A/N: Hello! I know it's been several years since I've updated but I've never forgotten about this story, it quite literally has haunted me at times! I've finally gotten the inspiration to continue writing, and I can't thank those of you that have read and reviewed enough! I teared up reading some of the reviews because this story has meant so much to me, I came up with a lot of the ideas when I was a teenager and the fact that some of it still holds up means the world! Without further ado here's the next chapter. I've been writing a lot so I plan on updating every couple of weeks. I mixed the order of episodes around to better fit Mia and the Winchesters' journey. The next chapter will be the dream root episode! If anyone out there is still reading bless your hearts and thank you!
Without further ado! Here's Chapter 22!

Chapter 22: Send In The GhostFacers
RECAP: "What did you want to tell me?" Sam asked, "That needed to be said in private?"
Dean stared at Sam, "Something happened, with Mia… After she came back."
"Yeah?" Sam's eyes narrowed.
"Her eyes, they started glowing."
"That's very poetic Dean but I don't think-"
"Not like that! They opened and turned blue then started glowing like the shapeshifters' eyes in those videotapes."
Sam crossed his arms defensively, "Are you suggesting… she might be a shapeshifter?"
Dean shook his head, "It doesn't fit, that necklace she wears is pure silver, she'd be covered in burns if she even touched it, and when we found her she was holding it in her hands."
Sam and Dean stared through the doorway of Mia's room where Peter was talking to her animatedly while stroking her smiling face.
"But if she isn't a shapeshifter then…..what is she?"
Although Bobby had subtly completed every conceivable demonic and monster test on a sleeping Mia while she stayed in the hospital, nothing ever came of Dean's observations.
"I know in this line of work we don't dismiss these types of things but maybe it really just was a trick of the streetlights," Bobby had offered as an explanation. The three men decided to just let things go but keep an eye on Mia in case any other odd behaviours would be observed.
After several weeks of blood transfusions, bed rest, and a lot of begging, Mia was ready to leave Bobby's care and rejoin the brothers on their campaign. Once she received the green light, she joined the boys for an easy case. Or so called "easy case" according to Dean.
The Morton house itself was haunted by a spirit who only showed up once every 4 years on leap day to torment anyone within the house. Apparently, the story was quite a legend in the ghostly community, with such a tiny window of time in order to operate while the ghost made its appearance. Dean had begged for this hunt as a sort of bucket-list item and claimed it would be extremely easy to complete. Sam of course was more skeptical about this plan and made his thoughts aware to Mia several times.
When they first arrived at the house, Dean did a quick scan of the road and the house as they did a quick drive-by. "Looks good so far, gate's busted so I doubt we'd have to deal with any sort of security. There's no houses around here so we probably don't have to deal with neighbors."
Sam and Mia nodded.
"What time should we come back? It looks pretty good right now, I don't see any adrenaline chasers around," Mia asked.
Dean frowned, "I think it's still a little early for any spooky showings. The ghosty won't show until midnight. Let's grab some dinner, check into a motel, and come back in a couple of hours when it gets dark."
Sam glanced nervously at his brother as Dean sped away, "Are you sure that's a good idea? I mean, we have very little time as it is if we get trapped in there-"
Dean waved an arm dismissively, "Please, no one is getting trapped in there, this is an easy case, get in, find and burn the remains, and get out. Boom! House is no longer haunted, you're welcome."
Mia and Sam exchanged worried glances. Despite Dean's reassurance, it seemed like a reckless plan. They both wondered silently if Dean was back to disregarding his own safety again.
Dean and Mia sat in the motel room munching on their fast food dinner while they waited for Sam to return from the front office. Mia was reading while she ate and Dean who had struggled to find anything interesting on the television, decided to mess with Mia for entertainment. He reached into her fast food bag and took her fries. Normally this would have elicited a huge reaction from her because of her immense love of french fries but instead of a blow-up, she handed him the entire bag thinking he was hungry.
Dean frowned at this response. He'd noted that in the past few months, Mia was not as feisty as she used to be with him, in fact, he couldn't even remember the last time she'd snapped at him or even given him a dirty look. She'd been way too cheery and agreeable and he'd had enough. He decided to push her patience until she snapped. After finishing her fries Dean glanced at the book she was thumbing through and ripped it out of her hands. Her initial reaction was annoyed but it softened.
"Did you think of something?" Mia asked, attempting to justify his behaviour.
"Nope, just wanted to see what you're reading," Dean smirked.
She glanced at the three empty fast food bags, "are you still hungry? Do you want me to grab some more food?"
"Sure," Dean replied, not looking up from the book, "get me another cheeseburger combo with extra fries and extra ketchup."
Mia repeated the order under her breath and stood up to grab the keys to the Impala. The familiar jingle forced Dean to reply without looking up. "Did I say you could borrow, Baby?"
She frowned in confusion then put the keys back down on the table. "But-" she stammered then stopped. The fast food place they'd picked up dinner from was a good drive away, walking wasn't ideal but it seemed there was no other choice. She sighed and started out the door.
She'd barely made it to the end of the parking lot when she heard a voice behind her.
"What are you doing?"
She whirled around and saw Dean leaning in the motel doorway with his arms crossed looking dumbfounded.
"You were seriously going to walk all the way there and back for me?"
She nodded.
"Why?"
Mia crossed her arms and looked down sheepishly, "Because you wanted food."
Dean's stare softened, "Okay what gives, why are you being so nice to me? I was going out of my way to be a jerk to you to see what you'd do and you're offering to walk for hours just to get me fast food? Why haven't you snapped yet?"
She shifted her weight and avoided eye contact with him.
"Look, you having feelings for me is totally natural, I practically saved your life and it would be weird if you didn't, all I'm saying is-"
"Oh, shut up!" Mia exclaimed and pinched the bridge of her nose in irritation.
Dean laughed, "See, there's that's the spark I've been missing. Where've you been?"
Mia thought hard about how to respond but was saved from having to do so by Sam exiting the motel office.
Dean used this distraction to tell Sam it was time to pack up the car and head over to the house. Confused, Sam agreed but wondered what kind of conversation he'd walked into between his brother and Mia.
The three hunters arrived at the house and began unpacking the car, as they unpacked Sam took Mia aside to ask why she and Dean had been shouting across the motel parking lot at each other. She explained the conversation they'd had.
"You are being too nice to him. I don't really understand why but all you're doing is enabling him and it needs to stop, we have serious work we should be doing. We can't be stopping for every single sideshow attraction that Dean happens to see along the way. Ruby has given us a huge lead with Lilith we should be looking into that."
Mia simply shrugged. She wouldn't admit it to Sam but she was highly skeptical of any wiggle room in Dean's deal, especially as she'd overheard them saying that even if Dean gets out of his deal, Sam would die.
"Maybe there are some dumb daredevils here after all," Dean interrupted Mia's thoughts as they noticed lights flickering inside.
"How do you wanna do this? Police check?" Sam asked his brother.
He nodded, "Get your badges ready."
The three walked inside quietly. They heard voices and followed the noise down the hallway to find two young men. Dean reacted the fastest and shined the light into their eyes to stun them. Mia noticed the two were decked out in equipment, and realized they were most likely supernatural thrill seekers.
"FREEZE! Police!" Dean exclaimed showing his badge.
"Nobody moves, and we won't have any problems here," Sam joined in flashing his own badge.
"Are we-under arrest?" One of them asked in a panicked tone. He had light brown hair and was dressed in camouflage.
The other man looked slightly familiar to Mia but she couldn't quite place where she knew him from. He had reddish hair and glasses and looked as though he recognized the three hunters as well.
"I know you," said the man with glasses studying Dean's face.
"Sure you do," Dean dismissed.
"No, I know all three of you! I remember you!" He exclaimed as he looked from face to face.
Mia squinted her eyes to concentrate on his facial expressions and suddenly things clicked. She could remember the Hell House- her very first case after joining the Winchesters. The man in front of her was one of the ghost hunters they had found in the house.
"Holy shit," Sam exclaimed, mirroring Mia's exact thoughts. He explained to Dean why the guy was familiar and Dean cursed under his breath in recognition as well.
"Ed, what's going on?" the younger, unfamiliar man asked.
"They're not cops, Corbett. Don't worry, buddy." Ed reassured his partner.
Mia raised an eyebrow, "Wait, didn't you have a different partner last time? Is he here too?"
"Yep," Ed replied, "he's off with the rest of our team working to catch some ghosts for our reality show. We're going to be the first people to ever spend the night here at the Morton House."
Dean groaned and Sam sighed in exasperation.
"Do you guys have a death wish?" Sam finally uttered.
"You also know you're not the first ones to spend the night, right?" Mia clarified.
Ed frowned in confusion, "No, we've researched there were accounts of people staying the night on the leap year. No one has been brave enough to-"
"It's not bravery you idiot, the reason you haven't heard about anyone spending the night isn't that it's never been done, it's because no one has survived the night," Dean hissed in annoyance.
Ed stared in disbelief, before he could retort Sam cut him off and explained every different missing persons cases all linked with the house he'd combed through in preparation for this case.
"You need to get your team and get out of here, there isn't much time," Sam urged worriedly, "starting at midnight every single one of your friends is going to die."
Just then, three others came sprinting and screaming down the main staircase of the house into the living room.
"WE GOT ONE, WE GOT ONE!" One of them shrieked.
Just like Ed and Corbett, the two men and one woman were decked out in surveillance gear.
"We got a full-body apparition, you have to see this," the woman exclaimed thrusting a video camera into Ed's hands.
Suddenly the three of them noticed Sam, Dean, and Mia. Ed's partner Harry eyed them up and down. "Aren't those the assholes from Texas?"
He suddenly noticed Mia and stared angrily, "You gave me a fake number!"
She winced, "Listen, I'm sorry about that but seriously, we all need to get out of here, there's not much time left we-"
"Whatever, listen, Ed, check this out!" Harry exclaimed, starting the video camera.
The seven of them watched the small screen light up, in an empty room a man appeared in some mid-century suit, pleaded for his life then was riddled with bullets, collapsed, and then vanished into thin air.
Sam and Dean exchanged confused looks and backed away from the group that was still excitedly discussing the footage they had found. Mia followed the brothers away.
"That's definitely not what I was expecting," Dean muttered with disappointment in his voice.
"Maybe we were off with this one, it's just a death echo," Sam dismissed.
Mia cocked her head at the boys in confusion, she couldn't remember having heard that term before. Sam sensed her confusion and responded before she could ask.
"A death echo is like a residual haunting, it's stuck in a loop replaying an event over and over, for this guy, unfortunately, he's reliving how he died. But this doesn't make a lot of sense, usually, these echoes are found where people died and there are no accounts of anyone getting shot in this house."
Mia was startled when she went to turn around and noticed the little group had followed her over to the brothers and were listening intently to Sam's explanation.
"Can these echoes interact with people?" Mia asked, "Is this the ghost that's been killing people?"
Dean shook his head returning from pacing the room. "They're about as dangerous as a horror movie, but if this echo isn't responsible then something else is, something way more deadly, we need to get out of here."
Sam exclaimed, "Let's go, guys, we really need to pack it up and get out of here!"
"Yeah! How about some ice creams, on us?" Dean joked.
The brothers pushed into the group herding them towards the front door of the house despite their many, many protests.
"Wait! Wait!" Ed exclaimed pushing out of the group, "Where's Corbett?"
The group looked around and realized there were only six of them standing in the room.
"We can't leave him behind!"
Suddenly there was an ear-piercing scream emanating from the second floor.
"Corbett!" the ghost-hunting group exclaimed and sprinted up the stairs despite Sam, Dean, and Mia's protests. The three hunters reluctantly chased after the group, following them into a room on the second floor.
"Corbett!" The four GhostFacers cried out helplessly, "Come back!"
Corbett's cries faded to nothing. Sam sadly put a hand on Ed's shoulder, "I'm so sorry, but he's… he's not coming back. We need to get you guys out of here to a safe place before someone else gets taken too."
"We can't just leave him!"
"Listen, we just need to think of a plan, but first let's get out of here," Dean responded softly nudging the group towards the exit.
The group sadly headed down the stairs with cries of protest. Mia walked over to the front door to let everyone out and found it was seemingly locked from the inside.
"Sam!" She called with a slight panic in her voice, "Um….what's happening?"
Sam immediately ran to her side and attempted to kick the door down but it was no use. He tried the nearby window and found it was locked as well.
He frowned, "Mia, what time is it?"
Mia looked up with fear on her face, "It's five minutes past midnight."
Dean, who was at the back of the group, made his way to his brother and Mia. "What's going on? It's past midnight already?"
Sam sighed, "Yep, you happy Dean? Once again you've put us in danger. We could have had two extra months but now we're all going to die, tonight."
"We're going to die?" Harry exclaimed having overheard Sam, the rest of the group huddled around Sam with panicked cries.
Dean sighed angrily, "Listen, this ghost we're dealing with is not just a death echo, he's bad news and he's got us locked in here. We need to stay together, or he's going to pick us off one by one just like he did with your friend."
Suddenly, one of the cameras began to emit a loud static noise.
"What's going on, Spruce?" Ed asked his friend who was holding the video camera and had been taping everything.
"The camera is on the fritz," he replied, "Maggie, what's the EMF reading?"
"It's spiking," she responded with panic in her voice, "something's coming!"
"Everyone stay close!" Sam exclaimed, forcing everyone to squeeze together in the center of the living room.
Mia who was tightly pressed against the brothers noticed Maggie and Harry squeeze each other's hands and jumped as she felt Dean's arms wrapped around hers tightly. She realized at that moment that the reason he was holding her so tightly was because he still felt guilty about what had happened to her during their last case. She squeezed his hand as if to reassure him not to worry about her but he continued shielding her as much as he could. Her thoughts were interrupted when to their left an apparition appeared. Everyone jumped in surprise.
"Is that the same one as before?" Sam asked.
"No," replied Spruce, "the other guy was dressed differently."
"Two death echoes in the same house?" Dean muttered in confusion. He stepped out of the circle and jumped up and down in front of the specter, waving his arms and yelling.
"What is he doing?" Maggie asked in confusion. Mia was grateful she'd asked because she wasn't too familiar with death echoes herself.
Sam replied, "Sometimes if you can shock a death echo you can scare it out of the cycle and get it to move on, but usually you need a relationship with the ghost to do it."
Suddenly, there was the loud sound of a truck horn and the ghostly figure flew backward as if he'd been struck by an imaginary 18-wheeler. The group was silent for a couple of minutes in shock.
After a few moments of stunned silence, Dean turned to his brother. "This doesn't make any sense! There weren't any records of anyone getting shot in this house let alone getting hit by a Mack truck!"
Sam shook his head, "There must be something we're missing here, we need to look around."
They decided to venture further into the house until they found what looked like an abandoned office. While the GhostFacer group continued to look for Corbett, the three hunters made the discovery that the last owner of the house had worked for several years as a custodian of a local hospital and had received an award in the 1960s. As well, they found cold war rations and made a gruesome finding that there were toe tags with files associated with victims who had died in the same ways as the death echoes they'd encountered.
"That explains the death echoes," Sam muttered in disgust, "their bodies must be somewhere in the house. That's why we keep seeing them."
"Wait, what?" Spruce asked, bringing his camera closer to the hunters.
Dean looked into the camera, "The last owner of the house brought bodies home from the morgue, for company, and they're still here."
"EWWWW! That's nasty!" Chorused Ed and Harry nearby, having overheard.
"Uh, guys?" Maggie called from the other room, "The camera is freaking out again."
They rushed to her and could hear someone's EMF reader spiking.
"Something's coming through again," Dean advised, "everyone stay close."
Mia, who was closest to Dean and Sam, held onto Dean's hand and Sam's jacket sleeve. This time around she didn't mind Dean's arms around her so tightly, she felt safe and another feeling she didn't want to examine. As they huddled, she could feel the soft flannel of Sam's cuff between her fingers one moment and then the next nothing but cold air.
"Sam!" She cried out, whipping her head around. The younger Winchester had vanished.
Dean glanced around the room in a panic as well, "Sammy!" He cried out noticing Sam's dropped flashlight on the ground where he'd been standing.
Mia took off into the other room with Dean hot on her heels, they cried out for Sam but it it was futile, he was gone, vanished to the same place Corbett had been taken. Mia felt despair building in her throat. Sam didn't even want to come to this place, and neither had she, they both agreed ultimately to appease Dean. Now Sam was gone.
Dean returned to the living room just in time to break up a fight between Ed and Harry. "What the hell is going on?" He cried out.
"He was making out with my sister!" Cried Ed angrily while Harry shied away.
"Who gives a crap? We need to figure this out or my brother and you're friend are toast. We need to find where he's keeping them."
Mia returned, "This guy was a cold war crazy, he was living off of rations, and his desk had every air raid pamphlet available. He's probably got a panic room shelter type of thing."
Dean's head snapped up, "That's gotta be it, we need to check the basement."
The group ran to the door under the stairs, Mia, Dean, and Spruce made it through before the door slammed.
"Whoa! Who shut the door?!" Harry exclaimed.
"The ghost did," Dean answered worriedly, "we must be getting close. Listen, in my duffel bag there's a container of salt, make a circle and get inside of it."
There was a pause.
"Get inside the duffel?" Harry asked in confusion.
"INSIDE THE CIRCLE OF SALT!" Mia screamed in frustration before Dean could chime in.
He gave Mia a surprised glance, he couldn't remember the last time he'd seen her so fired up. He missed how red her cheeks would get when she was angry.
Mia caught herself and responded in a more level tone, "Just make a circle of salt around you and whatever you do, don't step outside of it. The salt will protect you."
"Salt, yeah, okay," came Ed's skeptical response through the door but they could hear the group pick up the bag and move away.
"What was that about?" Dean asked with an almost amused expression.
"What?" Mia shrugged, "they were being idiots."
"No that was something else, you've been acting off for the past few months, ever since you found out about what's going to happen to me. What gives?"
Mia refused to meet his gaze as they descended the staircase, "I don't know what you're talking about."
"You've been ridiculously nice to me. Frankly, a little over the top, and I just can't put my finger on why you've been treating me like that."
Mia stopped and whirled around, "What do you want me to say?" Her voice cracked slightly. "That you drive me absolutely crazy and you say and do the most unhinged things, and I keep saying yes to all your stupid plans, and bucket list items because I want to make you happy, and give you the best last few months because I need to distract myself from the fact that…" Mia's eyes watered, "that I can't stand the thought that I'm going to have to watch you die."
Dean softened and pulled her into a hug. "Hey, we're going to get out of here, none of us is going to die today. Not me, and especially not Sammy, okay?"
She nodded.
"I don't want any special treatment. I want you to be yourself, I miss the way we used to be. I miss you driving me up the wall. Got it?" He tilted her chin up and smiled at her.
"Are you terminal?" Spruce interrupted. Mia and Dean realized this private exchange had been recorded and broke apart.
"Get out of here," Dean waved his hand angrily.
"Do you hear something?" Mia stiffened.
The three of them went silent and heard a faint sound echoing in the depths of the basement.
"Is that… music?" Spruce trained his camera back to Dean and Mia.
"It is, and it's coming from behind this cabinet," Dean ran towards a tall cabinet and pushed it away to reveal a secret door. Mia began to kick in the door while Dean prepped his gun.
The door finally gave way with Mia and Dean bursting through the door. Dean immediately noticed the spectre hovering next to Sam who was tied up in a chair and fired rock salt. The ghost vanished.
Mia ran to Sam and untied him. "I'm so glad you're okay!" She exclaimed giving him a hug and untying his binds.
"Yeah, me too!" Sam chuckled nervously, "he was getting a little too close for comfort."
Dean and Mia surveyed the room, it looked like the most depressing dinner party they'd ever seen. There were decomposed skeletons tied up at different tables all wearing the same party hat as Sam. Mia focused on the record repeatedly playing It's My Party by Lesley Gore and realized that their ghost was throwing himself a birthday party.
"Corbett," Spruce choked when he spotted his deceased friend at the party table. It was clear he'd been stabbed.
"I'm so sorry," Mia put a hand on Spruce's shoulder.
"Why would someone do this?" Spruce exclaimed in anguish.
"Loneliness," responded Sam who was leaning on Dean, "he didn't take the bodies from the morgue to 'play,' he didn't have any friends, he brought them home because he wanted to celebrate his birthday with friends. Then he locked them in his safe and OD'ed."
"How do you know all of this?" Dean stared in surprise at his brother.
"He told me. As I said, the guy is really lonely. Every year on his birthday he takes people, kills them so they'll join his party, just like he did to Corbett and tried to do to me."
They walked out of the bomb shelter and up the stairs to the basement door. It was still sealed shut. Dean and Mia took turns kicking at the door while Sam, who was a little woozy from being unconscious, leaned on Spruce.
"Are you seriously still filming?" Sam remarked.
"It makes him feel better, don't ask," Dean retorted on Spruce's behalf.
Spruce screamed when suddenly the ghost appeared and threw him across the room. Sam fired rock salt at the ghost and it disappeared.
"You okay?" Sam offered a hand to Spruce to help him up. Mia and Dean stood behind Sam.
"Watch out!" Spruce exclaimed when the ghost reappeared behind Mia and Dean. The ghost reached for Dean but Mia jumped in his path and was thrown into the wall behind her. Sam and Dean charged the ghost with their rock salt guns but the ghost was quicker and threw them into Mia who was pinned against the wall.
The ghost turned towards Spruce. Suddenly, there was a flash of light and the ghost of Corbett appeared.
"Corbett!" Spruce cried. His ghostly friend turned and charged the ghost. They vanished in a brighter light and the basement door unlocked.
"Is everyone alright?" Sam asked checking on the rest of the group.
Mia clutched at her head, now she too felt a little woozy. Dean lifted her up from where she'd sank onto the floor. "You're bleeding," he remarked gently placing a hand on the side of her head. "It's just a little cut, though, I think you'll live this time."
Mia smiled softly back. She felt a stirring in her stomach that had nothing to do with food and very much to do with the way Dean was holding onto her and staring into her eyes. She stepped back in surprise. What's up with me today? She wondered to herself.
The hunters reunited with the GhostFacers and found out that Ed had taken Corbett out of his death echo and gotten him to save the group downstairs. They discussed everything that had happened and mourned Corbett as a group. They exchanged numbers, real ones, this time, and went their separate ways.
"You guys are really cute together," Mia told Maggie and Harry.
Maggie and Harry smiled, "Thanks, you guys are too." Maggie replied, gesturing to Dean who was talking to Spruce behind them.
"Oh we're not dating, we're just friends!" Mia laughed and Maggie shrugged.
"Sure, but I saw the way he was holding onto you, I think he has feelings for you."
The seven of them went their separate ways but got a phone call the next day from Ed that the footage had been edited into a pilot episode that was ready to be watched by the group so Sam, Mia, and Dean trekked out to the GhostFacer headquarters/garage.
Mia noticed that Maggie might have been right, for almost the entire hunt Dean was watching out for her and anytime a ghost appeared he held onto her tightly. She didn't know what to do with this information and just blushed.
"This is a great show you've guys got here," Dean shrugged.
"Yeah, you really managed to capture great footage while exploiting Corbett's death," Sam replied.
"I think this has potential!" Mia chirped, all the while knowing that the boys were erasing the footage as they spoke.
They said their goodbyes and Dean sighed as they walked to the Impala, "It's too bad, they had a really great show there."
"Yeah but the world isn't ready for the GhostFacers," Sam nodded.
"Or us," Mia added, "what should our name be?"
The brothers stared at her incredulously.
"What?! We should have a name! Like a band or something! Rescue Hunters? Rock Salters?"
"You're an idiot," Dean replied.
"Takes one to know one." She responded coolly.
Dean smiled up at the sky. Finally, there was balance in the universe again.
Mia sat in the backseat of the Impala and reflected on the video they'd watched. Maybe Peter had been right too. She reflected back to her final days in the hospital and their painful breakup.
"With all of your hospital visits, I'm beginning to think I'm getting a Jell-O addiction," Dean teased. He sat on the edge of Mia's bed inhaling 3 cups of strawberry jello at the same time.
"One of those was for me, you know? The person on bedrest," Mia joked.
Dean nodded, "I'll grab 3 more for me, and maybe I won't eat the last one for you," Dean winked as he left the room to return to the cafeteria.
Mia smiled and laughed at his retreating figure. Peter stepped out from behind the curtain beside her, having heard the exchange.
"Mia," he started, "I think you are absolutely lovely but I also think it might be a good idea to end things before they get more serious."
Her face fell, "What? Why?"
Peter sat down beside her. "I'm going overseas, and it'll be hard to stay in touch and…."
"And?"
"And I think you might have some feelings to explore with Dean," Peter added.
Mia laughed, "Are you serious? I do not have feelings for Dean, he's just like family to me. He's an idiot."
Peter cocked his head, "Oh really, then why is it I've never seen you smile as big as you do when he's in the room? Or laugh as hard at my jokes?"
She fiddled with the edge of her blanket, "I'm just going to miss him, I'm trying to treasure every interaction we have."
"I think there's more to it than that. And I think he might feel the same. He hasn't left the hospital since you were admitted, you've gotta admit that's a sign of devotion."
Mia shook her head, "He'd do the same if Sam was in my position, it's just who he is."
"Perhaps, but he only has a few months left, Mia. I think if you see anything there you should be able to explore it without feeling guilt or fear, and maybe after you've made peace with his passing you can look me up?"
Mia stared at him quizzically. Peter placed a kiss on her forehead and whispered goodbye.
