Chapter 19: Son of Anubis

Ororo's bronze skin was smooth and radiant that early morning as she prepped her body with an assortment of oils. Her hands ran up and down her arms in a practiced dance. The sun had yet to fully rise in the sky leaving her room softened by the gentle light of her lanterns. Her silk blankets and soft pillows had grown cold because of her absence and was laid aside messily. The darkness crept in the corners of her room playing against the light flickering on the walls. A single letter sat to her side next to the bottles of scented elixirs for her skin. Rin slept soundly back in her own room with Ororo's quarter's right across from her bedroom to watch after her. Ororo sat on her soft futon in a simple white cotton dress with nothing adorning her body. Her hair was piled up in a messy bun on her head. Her mind wondered to many things that early morning. A knowing smile graced her lips at the present she would gift to Lord Sesshomaru later. A fruit had borne of her labor. Her end of the bargain of their shared agreement between her and the Inu King was met.

A smile graced her plump nearly reddish lips. Her fingers remembered the routine of her body care rituals. However, every so often her hands would stray and follow the ghostly path left behind by Sesshomaru's clawed ones along her arms. She managed to find sleep that night only to be woken up by a servant demanding that she prepare herself for a very early morning tea with Lord Sesshomaru. Of course, she thought he had completely lost it until she was given a note for her eyes only stating the reason. Today would be a special day for numerous occurrences and so she decided to add her agenda item to the morning tea session. The first being that it would be the first time she would meet the reigning heads of the neighboring kingdoms. Sesshomaru had decided to attend the meeting after all. The second would possibly be the war she would engage in. She wanted to look her absolute best for both should things take a turn for the worst at this meeting. She looked onto the cushions along the futon to see her royal dress and supreme headdress rest gently on the bed next to her sharpened khopesh blades and other accessories.

Her hands hugged her midsection, and she leaned backwards a bit to stare at the high ceiling. Even now she could feel the small thin wisps of silk strands sliding against her shoulders. The slow creep of calloused fingers from holding the hilt of a blade move against her back and hips. The electricity tingled along her flesh from the challenge before her in the private onsen. Ororo was impressed that even in such a heated moment he would stand by his strong morals and ethics to not take from her. Or event try to encourage her onwards. Many men had been tested and like paper to a flame they had burned to ash. Many men could be easily manipulated especially when their egos were stroked. But, this was a different beast. Sesshomaru was a different beast altogether.

Her words were true when she told Lord Sesshomaru that he deserved better. That they both deserved so much more than a chaste kiss or a passing affair in some bathing chamber with work so close on the horizon. While she told him of the expectation, she also embedded a promise to revisit the situation later. When they had the time of infinite worlds and space to explore the other to their hearts desire. But for now, they needed to focus. Her country was in danger and until that hazard was sorted then no peace or pleasure could be afforded.

Ororo had seen the devastation and felt the pain of her people in her nightly visions as they ran for their lives from the silver Inu King. She still stood in her truth that he would be eliminated immediately if it meant his life over her people. She had an obligation to perform and curiosity along with bodily desires would be set aside for another day. Ororo nodded to herself and slowly said her prayers for her people and family. In moments like these, she would have loved to visit the temple of Ra and seek knowledge from her dedication. There was always something peaceful about going to Ra's temple. In those times, she was able to find tranquility that strengthened her entire being.

Ororo needed all that strength for this day. Today would be a day of great negotiations and judgements with the other kings and she did not want any distractions. While this may be an affair for Lord Sesshomaru, the outcomes would influence the repercussions for her lands. If Sesshomaru's lands was threatened by the other Lords, he would no doubt fight for what belonged to him. And if whoever the spell castor of their foe finds out, they would surely use the situation for their advantage and seek control over the Lord. Thus, her vision would come to pass, and they would fight. Ororo hoped to also find a way to seek the monks that used such magic. This meeting would surely bring up good intel. She above all needed to find these monks that called upon the wicked in the name of their God and kill them quickly. That was the ultimate goal. While she and Lord Sesshomaru had many answers they now had gain more in questions.

What purpose could possession of demons and humans could bring to monks who based their entire religion on supposedly higher spirituality?

Why attack those specific villages? Why skip around the others?

Why in such a wide circle were they attacking?

Why is it that Prince Inuyasha and his mate's village sat in the center of it all?

All these questions plagued her considerably. She just couldn't fathom the reason. Inuyasha and the rest claimed that they had nothing there to warrant the attacks. And she believed them not feeling anything worth fighting over. They were just a countryside village with their coin to be made from agriculture and spiritual well-being. Who would send possessed demons to attack them and why? Ororo sighed heavily staring into the grain on the tatami floors outstretched before her. People here in Japan were filled with riddles never speaking their minds truly but finding a way to dance around their issues. It even carried down to their culture and warring tactics which she found an extreme waste of time and resources. Instead, she was being led on a chase by men that lacked the testicles to face their foes head on but instead relied on dark magic to do their bidding.

Pathetic.

Which brought her to her current task at hand. A small beetle scurried from underneath her door and crawled along her bedding to get to her. Its shiny hard emerald, green body wiggled a bit in its haste. Her palm was held out as her beetle crawled over her soft moisturized hands doing a dance and whispering about their troublesome resident still lurking in the house. Her blue eyes hardened into glaciers staring at the door focusing on her beloved beetle that still rest in the body of the one that was a traitor to the West. The symptoms caused most likely by her curse had worsened by now. This meant there was no place her victim could hide in this castle that people wouldn't have noticed. Her beloved friend Hiromi had mentioned to her about a demoness that had come under a strange illness unlike anything she had ever seen. She had asked Hiromi to explain herself in which she did giving a description that was quite gruesome. By the loud screams every time her beloved beetle roamed inside her flesh, she had concluded it was indeed a woman.

Ororo took a stand allowing her long white dress to fall over the curves of her body. She held her hands up and began to pray that the heavens stand with her and that justice be swift. Ororo's hands came down as a knock came to her door.

"The Lord is ready for morning tea, Empress."

Her eyes opened and immediately she focused on his aura. Ororo walked to the door and slid it open quietly as to not disturb anyone. The servant that relayed the message, bowed before her. "Excellent and send for the woman who's skin has mutated and smells like death. I wish for her assistance." She stated as the woman seemed appalled at having a sickly hand aiding them for tea that morning. However, she knew not to argue back as something set inside her instincts to avoid the issue. She bowed to the bronze queen and quickly backed away pulling her blue working yakuta firmly around her.

Ororo looked in front of Rin's door to see two guards standing there diligently among the candles along the wall. Their eyes were dark and unwavering. It was still very early and the house was just now awakening from what she could hear. Little sounds of feet hitting the floors and things being carried echoed from somewhere in the halls. She looked down at the side of the two guards to see her own two jackal-human statues. She nodded to them confusing the guards. She looked back to the demon soldiers and spoke in a whisper. "Please find the General and bring him to the tearoom near the Lord's private lotus garden. This morning, we will reveal the rat in this house." One solider immediately left to do her bidding leaving the other to stand at Rin's door watching over the little girl protectively. She nodded to him and went forward listening to her little beetle beauties whisper throughout the halls of the Inu King.

She wore a simple gown not sure of how the morning would go. She had decided to not bring her weapons with her due to the circumstances that this threat that she had caught needed to be punished by the ruling Lord. This she knew had to be done this way. If she had done the punishment it would show as a sign of weakness or the sharing of the throne which he had made very clear was not the case. He had come back to his castle once his lands were secure to make sure now that everyone inside knew who was in charge. It was interesting to see the behavior change among the people that worked inside. When she first came here everyone was so rigid and no one dare be in the halls when Lord was walking about the grounds. Then when she had taken over, she was met with quite some resistance that changed into a friendly atmosphere especially after she had electrocuted that fool of an advisor who thought to undermine her. Now that Lord Sesshomaru had returned, everyone was rigid again staying out of his way. They did however stay close to her presence as if she would shield them from his wrathful aura which weighed heavier than any fog she could conjure at the moment. And he had every right to be.

Ororo strolled gracefully through the hallways in an increasingly growing cold mood, infuriated that someone would be so cowardly to attack a child especially one that had no power. Rin didn't even have any hold on the throne for that matter. Rin was simply a very sweet little girl seemingly a pet in the big house of great demons. No doubt someone did this because of jealousy or they thought to attack what might have been a weakness of Sesshomaru's. How gravely mistaken they had been. Ororo came to an intricate shoji door and stepped forward as the doors were opened for her by two guards on the outside. She thanked Ra that it wasn't her beloved tearoom that sat open to the lotus and florae gardens. This one like its sister sat open to the elements but was incased by a wooden fence. Even through the thin material of the door she could see the small light coming from the rays peaking over the earth. She picked up the corner of her dress and walked inside to see Sesshomaru sitting on the tatami mat in the dark of the still early morning light listening to the sound of cicadas outside the porch area. It smelt of wood and grass inside the room from the gentle breeze that blew inside. His body was dressed in simple black robes sitting regally and stoic as ever neither moving nor bowing his head to greet her. A small wooden table was set before them with empty teacups and chop sticks laid out for morning tea. The room itself was dark with the fire extinguished inside the light fixtures on the walls. His aura felt cold upon her skin in contrast to the heat he had given the previous night. She carefully walked into the room taking a seat on the opposite side away from him slightly regretting not bringing her khopesh weapons as this demon before her looked absolutely lethal with his golden eyes staring out into the gardens. His demeanor put her on edge and the seriousness of the situation settled in her bosom.

"I see you have received my notes last night detailing the account of your house." She stated brushing her long fluffy white hair on the side of her thin shoulder. Her blue eyes stared into his hardened ones watching as he continued to stare out into his garden.

Sesshomaru did not respond but simply sat waiting for the person to reveal themselves to his eyes. He had indeed returned to his office having not been able to find sleep after their onsen engagement, to see the account on Rin's life during his time away. Even now the hairs on his arms were raised. Not because there was reason to be concerned but, that there was reason to pause. Soon as he read her words, he sent a servant to prepare for this meeting so he could see the face that dare try to harm what was his. Sesshomaru had no title for the little girl as she really had no significance to his reign. She was simply his and no explanation needed to be given. The little girl showed more loyalty to him then even most demons who he had known for much of his demonic childhood. For someone to target her was unforgivable and would be taught a lesson. Even now his eyes stayed targeted on the rising sun to stop the red overlay he could see bleeding in the corner of his eyes. He would kill whoever just to satisfy the immediate urge to slaughter. Bakusaiga and Tenseiga sat next to his hip on his right side in preparation of use as he would not allow death to claim his foe just yet.

They both sat in silence waiting patiently for service to arrive. Sesshomaru's nose twitched as a rather foul stench attacked his nose from afar. Sickness crept along the walls heavily spreading the vulgar scent in the air around him. Ororo's honeyed rain scent and that of nature's pine was being overpowered by the smell of tainted flesh creeping up the hallway towards them. Ororo nodded to him confirming the arrival of his traitor. He turned his head and looked at Ororo as she stared back at him reflecting his gaze. The door to their side opened rather loudly and the smell intensified in such a way that the guard outside fought the urge to gag.

Sesshomaru looked to see a young demoness female with glossy dark orange eyes and thin black hair shake holding a freshly brewed teapot in one hand and a tray of small cookies in the other. Around her glossy eyes was sickly green and yellow mucous that crusted over the edges of her eyes to seal them shut. Her once pale skin looked ghastly and covered in mauve boils and red jagged patches all over from her hands to her face. Sweat glistened on her forehead indicating that her ailment was more than just vanity. Her thin hair clung to her forehead and the sides of her cheeks. There was abnormal discoloration in various places and lines from where she obviously had scratched herself from the itchy symptoms of her illness. The demoness body was thin and bony in the dark shadows of the tearoom. Her blue yakuta seemed to be fixed tightly to her body and had sleeves given the end of summer weather. Blotches of her scalp were seen as she set the tray down. Bald spots revealed themselves showing that her hair had fallen out. Even her scalp showed patches of boils and red spots.

Sesshomaru looked to Ororo. Her power had done this to a demoness. He could smell the woman literally dying and decaying before him. This disturbed him greatly as she was able to wage war on someone and not even need to go to battle to do it. He looked at the demoness taking in her visage before glancing over the Ororo. Could she do this on a larger scale? She did claim to have come with an army which he hadn't seen yet to verify. Could she mean this? He pushed the thought away for later contemplation as he focused with a deathly glare on the demoness preparing tea.

She set the teapot on the table with shaking hands keeping her eyes down. Her chest rattled from the illness that invaded her body with each inhale. The porcelain china rattled upon touching the wooden surface of the table and the sound of the black tea inside sloshing around inside the pot was heard. Shame and humiliation rolled off of her in waves along with a tiredness that sat in the lines of her face.

Something inside of Ororo did not sit right about this. She thought over the attempts on Rin's life and how painfully obvious they were. A child could do better. Ororo reached out to the woman grabbing her chin in her hands doing her best to not inhale the stench. This frightened the woman, but she remained eyes down. Ororo could feel her heated flesh knowing that the fever wracked her body gravely. Ororo grasped her chin tightly to look at her and she frowned seeing the darkness in her eyes. She had seen this look. She had seen in on the miko who attempted murder upon them along the way to Prince Inuyasha's village. She had seen it on the demons possessed by the spell in which the monks were using. This woman had suffered from possession. She glanced at Sesshomaru not knowing what she could do for the woman. The illness was too far gone now. There would be no saving her. And even if she could, would he indulge to listen?

Ororo pulled her hands away from her chin thinking quickly of anything to say or do to stop what she knew was coming. It would be what any king would do regardless of the situation. Even if she told Sesshomaru about the possession she saw inside of her, it would only raise the question on how easily the servant allowed it to happen. Possession only happened if the mind, spirit, and heart of the individual was weak enough to allow the second party to take over the body. Also, they had to have a considerable amount of hatred or doubt inside of them for the spell to stay and latch on tightly. The fact that whoever did this wasn't smart enough to retract their spell leaving residue behind showed the conjurer was weak and/or knew very little about this type of magic. Regardless of the situation, this woman's fate was sealed. She looked into Sesshomaru's eyes, and he stared into hers in question.

"She suffers from possession. A desired outcome." She simply stated allowing him to make an informed decision. It was the least she could do for the poor demoness before them attempting to perform tea servicing. "There's no cure for what she has." Ororo grimly stated. She began muttering in Arabic to herself and performing a blessing over the woman hoping that maybe in death her life would weigh positive on the scale of Maat. She then opened her eyes and wiggled her finger in a circular motion. Ororo watched as the little bump wiggled from under the sleeve of her dress and pushed against the raised skin in her blotchy hands. It crawled to her the top of her veiny palms. The woman retracted her hand and bit her lips in pain. I cry of anguish escaped her from the pain. Tears started to roll down her eyes and with horror she watched as the little thing that had plagued her for weeks, broke free of her body and crawled out of her hand covered in blood and tissue. A cry rang throughout the room. She then let loose a piercing scream attempting to fall back onto her butt and swat at the bug with a strangled cry. However, it evaded her attempts and instead chose to land on the plate of cookies she had just set out and crawled over them excitedly.

Ororo looked to Sesshomaru seeing his eyes blaze red. She then looked to the woman crying on the floor begging for death and freedom of the horror she had endured. The woman gripped the sides of her head and began pulling out her hair. Snot dripped from her nose and she began coughing in pain. Ororo placed her palm over her heart. She never was one for tragedy but knew it was a tool that needed to be used. The woman chose her path and thus the consequences with it. Her fear mingled with her odor and it smelt rank. Ororo watched as Sesshomaru simply looked upon her with hatred and disgust. She knew the demoness would not be much longer in this world. "Why?" She asked the demoness sorrowfully. "What has buried you in so much hatred that you could be possessed?"

The demoness eyes were red now as she was going mad. "I-I don't know! Make it stop!" She screamed rolling up her sleeves and revealing her scars and boils she had picked until they formed open bloody wounds on her flesh that smelt of disease.

There was a flash of silver nearly blinding in sight. The woman was now hanging from her throat against the wooden wall behind her. Her feet dangled beneath her kicking and her clawed fingers scratched at Sesshomaru's hands. He said no words but simply watched her dangle in the air fighting for oxygen to fill her lungs. The demoness looked oddly happy at the turn her life had just taken. Her mouth moved to say something but it was too late. Ororo placed her hands over her mouth in surprise to see Sesshomaru's other hand strike through the bone and beating organ in her chest. Crunching bone and splattering of guts broke her whines and replaced it with silence. Her hands went limp and so dud her body. The woman stopped moving and her head immediately fell and tilted sideways. Her wide bulgy orange eyes stared lifelessly down at the floor and her mouth was slightly open.

Ororo's heart beat fast at the speed in which Sesshomaru had attacked the woman. He didn't even wait to hear what the demoness had to say. His hand came out of her chest flicking away her veins and blood vessels that twisted around his claws. Blood splattered on the tatami mat and the table. The servant's body dropped to the floor leaving blood stains on the wall and dripping where her body once was. Ororo looked away for a second to gather herself from the gore before her. The demoness's heartbeat stopped and the stench immediately increased. The illness she had inflicted on the demoness couldn't thrive on dead tissue. She placed a hand over her nose and stood up quickly.

Her head turned back to see Sesshomaru standing over the demoness's body with the little sword raised. She had never seen him use it and she wondered for what purpose would it serve. The demoness was dead. There was nothing to be gained from slicing her body up. Ororo wept internally for this demoness. Surely, she would not be accepted into the afterlife in such a state. Maybe she could embalm her or perform the full funeral services to bless her soul into passage. She reached out her hand to stop him when she stilled. His blade was encased in a blue light that felt warm and oddly pleasing to Ororo. A gentle hum filled the air that reminded her of a sea breeze that one could find on an uncharted beach. Sesshomaru swiped around the demonesses body quickly. Ororo watched in fascination as he did this wondering what else he could possibly do to the deceased. She watched as he put his weapon away in its sheath and just stared down at the demoness.

Sesshomaru's aura flexed to call in the two guards and his General. The two guards came in and immediately looked down at the body doing their best to hide their disgust. General Tomatsu came in and bowed waiting for further orders. She stared at the body feeling something odd pulse from the dead carcass. Ororo gasped to see the woman's chest move. Life bubbled to the surface and slowly the scent of death and disease dissipated. Her skin held the sickly hue but she could feel the woman healing. Her eyes were closed and the chest wound seemed to be taking up her energy to heal as it must have been the most extreme injury she suffered. She looked to Sesshomaru in disbelief. Her people studied the dead and had even liked to think they perfected it. Thousands of centuries went into her belief system founded by great demons, humans, and other beings that founded her home. Anubis, Isis, Nut, Hathor were honored demons, humans, sorcerers, etc. that were praised highly for their powers, skills, and contribution to mankind and to their country. However, not ever did she hear about any god bringing the dead to life in such a way. Coming back to life was simply unheard of except for the man believed to have risen in Jerusalem in which she had heard stories about. It was mentioned that he was the son of God or Ra or whatever name people had for the Almighty.

It was one thing to take life and even guide in the afterworld but to come back to this plane of existence…was unbelievable. There was no coming back once your life had been taken. Your life was weighed immediately upon the scales of Maat and judgment came to you on where you would go afterwards. How was this demon able to grip souls and bring them back into their bodies? Ororo could bring the dead back but it wasn't the same. They were like lifeless shells that smelt of resin and oils from embalming when she brought them back. She watched the body breath on the floor and could see the color going back into the demoness's features as her sickness inflicted by her hand began to slowly heal and vanish from her flesh. The gaping hole in her chest still showed tissue and blood pumping but no longer could see through her like a window.

She stood in shock unmoving not sure of what to do. So much power was before her that she was left speechless. If he could bring back the dead then truly he had more power than she realized and this left her uneasy. It made her question the actions before when she thought she could possibly have bested him in battle. Would he be able to bring himself back from the dead as well? Was he so powerful that life and death were merely frontiers that he could easily cross over into? Her own religious views warred inside of her and wanted to call out the act as one of sorcery or even a blessing from Ra. But she had seen it with her own eyes. He simply cut over her dead carcass and in seconds she was breathing and healing. Her eyes looked to his weapon wondering if it was his power or was it his weapons. Could he bring back anyone? Could his sword heal as well? He truly possessed an ultimate weapon or power inside of him. She thought of his Inu heritage. He had to have been a descendent of Anubis if he could do this. It made sense. Maybe coming here was in the divine plan all along. Regardless, it frightened and excited her that this demon had the ability to deny Anubis and cheat the scales for another day. Her eyes looked at the demoness's body to be certain she was alive.

Sesshomaru looked at Ororo as she stared at him with wide eyes before staring at the body on the floor. He could hear her heart beat rapidly in her chest like a drum in a field of grass for miles. His eyes were still red having very little satisfaction from the kill. He wanted to hunt but there was much to be gained from this situation and the demoness needed to be alive to take knowledge from her. He wondered what Ororo could be so shocked about. He watched as she looked across the table at the woman breathing shallowly on the floor intensely. Another guard came in with a cloth and handed it over to the other two and left. The guards wrapped her body in cloth to keep her submissive it seemed as well as to hide her body.

"Take her to the cell." He ordered. His General bowed and left following behind them. Sesshomaru then turned to Ororo as she slowly approached him with awe in her eyes. Curiosity filled him as she muttered something and daringly ran her finger hovering down the bridge of his nose and up again to his forehead. She brought her hands down and backed away to look at his weapon.

"You revived her…back to her original body." Ororo stated standing doing her best to keep her composure although everything inside of her wanted to hold ceremony for the son of Anubis. Her chin was raised as she looked upon him with a strong gaze. "It seems you are far more powerful than I realized." She stated walking pass him and out of the door. She left with as much composure as she could muster. Along the way she caught two servants and asked for them politely to clean the tearoom. They nodded and left to fulfill her request leaving her to her stroll. She rounded the corner and took off like a bat out of hell. Her bare feet beat against the floor hurriedly scaring a few patrons in the hall that moved to avoid her body. She made it to her room when she saw the guards stationed at Rin's door look at her with confusion raising their weapons to defend her. Their eyes looked behind her to see what had her in chase but saw nothing.

She slowed in front of them and grabbed one of her Anubis statues that she had placed in front of Rin's door. She ran in her room and slid the door shut behind her. Immediately she placed the statue near the window and began digging in her bag for candles, incense, and a slab of small marble with an ear engraved in it. She went to the candle burning on her wall and prayed as she lit the candle. She carried it over and set it down in front of Anubis and used the flame to light the incense. Words flowed heavy from her lips and filled her chest. She placed the incense on the small stone and lowered her body to the floor humbly. She prayed to Ra in between her reciting for Anubis thanking him for his wisdom in the afterworld and as well as power he held in her life. She retold the story and vowed that it would be carried over to her people and known of what the power of Anubis given from the hands of Ra could do. She also vowed to speak about his son. The Inu who was blessed with the power of Anubis to bring the dead to life.
