Chapter 15: Mysterious Invaders + DLC: Brothers in Disguise

Pit sluggishly and slowly moved to the door with the Bullet Blade equipped. "I'm...so sleepy..." he sighed as he fell though the door and was lifted up to the night sky by the Power of Flight. "Sorry to drag you out so early, but we've got an emergency," said Palutena. "We have a BIG problem. Bigger than all of us gods." Pit then saw floating islands attacking the Earth. "Huh?!" he exclaimed in shock. "What is THAT?!"

Multiple lasers came out of the islands and began tearing through the Earth. Pit couldn't believe his eyes. "It's...it's ransacking the earth!" he exclaimed. Suddenly, several enemies from the unknown army appeared out of nowhere and ambushed the angel. "Enemies incoming!" said Palutena. The enemies then shot at Pit with their mini lasers. "They're firing on me!" he exclaimed and then took them down quickly. "I'm not even sure what THEY are!" Palutena exclaimed. But while Pit was avoiding the enemies, he sense a familiar presence and decided to talk with him. "Lucifer, mind telling me why your army is attacking me?!" he boomed. "Keep quiet!" Lucifer shushed. "It's best for you to not know about this to your 'allies.' If they get suspicious about it, this will be all for nothing. Understand?" "O-Okay," Pit reluctantly affirmed and ended the conversation. He then took down more unknown enemies and was, in disguise, confused about what they were. "They're organized, but who's giving the orders?" asked Palutena. "Maybe they're a new unit of the Forces of Nature?" Pit wondered. But the leader herself stopped him from theorizing that. "Come on now. Do they look 'natural' to you?" Viridi questioned. "Vi—" Pit started but then he heard another voice. "Morning, do-gooders!" said the Underworld ruler. "Don't tell me you two are behind this!" Pit suspected. "Sadly, no, though I do applaud any and all violence directed at you," Hades replied. "Plus, you should know that I'd never work with Hades," Viridi replied as well. "In fact, I was about to destroy him when THEY suddenly appeared." "No, they saved HER at the last minute," Hades shrugged. "So you have no idea what they are?" asked Pit. "I'm sure know-it-all Palutena is just dying to illuminate us," said Hades. "Unfortunately, I don't know any more than you do," the Goddess of Light replied. "I can only tell you that they're not of this world." "You mean they're...invaders from space?!" Pit exclaimed. "They're not just invading. This swarm is harvesting whole sections of the earth!" Viridi shouted. "They're like bees taking pollen back to whatever hive they call home." "Not to quibble over details, but I think locusts are a more apt analogy," said Hades. "But whatever they are, they must be stopped. Earth is MY flower to plunder, not theirs!" "Do I have to do everything around here?" Viridi complained and then ordered her troops. "Forces of Nature, drop the hammer!" "I guess we Underworlders will get in the mix, too," said Hades. "Shoot anything that moves!" "Still can't get along, I see," said Pit, annoyed. "Just do what you can, and try to stay out of the thick of things," said Palutena. Pit then continued onwards while taking down more robotic enemies. He then approached above the floating islands. "I've never seen anything like this!" he exclaimed. "These things are tough," said Viridi. "But what are they?" asked Palutena, but before the others could comprehend what their facing against, the enemies were suddenly blasted away by somebody else. The one responsible revealed himself by continuously taking down the enemies. "HAHAHAHAHA!" he laughed. "Huh?!" Pit exclaimed. "Villains are no match for Pyrrhon!" the figure replied. "Pyrrhon? The sun god Pyrrhon?" Palutena asked in shock. "The one and only!" Pyrrhon replied. "This guy is the sun god?" Pit questioned. "Well, that's what he calls himself anyway," Viridi replied. "Ah! So you're all together?!" Pyrrhon exclaimed "Good! Pyrrhon loves a party!" "Listen, do you know anything about these enemies?" Palutena asked the Sun God. "Of course!" Pyrrhon replied. He then explained, "They're the Aurum, and THIS passel of floating islands is just one of their bases." "Just ONE of their bases?! How much more hell DO they plan to raise?" Hades asked in shock. "Let me drop a little knowledge on you!" Pyrrhon continued. "Oh, goody," said Viridi in her usual sassy tone. "It's all in the Book of Divine Prophecy, chapter 84, section 3," Pyrrhon explained further. "'Beckoned by destruction and corruption, the Aurum are born from and return to nothing. They travel across the galaxy to swallow up the heavens, land, and seas.'" "I don't remember that passage," Viridi replied, confused. "I'll break it down for you, Godlings," said Pyrrhon. "The Aurum are gonna eat the entire Earth! But stow your fear. Pyrrhon has a delivery, and the return address is 'justice.'" "We can trust this 'Pyrrhon' guy, right?" asked Pit. "Um..." Palutena wondered for a moment before Viridi interrupted her thoughts. "You know things are dire if THAT'S the guy we're listening to!" she said. "Fear the wrath of my pyroblasters, space weirdos!" Pyrrhon laughed as he took them down. "HAHAHAHAHA! Kablooey! Kablammy!" "Yes...let's let Pyrrhon take care of this," Palutena agreed. "We'll take the other side of the islands!" "Good plan!" Pit agreed as Palutena then flew him into an opening from within the islands. "Keep your wits about you, brother," said Lucifer. "Make sure you don't let the others get suspicious." "Already ahead of you, Lucifer," Pit replied. He then took them down and arrived beneath the islands where he saw chunks of Earth. "This is out of control!" he exclaimed. "The Aurum are blowing up the Earth and then taking the pieces for themselves!" exclaimed Viridi. "Would explain why they're 'eating the Earth' as Pyrrhon mentioned earlier," said Pit. "Viridi, it was you and Hades who lured the Aurum to our world," said Palutena. "What?! That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard!" Viridi shouted in disbelief. Especially since all of my commanders were killed by somebody else! she continued in thought. "Well, Pyrrhon said they're 'beckoned by destruction and corruption,'" Palutena explained. "They were likely drawn here by the War of Chaos between the Underworld and Nature." But I still can't seem to figure out what happened to all of Viridi's commanders, she added in thought. "Convenient how you've forgotten YOUR little tiff with the Underworld," Viridi countered. "Convenient how YOU'VE forgotten a massive Reset Bomb visible from space," Pit fought back. "You! Zip it! The Aurum are the aggressors here! We're the victims!" Viridi explained. "You're absolutely right," Palutena agreed. "Like it or not, we're on the same side now." I just hope that nothing gets any worse ever since the deaths of Cragalanche, Arlon, and Phosphora, she added in thought. Pit then took down more enemies before reaching to the center of the islands. "We're heading to the center of the Aurum Islands," Palutena pointed out. "That tower is the key to stopping all this devastation. Prepare for land battle." "OK!" Pit affirmed as he flew down to the islands. "Remember the plan..." Lucifer pointed out.

Pit then landed into the islands and ate the food. After that, he continued onwards. "Is this...the future?" he wondered. "The Aurum must have stolen materials from all over to build this place," said Viridi. "I wonder how many other planets were harvested to make it," said Palutena. "For being patched together, everything seems pretty structured," said Pit. "If the Aurum are like bees, that's no surprise. Bees are orderly colonies," said Palutena. "Likewise, the Aurum seem to act as one. And I doubt these drones have any sense of free will." "There's all this activity here, but no actual life. It's pretty creepy!" said Pit. "But that doesn't change the fact that I must eliminate them from destroying our world!" "Well, SOMEONE is becoming persistent," said Viridi. "I HAVE my own ways to fight, thank you very much!" Pit replied. "Oh goodness. This is not going to go well, is it?" said Hades. Pit decided to stop talking and proceed to take down more Aurum troops. Some of the paths were blocked so Pit made sure to lower them by destroying the glowing center of it to move on. "Taking out targets like that is the key to moving past certain obstacles," Palutena explained. "Well obviously," said Pit. "After all, there is no way I'm going to be defeated by a group of robotic monsters!" "Such positive attitude," said Viridi. "Although I do wish I could say the same thing..." Pit then continued onwards and took down more enemies. He then entered a room where he saw two unusual Aurum enemies sent by Devil Pit. "Huh. Are those enemies...waving at me?" he wondered. "They're not saying hello, if that's what you're asking," Viridi replied. "Those Aurum enemies are known as Zaurums," Palutena explained. "Their attacks can confuse you, so don't stop to say hi." Pit took them down and entered an elevator that was actually a trap. He was then ambushed by more Aurum enemies and an unusual Treasure Box. "Huh?!" he exclaimed. "An elevator into a torture chamber. Convenient!" said Viridi. "Hades, did you put that Treasure Box there?" Palutena suspected. "ME? I would NEVER!" Hades responded. Turns out that the Treasure Chest was actually a Mimicute. "Ugh, it's a Mimicutie!" Pit groaned. "That's strange..." said Viridi, confused. "Could the Aurum have brought it here?" asked Palutena. "Lucifer, did you put that there?" Pit asked his brother. "I don't remember putting Mimicuties in my territory," Lucifer replied. "But that doesn't matter. Just focus on the distraction." Pit complied and then took down the Mimicutie and Aurum enemies. Then, he got out of the elevator. He then saw a Hot Spring. "Ooh hoo hoo! A Hot Spring!" he exclaimed. He then rushed towards it, only for the platform to rise up. "Where's it going?! Get back here, Hot Spring!" he cried. "Don't worry, Pit. There are stairs to your right that will take you to it," Palutena explained. "I love you, hot spring!" Pit cried as he ran up the stairs and landed in the Hot Spring, after the platform landed back down. "Ahhh. I'm feelin' the healin'," he sighed in relaxation. "I hope for your sake that's a hot spring and not some other kind of...puddle," Viridi groaned. "Can you stop fooling around and focus on the mission for goodness sake, brother?!" Lucifer groaned with a facepalm. Pit then continued onwards and took down more enemies. He then spotted an Exo Tank. "Hey, look! An Exo Tank!" he exclaimed. "Hey, look! Who cares?" Hades replied. "It doesn't make sense," said Viridi, confused. "I certainly didn't put it there," said Palutena. "Well, since it's here, I might as well use it!" said Pit. Pit then continued onwards and saw a Treasure Chest. "There's a jump up ahead," said Palutena. "Be careful with this jump," Lucifer warned. "It would be very disappointing if you missed." Luckily, Pit made through the jump and collected the Treasure Chest's goodies. "Not bad! But don't get too cocky," said Lucifer. Pit then hopped back into the Exo Tank and proceeded onwards. He then raced through a track and found another Treasure Chest. "There's another treasure box," said Palutena. "All hail the Goddess of Obvious," Viridi replied. "That's not a thing!" Devil Pit sighed and facepalmed. But it was once again another Mimicutie. "No no no no no no noo!" Pit groaned in shock. "What elegance! What grace! What disturbing brutality!" said Hades, ammused. "No no no no no no no no!" Pit yelled out again. "Something tells me that somebody else is setting up those shitty traps," said Lucifer. Luckily, Pit managed to take out the Mimicute with the help of the Exo Tank. He then jumped off and used an elevator to go up. "I placed a Grind Rail up ahead for you," said Palutena. "Thank you very much!" Pit thanked. "Don't thank me yet. It didn't turn out exactly as I'd hoped," Palutena continued. "It got a little...weird." "Not a problem! I eat 'weird' for breakfast!" said Pit, and then he noticed it when he hopped on the Grind Rail. "But it IS kind of crooked," he continued. "Something seems to have distorted it," said Palutena. "The nerve of those Aurum! How dare they mess with your godly powers?" Viridi scowled. "Sorry about that, Pit," Palutena apologized. Pit then hopped off of the Grind Rail and attacked another Aurum enemy. But something was up with that one. "Your attacks are making that Baglo counterattack," Palutena warned. "Couldn't you have mentioned that earlier?!" Pit yelled. "Consider this as a test of survival, brother," said Lucifer. Pit soon took it down and continued onwards by using another Grind Rail. He took down more enemies along the way. He then jumped off of it and saw another one. "This is the last of the grind rails," said Palutena. "Watch ME stick the landing!" said Pit and then hopped on the Grind Rail to take down more enemies. He then landed on a platform and used an elevator to go down. "There's a path down through that tower," said Palutena. Pit then continued onwards through the path and kept going down. "So I should just keep going down this way?" he asked. "I'm picking up high energy readings from the base of the tower," Palutena replied. "You can head there... I think." "Aww, sounds like someone's losing her nerve!" said Hades. "I guess I'd better step in! Get in here, boys! It's time for some Underworld Army action!" But it didn't last long and the Underworld troops were completely destroyed. "Well, that didn't go very well," said Hades. "I think we should just leave this to Pit," Viridi suggested. "Oh, sure. Do you want me to pick up your dry cleaning too?" Pit scoffed. "Now, now, Pit. Viridi has faith in you, and so do I," said Palutena "I know you can handle it!" "Of course. It's my duty after all," Pit replied. "Pit certainly is devoted to you, Palutena," said Viridi. "Only because she squeezes his head wreath when he doesn't follow orders," said Hades. "You mean like...THIS?!" Palutena taunted. "Don't fall for that, Icarus," Lucifer warned. "She's trying to mess with you like she did to me the last time I was with her." "Nice try, but I'm not going to fall for that again!" said the angel. "Well, that's new," said Hades. "I guess it's not going to work after all," said Palutena, surprised. "Let's just stop talking and get a move on already," said Pit. "Sheesh. Anger issue much?" said Viridi. Pit then continued onwards down the tower until he was closer to his destination. "The center of that platform is an elevator down," said Palutena. Pit then drank another Drink of the Gods and took the elevator to head to where he needed to be at.
Music stops and switches to: Boss Fight 1
Pit then got out of the elevator and saw the Aurum Core. "So that's what I need to destroy?" he asked. "Only one way to find out?" said Hades. Then suddenly, the Aurum Core weaponized itself with guns and activated its shield. "SECURITY MEASURES ENGAGED!" the system stated. "TARGET LOCKED ON SIGHT!" Pit then readied himself to begin the battle. He started by shooting the core, but his attacks were blocked off by the shield. "Augh. That shield is so annoying!" he groaned. "There are gaps in it that expose the core," said Palutena. "Keep circling around the shield, and shoot the openings. You might want to take care of those outer guns too." Pit did so and attack the core through the openings while also taking down the guns. "Your boy Pit gets an A for effort," said Hades. "I don't know what I'd do without him," said Palutena. But I still feel like something is wrong with him, she added in thought. "You can say that I have the strength to take down anything that stands in my way," said Pit. "I shall be victorious to take down the Aurum!" "Well, someone sure is persistent," said Viridi. "Never knew Pitty Pat could act all tough," said Hades. "I only think of him as a little chicken." "Don't even start rubbing salt in my open wounds," Pit groaned. "Now now. Let's just focus on the task at hand," said Palutena, ending the conversation. "Don't even listen to them, Icarus," said Lucifer. "They're only trying to persuade you. Just focus on the distraction and then we'll take them all down later. But I must warn you that it's not going to be easy taking down that core." Apparently, Lucifer wasn't lying about the core going down that easily and Pit was still having trouble due to the shield. "Man, this is NOT easy!" he exclaimed. "That rotating shield is your main problem," Palutena explained. "Anticipate when the gaps in the shield will appear. When the shield is right in front of you, do a forward-dash charged shot." Pit did as he was told and broke through the shield by attacking at the open areas. He then used a forward-dash charged shot to finish it off. "Pulverized!" he exclaimed in victory. "Let's see what happens!" said Hades. Pyrrhon arrived just in time to get Pit out of the islands. The Aurum Islands then crumbled and fell out of the sky. Pyrrhon and Pit made it out of there in one piece. "You all right there, citizen?" Pyrrhon asked. "A-OK!" Pit responded. "Thanks for your help, Pyrrhon," Palutena thanked before opening up a light pillar. "Pit, let's regroup." She then whisked Pit back to come up with a plan of counterattack. "Whoop!" said Pyrrhon after that. Then he noticed something. "Pyrrhon senses danger." He then turned around and saw a hoard of Aurum Battleships. "And now... Pyrrhon sees it." After that, he teleported away to think of a plan to stop them.

Throughout all this, Lucifer was in the Void watching the battle unfold. While the Chaos Kin is doing his job, Icarus must continue with the distraction in order for our enemies to not get suspicious, he thought. Not only that, I also have special creations in the works to slow HIM down. He then contacted his brother telepathically and said, "Icarus, you're doing pretty good with the distraction. Keep this up and we'll have everything all under control. Understand?" "Consider it done, Lucifer. They'll never know what hit 'em," Pit affirmed. "Good. Now, make sure you get that done as quickly as possible," said Lucifer. "I'll have the Chaos Kin continue its mission before preparing ourselves for the final step of the plan." He then finished the conversation and continued to wait until the distraction is complete. "Sacrifices will be made, but in the end, it will be all worth it," he said to himself. "Those foolish mortals and immortals will never stop us! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!"
Looks like everything is going as Lucifer planned. What is going to happen if the Aurum succeeds or fails? Will the brothers move on with the final step of the plan, or will their enemies find a way to stop them as soon as possible? Stay tuned for chapter sixteen of the Evil Route to find out, review, and have a great day!
