"I think we need to end everything," he said.

What?

What did that mean?

"What are you talking about?" I asked.

"We need to end this relationship," he said, "It's not going to work out."

"Edward... What are you talking about?" I said.

I felt my heart was beating so fast now. He was kidding, right? He had to be!

"I'm sorry..." he said, "But the last few days have made me realize that our worlds are very different."

"They were always different," I said with disbelief, "How does it matter now? Is it because you're a king now and I'm not good enough for you?"

My head was spinning.

I didn't know what to think.

What was he talking about?

"It's not about being good for anyone..." he said, "Last few days have made me realize the amount of pressure and sacrifice this crown demands... I don't think you'd want to be a part of this. You have other dreams, and I don't think you're ready to leave them behind."

I stared at him with disbelief.

"Is it because I wasn't able to come to you earlier?" I said, "Did you want me by your side? You could have asked me..." I said incredulously, "I swear, I would have left everything and come here."

Finally a smile broke through his face. This was the saddest smile I had seen on his face.

"Isabella..." he said, "I have got plenty of people here who will do anything I ask them to do."

"I thought what we had was different," he continued, "I thought you were the one who could understand me without saying anything."

He looked so... hurt.

Why didn't I come here before?

Why didn't I realize that he'd want me by his side?

"Edward..." My eyes had welled up with tears. "I'm... I'm sorry!"

"I don't want you to leave anything behind," he said, "You are going to regret it someday if you do it just because I asked you to do that. This is not your country, not your people, not your responsibilities. I don't blame you if you don't want to make any sacrifices for them. I know at some point we thought we could make it work, but it doesn't look the same to me now. It's better to end this before it's too late."

He was talking as if he was talking to some diplomat or something, and not to his girlfriend!

"Who are you and what have you done to my Edward?" I said. I wasn't able to stop my tears now.

"I think he died." He said.
