Chapter 7
The Escape
It was early morning, and the sun was coming out. The head maid was already in the kitchen. The rest of the maids came in and saw her. They greeted her and began to make breakfast. The head maid greeted them in return.
The maids have prepared breakfast, and two take it to Adolpha. They open the door to her cabin and wake her up. Adolpha has trouble waking up. In a soft tone, one of the maids calls to her. Adolpha replays tiredly.
"Mother, I don't want to get up yet."
The maids laugh, and one of them slowly shakes Adolpha. Adolpha slowly opens her eyes and sees them. She becomes embarrassed while the maids laugh. Adolpha gets out of bed and sits at the table. She eats her breakfast.
Later that afternoon, a knock at the door is heard. The maids were scared, and the head maid walked to it. Sam and Mike look from the hallway. The head maid opens the door, and a man is standing there. He looks at the head maid and tells her he has a package for her.
The man hands her a large package wrapped in a piece of fancy fabric. The head maid also receives a letter with it. The man excuses himself and leaves. The head maid closes the door and turns to the others. The others begin to question her.
The head maid walks to the kitchen and places the package on a table. She then takes the letter and opens it. She reads it. The other maids were curious about the content of the box.
The head maid places the letter down and opens the package. She holds up a beautiful blue dress. She tells the others that Lord Michael wants Adolpha to wear it for Captain Harris. The maids were amazed by the quality of the dress. The head maid has one of the maids store it for another time.
The head maid has an uninterested expression. A few minutes later, the head maid calls everyone to the kitchen. The maids stopped working and met her. Sam and Mike also arrive. The head maid has instructions for them. She tells the maids to head to the mainland and wait for Captain Harris.
The maids were confused about those instructions. The head maid explains there was no reason to clean an already clean house daily. She told them that she would let them relax before he arrived.
They had questions about getting caught while they were having fun. The head maid reassured them that it was going to be alright. She was going to handle everything. The maids had a doubtful expression.
The head maid then tells them that she wants them to feel free from burden before Captain Harris comes. This makes them think about it. The maids were still unsure about it, but they agreed to relax. The head maid then talks to Sam and Mike.
They were excited to hear what she had to say to them. The head told them to look after them. Mike asks if they are going to get paid. The head maid looks at him with a mean expression. Mike looks disappointed. The head maid then tells him that they will get paid. Mike and Sam get excited. The other maid left to get ready. Mike and Sam also go and get ready. After a while, the maids, Mike and Sam, were getting on a boat.
One of the girls speaks to the head maid. She asks her if she needs help taking care of Adolpha. The head maid happily shakes her head and tells her she will be alright. She trusts Wolf to protect them. The maid smiles and gets on the boat.
The boat begins to depart, and the girls wave goodbye to the head maid. The head maid waves back at them. After they are on their way, the head maid walks back to the house. She heads to the kitchen and pulls out the bracelet.
The bracelet is activated, and the door to Wolf's cage opens. Wolf gets out and walks to the house. The head maid was waiting for him. She instructs him to get a table from the house and set it up outside.
She then brings out several jars and has Wolf bring out some sacks. She tells him to get their supplies and bring them to the house. Wolf goes to his hiding spot. The head maid goes and opens the door to Adolpha's cabin. Adolpha was drawing on the walls.
Adolpha gets called, and she turns around. She sees the head maid and gets up. The head maid looks at her and smiles. Adolpha was confused about what was happening. The head maid tells Adolpha to follow her.
Adolpha was scared and didn't want to go. The head maid laughs and begins to tell her about herself. Wolf was coming back from gathering his supplies. He saw Adolpha and the head maid sitting and talking by the table.
Wolf approached, and Adolpha saw him. She gets up and goes over to hug him. Adolpha tells him how the head maid wants to help them and how she told her about her life. Wolf listens to her but continues to walk to the table.
The head maid calls Adolpha over. She then tells Wolf to get some supplies from the storage room in the house. She tells him what to look for. The head maid makes Adolpha sit at the table and begins to teach her about preserving food.
Adolpha questions their reason for preserving food. The head maid tells her about the dangers of food going bad on her travels. She tells Adolpha about making food last longer. The head maid teaches Adolpha about pickling. Wolf was coming out with the supplies he was told to get.
Wolf has blankets and some dry meats. He got two barrels of clean water. Wolf saw Adolpha cooking with the head maid. She looked like she was having fun. Wolf smiled and then headed off to patrol the island.
Adolpha was excited. She looked up to see if Wolf was watching. She saw that he was gone. The head maid told her to focus. She has more to teach Adolpha. Adolpha goes back to pay attention. Adolpha was taught all day.
After dinner, Adolpha fell asleep. Wolf came by to check on them. He sees the head maid in the cabin with Adolpha. She was patting her head. The head maid looks over and sees Wolf. She gets up and walks out. Wolf follows her to the table.
The head maid prepares some coffee. She offers Wolf some to drink. They both sat down. It was quiet for some time. The head maid asks Wolf about his feeling for Adolpha. Wolf stayed silent for a while. He then told her about it.
"Her beauty captivated me to feel for her. I could feel her fear and loneliness when I started to walk by the cabin. Even if I couldn't see her initially, something pushed me to be there for her. At first, I thought it was because of Lord Michael…."
The head maid smiles. She was impressed that he could see through the cabin's illusion. Wolf told her he thought she was in the house until he felt her presence. The head maid then becomes serious. She tells Wolf that she cannot remove their collars. Wolf was confused because the head maid just said that.
Wolf wanted her to explain what she meant. The head maid told him what Lord Michael said to her. The bracelet she got was to keep Wolf restrained. It would react to his dark crystal. She would be able to unlock or lock his Mana flow. The bracelet also had another function.
The door to Adolpha's and Wolf's prison. She would be able to open and seal them. That was the only thing it could do. She could not remove the collars. She also told Wolf that she and the maids could only use the collar.
Wolf asked if there was any other way to remove the collars. The head maid didn't know anything else. She also told Wolf that she would keep the bracelet to ensure the other girls don't get in trouble. Wolf was thinking about what to do. The head maid told him that his collar could only be active for some time.
Wolf wants to know why she is telling him all this now. The head maid tells him to let him use his magic to destroy the trap set in the ocean. She wants him to get as far as he can before his magic seals. Wolf understands and will do what he can.
Wolf and the head maid talk some more and peacefully drink their coffee. The following morning Adolpha wakes up and heads outside. The head maid has breakfast ready. Wolf was sitting down with her. Adolpha smiles and runs to them. The head maid tells Adolpha what they are going to do.
Adolpha was going to learn some sowing and more cooking. She was also going to learn about taking care of a baby. Adolpha asks the head maid why she needs to know. The head maid told her it was a precaution in case they didn't make it before the baby was born.
Adolpha got scared, thinking she wouldn't make it back home. Wolf reassures her that he will take her home. Adolpha sits and eats with them. She smiles as she thanks them.
After breakfast, the head maid tells Wolf to get a boat. She tells him where to find one that can carry everything they have. It also has a place for them to sleep in. Wolf asks her if it is safe for him to take it. She tells him to steal it.
Wolf was not sure about stealing it. The head maid explains that she wants Lord Michael to believe Wolf planned the whole escape. It might help her push the blame from the other girls. Wolf thinks about it and agrees. The head maid tells Wolf to follow.
Adolpha follows them to one of the corners of the island. The head maid points to another island. There are several boats parked by a dock. The boat looks pretty large. The head maid tells them that it has a cabin on the bottom.
Wolf wanted to know about the people there. The head maid tells him they will return some of the boats when the work is over. They leave the one he is going to steal. It was for transporting supplies. Wolf wanted to know when they finished.
The head maid told him to go at night. Wolf agrees to wait. The head maid told Adolpha to return because they were going to practice now. Wolf went on his patrol. Adolpha and the head maid went back to the backyard.
The head maid was telling Adolpha about raising a baby. She was also teaching her to sew. Adolpha made mistakes and pricked her finger. She was becoming frustrated. The head maid told her to relax. Wolf passed by and saw Adolpha's lessen. This reminded him of some old memories.
"Hey, not like that; tie the rope tightly, or it will loosen. Practice tying a rope, so it holds when you need to tie something down."
Wolf finished packing everything he made. He then began to sharpen a stone ax and spear he had made. Adolpha ate at noon and then continued her lesson. She struggles to learn but slowly gives it her all. Night approached, and she was getting nervous.
Adolpha was eating dinner with the head maid and Wolf. The head maid could see Adolpha having second thoughts about escaping. The head maid calms her down and tells her that she will see her family again. Wolf felt uneasy too but hid his emotions.
The sun has set, and the head maid unseals Wolf's Mana. Wolf drew Mana and prepared to go to the other island. He walks over to the island's edge and waits for the workers to leave. He sees them getting on some boats.
The workers finished loading and headed back to the mainland. Wolf draws Mana, and his body glows. He jumps and looks like he is running across the water. Wolf gets to the island and senses any traps. He feels no one or any kind of trap. Wolf makes his way to the boat.
He cuts the rope and gets on. Wolf takes some paddles and paddles his way back to the island. The head maid waits for him and notices him paddling. When Wolf gets to the island, the head maid talks to him. She asks him if he has ever used a sailboat.
Wolf tells her that he has not been to the ocean that much. He said that Lord Michael always kept him on the mainland. The head maid shakes her head and tells Wolf that she will teach him the basics. First, he needs to load the boat.
Wolf ran to the backyard and picked as much as he could carry. He took it to the boat and loaded it. Adolpha took some things too. The head maid helped pack them on the boat. Once they were finished, the head maid gave Adolpha a knife and a hug.
She told her to use it for protection. She looks over at Wolf. She hands him a sword and knife. She tells him to protect Adolpha. Wolf nods his head and promises to do so. Adolpha gets on the boat and sits on a bench.
The head maid explains to Wolf about the working of a sailboat. Wolf pays real close attention to what she is telling him. Once she is done, she bids them farewell. Adolpha began to cry and thanked her for her help. Right before they left, the head maid told them her name.
"I know it would only make it worse, but I had no intention of getting close to you. Throughout these seasons, I learned and loved to see you free. I was the head maid all this time to you, but not anymore. Adolpha, please live happily from now on…."
Adolpha got up and wanted to hug her one more time. They were already too far. Wolf stopped her. The head maid bows to her and waves goodbye. Wolf bows right back at her.
"I, Silvia de the rose, am happy to have served you."
Wolf steered the sailboat around the island. He was heading for open waters. He told Adolpha to hold the steering wheel when they were getting nearby. Wolf drew Mana, and his fingernails grew. His nails began to glow, and wind swirled around them.
Wolf saw the fishing boat always in the distance during his patrols. Wolf scratches the air, and a gust of wind is released. Before Adolpha knew what happened, the fishing boat broke into pieces. Adolpha was surprised to see that.
Wolf tells Adolpha to head down in the boat. She wanted to stay up there. Wolf said to her that he wanted to make sure the trap was destroyed. Adolpha, depressed, headed downstairs. Wolf steers, and they pass the sinking fishing boat. There was no one board, and it didn't react.
Wolf sighs in relief. He goes over to open the sail. Unknown to him, a crystal shines at the bottom of the ocean. The ocean floor shakes, and something big moves. The sea began to make more waves. As Wolf worked on opening the sails, he felt danger.
He hears a thump coming from downstairs. He calls Adolpha but no replay. He goes over to check. When he gets downstairs and sees Adolpha grabbing onto her collar, it is glowing. Wolf runs up to her and asks her what is wrong.
Adolpha could not speak, and it was causing her pain. She could still breathe, but something terrible was happening. The boat began to shake violently. Wolf told Adolpha to hold on and went upstairs to see what was happening.
Wolf has trouble standing up straight. The waves are crashing on the boat. He manages to get upstairs and looks out. Whirlpools form out in the ocean. They were blocking the path of the boat. Wolf also felt something getting close.
He looks out at the water. He then notices something swimming toward them. It comes out of the water and is a massive slim mudfish creature. The creature swam fast, and it hit the boat. Wolf falls back and hits the edge of the boat.
He gets back up and fears Adolpha, who was downstairs, is scared. He thinks of what to do—the creature dove into the water. Wolf thinks about Adolpha's safety and draws Mana. Wolf's claws glow. The creature resurfaces and goes to attack again. Wolf attacks with wind magic.
The creature gets hit but does not stop its attacks. The boat gets hit again, but Wolf manages to reinforce it. Wolf thinks again about how to stop it. The creature gets ready for another attack. Wolf thinks of something. He searches for a spear.
The creature swims towards the boat. Wolf draws more Mana. The sky begins to form clouds. The sound of thunder is heard. On the mainland, the people could see the clouds. Everyone was wondering what was going on. The maid felt afraid of what was happening.
The head maid Silvia was on the beach watching everything that was happening. She could not help. As Wolf drew Mana, he readies his weapon. He followed the movements of the creatures. The wind picks up and moves the boat.
Wolf was not worried about the whirlpools. He concentrated on the creature. The creature swam faster and dove. Wolf patiently waited. He felt the beast and reinforced the boat again. The creature hits the boat from under it. The boat lifts into the air. Wolf hangs on to the edge of the boat.
The boat lands back in the water. This creates a splash and obstructs Wolf's view. This did not stop Wolf. He remembers something someone said to him. Wolf makes the spear glow. He then throws it with much force. The next thing that happened was a thunder strike hit, and the sound of a creature was heard.
Wolf falls back on his back and breaths heavily. The waves subside. On the mainland, more people talk about what happened. It was night, so some people woke up after hearing the thunder strike. The head maid Silvia smiles as she sees the boat still standing.
After catching his breath, Wolf gets up and goes to the steering wheel. He turns, and the boat heads out to sea. Once he is clear and in open waters, he feels excitement within himself. Wolf howls at the night sky. The town could hear his howl, and then it slowly disappeared.
The following day Adolpha slowly regains conciseness. She was lying in bed with some minor injuries. She felt some pain but wondered what had happened. She gets up and sees some of their supplies are broken. Adolpha makes her way to the stairs and heads up.
The sun was bright, and the sky was clear. The sound of the waves and birds made her realize that she was free. She hurries to the edge of the boat and looks out. Adolpha could see the mainland in the distance and some towns. Adolpha smiles and gets excited. She turns and sees Wolf steering the boat.
Adolpha runs to him and hugs him. Wolf was surprised and embarrassed. Adolpha sits on a bench and stares out at the ocean. Wolf tells her what they are going to do. Wolf tells her they will eat some broken supplies because they will not last long.
Adolpha was not paying attention. She was just happy to be out of that prison. She thought about her family and friends. She also rubs her stomach and smiles. A few minutes later, Adolpha was throwing up on the side of the boat.
Wolf told her to lay down because she was not used to being on a boat. He gave her water to drink and told her to relax. They enjoyed the ocean breeze and the spray of the water. They ate from the food supplies that broke during the attack.
Wolf told Adolpha about what happened and how she was knocked out. Wolf also notices that Adolpha's black crystal has a crack. Wolf didn't know why or how. He just left it at that. It became night, and Wolf was steering. Adolpha came outside and sat on the bench.
She had a blanket because it was cold outside. Wolf's collar has already sealed his Mana. Adolpha sees that he is cold and goes over to him. She hugs Wolf and covers him with the blanket. This was the first time she had done something for him. Adolpha blushes and tells Wolf not to say anything.
Wolf and Adolpha have been at sea for some time now. Adolpha was getting used to being on the boat. They throw away some spoiled food, but Wolf catches some fish for them to eat. Sometimes Adolpha was boarded off, staying on the boat.
She asks Wolf if they could go to the mainland for some time. Wolf denied her request because he feared that Lord Michael and Harris were in pursuit. He told Adolpha they would be on the mainland in two days. Adolpha didn't like it.
A few more days passed, and Adolpha was sleeping. She hears the sound of bells. Adolpha gets up and heads upstairs. When she sees what is happening, she is amazed. Other boats were surrounding them. Adolpha has seen some boats and ships during their travel but not like this.
There were larger ships further out and small boats near the mainland. Adolpha also sees a bunch of building together and people who seem to be working. They were unloading and loading ships and vessels. Adolpha noticed that these people were smaller than humans.
She also saw some humans with them. There were also other beast men there. Wolf told Adolpha that they were dwarfs. He said to her that they were on the dwarf territory. Adolpha looked around at all that was happening. She was amazed at the site. She asks if they could stop for a moment.
Before Wolf could say no, a loud horn scared her. Adolpha hides behind Wolf. She then sees a large ship heading into a giant tunnel. Adolpha could see inside. There were a lot of workers, and there were using tools she had never seen.
Adolpha then hears shouting. Some dwarf fishermen were yelling at each other. More dwarf people began to scream. One dwarf boat man yells at Wolf to move his boat. Wolf looks at him and glares at him. The dwarf becomes quiet. Wolf steers his boat away from the others.
Wolf told Adolpha they could not stop because of significant problems in the dwarf territories. Lord Michael had connections to some corrupted people there. He reassures her that they are almost there.
Wolf looks over at the docks and sees all the people. He then notices some suspicious people looking around. One person looks in his direction, and Wolf turns to avoid what could be eye contact. He looks again and sees them steal from a fisherman. Wolf continues to look around.
They pass all the ships and the large tunnel. Adolpha was upset that they couldn't stop to see on the mainland. They continue on their journey. Wolf was becoming exhausted because he would only sleep for a few minutes. There were still some docks along the shore.
As they continued, the shops and homes disappeared. There was nothing but cliffs and beaches along the shore. One afternoon Wolf shows Adolpha a map that the head maid Silvia gave him. He points to where they were getting off. It was two days from the dwarf tunnel. Adolpha gets excited.
For the rest of the day, Adolpha tells Wolf more about her family and what she could remember. Wolf still hasn't told her about himself. Adolpha was pretty happy, and her stomach was noticeable. They keep sailing on.
The following day Wolf seems to have dozed off. He woke up and noticed the fog rolling in. He could not see the sky or the mainland. He didn't know where to go, so he kept going straight. Adolpha has awoken and heads upstairs.
She sees the fog and asks Wolf if it is safe. Wolf tells her that he has everything under control. Wolf then sees where the fog lifts and heads in that direction. Adolpha sits on the bench and stares forward. Wolf could start to see the mainland.
Adolpha looks at him and smiles. Suddenly Wolf shouts to her to get downstairs. Adolpha gets scared and asks Wolf why. Adolpha then turns and sees a bunch of people on the mainland.
These people are all wearing military armor, and they have weapons. Wolf noticed that they were all humans from the Umbridge Kingdom. Adolpha gets up and heads over to Wolf. She was worried about what they were looking at.
On the mainland, a soldier goes over to what looks like their captain. He tells him that there is a boat out at sea. The captain takes out a spyglass and looks through it. He sees the boat and asks one of his soldiers if they told the people it was forbidden to go out.
The soldier tells him that all people have been told to evacuate. The captain thinks about what to do. Bells are heard, and the soldiers get ready. The captain tells his men to ignore the boat. Wolf turns around and sees large ships sailing to the mainland.
On top of the ships, Slime creatures make noise. There are soldiers in knight suits behind them. They are faster and pass by Wolf and Adolpha. Adolpha is scared of what is happening. Wolf looks over and sees that the human soldiers have launched an attack.
Wolf holds on to Adolpha.
