AN: Set in Modern Times
"Okay so let me get this straight" Eden said sitting next to her sister in law on a bench at the dog park. "He has a wife?"
"And two sons. I knew Hanna was his daughter" Faith added, wiping at her eyes now, sighing as she watched Simon's black lab Lucky run around with a goofy look on his face.
"Oh wow that is crazy..." Eden shook her head now and sighed as she checked her cell phone for any texts from her husband. Simon had been out all day with Jesus and the other boys. She missed him.
She looked back over at Faith now, who looked as though she hadn't slept a wink. Eden had never seen Faith so worked up over a man. She must have really liked him. Even if he was a police officer. And that alone concerned her. The police officers in town seemed to be growing more corrupt and more forceful by the day.
Faith knew she was being crazy, but she was already so attached to Gaius that she didn't think she could live without him now. But the only thing standing between them was his wife and she didn't want to be that girl. She could never be. The minute he had told her about his wife, she had made up some excuse about her, Miriam and a tutoring session at a coffee shop.
Of course that wasn't true, but she had to make up some kind of lie to get away from the situation before she cried in front of him. And she almost had. She didn't realize how much of a trance she was in until Eden's phone went off. She looked over now as Eden was shaking her head.
"Listen Faith I have to go pick up Miriam from school. I completely forgot I was picking her up today and not her father."
Faith smiled now and nodded. "You're fine Eden. I think I'll just sit here for awhile" she said as Eden whistled for Lucky.
Eden sighed and turned to the girl behind her. "Try not to dwell on it too much" she said now as she finally caught the bouncy black lab. "And don't worry. I won't tell Simon."
Faith found herself letting out a huge sigh of relief, knowing how protective her brothers were of her. If they ever found out about this there would be a showdown. Not that she minded Simon and Andrew's protection, but she had always been better at handling guys without their help.
"Thanks Eden" she said softly, pulling her knees up to her chest, waving goodbye before she trained her eyes on all the other dogs, distracting herself the best way she could.
She must have been sitting there for a long time because when Gaius' voice brought her out of her trance, the sun was setting.
"Shouldn't you be about halfway home Faith? It's not safe for a girl you're age to be out alone at this time of night."
She turned slowly to face the man that she had been thinking about all day long, sighing as she turned away. "I didn't realize. Shouldn't you be home with you're wife and kids then?"
She didn't mean to make the last part sound so snappy, but somehow it had come out that way and she closed her eyes now, looking away as she fought the tears once more. Gaius caught this now and sat down next to her, slowly reaching out to take one of her hands, shocking Faith a little as she turned back to face him, letting her legs down now.
She stared into his blue eyes now, tears filling her own now as she tried to blink them back, but a few fell anyway. She sighed and closed them now, surprised to feel a hand wipe the tears away gently. She squeezed the hand that was holding her's gently now as she opened her eyes back up, surprised that he was still there.
"We can't...We can't do this Gaius. You're married. I can't..."
He leaned forward now and kissed her softly, placing his free hand on her cheek. She couldn't help but kiss back wrapping her arm around his neck. It was pure bliss and she didn't want to let him go now.
He pulled back suddenly and wiped the remaining tears off her cheeks. "We can do this. You didn't let me finish the other day. My wife and I have been divorced for a year now Faith. You are all I want now."
She sighed softly and placed her forehead on his. "I cannot imagine my life without you."
"And you won't have to" he promised her as he kissed her once more, pulling her closer as she shivered from the fact that it was growing cold outside.
"We should get some place warm. How about we head to my place and we can talk things over more. Hanna is out with a friend, so we'll have the place to ourselves."
Faith nodded as Gaius ran his hands up and down her arms. She hated herself for only wearing a sweatshirt when she knew it was going to get this cold.
"Okay" she said softly as he wrapped her in his arms for a minute before walking her to his car.
Gaius turned on the heat as soon as he got in the car, smiling over at her softly, pushing her hair away from her face. "You are beautiful."
He started driving, reaching over with one hand to hold her own. He noticed her blush right away and grinned, leaning over to kiss her at the first stop light. She smiled against his lips now and pulled back a little.
"Aren't you supposed to be keeping you're eyes on the road officer?" Faith teased as Gaius pulled her against him, her arms wrapping around him instantly.
"I know how to watch the road Faith" he said, kissing her cheek softly, his eyes still on the road.
The kissing session continued all the way to his house with Faith rolling her eyes playfully as soon as she got out of the car. She couldn't believe any of this was happening now as she raced to him as he lifted her into his arms, both of them laughing as he spun her around playfully. It was like they couldn't stop touching eachother. They were kissing so much, Faith was surprised they even got into the house.
She laughed against his lips as they pulled apart finally once they were in the kitchen. Gaius smiled against her forehead, trying to catch his breath. "Why do you have to be so beautiful?"
"And why do you have to be so handsome?" she asked as she gazed up at him lovingly.
He smiled and kissed her slowly and passionately, taking her face in his hands. "Wait here while I get changed and then I will fix us something for dinner" he said softly, walking away as her hand slid out of his slowly.
Faith smiled and looked around the house a little, smiling when she came to a scrapbook that Hanna had made for her and her father. She remembered when Miriam and Maya had helped her put it together the day after her adoption went through. The story was sad, but it had a happy ending now that Gaius was Hanna's dad. She didn't even have to be in a foster home because of him being a police officer.
She looked through the scrapbook now finding so many cute photos of them. For only being father and daughter for a short period of time, the two of them looked extremely happy. She heard Gaius coming back downstairs and shut the book gently. She smiled at him happily as he entered the living room.
"Now see. That's the smile I wanted to see earlier today" he said as he walked over to her, brushing some of her hair out of her face.
"Well you make me smile" she said softly as he leaned down to kiss her as she wrapped her arms around his neck.
"What do you feel like eating?" he asked softly as she stood up now, sliding her hands down his chest, taking his hands in her's.
"Italian?" she asked hopefully as he kissed her forehead, leading her to the kitchen.
"Of course!" he said as he placed his hands on her waist, lifting her up onto the counter.
Faith smiled and kissed Gaius once more as she wrapped her arms around his neck. He laughed against her lips. "Well I can't cook anything while I am kissing you" he said playfully, wrapping his arms around her waist now as she smiled up at him.
"It can wait for a bit" she said now, a bright smile on her face.
He smiled and kissed her once more. This time a little more deeply as she placed her hands on his cheeks. Faith knew that she would never again question his love for her.
