Don't go gentle
The second I got home from Denver I blocked Kol's number. No man should ever have that much power over me.
I was thankful the girls were busy setting up for the decades dance so I could avoid having to see them until tonight.
I took my remote and turned on Superbad and laid down in my bed, I had every intention to lay in bed with my door locked and hide from the world all day. Well at least until I had to drive into town and pick out a flapper dress since Rebekah got the theme changed to the 20's from the 70's.
"Rudy." I called out, the dog barked from the corner of the room and hopped up onto the bed he was getting bigger and I hated it. Pretty soon I wouldn't be able to carry him around like a baby anymore."You'd never judge me right?"
He barked in response. I wanted to pretend that was him saying no, but he was probably judging me right now.
I pulled out my phone and called Davina, she was level headed enough that I could talk to her without her freaking out, Monique on the other hand would have had my business all over the coven before we even hung up.
"Hey Lee." Davina said cheerfully, it was nice to hear somebody who wasn't over life.
"Dee!" I matched her tone, I wished I talked to the younger girl a lot more. She was really great.
"What's up?"
"Would you like the hear the drama that is my life?" I asked, Davina didn't reply so I took that as a yes and told her all about my trip to Denver when I finished she let out a loud sigh.
"You are crazy. You're having a fling with one of the old ones?" Davina asked she sounded like she was in awe."And you staked a vampire because you were jealous? I think your character development is going backwards."
"Funny." I scoffed rolling my eyes."I think something is wrong with me, I'm normally more in control then that. I didn't even think about it when I did it."
"You might have feelings for him." She replied, I palmed my forehead because I knew for a fact I did. The part that scared me is that I knew for a fact I'd never be so reckless with Tyler whom I think I loved.
"I know. I'm just realizing I suck as a witch. I should be more like Bonnie wanting to kill them all. But somehow I like them more than my actual friends." I confessed it seemed like I was able to go less and less days without getting angry talking to them.
"Maybe you are growing, and they align better with your vision for yourself."
"Why are you so wise at 15?" I asked, shaking my head. I wished I had a head on my shoulders like Davina's. I'd be so much better off.
"Monique is crazy, one of us has to be responsible." Davina replied giggling."So when are you coming back? We're already starting to practice for the Harvest."
"I'm flying out in January." I replied it definitely probably wasn't fair that I got out of practicing for it but I think I was a rare case to the New Orleans witches.
"That sucks. But it's only two months." Davina said she paused for a second as if she just remembered something."They also chose Monique & Cassie. We're each supposed to represent four elements."
"I'm water." I gaped remembering when Jane- Anne referred to me as a water witch.
"Monique is earth, I'm fire and Cassie is air." Davina finished, it was an interesting take, I was curious if those elements were they're strong suits." But I think you should stop hiding and go out, you can't control who you like and if they are you're friends they'll understand."
"God can you just adopt me?"
"You're the adult technically." Davina laughed."Miss 18 in February."
"That's besides the point."
"Right, I've gotta go. We have to get to practice." Davina replied we both hung up and I got dressed scooping my keys up from the dresser. I headed out to the costume shop and brought a pretty pink flapper dress.
I stopped at the grill and grabbed some food before going home, I found it a bit weird I'd been home for several hours and hadn't heard from Rebekah. I assumed she would've been waiting for me at the airport to hear all about the trip.
I shrugged off Rebekah's absence and got dressed, I looked as if I stepped straight out of a time machine and I still wasn't excited.
I grabbed my purse and filled up Rudy's bowl before climbing into my car and driving to the school. When I walked inside it was actually pretty nice inside, Rebekah did her thing. I scanned the room, I raised an eyebrow at who I saw Bonnie dancing with.
Jamie was here?
And why do I get the vibe they like each other ?
I walked up to Bonnie and slid in between the two of them Bonnie started to protest until she realized it was me.
"Soo what's this?" I pointed between the two of them, Bonnie blushed and Jamie gave me an awkward one handed hug."Please tell me you aren't interested in each other because Abigail ran off again."
"No." They both replied at the same time, I raised an eyebrow but shrugged it off.
"Whatever, no room to judge."
"How are you holding up?" Jamie asked, it was weird. For him to be interested in Bonnie after I had the whole older brother conversation with the both of them. And then how do you even explain that? I'm dating the kid my absentee Mother chose to raise instead of me? It just sounds gross.
"Well nothings changed, I didn't have a mom before and I still don't have one." I shrugged Jamie looked at me awkwardly while Bonnie looked just as indifferent as I did."Same day different shit."
"Have you tried calling her?"
"Fuck her." Bonnie answered. Her tone meant the conversation was final which I had zero problem agreeing with.
"So am I the bad guy?" I asked Bonnie scrunched her face up confused before making an Oh face.
"Nah, Elena actually thinks you were in danger. However Jeremy did tell her that Kol's "girlfriend from college" was gonna be at the batting cage which turned out to be you." Bonnie explained, Elena may actually believe that but Damon, that man was a genius. He probably knew about it before I even knew.
"Kol? Is that your boyfriend?" Jamie asked. I rolled my eyes because my brain wanted to say yes. Which was weird because my brain never spoke up in these kinds of moments.
"Nah, he's just a friend."
"Friend who's penis you sit on." Bonnie mumbled, I kicked her in the shin and ignored the yelp in pain she let out. She punched me in the boob in retaliation.
"Have you seen Rebekah?" I asked. Her absence was really getting weird now. With the way she was looking forward to homecoming I knew for a fact she wouldn't willingly miss this dance.
"Now that you mention it, no. But Klaus is here." Bonnie pointed to the other side of the room where Klaus was talking to Caroline & Tyler? Huh? I hadn't seen him in awhile.
"Not the Mikaelson I want, but he'll do." I replied walking off, Tyler had walked away from Caroline & Klaus just as I walked up. He looked at me and gave me a weird look but didn't say anything.
"Mind if I cut in?" I grinned cheekily, Klaus looked at me and smiled. Caroline actually look grateful for my intrusion.
"Be my guest."
"Where the hell is your sister? I haven't seen or heard from her all day." I asked, Klaus paused and pulled out his phone. I wondered if he noticed Rebekah was missing before I said anything. He motioned for me to follow him since the dance was loud. We headed outside and bumped into an invisible barrier."Son of a bitch."
"What's going on?" Klaus asked, I shrugged I didn't have a thing to do with it and I'm sure Bonnie was busy making out with Jamie so she didn't do it either.
"I'm not sure but one of them probably know." I said nodding toward Damon & Stefan. The brothers walked up to us, Damon had this weird look in his eye but I choose to ignore it for the purpose of finding out the reason I was trapped.
"Your mothers back." Stefan explained, Klaus gritted his teeth and I scoffed in annoyance. If Bonnie & Abby would've just left it asleep she wouldn't be terrorizing anybody right now.
"Oh goodie." I already know what the next step in all this is and don't even waste any time. I turned on my heel and started to walk off."I'll get Bonnie meet us in Alaric's class."
"Is it gonna be just you or is your boyfriend gonna be there too?" Damon called out, I tensed up a bit but chose to let it go. Once again for the greater good.
It didn't take me long to find Bonnie & I was very satisfied to pull her off of Jamie. One look at my face and she knew it was important, I dragged her off to History class with Jamie jogging to keep up with us.
I threw the door open and used my magic to slam most of the desks out the way, just in case we ended up needing space.
Bonnie & I sat down in front of each other and held hands.
"What are we doing?" Bonnie asked closing her eyes and taking a deep breath. I did the same thing she did and relaxed. Magic would only cooperate if you had the focus needed for it.
"Breaking a boundary spell." I smiled even though I knew she couldn't see it.
"Don't we need more than just us?" She asked, I could sense she popped her eye open so I did the same. Sure Esther was powerful, but when Bonnie & I actually worked spells together we were strong as hell.
"Nah, shouldn't be that hard." I shrugged, Bonnie looked skeptical but closed her eyes again anyway. I took another deep breath and closed mine back.
I heard the door open and some footsteps, I knew it was the others finally joining us.
It took some time, I'm pretty sure Bonnie kept tripping up the incantation on purpose. When I felt the magic evaporate I opened my eyes, Bonnie didn't look anywhere near as happy as I did.
"Is it done?"
"It's done." I confirmed, Klaus held his hand out to me and helped me up from the floor. Stefan, Bonnie & Jamie left the room immediately. Damon stood on the other side of the room arms crossed staring between Klaus and I.
"Take a picture Mate, it'll last longer." Klaus teased grabbing my arm and running us out the school. I had zero idea where Esther would be and I assumed he shouldn't have knowledge of that either.
We stopped in the parking lot, in front of Klaus' truck. I leaned up against the car annoyed. I pulled out my phone and sent Bonnie a text. I think it would be smart to do a locator spell to find Elena.
"So where's your mother?" I asked, bailing when all the tools we needed for the spell were already here actually bothered me but whatever. She won't kill me.
"Your sisters smart, she'll do a locator spell and call you. We'll already be on the way. " Klaus replied opening up the passenger side door for me, I shook my head but climbed in anyway. If he feels like this will speed things up then whatever.
"Okay, but do you have an idea of where she'd go? Somewhere significant to her?" I asked as Klaus hopped in and put the car into drive."You think she'd go back to the witches house?"
"No, she knows that would be the first place we check." Klaus replied, pulling out the parking lot. He stared straight ahead deep in thought.
My phone suddenly rang, it was most likely Bonnie updating me on the locator spell. I took it out of my bra and put it on speaker.
"Bonnie any luck?"
"No, it's like Esther's fighting me." Bonnie explained, Klaus' whole face lit up and he abruptly made a sharp turn tossing me against the window and nearly making me drop my phone." What was that? Are you okay?"
"Yeah I think Klaus knows where to go."
"For her to be blocking Bonnie, she needs to be channeling something. What's a better hotspot than the place where she died." Klaus replied, I raised my eyebrow and I'm sure Bonnie was making the exact same face right now.
"Huh? That makes sense." Bonnie replied.
"Thank you for the help, I'll keep you updated." I replied hanging up. Part of me hoped Bonnie would try and track me and Stefan & Damon would show up if we were in danger but another part of me rather they stay far away because they tend to fuck things up.
I found it ironic when we arrived at the cemetery it was even more ironic when the exact spot Esther died at turned out to be the very same crypt Stefan & Damon's family was buried. If I'd knew that I could've harvested Esther's magic my damn self.
"Do we have a plan?" I asked as we stood in front of the crypt. I had this feeling of dread in my gut, I didn't want to go inside. But if Klaus needed me to go inside then I would gladly go inside with him.
"Kill her?"
"More detailed." I scoffed.
"Kill her." Klaus looked at me blankly and shrugged."Quickly."
"That's the best I'm gonna get." I rolled my eyes as he walked inside first. And just as I expected Esther was on him with the aneurysm spell immediately. I casted a counter spell of my own, one that should make her magic a bit weaker. It wasn't a huge nerf but enough of a nerf to make her think I had something else planned.
"Your ancestors are disgusted with you." Esther hissed, I scoffed. They'd made it pretty damn clear they favored Bonnie over me but the difference between me and them were I was alive and I certainly planned on staying that damn way." A Bennett witch who's siding with Vampires, at least Emily was forced into it. You willingly follow my children into danger and for what? The slim chance they'll accept you and protect you. What are you so afraid of?"
"Dying via some stupid shit." I smirked, truthfully if Esther hadn't cheated on Mikeal then none of this would've happened but that's none of my business."I'm a witch, this is unfortunately my life. Your children aren't that bad."
"You'll be dead like them." Esther replied, I felt it before I processed what happened. She broke the hold I had on her magic and sent me flying into the wall behind me. I fell through something and banged my head hard enough that I definitely was seeing stars.
"Alicia!" Elena shrieked running over to me, she immediately ripped off a piece of her dress and pressed it against my head. I must be bleeding right now. That sucked.
I tried to sit up, but Elena pushed me back down. I felt like Esther was walking up to me to finish the job and then I felt nothing. Elena was staring at something with wide eyes. I felt a wrist press against my lips and sticky warm liquid filled my mouth, I felt my head slowly stop hurting and forced myself up.
Alaric was standing over Esther's dead body. Klaus had held his hand out to me and helped me up before he made his way over to his mother and scooped her up from the floor.
"What the fuck happened?" I asked staring from Elena to Alaric to Klaus. I was only out of commission for a few seconds and the fight was over? Neither Me or any of Klaus' siblings even got to kill her ? This isn't a win in my book.
"She cracked your head open , it waS pretty gruesome." Klaus answered walking out the crypt. I rolled my eyes as he disappeared momentarily most likely he was putting his mother away.
"Alaric snuck up behind her and killed her and here we are." Elena answered.
"I still feel like I'm missing something." I frowned, shaking my head."She took you both here for what?"
The two of them looked at each other and then to the doorway. Elena cleared her throat and Alaric shifted his weight from one foot to the other.
"She wanted to make Ric into a weapon, it didn't work." She explained. I scrunched up my eyebrows I was insanely confused.
"Why him though?"
"Apparently she's the reason he's got an alter ego." Elena explained, I stared at Ric sympathetically when he died he had the misfortune of dealing with Esther regularly ? That's tough.
"It didn't work right? She's dead and there's nothing to worry about?"
"Nothing to worry about." Alaric reassured me, I let out a sigh of relief and hugged Elena before hugging Alaric.
"Let's pretend I'm still concussed. But I'm glad you saved me."
"No problem." Elena smiled it looked forced but I wasn't in the mood to question her.
"You should get out of here." Alaric said when I released him from the hug."Make sure Klaus properly disposes of Esther so she can't fuck us over again."
"I know." I laughed and walked outside the crypt. Klaus had just slammed his trunk closed. I knew he left me there to gather information and I knew that they wouldn't reveal a thing with him in such close proximity.
"You ready?" Klaus asked turning to face me, I nodded and climbed into the passenger seat. Klaus jumped into the drivers seat and we drove away. Something about they're story didn't make any sense and I couldn't place my finger on exactly what part of it, it was.
"So you're gonna find Rebekah right?"
"Of course." Klaus huffed as if I asked a dumb question."She can explain to me what my Mother did do her."
"Sounds fun." I leaned my head back against the seat and sighed."You wouldn't happen to know if your brother is coming back would you?"
"The brother who's calls you stopped answering once you got on a plane? He's a bit bummed you got into his knickers and stopped talking to him." Klaus teased, my cheeks turned red and I slapped him in the arm playfully."If you want him to come back just tell him."
"I'm not asking because I want him to comeback. I want him to stay away from me." I replied, Klaus looked at me skeptically and turned back to looking at the road.
"And why is that? I'm not usually a fan of my siblings' suitors but I don't dislike the two of you together."
"I'm telling Rebekah you said that." I pointed at him and he grimaced."It felt like too much too fast. Did he tell you what happened?"
"Just that you left him heartbroken in Denver."
"He did not say that." I scoffed absentmindedly, rubbing the back of my head.
"Something along those lines." Klaus hummed, I wanted to choke him. The most feared of all the Originals was literally teasing me about his brother, this grown 1,000 year old man was acting like he was my age.
"Dear god please make this car flip over." I groaned, the entire car ride went with Klaus just teasing me about Kol. I was beyond relieved when he dropped me off at my house. I jumped out the car and slammed my front door. I took a quick shower to clean off the dried blood and washed my hair. I got dressed in some pajamas and sat down in Bonnie's room, she was still out and I needed my sister.
I stared at Kol's contact on my phone, I did a good job not worrying about him all day but now that I was alone again. Rudy hopped up into the bed beside me and put his head in my lap.
"Should I call Kol, Rudes?" I asked the dog, he stared up at me a tilted his head he suddenly started wigging and trying to lick my chin."I guess that's a yes." I giggled and unblocked his number. I took a deep breath and called him.
"Darling, I was beginning to think you died." Kol purred almost immediately, I hate my life. I hate him. I hate everybody. I couldn't stop the stupid doofy smile that spread on my face.
"Your Mother is dead."
"Again? Pity she isn't immortal like the rest of us." Kol said nonchalantly, to harbor that much hate for the person who created him was that astonishing to me.
"Yup. Hopefully she stays that way." I shrugged scratching behind Rudy's ears."Do you plan on coming back any time soon?"
"Why do you miss me Little witch?"
"No! I was just asking." I blushed again, I probably looked like a tomato at this point." I just wanted to know that's all."
"Just say the word and I'll come." Kol replied and man was I very tempted to say it right now.
"Are you still in Denver?"
"I left after you did, my job was done." He replied, if he was disappointed I didn't beg him to come back he didn't show it."I'm somewhere a lot less boring."
"And where would that be?"
"Las Vegas." He answered, I pushed my lips together. I was too young to have fun in Vegas alone but with an Original vampire I could do anything.
"Are you interested in a plus one?"
"You do miss me." He replied, I knew he was cheesing hard right now too. If I'm going to experience my first world wind romance I might as well just go ahead and enjoy myself.
"Maybe, I've got to do some stuff here first." I replied trying not to sound too eager."But give me a few days."
"Whatever you want."
We hung up and I leaned back in Bonnie's bed. I had a dopey grin on my face. I knew it was a horrible idea but Kol Mikealson was an experience I couldn't stay away from.
"The sex must be bomb." Bonnie commented from the doorway, Jamie was standing beside her and my entire face turned red. She was probably standing there the entire time knowing her.
"Look at her face." Jamie teased, I snatched a pillow off Bonnie's bed and beamed it at them but Jamie caught it. Rudy jumped down from the bed and jumped all over Bonnie.
"Bite her ankle." I taunted, Bonnie scooped the dog up and she and Rudy sat down on the bed beside me. Bonnie looked upset. "Are you okay?"
"Alicia, they needed you to leave because Klaus was with you. But Alaric is dying." Bonnie said, I blinked at her. Alaric seemed fine when we left. Hell he saved my life.
"How?" I asked confused.
"Esther tried to turn him and he didn't want to complete the transition." Bonnie explained, her eyes started to water up. I wasn't close to the guy but he literally was choosing to die for us. I admired it.
I leaned over and pulled Bonnie into a hug, after a few seconds Jamie joined in. Bonnie ended up crying herself to sleep. Jamie slept in the bed with her much to my protest. I headed back to my room with Rudy in tow. The thought of going to sleep was the furthest thing on my mind.
She tried to make Alaric a weapon and failed is what Elena claimed happened but I take it if Alaric completes the transition then it wouldn't be a failure.. Esther literally came back to life to torment her kids once. What made her so sure she wouldn't do it again?
I climbed into my bed that feeling of dread never left my stomach, I just assumed it was because Esther planned on killing me but now. I wasn't sure what it meant.
Before I knew it I drifted off to sleep and I regretted it so much. The second I closed my eyes I saw her, and boy did she have plans for me.
