And now we're here for chapter thirteen of the Evil Route. Just to give you a heads up, there's going to be a bit of different dialogue than what you already witnessed in the Good Route of the story. Keep that in mind as you follow along with it. You already know the disclaimer, so sit back and enjoy!

Chapter 13: The Lunar Sanctum + DLC: Moonlight Retribution

Music playing: The Lunar Sanctum

Pit took off to the skies with the Viper Blade equipped. "Time to take down the Underworld army!" he exclaimed. (A/N: I know that he was supposed to sing his Victory Song, but since this is the Evil Route, he's a bit more serious than last time.) But as the angel took off into the sky, he noticed that there are still Forces of Nature enemies around. "Lady Palutena, how come we're still fighting the Forces of Nature?" he asked his goddess. "Shouldn't we be facing Hades right about now?" "Not quite," Palutena pointed out. "We still have to contend with her forces. Specifically, Arlon the Serene." "Oh, is he one of her commanders?" Pit asked. "Yes, and he has a weapon so lethal, it makes Reset Bombs seem like firecrackers," Palutena explained. "Arlon's base is close by. You see the moon?" Pit then saw the moon Palutena mentioned. "Yeah, it's really pretty tonight," he said. "And what about that?" Palutena asked. "Like I said, they're pretty," Pit responded before realizing something. "Wait a sec... There are two moons?!" "They're like eyes watching you," said Palutena. "Sheesh. That sounds a bit creepy," Pit said with a sigh. Suddenly, he saw the second moon split apart. "Whoa whoa whoa!" he exclaimed. "What kind of moon IS that?!" "THAT'S Arlon's Lunar Sanctum," explained Palutena. "Clearly, there's more to it than meets the eye." "Very cool!" Pit exclaimed. But then he saw a beam that fired at him and he barely dodged it. "And dangerous!" he added in fright. He then continued to fight more Forces of Nature troops and avoid the laser beams. "I take it back!" Pit exclaimed. "It's not cool at all!" "We're going in!" said Palutena as she guided Pit closer to the sanctum. The angel continued to fight and take down more and more Forces of Nature enemies while also dodging more laser beams. "I'm getting close!" he exclaimed. "I'll get you there," said Palutena. "Just focus on avoiding fire." Pit did so and received four more Recovery Orbs to replenish his health. He then took down more Forces of Nature enemies after avoiding those laser beams. "Those lasers are quite the security system," said Palutena. "You're telling me!" Pit replied. "With all THIS firepower, Arlon must be preparing for a massive attack," Palutena continued. Then, the goddess and angel heard another voice. "Why on earth would I be attacking?" he asked. "I'm far too busy...defending, my dear." "Huh?!" Pit wondered. Turns out, it was Commander Arlon the Serene. "You must be Commander Arlon," said Palutena. "Pleasure to make your acquaintance, Lady Palutena," replied Arlon. "And yours too, young master Pit. I have heard tales of your prowess from our Mistress Viridi." And I also remembered you back in the past, he added in thought. Back then before that war began...and I'm afraid it has started again. "Well, that's...something..." Pit responded. "She said I mustn't let your attacks spread chaos HERE of all places," Arlon explained further. "Before you cause a most unnatural harm, let us sit down for a chat." "I might consider it if you withdrew your forces..." Palutena responded. "...and banded with us to face the Underworld Army together." "Those decisions fall to the will of Mistress Viridi," Arlon explained. "Unfortunately, it's entirely out of my purview. I do hope you understand." That and I'm not sure if she could listen to any of us about HIM, he added in thought. Not to mention, I have a feeling that the angel might be working for that monster. Hmm... I was afraid you'd say that, Palutena thought. So much for trying... "As much as I would like to speak with you Arlon, I'm afraid we have so much work to do," said Pit. "In fact, if you intend to stand in our way, I've half a mind to kill you once I get to you!" "If you wish to do that, young master Pit, then let's see how well you can get through the Forces of Nature," said Arlon. "Oh I will get over there and slay them one by one!" Pit shouted in determination. Palutena was shocked to hear the angel say that. How come Pit is feeling so determined to defeat Arlon? she wondered in thought. Something doesn't seem right...and familiar... then continued to take down more enemies, until the sanctum's core turned to prepare to fire again. "Pit! Watch out!" Palutena warned. "Huh?" Pit wondered, and then immediately noticed the laser and swiftly dodged it. "Aaaaaugh!" he cried. "That attack was vicious!" said Palutena. "I see a corridor we can enter through. Hold on!" She then guided Pit to the side of the sanctum for safety, thought not by much, and Pit continued to take down more enemies. "It's not much safer in here!" he said. "As I mentioned earlier, the Lunar Sanctum is very heavily fortified," Palutena explained. "But a victory here could help us contain all of Viridi's army." "I'll take care of it somehow!" said Pit, determined to win. He then noticed something...off. "Huh... Their defenses are thinning out," he said. "I'm still detecting enemies, though, so be careful," warned Palutena. As on queue, ghostly-like enemies appeared out of nowhere to attack their foe. "Augh!" Pit exclaimed in shock. "Let me introduce you to the Flages, the covert-ops specialists for Viridi's army," Arlon explained. "Do they strike your fancy?" "Uh, NO!" Pit scowled. "Personally, I'm quite fond of them," said Arlon. "Right, 'cause I care SO much," Pit replied, sarcastically, even though Arlon didn't take note of that. "Your concern is noted," he said. "I WAS BEING SARCASTIC!" Pit yelled. "I don't care at all!" Not to mention, they look SO DISGUSTING! he added in thought and proceeded to take them down and avoid laser beams. Then Arlon spoke, "Oh, yes, I almost forgot." "Forgot what?" asked Palutena. "To close the gates!" Arlon replied. "And the gates...go...shut." Arlon closed the gates to slow Pit down, only for him to destroy the weak spots and go through them. "Yikes!" yelped the angel. "Cut it out!" "The Power of Flight is running out," Palutena warned. "We have to move! Find the breakable spots on the gates, and shoot through. You can also break through with melee attacks." Luckily, Pit broke through the gates successfully and was getting closer to reaching Arlon. "There's an entry point through a duct up ahead," Palutena pointed out "It's tight, so watch out!" She then sent Pit to the duct and he crashed through. "Hrrt?!" he yelped in pain.

Pit then skited to a halt and was amazed by the inside of the Lunar Sanctum. "Talk about ritzy!" he exclaimed. "It's like a whole other world," said Palutena, amazed as well. "A classier world." "I'm deeply flattered by your gracious compliments," said Arlon, blushing a bit. "Who knew the Lunar Sanctum would be so nice?" said Pit. "I could get used to a place like this!" Palutena agreed. "Perhaps you could," said Arlon. "But the Lunar Sanctum doesn't have room for any...MORE guests." That and Mistress Viridi would get suspicious about joining sides, because she might not listen to us, he added in thought. Not to mention that I must eliminate that angel from causing us more trouble. "Uh, it's not THAT nice," said Palutena. "I don't care how nice this place is!" exclaimed Pit. "It won't stop me from taking you down!" "I understand," replied Arlon. "You have no regard for other people's property." Although I do wish we could chat and talk about the return of the War of Chaos, he added in thought. I can't believe it's happening again just like...last time. Suddenly, Pit noticed a green hologram of a Nutski that was set up by Arlon. "Are my eyes playing tricks on me?" he asked. "Arlon seems to have a penchant for visual trickery," said Palutena. "It's just a little something I whipped up to whet your appetite," Arlon responded. "This is so annoying," Pit exclaimed in frustration. "Lady Palutena. Help me out here." "Deploying the Palutena Super Sensor..." said Palutena. "I didn't know you had a super sensor!" said Pit."Hee hee. I don't," giggled the goddess. "You know I like to make stuff up." I can't believe you're messing with me at a time like this!" Pit exclaimed again. "Don't fret," Palutena replied. You can use the green arrows to guide your way." "Now how did you manage to place those here?" Arlon asked. "Ooh, it seems you've infiltrated the Lunar Sanctum's control core, Palutena. That leaves me relatively defenseless. I'd best rectify that posthaste. If you'll excuse me, I must go gird my loins for your arrival." "TMI! Nobody wants to hear about your loins!" Pit yelled in disgust as soon as Arlon left for a while. He then hopped on the Grind Rail and took down more enemies. He also flipped some switches to change the color of the Grind Rail in order to not fall off. Once he hopped out of it, he continued onwards. He took down a lot more enemies and hopped on another Grind Rail. He made sure to hop on a different one in order to avoid falling down and flip the switches to avoid the same problem, while also taking down more enemies and ignoring the holograms. He then hopped off the Grind Rail and entered another room where he was ambushed by more enemies. He took them all down, while ignoring more holograms, and proceeded onwards. He then entered a room with a giant mirror. "Now what do I do?" he asked. "Look carefully at the mirror's image," Palutena explained. "You'll notice some inconsistency." Pit did as he was told and carefully navigated through the correct path in order not to fall down. He then entered the Lunar Sanctum Control Center where he noticed his doppelganger, Dark Pit, waiting for him. "Dark Icarus!" exclaimed the light angel. "Never heard you say that to me before," replied the dark angel as the two of them prepared themselves to fight.

"Arlon, did you call Pittoo here?" Palutena asked while the light and dark angels fight each other. "I most certainly did," Arlon replied. "He's not usually one to follow orders," Palutena explained. "How did you persuade him?" "It was quite simple, actually. Just the mention of young master Pit's presence..." Arlon explained. "...was enough to send his twin running here." "Pittoo just isn't happy unless he's fighting someone," said Palutena, sadly. And in this case, it would be his original self, she added in thought. But I wonder what he would think about Devil Pit if he encountered him again. Speaking of which, I don't sense his presence anywhere. Where could he be? Not to mention, why did Pit call him another name? "You say that like it's a bad thing!" said Dark Pit. "You shut up!" shouted the original counterpart. During the fight, the Control Center remained in place and can fire explosive shots at either angel. This time, the dark angel was not going down that easily. He continued to fire charged shots at Pit when he's far away, and attacked him with a melee combo when he's close. But Pit wasn't going down that way and managed to dodge and block those attacks. Then the light angel took down his dark doppelganger. "Now what, fool!" he taunted. "Just wait till next time!" said Dark Pit as he flew away. But Pit was not done just yet. There was still the Lunar Sanctum Control Center that must be destroyed. "Destroy the Lunar Sanctum Control Center," said Palutena. Pit did so by using charged shots and continued shooting attacks to blow it up. "The Control Center is toast!" he exclaimed, then drank another Drink of the Gods after that tough fight, and continued onwards up on a lift.

Pit then arrived at a path where most of the panels are missing. "Where are we?" he wondered. He proceeded to take down more enemies and nearly fell over an empty panel. "Whoa!" he exclaimed as barely got back up. "It's a bit daunting, I agree," said Palutena. Pit then carefully continued onwards and took down more enemies along the way, until... "Ha...chooo!" sneezed Palutena and a meteor suddenly crashed into the ground. "Augh!" Pit gasped in horror. "Are you trying to get me smooshed?" "Huh? That wasn't my doing," said Palutena, confused. "Goodness. So sorry," Arlon apologized. "I must have lost myself in the golden melody of her sneeze." "That's why you should cover your sneezes," said Pit. "I would never!" Palutena replied. "A strong sneeze is the sign of a strong spirit." That wasn't even funny, Pit grumbled in thought. After that, Pit defeated more enemies and continued onwards. He then entered through a door and arrived at a room with a night sky. "This is so cooool!" the angel exclaimed in amazement. "It's like the surface of the moon!" "Why was the Lunar Sanctum built anyway?" Palutena questioned. "That information is highly confidential," Arlon replied. "That only makes me more curious," Palutena continued. "Curious or not, I took an oath of silence, and I intend to honor it!" said Arlon. "Now, now, no need to get all bent out of shape," said Palutena. "After all, your name IS 'Arlon the Serene.'" Pit joined in. "I'm well aware of my name! But back to the topic at hand," Arlon continued. "I cannot tell you the reasons WHY this sanctum was built. But I can say that it runs on my powers. Without me, it's just a husk, an empty shell, an orbiting house of cards." "Ooh, that sounds fancy," said Pit, impressed. "I don't think we're getting the whole story here..." said Palutena, unconvinced. "You're in no position to demand explanations," said Arlon. "I am beholden only to Mistress Viridi, and you two are thorns in her side." But I do wish there was a way I could tell her about this war we're currently in, he added in thought. If only HE didn't do anything to my lady all those years ago... And now, I must eliminate the angel who is working with the monster who ruined my after life! "You've made your allegiances quite clear," Palutena replied. Although with you guys joining us, it would be much better, she added in thought. With you joined hands, we would be able to win this war against the Underworld, and hopefully we could figure out what is going on with Pit. "Then enough talk!" exclaimed Pit. "Let's get back to fighting!" Pit then used an Exo Tank to take down more enemies and move forward. After he no longer needed the Exo Tank, he continued onwards and used an elevator which looked like the shape of a moon. "So, this is an elevator?" Pit asked. "That seems to be the case," Palutena responded. After he got out of the elevator, he continued to take down more enemies and continued onwards. He then entered a room with a rotating platform that has mines and two Clobblers. "Don't just shoot wildly, Pit," warned Palutena. "You do NOT want to get those Clobblers mad. Try luring each one into a mine." "Good idea!" Pit agreed. "Pit's lucky to have such an excellent guide," Arlon complimented. "Though we're on opposing sides, I must commend your work, Palutena." "Thanks. It's just part of my job," Palutena replied. "Besides, Pit's the one doing all the heavy lifting. Which is especially impressive for someone so small." Shut up... Pit grumbled in thought. After defeating them, he continued onwards and took down a lot more enemies along the way until he was getting closer to Arlon. "Arlon's quarters are directly ahead," Palutena pointed out. "Good luck." Pit then drank another Drink of the Gods and entered the room.

There Pit saw Arlon waiting for him and didn't dare to say anything. "I've been expecting you, Pit," said Arlon. "Please remove that laurel crown of yours." Pit did as he was told by taking off his laurel crown and tossing it aside. "Pit? Pit! Why can't I contact you again?!" Palutena exclaimed. "Good. Lady Palutena won't listen to you," said Arlon. "Not even me because I blocked her from listening to me." "What is it you want from me, Arlon?" Pit asked. "You're working with the monster who killed my Lady Gaia!" Arlon yelled. "I am very angry at you for your actions! How could an angel like you follow orders with that Devil?!" "Hey! I'm only doing what's right for my family!" Pit replied. "My brother is the only family I had left ever since my parents died by Gaia!" "This is madness!" Arlon continued. "Lady Gaia was the First Goddess of Nature and Viridi's mother who was a kind person! Your brother killed her in cold blood ruthlessly without showing any justice!" "Shut up! Lucifer told me that she was the one responsible for murdering our parents!" Pit shouted. "He brought justice to our family rights many years ago! That was all in the past and I believe you're not letting it go!" "Of course I'm not!" said Arlon. "Do you have any idea how sad I felt when your monstrous brother murdered my Lady?!" "NO! And I don't want to hear any other excuses from you!" said Pit. "If you're going to stand in our way, then I shall show no mercy! Prepare to be killed, Arlon the Serene!" "Very well! Have at you, Pit! Show me what you got!" said Arlon as he and Pit readied themselves to begin the fight.

Arlon started the fight by firing energy blasts that were slow to catch his opponent. Pit dodged it and proceeded to attack Arlon with a melee combo. "Not bad, Pit!" said the Serene. "But I will not be bested by a monster like you!" Suddenly, he covered the battle arena in darkness. "I can't see!" Pit exclaimed in shock. "Do not panic, Icarus," said Lucifer. "I'll be helping you out on this fight, since Palutena cannot communicate with you." "Lucifer!" Pit gasped. "Watch where Arlon's attacks are coming from and then strike him down," Lucifer explained. "Once he's down, make sure you do whatever it takes to have him dead!" Luckily, Pit saw where Arlon's attacks were and he attacked him back. "I say!" Arlon exclaimed. "Excellent. Now take him down with everything you got!" said Lucifer, smiling sinisterly. Arlon then continued to attack Pit with rings that deal damage and come back like boomerangs. Pit dodged them and continued to attack Arlon. "For an angel, you know how to fight, Pit," said Arlon. "But it's time to reveal the true extent of my power!" Arlon then covered the area in darkness again, but this time, it was much harder to see him and can only be found when he attacks again. Luckily, Pit dodged the attacks and found Arlon again. "Listen, Icarus," said Lucifer. "Arlon is our next target for our ritual. His soul is powerful enough for our master plan. Once we kill all of our enemies, the ritual will be complete and the demons will be released from their prison. Kill Arlon and leave no evidence behind!" Pit nodded and continued his fight against Arlon. He then took him down after dealing loads of melee attacks at his foe. "Blast!" Arlon groaned in defeat. "He's down. Now to finish him off!" said Lucifer.

Arlon collapsed to the ground and began to cough out blood from his mouth. "W-Why are you *cough* d-doing this...?" he coughed. "You're w-working with *cough* a monster w-who *cough* ruined our l-lives...!" "I'm doing this for my brother and to avenge my parents who were ruthlessly murdered by the Forces of Nature!" Pit replied. "You don't deserve to live after what Lucifer told me about you! Your so-called 'Lady Gaia' did this to us. Now that she's gone, all that are left are you and Gaia's daughter!" Suddenly, a portal opened up and Lucifer came out of it. "Excellent work in defeating Arlon, Icarus," he congratulated. "Now that he's weak, this is your chance to finish him. You must kill him right now without any hesitation and take his soul afterwards." Pit nodded and slowly walked up to the dying Arlon. "Y-Young master! *cough* P-Please!" the commander coughed. "D-Don't *cough* do this to m-me...!" Pit only stared coldly at the dying commander and then stabbed him in the stomach with his weapon. His sanity has lowered drastically. "You don't deserve to live anymore!" he yelled. "NOT AFTER WHAT THAT MONSTER DID TO MY FAMILY!" He continued to stab Arlon furiously with his Viper Blade to cause a big poisonous attack in his organs. "Hehehehehe. You're doing quite well, Icarus," Lucifer chuckled. "This is so much fun to watch our victims getting tortured by our hands." It didn't take long for Pit to stop stabbing Arlon as he was nearing his demise. "*cough* *cough* I failed..." the commander coughed as more blood came out of his mouth. "D-Don't worry, Lady *cough* Gaia. I'll b-be there *cough* soon... I'm so s-sorry for *cough* e-everything..." After saying his final words, his body went entirely limp and he died. His body faded away into dust and all that was left has his soul. "Good job, Icarus. Now take the soul. We must head back into the Void and place it in the ritual circle," Lucifer ordered as he went back into the opened portal. Pit took the soul, picked up his laurel crown, but doesn't put it back on yet, and entered the portal as well to go to the Void.

The brothers soon arrived at the ritual circle. "Alright, Icarus. You know the drill," said Lucifer. "Place Arlon's soul in the ritual circle." Pit nodded, went up to the ritual circle, and placed Arlon's soul in its place. "Excellent. Our master plan is going very smoothly," Lucifer continued. "We're still missing a few more souls, but I have a feeling we'll be getting them soon enough." "So, what exactly should we do now, Lucifer?" Pit asked. "Right now I need you to go back to your room and rest up," Lucifer replied. "After all, you need a break after completing your mission. But before you go, there is something I need to inform you." "What is it?" Pit asked. "While you were heading to the Lunar Sanctum, I secretly set up some bombs around the premise," Lucifer explained. "I need to make sure that it's completely destroyed so that my pet will be released from its prison." "What is this 'pet' you're talking about?" Pit asked. "You'll find out soon enough," Lucifer replied and then pulled out a remote. He pushed the button on it to activate the bombs. "The bombs have been activated, Icarus. They will exploded in 10 minutes," he continued. "Now then, your next mission is to find another powerful entity and kill them while your at the War of Chaos again. Be on your way, brother. You're not needed here." "Understood, Lucifer," Pit affirmed as he entered a portal Lucifer opened and was back in Palutena's temple.

10 minutes later, Lucifer heard something exploding. "Excellent. The Lunar Sanctum blew up. Now to bring in my pet," he said and opened up another portal to let something in. Suddenly, an unknown creature came into the Void. "Ah, my little pet. You came at the right time," said Lucifer after noticing it. "Listen. Now that I rescued you from your prison, I need you to go on a mission. Your job is to eliminate different mortals and take their souls to devour, while me and Icarus continue with their distraction plan." The creature nodded and, even though it couldn't talk, it asked the Devil something if it could go right now. "Unfortunately, you can't go out on your mission just yet," Lucifer continued. "You must wait until the distraction is finished. After that, I'll call in reinforcements to give you more time." The creature nodded in accepting the mission and left the Void to wait. Lucifer then smiled a sinister smile. "Excellent. Everything is all according to plan," he chuckled. "Soon the universe will be destroyed, and nothing will stand in our way! HAHAHAHAHA!"

Meanwhile, Pit came out of his room after leaving the Void and then went to the living to find Palutena. He found her feeling a little scared at the moment. "Pit, something is very wrong here," she said. "What is it, Lady Palutena?" Pit asked. "I can't seem to sense Arlon's presence anymore," Palutena continued in fear. "I have a bad feeling that he might be dead. The same thing goes for Cragalanche. Who would do such a thing like that?" "I don't know, but I think it has to do with some kind of monster," said Pit. "But we can't worry about that right now. We still have to deal with the Forces of Nature before attacking the Underworld army, right?" "Yeah, you're right," said Palutena. "You can go back to your room and rest. I'll fill you in the details of our next mission tomorrow." "Not a problem, Lady Palutena!" Pit affirmed as he left the living room and back to his room to take a nice long-resting sleep. Palutena, however, was still pondering what she said to the angel. "I don't know if Pit is trustworthy now," she said to herself. "I have a feeling that something is clearly still wrong with him. I trusted him ever since the beginning of our first adventure 25 years ago. I must get to the bottom of this soon." She then left the living room and back to her room to sleep.

Meanwhile, Viridi was in the living room of her temple crying as she cover her face with her hands. "No! Arlon is dead!" she sobbed. "I wanted him to come back home, but now he's gone! He took care of me ever since I was a baby when I lost my mother! And now... NOW...!" She continued to cry as a fountain of tears poured out of her eyes. Then she heard footsteps coming into the living room and felt their arms wrap around her. "Mistress, I'll be getting to the bottom of this soon enough," said the voice of the person. "P-Phosphora, I don't know about this," Viridi told her. "What if y-you get killed like my two other c-commanders?" "Do not worry, my mistress," said Phosphora. "I'll be back here safe and sound with you. I have a feeling that there are monsters trying to take down all of our forces." "But how are we even going to know who were the ones responsible for this?" Viridi asked. "We don't even know who would do such madness like this!" "I have a hunch it might be this 'Pit' you told me about, Mistress," Phosphora replied. "I'll see this for myself in our next mission. Don't worry. I'll come back as soon as possible. I promise." Viridi slowly looked up at the Lightning Nymph and nodded. "Very well. You are now dismissed, Phosphora," she said. Phosphora nodded and left the temple while Viridi continued to cry over Arlon's death. "Arlon... I'll miss you so much...!" she sobbed.

Uh oh. Looks like things are starting to take a dark turn for all of the characters. Pit has now started to grow a lot more insane, Viridi lost another one of her mighty commanders, and Palutena is getting a lot more worried about her angel. Everything is going as Lucifer planned. What will happened to all of our heroes now that the villain is planning big surprises for them? Well, by the time I finished writing this down, I have something else planned for this winter month. I'll be writing that one down for all of you to enjoy and after I'm done with that, I'll be on my winter vacation to visit my grandmother in Mexico. But until then, stay tuned for chapter fourteen of the Evil Route, review, and have a great day!
