Prologue

"Do your wounds still hurt, Kagome-chan?"

Sango's worried voice wasn't lost on the raven-haired girl, but she slowly shook her head.

"They don't hurt as bad as they did before," she responded, glancing down at her bandaged arms. Hidden beneath her clothing, she had plenty more- the reminders of a deadly final battle against Naraku. The completed Shikon no Tama hung around her neck on a thread fashioned out of twine. It felt warm whenever it met her skin, leaving her feeling so uneasy.

No matter what, she couldn't get rid of it and it was so unnerving. She didn't want it. Not after everything she just had to endure because of it. It was a cursed bauble that would only draw bad things to her, she knew.

She glanced up from the floor beneath her bare feet, blue eyes straying to the brunette seated beside her. She was quiet, worried, and Kagome felt bad for making her worry so much.

They'd nearly lost to Naraku. He managed to overpower them with the help of the portion of the jewel he had. It was almost by some miracle that they even won, but it hadn't been without loss. Their other teammates had fallen to him during that fight, and, hating the idea of leaving her alone, Kagome brought Sango back to the present with her. With a bit of help, the other girl was adjusting well, which was a relief in its own.

Kagome scooted closer to her and curled an arm around her shoulders, tugging her gently into her. Sango leaned in automatically, and they rested their heads against one another, sinking into each other in the silence of the pink-coated room they were in.

Despite everything that had happened, they still had each other, and that was enough for now. Naraku had been defeated, and things were able to return back to how they were meant to be in the past. Everything had been righted, and that was all that mattered.

Sango slowly pulled away and nodded at her, and Kagome soon got what she was getting at. With a wry smile, she slowly eased her loose shirt off her body and turned, offering her bandaged back to her. Sango went to work, slowly peeling off the sullied bandages that were wrapped around her torso. She heard Sango's sharp inhale as she peeled off the final layer.

"At this rate, it's going to leave a bad scar," she commented as she gently dabbed the fresh blood away from the wound. Kagome was silent as she nodded.

What was one more to add, anyway?

She had plenty of scars, after all. It was better to have them and her life than nothing at all.

"Wait here while I go get some fresh gauze," Sango said as she got up, making her way out of her bedroom and presumably to the closet where all the medical supplies was kept. Kagome did as requested, remaining put on the edge of her bed. Kirara hopped up on the empty space beside her, mewling softly until she finally glanced at her. A small smile appeared on her face as she reached to pet her soft, cream-colored fur.

"Don't you get all worried, too," she mumbled softly, gently coaxing Kirara onto her lap as she kept petting between her ears. A smile kept her lips upturned as she closed her eyes and sighed. "I'm fine."

Sango soon rejoined her in her room, a fresh spread of medical supplies clutched securely in her arms. She went to work rebandaging her up, being mindful not to apply too much pressure to her still-open wound.

It was taking a long time for it to heal. Longer than normal, she knew.

She knew her body was taking the time necessary to heal the wounds, that it was taking so long due to the poison eating away at her skin. Her body was trying to purify it first, as well as also trying to keep the wounds from getting too bad. It was split down the middle, working part by part to help her recover with the least amount of residual damage.

She could do nothing more than be patient and wait for it to heal on its own. Her energy was still in the process of recovering, as it was. She couldn't use that to expedite the healing process any. She was stuck at this point, and it was such a terrible feeling.

How much longer was she going to have to put up with them?

"Once your wounds get better, we'll start training again, how about that?" Sango asked after a moment, almost as if she was able to sense Kagome's slightly disparaged mood. Knowing her, she likely was able to. After all they'd been through, they knew each other pretty well. Of course, Sango was able to tell when she was feeling low.

With a weak sigh, Kagome nodded. "That'd be great," she grumbled as she felt Sango disinfect her wound. The stinging wasn't as bad as it had been in the past, at least. Maybe she was getting used to it the more and more it was done.

"It's looking a lot better than before," Sango commented, reaching around Kagome's chest as she started to wrap the gauze around her body. "It shouldn't be much longer, at least," she said. She wrapped the roll of gauze around her over and over again, letting it flatten down her breasts as she worked on covering the entire wound that spread over the space of her back. "The worst part of it is the poison, for now," she added with a knowing hum in her voice. "Once your body is able to purify the rest out, then healing should be overnight."

Kagome nodded, feeling as Sango lowered her hands, finally done with redressing the worst of her wounds. She was quiet for a moment before she turned just enough to glance over her shoulder, a small smile appearing on her face as she glanced at the brunette girl.

"Thanks again, Sango-chan," Kagome said. Sango picked her head up with a faint hum, glancing back at Kagome, brown eyes meeting blue. A second later, a smile appeared on her face, too.

Despite everything, they were still together.

They still had each other, and, because of that, they could smile through the pain that was still fresh beneath the surface.

Auroua-chan: This is another x-over I've really been wanting to do for a while now. This chapter was short, but the following ones will be longer.

Pairing is final. This will lack canon plot, too.

Anyway, that's it for now! Thank you all for reading, and I hope you all enjoyed. Hopefully I caught all the errors before posting, but if not sorry

Please remember to Review&Favorite&Follow, thank you!

Bye for now~
