Chapter 4
Festival Night
It was a cold morning on the island. Mike was fast asleep. Sam woke up and headed to the kitchen. The maids were already working. Sam asked for some coffee, and one of the maids served him. They prepare breakfast for Adolpha.
A sudden scream scares them. Mike comes into the kitchen. He was in a good mood. Sam knew why but pretended not to. He asks Mike about his good mood. Mike saw the head maid and told them that he was just happy.
Mike asks Sam for help doing something. Sam agrees, and they both leave the kitchen. Sam and Mike go back to their room. Mike asks Sam about the plan. Sam told him how it would work. He told Mike that he needed to pretend to go to sleep early.
Mike was not sure they would believe him. Sam told them that he was upset about not being able to attend the festival. Mike told Sam that it was a smart move. Sam told Mike he would keep the head maid busy until they went to bed.
Mike thanks Sam for doing that for him. He reminds Sam about his promise to get him a big barrel of wine. Sam gets emotional. They now needed to wait until the festival later that night. Mike laughs and smiles.
In town, the adventurers were all ready. They plan to attack at night. The spy adventurer updated the group. He told them that nothing had changed and that Wolf had gone back to his regular patrol route. The glasses adventurer also said to them that were no other guards. The group looked happy.
The glasses adventurer told them to enjoy the festival until then. They will meet by the docks and move from there. One adventurer asks about the maids and the two men. The glasses adventurer told him to eliminate them if they were a threat. They agree and pick up to leave.
The adventurers take their weapons and check out of the inn. They head into town and see some food stalls cooking food. Some familiar faces greet them. The group splits to enjoy the festival.
Back at the island, Adolpha was eating her lunch. She hears the head maid talking to the maids outside the cabin. They were talking about staying inside the house that night. Adolpha had no interest until the head maid brought up Wolf's name.
Adolpha stops eating and gets close to the door. The head maid told them that she would release Wolf earlier than usual. She told them not to fear him as he walked around. The maids understood. Adolpha goes back to her seat. She hears the head maid walk past the cabin.
Adolpha goes to see that Wolf is out of his cage. The head maid hands him a sword. She then tells him something, and Wolf leaves for his patrol. The head maid sees Adolpha looking her way. The head maid heads back and passes the cabin again. She then tells Adolpha that she will be safe.
Throughout the day, Adolpha saw Wolf walking by. The maids were doing their jobs like usual. They would stare at Wolf from time to time. Adolpha felt jealous but didn't know it. Right before dinner, one maid brought some food and gave it to Wolf.
Adolpha saw that they gave him some bread too, which upset her. The maid then brings Adolpha her food. The maid opened the cabin door and saw Adolpha sitting on her bed. Adolpha gave her a mean look. The maid places the food on the table. Adolpha stares at it for some time. She then sees Wolf. Adolpha was still upset that she had eaten the bread.
Back inside the house, the head maid was tired of hearing Mike complain about his troubles. He then said that he was going to bed early. Mike winks at Sam, and he goes to their room. The head maid shakes her head. Sam apologizes and goes to see Mike.
Mike was getting ready for his date. Sam told him that he supported him. Mike put on a fine-colored suit. It barely fit him. Sam praised his look. Mike smiled and posed for Sam. Once he was ready, Sam helped Mike sneak out. They make it to the boat.
Sam helps Mike on; he then unties the rope, and Mike is on his way. The townsfolk were also heading out for the festival. Music was playing, and stalls were selling food. Some stalls sold children's toys. The town was lively.
The group of adventurers was waiting for the signal. Some were drinking while others waited patiently. It got darker, and torches were lit. More people gathered, and it became very festive. The glasses adventurer gave the signal.
Mike reached the mainland and went to see his date. The woman has short black hair. She looks to be in her thirties. The woman has a purple dress and coat for the cold. Mike presented himself in front of her. She smiles, and Mike compliments her look.
They begin their date. Mike takes her to some food stalls. They get snacks and eat while seeing the other booths. Mike made small talk with her. He bragged about working for Lord Michael. He told her about the mansion on the last island.
The woman was impressed. Mike bought her some jewelry. She was happily enjoying the date. Mike wanted to show his skills, and they went to the game booths. At a throwing game, Mike missed all the targets. He gets embarrassed and wants to try again.
Mike talks to the booth operator. He offers him money. Mike throws the balls again and hits most targets. The operator gives him one of the big prizes. Mike made quite a scene. The woman was impressed. They then head to some tables outside. They begin to drink.
The adventurers have gathered by the docks except one. After some time, the last adventurer regroups. The glasses adventurer gets mad at him. They make sure no one is looking, and they steal two boats. They hop on but notice someone walking their way.
The adventurers hide from them. An adventurer notices that he is one of the guards working on the island. Mike was limping back to the boat. His clothes were dirty and ripped. Mike gets on his boat and starts to head back. He looked sad.
The glasses adventurer wonders what happened. The adventurer that was late saw the whole thing. He told the others about the fight that had happened. The adventurer told them how when he was going to regroup; he saw Mike drinking with a woman.
"He was ordering a lot. He impressed her with money. It was cheerful until he bumped into someone. The other man was much larger than him. One would assume that he would apologize, right."
He continued telling them that Mike insulted the man, and they got into a fight. From what they could tell, Mike lost the fight. The adventurer told them his date had left, and he ran after her. He laughs when he sees her slap him. Another adventurer said that he probably said something stupid. Everyone agreed, and they had a quick laugh. The glasses adventure tells them to quiet down.
Mike gets to the dock and gets off the boat. He has tears in his eyes. He slowly walks to the house. Wolf sees him but does nothing. He lets Mike get to the house. Once Mike gets to the front door, he stops. The door opened, and Sam was standing in front of him.
He saw how sad Mike was and told him to go in. Sam said nothing and followed Mike to the room. Mike sits on his bed. Sam looks at him. Mike didn't know what to do. Sam goes to a dresser and opens it. He takes out a bottle. Sam offers Mike the bottle. Mike tear eye takes the bottle and opens it.
Mike chugs the bottle. Sam told him that everything was going to be alright. Mike was getting drunk, and he shouted. He wanted to forget what happened. Sam also shouts, and he brings out more bottles. They drink together.
The adventurers get close to the island. They split and head to opposite sides of the island. Wolf makes his way to the docks. He didn't see anyone. Suddenly Wolf senses something strange. He runs to one side of the island. An adventurer underwater sees him and heads to the others.
Wolf gets close to a beach. He sees a boat has landed on shore. Wolf draws his sword and slowly walks up to it. He feels a presence, and from the corner of his eye, he sees a blade. Wolf dodges the attack. The adventurer sees and smiles.
"Got you."
Wolf rolled away from the attack. He stands back up and readies himself. Another adventurer comes out from the sand. The adventurer pulls a rope, and a net comes out beneath Wolf. Wolf's body glows, and the net rips. The adventurers get mad.
"Earth magic."
The adventurer that pulled the rope takes out daggers. Wolf quickly makes his move. He takes a step and jumps to the dagger-welding adventurer. Wolf swings his sword but gets stopped by an adventurer holding a giant club. Wolf steps back but realizes he is surrounded.
Five people dressed like assassins surrounded Wolf. On the other side of the island, the other group gets off the boat. The glasses adventurer tells the group that the other should be fighting Wolf. The underwater adventurer was on land, making his way to the others.
The group makes their way to the house. After some time, they see the other member. He tells him about Wolf going to the other group. The group reaches the home. They see a cage and a cabin—the glasses adventurer orders two of them to check the house.
In the house, Mike and Sam are now in the living room drinking. The head maid was in her room, sitting on a rocking chair. The other maids were in a room looking out the window. They were talking about the festival.
It was dark, and Adolpha could not see the stars. She felt lonely and sad. Suddenly an explosion scares her. She hides under her sheets. More explosions happened, and Adolpha was tearing up, scared. She then notices the lights. She sticks her head out and sees the lights in the night sky.
This was the first time she had seen fireworks. The explosions scare her, but she becomes amazed by the beautiful colors. In the house, the other maids were also looking at the fireworks. They look happy.
Back with Wolf and the adventurers, Wolf was dodging and blocking their attacks. Wolf was calm and observing his opponents. The Adventurers were talking about how they needed to keep Wolf busy. Wolf hears his and knows what is happening.
Wolf draws Mana, and his sword glows. The other adventurers do the same. Wolf goes and attacks the big club adventurer. The adventurer gets ready and blocks Wolf's attacks. The adventurer with the dagger attacks Wolf from the back. Wolf dodges and kicks the Adventurer. He goes flying back.
The club adventurer swings his club, and Wolf jumps out of the way. An adventurer with a bow shoots Wolf. Wolf manages to dodge his attack. Two other adventurers with swords attack. Wolf dodges them too. The adventurers were mad that they could not hit Wolf.
The others have the two adventurers look at the house. Adolpha senses them and sees them. She didn't know who they were. She gets scared and goes to her bed. The house has lights off. The adventurers look through some windows. They notice lights in another room.
The muscles adventurer goes to the cabin and takes a look inside. There was nothing. Adolpha was scared. The glasses adventure wanted to move on the house when he senses Mana coming from the cabin. He gets close and looks at it.
The adventurer draws Mana and places his hand on the cabin. The cabin reacts and distorts the way it looks briefly. The glasses adventurer smiles and tells the group to gather. He tells one of them to open the cabin door.
One of them gets close to the door. He looks at the lock and takes out his lock picks. He begins to break into the cabin. He hears the final lock open, and he opens the door. The adventurers see Adolpha hiding behind her sheets.
The glasses adventurer smiles and takes a step inside. The cabin reacts, and magic circles appear underneath them. Spikes made of earth burst out. The adventurers jump out of the way. They activated a trap.
The bracelet reacts, and the head maid gets up. She goes over to the window and sees the spikes. She was shocked and went to the room with the girls. The head maid told them to stay in the room. The girls were confused about what the head maid told them.
The head maid goes downstairs and walks by the living room. Sam and Mike saw her. Sam sees her have a worried look. Mike just kept drinking. The head maid enters the kitchen and looks out the window. She saw the group of adventurers.
The glasses adventurer tells the muscle adventurer to break the spikes. The muscle adventurer walks over to them. His body glows and punches the rock. The spikes burst to cause an earthquake. Everyone in the house felt it.
The maids get scared and run to the head maid's room. She was not there, but they noticed the backyard. They look through the window and see the dust. They then see the group of adventurers by the cabin. They become worried about what is happening.
The adventurers let the dust clear. The glasses adventurer walks back into the cabin. He looks at Adolpha. Adolpha tears up. The other adventurers get close to the door and look at her. Some are surprised by her beauty.
The glasses adventurer moves the table and reaches out his hand. Adolpha panics and tells him to leave her alone. She begins to yell for help. The head maid just watched. The glasses adventurer grabs her and pulls her close.
"If you want to stay safe, do everything I say."
Adolpha has a panic attack, and her body glows. The glasses adventurer lets her go and jumps back. The collar around her neck reacts and suppresses her magic. Adolpha becomes weak. The other adventurer questions his actions. The glasses adventurer tells them he was cautious.
Adolpha falls to the grown. The glasses adventurer walks over to her and picks her up. Adolpha struggles to get away. The adventurer throws her on his shoulder. He tells everyone that they are leaving. They get no resistance from the house. The maids see the group taking Adolpha.
Adolpha still struggles to get free. She manages to draw strength and scratch the adventurer. He drops her after getting hit. The other adventurers laugh about it. The glasses adventurer gets mad. He looks at Adolpha with an angry expression. Adolpha begins to cry. The glasses adventurer tells her to quiet down.
Adolpha kept crying to the point where she began to howl. This upsets the glasses adventurer. He hits her across the face. Adolpha falls to the ground. The other adventurer told him that they needed her unharmed.
On the other side, Wolf dodges one of the swordsmen's attacks. He then quickly attacks, killing him. The other adventurers get mad. Wolf gets in a defensive stance. The fireworks were still going on. After an explosion, Wolf hears the cry of a wolf. The howls are silent.
Wolf draws Mana. The adventurer with the club goes for an attack. Wolf turns to him and swings his sword. The sword breaks, but Wolf continues his attack. He scratches the adventurer. The adventurer holds his throat. He was bleeding from it.
The adventurer with the daggers finally gets up. He sees his group dead. He feels a presence behind himself. He turns and sees Wolf behind him. Wolf pierces the adventurer's stomach with his claws. Wolf drops him and runs to the house.
The glasses adventurer asks someone else to take her. The adventurer that opened the cabin door goes up to her and picks her up. The glasses adventurer touches where he got scratched. He felt some stinging. He tells the group to signal the others when they are on the boat.
The adventurers were distracted that they didn't feel his presence. A large shadow stands over two adventurers. The glasses adventurer looks and yells at them to look behind. Wolf quickly cuts them down. The muscle adventurer gets excited. He tells the rest that he will fight him.
"I knew they had to have somebody worth fighting. I'm glad that I get to fight you."
Wolf said nothing and stared at them with a menacing look. The muscle adventurer readies his sword. He smiles and draws Mana. His sword glows brightly.
"Don't disappoint me."
The muscle adventurer runs to Wolf and jumps. He swings his sword. Wolf catches the blade. Wolf was staring at Adolpha on the ground. She had tears coming down her eyes. He then sees the bruise on her cheek.
Wolf gets even angrier. He draws Mana, and his body glows. He starts to get bigger. His muscles expand, and hair grows all over his body. His face starts to change. The glasses adventurer becomes scared.
"It can't be; they didn't say anything about him."
The muscle adventurer was not impressed. Blood dripped from Wolf's hand. The muscle adventurer tries to pull his sword. He couldn't, so he went for a kick. Wolf catches his foot too. The muscle adventurer lets go of the sword and try to punch him.
Wolf drops the sword and catches his hand. He then easily lifts him. The glasses adventurer tells the muscle adventure to get free from him. The muscle adventurer tried but couldn't. Wolf began to pull him apart.
In the house, the maids saw horror as Wolf killed the group of intruders. Sam walked into the kitchen and saw the head maid. He asks her what she is looking at. He looks and sees a giant wolf killing people—Sam ducks in fear.
Wolf pulls the muscle adventurer apart. Blood and insides fall to the ground. The adventurer lets go of Adolpha. Wolf emits electricity. The last two adventurers get distracted and lose sight of Wolf. Wolf was behind them. He kicks the glasses adventurer while the other one dodges.
Wolf attacks the glasses adventurer again. The adventurer dodges but gets scraped. He holds his stomach in pain. The glasses adventurer draws Mana and activates a blue crystal. His body glows, but Wolf attacks him. The other adventurer takes out a red crystal.
He draws Mana, and he forms a fireball. Before he could throw it at Wolf with lighting speed cuts the adventurer's hand. Wolf's fingernails were shiny like a blade. The adventurer screams before getting cut down.
The glasses adventurer injured ties to get up. He looks around and sees the others dead. He sees Wolf in this monstrous animal-like look. Wolf turns to him and begins to walk toward him. The glasses adventure began to cough. He was scared. He coughs blood.
"How could this have happened"?
Wolf cuts down the glasses-wearing adventurer. The moon comes through the clouds, and Wolf howls. Adolpha opens her eyes and sees the monstrous Wolf. She was not afraid. The head maid could not walk out of the house. Sam was scared by the howl.
Wolf goes over to Adolpha. She jumps in his arms. Wolf said nothing. He slowly changed back to his human side. Wolf takes her back to the cabin. Adolpha was scared. Wolf gets her inside the cabin and tries to leave her. Adolpha grabs on to him.
Wolf stares at her. Something in Adolpha makes her act. She gives Wolf a look. She was scared, but her feeling took over. She undresses, and the light from the moon shines on her. Wolf becomes mesmerized by her, and his instincts also take over.
Wolf and Adolpha began to kiss. Wolf lays Adolpha in bed. In the house, the head maid told Sam to check on Adolpha. Sam was too scared to go. Mike was passed out in the living room. The head maid was also scared that she told Sam to keep an eye out.
In town, the festival was over, and everyone was heading home. The head maid went back upstairs to her room. She sees the other girls scared. She tells them the danger is over, and they return to their rooms. The girls leave the room scared.
The head maid sits on her bed and sighs. She felt depressed and scared. It was quiet, and everyone went to sleep. After some time, Wolf woke up. Adolpha was sleeping next to him. Wolf gets up and walks outside the cabin.
He begins to dig a hole. After some time, he dumps the bodies into the hole. He covers the bodies with dirt and goes to the other group of bodies. Wolf puts the bodies on the boat and takes them to sea. He dumps the bodies into the ocean.
Wolf goes back to the island. He leaves the boat. Wolf draws Mana, and his claws glow. Wolf swings his hand, and it looks like he threw something. The boat suddenly splits into parts. It sinks into the water.
Wolf goes back to the cabin. He stares at the door. He looks inside and sees Adolpha safely sleeping. Wolf seats next to the entrance of the cabin. Wolf protects the entrance until morning.
The following morning Mike woke up with a headache. He went to the kitchen and prepared some coffee. He sees Sam asleep on the kitchen floor. Mike laughs because he could not remember what had happened. Mike was making his coffee when he noticed the door to Adolpha's cabin.
He goes out of the kitchen and walks to it. He did not notice a fresh mound of dirt near it. Mike peaks inside and sees Adolpha sleeping. He wonders what happened. Adolpha was waking up. She gets up while holding her sheets. She sees Mike staring at her.
Mike greets her, and Adolpha screams. Mike felt a presence behind him. He turns and sees Wolf standing there. Mike screams and drops his coffee. Mike runs to the house. He goes in and wakes Sam.
Sam also had a headache. He asks Mike to keep it down. Mike was catching his breath. Sam suddenly screams and goes to the window. Sam doesn't see the bodies. He tells Mike about last night. Mike was confused about what Sam was saying.
The head maid and the other maids walk in. The head maid tells Sam to stay quiet. She heads outside to the cabin. She sees the mound of dirt but keeps walking. When she gets to the cabin, she sees Adolpha. The head maid goes in and checks on her.
Adolpha was getting dressed. She looked at the head maid and said nothing. The head maid notices the bruise on her cheek and the blood on the sheets. The head maid walks out and calls for Wolf. Wolf appears before her. The head maid takes out the bracelet and activates it. The collar around Wolf reacts.
Wolf gets shocked and drops to his knees. Adolpha sees this and gets scared. The head maid then lets Wolf go. She has an angry look. The head maid sighs and heads back to the house.
"There will be consequences for this."
Wolf gets up and walks over to the cabin. Adolpha looks at him and asks if he is okay. Wolf nods and gives her a seashell. Adolpha smiles at him. Wolf goes on patrol. With the cabin damage, Adolpha could hear the sounds of the island. She saw clearly through the doors. She was amazed.
The head maid goes back inside the house. She sees Mike and Sam in the kitchen. She told them that they needed to report to Lord Michael. Hearing this, Mike panics. He talks to the head maid about wanting to keep it a secret.
The head maid gets mad. Sam comes into the conversation and wants to wait to tell Lord Michael. The head maid gets mad at both of them. She then sees the other maids. They had worried expressions. The head maid reconsiders.
The head maid tells the girls to get to work. They need to feed Adolpha. She was going to her room and thought about what to do. She also tells Mike and Sam to fix the door to the cabin. The head maid gets to her room and sits. She felt exhausted.
Sam and Mike get to work. They were scared of what might happen. They have tools and walk to the cabin. Adolpha sees them and jumps on her bed. Mike takes a look at the door. Sam sees Adolpha and waves to her. Adolpha growled at him.
Wolf was by the beach. He saw fishing boats and some other ships. He thinks about what he did. Wolf remembers his family. He remembers when he was young.
"You will be a great hunter someday Beo…."
