Ordinary People
Dad and me went out the next morning and he got me a rental car to drive around for a bit, he'd look into getting me an actual car down the line which I wasn't against.
Bonnie happily headed off to school without me, glad she didn't have to go back to chauffeuring me around. I decided to meet up with Rebekah before we went to school, I wanted to show her these pictures before Damon stole my idea.
I was happy as hell when I got to the boarding house and nobody was there other than Rebekah. The blonde was staring into her closet looking between a series of beautiful dresses.
"Alicia, you made it." Rebekah turned around and smiled at me. I pointed at the wall of dresses behind her.
"Homecoming?"
"Yes, I'm trying to decide which one I like better." She replied looking back at them again."It's just so hard to decide when they are just hanging on the wall."
"You've got enough for a fashion show." I joked, it was true though. The girl had hella options and they all looked amazing but then again Rebekah was simply gorgeous.
"That's a great idea." Rebekah hummed, she grabbed her backpack from the floor and started toward me."Let's get to school, I can't wait to practice with the squad."
"I'm thinking about quitting." I said, Rebekah stopped in her tracks and stared at me.
"You will do no such thing."
"It's kinda hard to be cheery when I have to cheer with Caroline." I replied, Rebekah started walking again. The two of us headed outside to my car.
"If I can do it, you can too. So what if she stole your wolf, there's plenty of men to choose from." Rebekah replied, I gave her a look. She couldn't give me that advice when she was still pining over Stefan.
"You don't suppose I can borrow one of your brothers?" I asked, Rebekah snorted."For homecoming, I am dateless."
"You've only got one to choose from; the others are not available right now."
"Do you have a date?" I asked starting the car, it was very easy to forget Rebekah was an original vampire. She seemed very much a teenage girl and definitely reminded me of someone Caroline & I would hang out with.
"Nope. Nobody caught my eye. I've been asked plenty though." She replied, I rolled my eyes of course she has. It's the exact same thing that happened when Stefan showed up everybody started trying to get their attention because we were not use to fresh meat. You know how hard it is to date someone who hasn't slept with one of your friends in this town?
"We can go together." I offered, she smiled at me. I felt bad for Elijah because in his time daggered Rebekah may have taken over as my favorite original.
"Great. Come to my house later to see the fashion show, you can pick one of the dresses too."
"I think you're my new best friend."
"I've never had one of those before." Rebekah replied after a moment. I was scared for a second. I didn't know if she'd react violently or if she'd cry. She was that hard to read.
"Great, you don't have anyone you can compare me to."I replied. We spent the car ride listening to music. It was pretty hard because I had to give Rebekah a history lesson on every artist who came on if she noticed I really liked the song. But we made it through.
Class went by fairly quick and when lunch rolled around, instead of sitting with Bonnie, Elena & Caroline. I sat with Rebekah and her harem of suitors. Elena & Caroline looked shocked while Bonnie didn't really care too much. Her level of minding her own business was astonishing and I wished the rest of us could be like her.
"You aren't gonna sit with your friends?" Rebekah asked, taken aback that I'd clearly chosen her over them."They look pretty pissed, I do enjoy it though."
"I'm sitting with my bestfriend." I replied, I knew Caroline heard it and I didn't care how she felt right now. I'd talk to her eventually but I didn't have any desire to do it right now.
"Great, you all can get lost now." Rebekah ordered, I was shocked when all the boys jumped up and took off. God the power that Elena Gilbert has, has finally be trumped by the power of Rebekah.
"I wish they all worked like that." I frowned pulling out my phone."Mutus." I put up a small silencing spell, it should be able to keep Caroline from hearing what we were talking about.
"Oooh magic." Rebekah smiled."You're being really mean to her, she's going crazy cause she can't hear us."
"She'll be fine, I needed to show you something and I rather they not know what you tell me." I replied, she stared at me for a moment before nodding, I pulled out my phone and showed her a few of the cave pictures I'd taken.
"Where'd you find this?"
"On the Lockwood estate." I replied, she grabbed my phone and zoomed in staring at each drawing sadly. My hunch was clearly right."Is this about you guys?"
"Yes, this one right here." She swiped over and zoomed in again, I had no idea what I was looking at but she did."I carved this personally, it says Rebekah,Elijah & Niklaus."
"Oh wow that is cool." I was in awe while Rebekah looked absolutely frightened.
"Who else knows?"
"Alaric, Damon and probably Elena." I replied, she started to stand up but I grabbed her arm."Hey, I had to come to you about it, because I didn't know what I was seeing. I doubt they'll figure it out."
"You're right." She replied with a smile that was clearly forced.
"I take it, it's too personal to discuss so I won't press anymore." I said cracking open my bottle of water. I took down the spell and we talked as normal for the rest of lunch, about boys, homecoming and dresses.
When last period ended Rebekah grabbed my arm and all but dragged me to the locker room so we could get changed and get to practice. I was actually afraid of what she had planned, Caroline was never even that excited to go over cheers.
"Alicia put some pep in it the girls are waiting." She stood beside me with her hands on her hips, I guess she forgot that I had to really fight my way out of these jeans and then fight my way into those tiny athletic shorts, I liked to practice in so much.
"I'm trying, my thighs have a mind of their own." I winced getting my shorts on, getting into them was a fight but once I got them on. My ass cheeks were almost deadly.
"Nice ass." Rebekah commented."Giving the ex something to stare at?"
"I choose not to comment." I replied grabbing a bottle of water from my bag as the two of us headed outside, the other girls were already out there stretching. I was shocked to see Caroline wasn't present but shrugged it off. Rebekah and I sat down on the grass and helped each other stretch.
"Here comes the Doppelganger." Rebekah said, I pulled my arms back so Rebekah could stretch her back and looked up."You goody."
"I was hoping we could talk." Elena replied, Rebekah and I let go of each other's hands she stood up first pulling me to my feet.
"About what? Stefan? Don't worry I'm off him until he starts treating me better. In fact you should probably take a page out my book, if I'm being honest." Rebekah answered, I winced at how random that was to say. But I have to keep in mind Rebekah doesn't like the rest of them.
"Actually I'd rather talk about this." Elena replied unfazed by Rebekah's words, she showed her a picture of what Rebekah explained to me was her and her siblings names." I'm curious why you and your siblings have been running a thousand years from your father."
My mouth fell into an O shape, hm maybe they were more resourceful than I thought because I would've never came to that conclusion.
"I should get back to the girls' homecoming right around the corner." Rebekah answered, she was clearly shaken up by Elena.
"Well then maybe I'll ask Mikeal when we wake him." Elena replied.. Mikeal, that was the dude Stefan was asking about back in Chicago. Oh shit Mikeal the vampire Hunter is their father?
"You're bluffing. You don't know where he is. No one does." Rebekah replied. I just realized this was definitely an appropriate moment for Rebekah to savagely murder Elena and myself cause she probably thinks I lied to her now.
"So then who's that rotting in that old cemetery in Charlotte?" Elena asked smuggly. Oh this girl was gonna get us massacred. I did not like that.
"Elena." I warned.
"If you wake Mikeal, we are all doomed." Rebekah replied, man if the original vampire is shook then we should all be shook.
"So then tell me." Elena ordered; I scoffed this was that mean girl side of Elena I couldn't stand. You're really going to bully an original vampire into telling you about a vampire Hunter?
"Why do you want to know?" I asked, I was confused more than anything. Unless they didn't know Mikeal and the Hunter Stefan were talking about were the same person yet.
"We need to get back to the girls." Rebekah says, she turned on her heel and walked off, I shook my head at Elena annoyed with her tactics.
"What are you doing?" I asked, Elena just shrugged.
"I'm getting information." She replied firmly, she didn't say anything else before she walked off. I stared at the back of her head confused if she really had any idea of what she was doing.
"We're gonna die." I gulped following after Rebekah, she was instructing the girls on a spot she had in mind but she looked like she wasn't really into it."You okay?"
"Yeah, come to my house later. I'm gonna invite Elena over." She replied, I stared at her as if she grew a second head. Did that little act Elena put on actually work?
"Are you sure?"
"Yes, now get over there. I need you to do the move, Brittney sucks." Rebekah whined lightly shoving me toward the girls.
"I've been saying this since 8th grade."
After practice I headed home to shower and change, Bonnie said something about taking the necklace to Alaric and was gone before I could even question it.
Damn maybe I should've stayed when Alaric showed up, he was just plowing right through those cave drawings while I still knew nothing.
I filled up Rudy's bowls and went out onto the porch surprised to see Caroline standing there.
"If you're looking for Bonnie she already left." I replied, I knew she wasn't here for Bonnie but I didn't have the energy to deal with her right now.
"I'm not looking for Bonnie, I'm here for you." She replied sheepishly, I opened my mouth to talk but she held her hand up and hushed me."I know you're angry and I just want you to hear me out. I didn't plan on liking Tyler, we got really close the first full moon after you left. And it just sort of turned into this."
"So it's my fault for leaving." I deducted, I rocked on my heels for a moment without even thinking about it I punched Caroline square in the face.
"What the hell." She rubbed her cheek more so for dramatic effect she and I both knew without magic that punch was nothing but a pinch to her." I'm not saying that, you left to save Damon and protect us all."
"It's fine, Care." I shrugged while checking the time." I actually have somewhere to be, so yeah." I stepped around her, she wanted her bullshit explanation of it just happened to be enough for me and it wasn't.
"Alicia, you can't freeze me out forever."
"I definitely can, I'm not going to Whitman next year for one so that shouldn't be hard." I smiled at her before continuing down the steps, surprisingly Klaus had taken care of my college stuff while we were traveling around. Sent a compelled vampire to compel my way into LSU and literally any other school in Louisiana I might apply to.
"But all four of us were supposed to go together." Caroline said flashing in front of me, she had that hurt puppy dog look on her face that usually worked on me."You're gonna make us room with some random now? Over this?"
"I decided last year I was going, I'm joining the coven." I replied annoyed, we'd definitely discussed this already."And it's gonna be awesome starting my life fresh."
"Alicia." Caroline said, I rolled my eyes I was pressed for time and really didn't trust Elena alone with Rebekah for too long.
"I kissed Tyler last night."
"What? He's sirebonded he isn't himself." She replied dumbfounded, I shrugged and stepped around her I don't think she realized that was my way of ending the conversation.
"He also said he'd always love me, so you should probably go deal with that while I go deal with my shit." I unlocked my car door and opened it, Caroline grabbed it from me and closed it back.
"Stop."
"Do you want to fucking fight or something?" I asked annoyed, Caroline was starting to get on my nerves. She may be faster but she knew I could snap her neck before she made a move for me.
"No what, fine. Run away like you always do." Caroline hissed before she flashed off. I stared at where she stood moments ago and scuffed at the irony of her saying that and taking off. I opened my car door back up and climbed inside making my way to the Salvatore house.
My phone vibrated several times meaning Rebekah was definitely annoyed with how long I was taking, I sighed in relief when I finally parked in front of the house. Elena's car was already outside as expected, I wondered if Elena was even still alive.
"Sorry, I'm late I got held up." I called out walking inside the house.
"We're in Stefan's room." Rebekah yelled back, I nodded as if she could see me and made my way upstairs. Rebekah was laying in Stefan's bed with a journal while Elena was standing by the window on the phone.
"Caroline." I muttered to Rebekah she laid down Stefan's journal and got out of bed closing the distance between us in a second.
"I can kill her?"
"No." I snorted, I doubted she was serious but then again why wouldn't she be serious."She's just annoying. She came to my house to talk but I needed to be here and she wouldn't fuck off."
"That is rather annoying. What do you think Elena?" Rebekah asked, we turned our attention to the brunette who was putting away her phone. She seemed like she was also annoyed.
"Yeah." She agreed although she clearly didn't really care. Rebekah strolled over to a picture of Stefan & Elena and picked it up. She looked at it for a moment before placing it back down.
"I don't get you two as a couple."
"Why would you? You don't know anything about who he really is." Elena argued, I personally felt like neither of them really knew who Stefan was; they both got different sides. Elena got the good and Rebekah got the bad but they'd never experienced both.
"I know exactly who he is. He's a vampire. We're a predatory species. We don't have time to care about humans and there silly little lives. Oh yeah, Alicia you're wearing the black dress." Rebekah replied, Elena's face twitched a bit. I think they were about to engage in another bitch off.
"Is that why you did that little runway show earlier? Because you don't care about the homecoming dance?" Elena asked and damn did Elena checkmate her, you could see Rebekah tighten her mouth she looked like she'd been beaten.
"Maybe we should go?" I asked, Rebekah when wounded was violet as hell. And I rather not die because Elena won a war of words.
"No, you haven't even heard half the story yet." Rebekah replied, I raised an eyebrow she'd had us come here so she could give us both a story?
"Story about what?" I asked confused, damn Caroline made me miss something interesting.
"My family, the drawings." She replied I looked at Elena wide eyed who just shrugged. I tugged her arm and sat her down in the bed.
"Well tell me."
She'd told us how her necklace belonged to the original witch, the witch who cursed Klaus had also made them immortal. She did it as a way to protect her family so none of them can be killed again.
She'd enlisted my ancestor Ayana to help but Ayana was smart, she wanted no parts in that kind of magic. She drew power from the white oak tree and the sun. That very same night, her father had given them wine laced with blood and killed then. He'd made them feed and forced them to change.
Rebekah took a break in telling the story, she'd brought us down to the kitchen for drinks and I could very much use one.
She'd filled glasses of wine for the three of us and we made our way back to the living room for the rest of the story.
She'd told us how for every strength there were very heavy weaknesses. They couldn't go into the sunlight, so the Original Witch had to create daylight rings for them.
The flowers that grew at the base of the white oak tree burned them, they turned out to be the vervain we love so much.
They could not enter anyone's home without their permission. The spirits worked hard to ensure that vampires had a hard time.
The most interesting part was when she said the spell that made it so the tree gave them life could also take it away. Rebekah had just given Elena exactly what she wanted to know. White oak could kill them however, they'd burned down that tree over a thousand years ago.
Rebekah and I had downed our glasses of wine already while Elena didn't even both to drink her's. She was definitely up to something.
"Why did Mikeal start hunting Klaus?" Elena asked, I narrowed my eyes we both heard this before I'm not sure what she needed it explained all over again.
"When Nik made his first kill, it triggered his werewolf gene. With that he became our fathers biggest shame." She explained, I scuffed at the explanation. Klaus being a wolf was literally not his fault.
"Yeah, Elijah told me this part of the story. Your mother had an affair with one of the village werewolves. Klaus wasn't his son." Elena replied.
"She tried to make it right. She put the hybrid curse on Nik to suppress his werewolf side. And then she turned her back on him." Rebekah said, I rolled my eyes hard once again. It wasn't Klaus' fault.
"Your moms a bitch." I hissed annoyed."She cheated and her son is the one punished for it?"
"Don't let her distract you."Elena said, I rolled my eyes. Damn is my dislike for something insane a distraction?
"Can I continue?" She asked when neither of us said anything she cleared her throat."Mikeal's greatest weakness as a human was his pride. As a vampire that magnified. He went on a rampage and killed half the village and then he killed her."
"Fuck, I'm sorry." I apologized. I don't know what kind of death I was expecting but it wasn't one so soon after them turning.
"I've made my peace with it." Rebekah shrugged, I didn't like the look Elena had in her eyes. She looked like she knew something.
"Mikeal killed your mother?"
"He said she broke his heart so he would break hers. He tore it from her chest as Nik watched. Afterwards my father took off in a rage and my family scattered." Rebekah finished, no wonder they were all batshit crazy. I'd be insane too if I got murdered then stalked by my father.
"Always and forever even though he locked you in a coffin for 90 years?" Elena asked Rebekah had mentioned the oath they took to stand by each other's side always and forever and immediately tried to shit on it.
"We're vampires, our emotions are heightened. I'm stubborn, Elijah moral and Nik." She paused trying to find exactly the right word."Nik doesn't tolerate those who disappoint him. Over a thousand years as a family we've all made a mistake at least once. I've made several."
"But you still love him?" Elena asked. Oooh I can't stand her ass. That's her goddamn brother of course.
"He's her brother."
"He's my brother, and I am immortal. Should I spend an eternity alone instead? You've heard the story now leave Elena. I don't know what your up to but I'm done playing." Rebekah went from calm to angry in the blink of an eye and Elena did not have enough fear in her eyes for me.
"Come on." I tried to guide Elena away but she pulled her arm back, she was determined to get herself killed awesome.
"I'm looking for one good reason we shouldn't raise Mikeal." Elena replied, I stared at her slack jawed. He needed her alive in order to make Hybrids so he wouldn't harm her anymore as long as she cooperated. I'm not understanding why she wants to go through such extreme lengths to kill him.
"And I've given you a thousand. But you will anyway." Rebekah said annoyed." I know you want him to help kill my brother. I'm not stupid."
I titled my head that was their plan? With Klaus as a hybrid he's the strongest supernatural creature to exist. I think he can handle his dad, I'm sure he's waited a thousand years to beat his abusive ass.
"It's no secret I want Klaus dead. He's got a hold over my life and Stefan's." She replied.
"Do what you need. Wake Mikeal at your own peril. But make no mistake, if you come after my brother I will rip you apart." Rebekah threatened, Elena was smart enough to actually look afraid. Shit I was scared and Rebekah wasn't even talking to me." And I get my temper from my dad. Now leave."
And surprisingly this time Elena did leave. Rebekah tried to calm herself down but it didn't seem like it was working.
"Hey relax, they won't raise Mikeal. I think it's a bad idea too." I replied, she looked at me skeptically for a moment almost like Elena had made her weary of me too."I'm not working with them to do that, I promise. I was just curious about the cave drawings."
"How do I know that though? You've only even met me because my brother had you hostage." She replied, I groaned I actually like Rebekah once you got passed her hot and cold moods but it was like that with Klaus too.
"Me and Elijah talked about you once." I said, her eyes lit up at the mention of her older brother."I told him you sounded wonderful. A female original? Sounded like the most badass thing in the world to me."
"I am quite wonderful." She grinned happily at me.
I went to the bathroom while Rebekah went back to her room, she needed to calm herself down so she didn't go out and kill something.
I rolled my eyes at the massive amount of text messages I had from Caroline. The girl was beyond annoying at this point and would not take the hint to leave me the hell alone.
I pulled out my phone and called Tyler it would probably definitely add fuel to her fire, but he shouldn't have mentioned he was supposed to keep an eye on me.
"Tyler tell your girlfriend to leave me alone."
"What?" He asked, clearly confused. I doubt she discussed with him how she planned to annoy me into not being angry anymore.
"Tell your girlfriend to stop bothering me." I said again this time much slower before hanging up. I headed off to Rebekah's room, I figured I should probably try on the dress she was giving me to make sure it looked nice.
"You okay?" She asked when I entered the room, she was sitting on her bed with a bottle of scotch in hand.
"Yeah, just over Teenage drama." I replied going over to her closet, it didn't take me long to find the row of dresses. I pulled the black one out and ran my hand over the material."This is gorgeous, for someone who missed 80 years your sense of fashion is amazing."
"Thank you." She smiled but it didn't quite reach her eyes. Elena managed to really get to her.
"Hey, even if they do raise Mikael. Klaus will kill him." I said putting my hand on her shoulder. I had faith that if they were able to pull off said plan it would work. I think Klaus' ego won't allow himself to be killed so soon after becoming a hybrid.
"I'm worried about the damage he'll cause before that. He's burned down whole cities trying to get to us." She replied, my face paled. I lived in a city. Yeah, Damon and friends didn't think too hard about this one.
"Oh fuck, so we're all gonna die?" I frowned, I wasn't in any shape or form ready to die. Especially when it was something very avoidable.
"No, I'll make sure you save you." Rebekah replied with a small smile. She stared at the dress as I held it up in front of me."That'll look pretty on you."
"We'll be the prettiest girls there." I smiled back, I hated how talking to Rebekah definitely felt as natural as talking to Caroline.
"I'm gonna go grab a glass for this." Rebekah held up her bottle of scotch before going downstairs. I tried on the dress and modeled it slightly in the mirror, it looked amazing and I couldn't wait to wear it. I changed back into my clothes and laid down on Rebekah's bed pulling my phone out.
A text from Bonnie caught my eye. She was apparently helping Alaric decipher the cave art. I texted back quickly asking her what exactly it was that she found.
Klaus killed their mother
"Well that's fucking dark as hell to write on a wall." I scoffed, I went to reply but I heard Rebekah let out a yell. I dropped my phone on the bed and took off down the steps, Elena was back and Rebekah was on her knees crying hysterically.
"What did you do?" I asked, staring from Rebekah to Elena. The girl looked remorseful for once.
"I told her the truth about Klaus." She replied, Rebekah let out another pained cry. I wordlessly dropped down to my knees beside her and pulled her into a hug.
"Elena you should go and stay gone." I warned, the brunette chewed her lip for a second almost as if she was debating if she should listen to me."She hasn't done anything to you and you broke her heart for what? To convince her to let you bring Mikeal? Just leave."
Elena scoffed but did as I said, I heard the door slam shut behind her. Rebekah and I sat on the living room floor until her sobs slowly stopped. She looked up at me, her big blue eyes full of sadness.
"Is it true?" She asked, sounding every bit of the child she really was.
"Yes, Bonnie just texted me not too long ago." I answered, Rebekah choked back a sob before wiping her face off. She slowly stood up from the ground, and went upstairs.
"Do you want me to stay?" I called after her.
"No, I'll see you tomorrow." She yelled back."I need to be alone."
I wanted to press her but I knew it wouldn't be the best idea. I went back out to the car and sighed rubbing my temples. Elena Gilbert would be the death of me.
