Chapter 10 A Fiery Assault

Judy scrolled through her phone as she sat at her desk. Her nose twitched when she saw on MuzzleBook that her parents were going to come visit Zootopia sometime soon. That would be fun...not. Sure, Judy loved her parents; she loved them to no end. But….they could be a bit….overbearing.

Guess I'm gonna have to break out the ear muffs if they want to stay with me, she thought. It would be the easiest way to maintain her sanity. Her parents were known for running their mouths and downplaying anyone who didn't fit into their personal picture for how life was supposed to be. They were ultimately well meaning, but man could they be a handful. Of course, if they didn't want to stay with her, in her microscopic apartment, then she supposed that she had nothing to worry about in the end.

"Hey, Carrots."

Judy looked up and sniffed as Nick leaned his elbow against her desk, smiling like he had just robbed a bank. Of course he had to call her Carrots. Of. Fluffing. Course.

"What is it this time; what do you want?"

"Oh, not much," Nick said with a sly smile. "I just thought we could talk a little, maybe have a little debate or throw around one or two expletives. You know, just like old times."

Judy rolled her eyes and snickered. "Uh, need I remind you that you were the one who threw around those expletives?"

Nick shrugged nonchalantly. "Because I'm a true gentleman. Why else would I do it?"

Judy snickered and covered her mouth with her hand. Before she knew it, she was laughing up a storm. She laughed so hard, in fact, that she dropped her phone on the floor. She picked it up, only to see that there was a new crack in the screen.

"Darn it, Nick, look what you made me do!"

Nick looked at the broken screen and smiled goofily. "Wow. I'm so funny that I even crack the phone up."

Judy's face fell. "Har har har. You're so funny."

"Mmm. Yeah." Nick then put on a serious expression. "If you want, I can buy you a new one."

Judy sighed and shook her head. "No, that's okay." She put the phone face down on her desk. "How's the prisoner?"

Nick adorned an apprehensive expression. "They're...okay, I suppose. I mean, they've just spent the first few minutes of questioning bawling her eyes out."

Judy nodded. It must have been the first time this particular prisoner has been arrested.

"Okay. Did you at least learn where she's from? What district?"

Nick shook his head. "Nope. Sorry." He stuffed his hands in his pockets. "Did learn her name though. Said her name was apparently Wendy."

Judy nodded. Wendy. She actually had a sister named Wendy. Sure, she and her weren't particularly close. But then again, when one has over 800 siblings, it's difficult to build a special relationship with every single one of them. Judy didn't even keep in touch with any of them, as horrible of a sister as that made her sound.

"Okay." She leaned back in her chair. "Well, at least you learned as much as you could, given the circumstances."

"Yeah." Nick scratched the back of his head. "I do honestly wonder where she's from. She obviously isn't from Zootopia. Or at least, not this district."

"Yeah. Obviously," Judy snickered. She stood up. "Well, we'll find out eventually. Right now, we need to…."

Suddenly, an explosion occurred near the entrance to the police station, causing Judy's ears to ring. She looked over in fright and saw that the two double doors had been blown clean off. A strange creature with bushy blue hair and a flowing royal blue cape floated into the station.

"WHAT THE….?" Nick yelled.

Judy got out her gun from its holder on her belt. "Don't worry, Nick. I'll take care of this." With her gun gripped in both hands she rushed toward the creature. She aimed and shot, but they floated out of the way. Judy hopped onto Clawhauser's desk and shot at him as he flew through the air.

"Come on, come on!" She muttered. Just as she said that, her gun ran out of amo. "Crap."

The creature floated through the station. "Wendy!" They called out with a very masculine sounding voice. "Wendy, where are you?"

Judy's heart skipped a beat. "He's after the prisoner!"

With that, she ran after him, with Nick following close behind her. People working in the station screamed when they saw the strange blue creature floating down the hall. His eyes grazed over the lot, taking them in.

"Wendy!" he cried out. Suddenly, he stopped in front of the cell door and smiled. "Wendy! There you are!"

The next thing he did was something that Judy wasn't likely to forget anytime soon. He held out his hand, which was surrounded by a blue light. The door glowed the same color. Before long, the door was ripped clean off of its hinges, allowing the creature to enter the cell.

Judy gawked. "Nick…" she pointed toward the door. "Did...did you see that?"

Nick also gawked. "He just...he just used telekinesis!"

Judy nodded, still recovering from the shock. She quickly pulled out her tazer and rushed toward the now doorless cell. She held up the taser as the cloaked, super powered man stood over Wendy.

"STEP AWAY FROM THE PRISONER!"

Both Wendy and her rescuer stared at Judy. Wendy turned her frightened face up to him. "Ludwig, what do we do?"

The rescuer, now called Ludwig, looked at the cell wall. "We bolt!" With that, he aimed a humongous fireball at the wall. When it collided, the wall collapsed. Judy coughed as dust overtook her lungs. She used her hand to sway the dust away. When she finally got her breathing under control, she saw that Wendy and Ludwig were gone. She stepped into the cell, but saw no trace of them in the city outside.

"Drat!" Nick exclaimed. "They got away!"

Judy grit her teeth and turned around. "They won't get away that easily." She pointed at her partner. "Nick, check the traffic cams; see where they ran off to!"

Nick nodded and ran out of the cell. Judy followed close behind, all while feeling frustration build at her quickly escalating situation.

This is not how I wanted to start my Friday.
