last one. "Ah ha!" Pit shouted. "There he is!" He then proceeded to take him down, until Thanatos decided to transform into a giant foot. "A foot?" Pit exclaimed. "Really, how much harm could—" Palutena began. "Ever heard of athlete's foot?!" Thanatos interrupted. Thanatos tried to stomp on Pit with the foot transformation, but Pit wasted no time and managed to take Thanatos down. Thanatos returned back to normal and Pit took him out with endless shots and melee attacks. "Crushing victory!" he yelled in triumphant. "Crushing defeat!" Thanatos sighed in defeat. He then spun in place and disappeared. "Fareweeeeell!" he cried. After his defeat, he dropped some kind of gem. "Pick up that gem, Pit," said Palutena. "This is our key to the Underworld." Pit picked it up and began to observe it. "And I just have...to hold it?" he asked. "More or less," answered Palutena. "But first, we have to get you geared up for the final battle." She then opened up a light pillar and whisked Pit back.

A few moments later, Lucifer arrived at the boss room and noticed that his brother is gone, along with one of his enemies. "Looks like Icarus took town the so-called 'God of Death,' Thanatos," he said. "Good riddance, I say. Serves him right for capturing me into that cursed mirror! But that's not why I'm here. Time to pay a visit to the God of the Sea himself." Lucifer then approached the stairs on the throne that appeared to have a hidden door. He was about to open the door, but suddenly, it opened up forcefully to push him back. "What the fuck?!" he yelled. "Who dares to push back the mighty Devil?" As on queue, Poseidon came out of the hidden room to face against Lucifer. "You!" he boomed. "Ah, Lord Poseidon," said Lucifer. "It's quite and honor to see you. For the last time, because I'm here to collect your soul." "I saw what you did to those humans!" Poseidon continued. "Your actions have become a severe problem to the celestial balance and you must be stopped!" "I couldn't care less about the so-called 'celestial balance!'" Lucifer replied. "In fact, I only care about death, doom, and destruction with the help of my brother. But in order for us to complete that master plan, I'm going to need your soul." "You killed my brother, Zeus, you monster! You're even worse than the Underworld army!" Poseidon yelled out. "For that, it is my duty to avenge my brother by defeating you once and for all. Prepare to face justice for the crimes you committed, Lucifer!" "I'll be glad to kill you in our anticlimactic duel, Poseidon!" Lucifer shouted as he summoned his Three Sacred Treasures to begin the battle.
Music stops and switches to: Boss Fight 2
Poseidon started the battle by sending out giant strong tidal waves at Lucifer to deal massive damage, only for the Devil to fly and dodge it quickly. "What the?" Poseidon gasped. "You cannot underestimate me and my power, Poseidon!" said Lucifer. "I have my Three Sacred Treasures with me to kill you. Try dodging THIS!" He then charged at Poseidon with his Sword of Fire and slashed at him. This gave the God of the Sea a ton of damage. "I say! You are indeed strong!" said Poseidon. "But that doesn't mean I'm going easy on you! You will pay for killing my brother and his innocent family!" "Hey! I had to do it because they deserve pain like I suffered throughout my afterlife!" Lucifer replied. "You'll be seeing Zeus soon enough. I promise you that." "And just what do you mean by that?" Poseidon questioned. "I recently found your brother's last remains and killed him," Lucifer explained. "After that, I stole his soul and took it to the Void. It is one of the two souls I need to collect for this mission. All I need now is yours, and then we'll be getting closer to complete our master plan." "I will not let you do that!" Poseidon boomed. "TAKE THIS!" Suddenly, giant water pillars shot from below the arena to deal massive damage on Lucifer. One of them came out of a wall and went straight towards the Devil, but was blocked by his Flaming Shield. "HHRRRAAAAHHH!" he yelled as he pushed the water pillar back at Poseidon. "Argh! How can you do that?!" he yelled. "My powerful shield can counter ANY attack you try to hurt me," said Lucifer. "You will burn to a crisp and your water abilities are nothing compared to my fire! Sure, water can douse the flames, but what makes me stronger is my darkness! Face the Dark Abyss, Poseidon!" He then flew up and spun around the God of the Sea to make him dizzy. "W-What are you doing?!" he yelled. "Stop t-toying with me!" "I'm just getting started with my final attack on you!" said Lucifer. "With my Wings of Redness, it's time for you to say 'nighty night!~'" Suddenly, he slashed, stabbed, and sliced Poseidon in many ways and finished the fight with him the last one standing. "AAAAAAAHHHH!" Poseidon yelled in agony. "Now, go to your brother," said Lucifer. After the battle, Poseidon collapsed to the ground dead and his body disintegrated into nothing. All that was left was his soul. "Excellent. Now to take the soul and bring it to the ritual circle," Lucifer said and took the soul into his hands. Then he opened a portal and entered into the Void.

Meanwhile, Pit came back to Palutena's Temple. "Whew! What a day," he sighed. "Good work in defeating Thanatos, Pit," Palutena congratulated. "How about we take a break for the day? It would be best for us to rest and get ready for the final battle." "I agree, Lady Palutena," Pit agreed. "I'll be heading to my room." He then went to his room and collapsed on his bed. "Ah. Finally. Time to sleep for the rest of the day," he sighed. But before he was about to doze off, he suddenly noticed a portal opening up right next to him. "Huh?" he wondered. Just then, Lucifer came out of the portal and walked up to his brother. "Come with me, Icarus," he said. "I have something to tell you and its best for you to take off that laurel crown again." He then entered the same opened portal to wait for his brother. "Well... O-OK..." Pit stuttered as he took off his laurel crown, placed it on his bed, and walked into the portal.

The angel soon arrived into the Void where Lucifer was waiting. "Now that you're here, I would like to discuss some important matter with you in private," said the Devil. "What would that be, Lucifer?" Pit asked. "After you finished your mission, Icarus, I took drastic measures and killed Poseidon to take his soul," Lucifer explained. "I was the one responsible for killing his brother, Zeus. As you can tell, he was helping you during your very first adventure in saving your goddess from the hands of Medusa. I recently killed his last remains and took his soul as well." "WHAT?! Why would you do that?!" Pit exclaimed. "They're for a ritual we must perform, brother," Lucifer replied. "It requires sacrifices from different humans and deities that have their souls full of sin. Especially the most powerful ones. So far, we've only obtained a few of them, and there are a few missing for the ritual to become complete." "Why is that, Lucifer?" Pit asked. "Because most of the souls have already escaped from limbo," Lucifer answered. "I'll take care of that later, but for now you need to rest up to begin your next mission tomorrow. Which, by the way, mind elaborating what your mission will be?" "I'm going to face Medusa in the Underworld with the Three Sacred Treasures!" said Pit. "Oh... Sorry to burst your bubble, but I'm afraid you won't be able to get to the Underworld," said Lucifer. "What? What are you talking about?" Pit asked. "The thing is, I accidentally made a distraction to slow down the Underworld as much as possible," Lucifer explained. "In doing this, your Three Sacred Treasures were stolen by mistake from a few minions of mine. But it's the only way for me to enter my territory to put back MY Three Sacred Treasures in their place." "Mind telling me what your Three Sacred Treasures are then?" Pit asked. "I'm sorry, but I cannot tell you because they are classified as my 'Secret Murder Weapons,'" Lucifer replied. "Now then, why don't you head back to the temple? I need to stay here and make preparations for our plan. Make sure you pretend that you don't remember any of this." "Well if you say so, Lucifer," Pit reluctantly affirmed and left the Void from the same portal. "Perfect. Now to head over to my territory to safekeep my weaponry and possible gather up more souls for the ritual," said Lucifer as he also left to Void as well.

Looks like things are starting to heat up. Lucifer still has big plans for his reign of terror and collected two more souls for the ritual. With his brother helping him out, it looks like none of their enemies are going to stand a chance. But what will happen to the brothers in the future chapters? Well, stay tuned for chapter eight of the Evil Route, review, and have a great day!
