As the group followed Isaac's father, everyone but Isaac himself was confused on the path they were taking. It practically felt like they were just getting lost. Lauren whispered to Ashton if they were sure this was the right way. Ashton just scratched her head and shrugged.
"We are here," the halfling randomly announced.
The heroes looked around in question. How at all would there be a cave in the middle of the woods where they stopped? Drew gave a nervous laugh as he went, "Isaac? Can I talk to you for a second?" Before he could respond, Drew quickly pulled Isaac to the side and continued, "We're in the middle of nowhere! Are you sure your dad is, ya know, right in the head?"
"Of course he is," Isaac answered.
Lauren facepalmed as she asked, "Then where's the cave he's talking about?"
Alex rolled his eyes. "That's it. This is all nonsense," he said as he put his short sword back in its sheath. Alex turned around and began walking away stating, "I'm heading back. I doubt this fireproof armor even ex-" Before he could finish, Alex screamed as he fell down a pit.
"Looks like Alex found the entrance," Drew said with a chuckle. He then safely began climbing down after Alex.
Ben looked towards Lauren and Ashton and bowed with a smile as he went, "Ladies first."
Lauren questionably looked at him going, "Ummm, isn't that wrong in this circumstance? I mean, you're basically insisting that we enter a dangerous cave before you."
Ben paused and stood in silence, unaware of how to respond. Both girls clearly weren't fond of Ben's gesture. Out of nowhere, Isaac stepped in stating, "I can go down first and make sure the coast is clear for you ladies."
Once Isaac began climbing down the hole, Lauren went, "Now THAT'S a gentleman!" She then started to follow after, Ashton soon doing the same. Ben just stood with a blank expression before going in the cave as well.
Realizing beyond that point was dark, the gang wondered what to do. Ashton's face lit up as she announced, "I can turn into a bat. Then I can see in the dark and lead you guys." Drew nervously reminded his sister how her powers were weak. Ashton sighed before assuring, "I rested up last night. I believe I can hold my forms for longer now. However, I still can't change into larger forms. A bat should be small enough, though!"
The group nodded as Ashton transformed into a bat. Casually, she led the way. Everyone noticed her stop at a random point, making them all raise their eyebrows. They all looked where she stopped to discover there was an unlit torch on the wall. Drew went over and tried to pry it out of its holding spot. Despite this, he told the others, "It's in there pretty good. I don't think it can be removed from the wall."
"That doesn't mean we can't use it to our advantage," Lauren replied. She then pulled out her ukulele and played a simple tune until the torch ignited. "There! I just casted prestidigitation," Lauren finished.
Drew nodded. This definitely gave them light, but not enough. "I can help," Ben added in. The paladin waved his finger which made the fire brighter so they could see up to 60 feet away. "Ashton can guide the way, Lauren can ignite the torches, and I can make them brighter," Ben concluded.
"Sounds like we've got a plan," Drew said.
The plan continued until Ashton reverted back to her natural form. "We can't go this way!" she cried. Everyone questioned what made her say that. Perhaps she had found the dragon? However, Ashton told them, "There are giant spiders down this path!"
Ben pulled out his sword with a smirk as he went, "Ahhhh, we can take 'em!"
Ashton shook her head, stating how she does NOT handle spiders. Alex paused and replied, "But... you're a druid. Aren't you fond with animals? Heck, can't you even turn into these things?" The druid answered how spiders are the one thing she will NEVER change into, as she is terrified of them. Especially GIANT spiders.
"I'm with Ashton on this one," Isaac said. "Not because I'm scared, but because I don't want to hurt an innocent spider," he finished.
"Innocent!?" Ashton cried. "They have a huge web down there with cocoons holding their past victims."
The group continued to bicker back and forth on whether or not to take a different tunnel. Eventually, one of the giant spiders actually approached from behind. Noticing this, Alex quickly took out his crossbow and shot the spider in the head.
"Nice shot," Ben told his brother. Ashton screamed and ducked as Ben then cut through the spider's abdomen. The spider fell on the floor, completely unconscious. Alex and Ben smirked and high-fived. Ben grabbed Ashton's hand to help her stand back up and went, "See. I told you we got this!"
The heroes continued forth until they reached the group of spiders. About twenty spiders which ranged up to ten feet took up the space. It seemed to be a dead end as their large thick web blocked the rest of the path.
As the rest of the group tried to fight off the spiders, Ashton snuck around them. From there she tried to untangle their large web so everyone could pass through. The druid noticed some green orb sticking out of one of the web cocoons. Curious, she pulled it out to find the orb was actually imbedded in the cross-guard of a sword. The blade was shaped like a giant spider fang and the pommel was designed like a spider with its four back legs being wrapped around the grip. As soon as Ashton grabbed the sword's handle, the orb began to glow. Immediately all of the giant spiders turned to face her. Ashton screamed as she tossed the sword over to her little brother.
Drew caught the sword and the orb glowed once again, making all of the spiders look at him instead. "Why are these guys all staring at me? Gosh, turn around. Please!!" he said. From there, the spiders all faced the opposite direction.
"How did you do that?" Isaac asked.
"I... don't know," Drew replied. The fighter looked back and forth between his new sword and the spiders. "Hmmm... Spin in a circle," he randomly stated. From there, the spiders did exactly that. Drew turned to the bard going, "Lauren, can you identify this object?"
Lauren strummed her ukulele, casting the identify spell. She then announced, "It's called the Arachnid Authority Blade." Lauren went on to explain how whoever wields the sword has control over a group of giant spiders. The green orb glows when activated. She also discovered that the spiders can actually be casted in and out of the orb simply by using the command 'Aranía'.
"Woah! Sweet!!" Drew cried. He paused in thought then said to the spiders, "Get rid of that giant web blocking the path."
Immediately, the spiders went over to the web and began untangling it. As they approached Ashton, she shrieked and fell on the ground. Ben chuckled a bit as he came over and helped Ashton back to her feet. The druid was panting seeing the giant spiders all so close to her. "It's okay," Ben assured with a grin. Ashton questioned how he knew that, making Ben respond, "Well first off, they're under your brother's control now. They won't do anything to you. And second... I'm right here beside you. I'll be here if you need me."
"Yeah, I... I guess so. That doesn't mean they don't look creepy, though!" Ashton replied.
Ben laughed as he pulled Ashton into a hug. "Don't worry, I've got you," he promised. Ashton finally began to smile as she was embraced in his arms. The paladin smiled even more as he looked down at the druid and tucked her hair behind her ear. Ashton looked up making eye contact and giggled a bit before Ben slowly started pulling her in and closing his eyes.
However, out of nowhere Drew called out, "Aranía!" The spiders shrunk down to ant sized and flew by Ashton and Ben, making Ashton scream and jump out of Ben's arms. Ben turned and gave the fighter a very unamused look, so Drew said, "What? The web's gone. I was bringing them back in the orb."
Isaac stopped and randomly stated, "So... what? Do we call you the Spider Fighter now? It kinda rhymes."
Alex shook his head and answered, "Yeah, no. Don't call him that."
