The taste of dirt in his mouth was the first thing David Miller felt when he opened his eyes. The scrawny brown haired boy let out a yawn after waking himself up from his slumber, feeling how his eyes widened a few seconds later when he realization he wasn't laying on his bed right now. He slowly pushed himself from the ground and rolled to the other side, now having his back on the ground

"What happened? Where am I?" He thought to himself, using his right hand to wipe the dirt off his lips.

He looked around himself a second later, allowing himself to take a better look at his surroundings. Much to his confusion, he only saw trees around him and nothing else. It was when he shook his head, having come up with a possible explanation for this. The last thing he remembered from yesterday was leaving his house to hang out with his friends. His friends must have been playing some kind of prank on him.

"Colin! Troy! If you're trying to trick me into believing I'm lost in the woods, it didn't work! If you're trying to prank me when one of you plays Slenderman or Leatherface, I'll tell you!It won't work on me. You can come out now!" He screamed towards the trees around him, hoping his friends will walk into his view right now. Much to his disappointment no one answered his call, though as he was met with complete silence in response to his calls.

Realizing that there was no one else in this area besides him, he began to search his pockets in order to find his phone. He found it a few seconds later and when he found it, he tried to turn it on. He was once again met with disappointment when he realized it wasn't working. He then reminded himself how he was browsing the internet instead of charging it.

It made him realize how much he hated himself because of it right now.

"I can only blame myself for that. I should just charge it instead of browsing reddit for the memes." He said, feeling angry with himself right now as he put his phone back in his pocket. He put his hand in his other pocket and pulled out what happened to be his wallet. The first things he was inside of it were two small pictures which were folded. He took them out, allowing himself to take a look at them.

The first picture was showing him, his younger brother Bart and his parents. This picture was taken during a grill his family had a year ago. His father, Gregor, was standing over the grill and a huge smile on his face. His mother, Claudia had her hands wrapped around her Bart, standing next to Gregor as David was smilling towards the camera, offering it thumbs up.

The second and last picture was showing him and his friends. This picture was taken during the Halloween party at one of his friends house. His best friend Colin McCreary who was dressed as Tengen Uzui from Demon Slayer had his hands wrapped around David, playfully rubbing his friend. David who was dressed as Tomura Shigaraki from My Hero Academia was looking up at him with a smile on his face. Samantha Fairbanks who was dressed as Mikasa Ackerman from Attack on Titan was standing next to them. She was pointing at Colin and David with an amused smile on her face. The next person in line was Troy Baker who was dressed as Blitzo from Helluva Boss. Jadis Jackson and Brian Anders were dressed as Saul Goodman and Kim Wexler from Better Caul Saul and had their arm wrapped around each other, being the couple of the group. The last person on the picture was Nathan Griffin who was dressed as Heavy from Team Fortress 2.

The last thing he noticed on this picture was an inscription which said.

Friends To The End

He smiled at the view of the pictures, having fond memories of the events shown on those pictures before putting them back in their place in his wallet. He put his wallet back in his pocket and reach into the only pocket he didn't got a chance to check, yet. It was when he pulled out his music device and his black earbuds. A smile grew on his face as soon as he got his hands on them.

"At least I can listen to the music as I will look for a way out of this forest." He thought to himself as he pushed himself into walk, beginning to look for a way out of this forest. He connected his earbuds to his music and would put his earbuds in his ears if it wasn't for something stopping him. He stopped in dead in his tracks when a loud screen of someone echoed above him. He looked up towards the source of this scream and saw a kid who seemed to be about his age fly over his head, "Wait... What?!"

He proceeded to look up for the next several minutes, allowing himself to process what he just saw as he wasn't debating with himself wheter his mind was playing a trick or him or not. He shook his head to himself before several shots rang out in the distance. The sound of it made him give up on the idea of putting his earbuds in his ears, having decided it would be for the best if he could use both of his ears right now.

"It seems like I woke up not too far from the poachers." He theorized internally, knowing it was the most rational explanation to his situation right now. It still wouldn't explain the kid who flew above his head a moment ago. Knowing there was only one way he could get answer to the question going through his mind right now, he proceeded to walk forward himself, hoping to find a way out of this forest as soon as possible.

David continued to make his way through the forest for the next several minutes and continued his attempts at locating his way out there, having not come across anything unusual for those past several minutes. Everything changed when until he came across a ruins of a temple with small column which had chess pieces on it at the bases of it. He ran up to them and picked up one of the pieces, eyeing it for a moment. He could tell that someone was here before him, because some of the column didn't have any pieces on them.

"Chess pieces? What are they doing in the middle of the forest?" David asked himself, feeling how this situation just became way more confusing to him. He held one of the pieces up, eyeing it carefully. An amused chuckle left his mouth as he reminded himself of the funny memory of the time when his friend Samantha allowed Troy to have a round of chess with her, even though she knew how it was going to end, "Oh, Troy. You were lucky enough that she didn't suffocate you for not moving for more than fifteen minutes."

His thoughts were quickly interrupted when two girls he had never seen before in his life came out of the forest. The first one had blond hair and purple eyes. She wore brown jacket and shorts. She had something that looked like a gauntlets on her hands. The other girl had black hair, yellow eyes. She wore black and white clothes, and had a ribbon on her head. She also had knife-type weapon.

"Oh, it seems like someone arrived here before us." The blond haired one observed as she and her friend started walking towards him. She waved at him in a friendly manner a few seconds later, "Hellooo!"

"How did you get here so fast?" The black haired asked with curiosity evident in her voice and on her voice.

"What are they talking about?" David thought to himself to himself, genuinely confused over what these two girls just said to him.

"I'm Yang. The girl next to me is Blake. Who are you?" Yang introduced herself and her partner to David in a friendly manner, raising her brow after uttering her question as Blake's question went without an answer because David had no idea what he should say to them as his confusion was getting the best of him. If he was honest with himself, he couldn't even remember the last time when he was that confused.

A moment had to pass until he composed himself and brought himself to answer to their question, "I'm David. David Miller. Can you tell me wh..."

He didn't got a chance to ask them the questin she wanted to ask them which would most likely help him figure out what was happening around him. He was cut off before could finish what he was saying when he and the two girls he had just stumbled upon heard the sound of roars and snarls from behind them. He wasted no time and turned to the source of these sounds and saw a strange bear-like creature he had never seen before, standing on it's legs. The two girls in front of him prepared themselves for battle at the view of this creature.

"YEEEHAW!" A female voice cried out before the large beast collapsed on the ground, revealing to have been carrying an orange haired girl on it's back. The orange haired girl fell off of it as soon as the black creature hit the ground, "Aww, it's broken." She pouted in a saddened manner as she hopped on the top of it's body, eyeing it curiously, "Ewwww...

"Nora" A male voice called out to the orange haired girl now named Nora. It was when a male teenager with black haire made himself known to David's view. He panted as he glanced at Nora, "Please. Don't do that again."

He looked up at the place where the girl was just a moment ago and much to his confusion, he saw that she was gone, having vanished from his in the blink of an eye. He wasted no time and looked around himself in seach for her. He didn't have to look for her for long. She was standing in front of the colums, looking down at one of the pieces.

"Ohh..." She said as she picked up a piece and put it on her head. She began chanting to herself right after, "I'm queen of the castle! I'm queen of the castle!"

"Nora!" Her friend called out fo rher.

"Coming Ren!" Nora stopped what she was doing as she saluted at her partner. She dropped the piece from her into her hand and skipped over to her partner.

"Did that girl just ride in on an Ursa?" Blake asked, wanting to be sure if her eyes weren't playing a trick on her as she pointed at Nora.

"...What was that thing?" David asked. He didn't know which part was more confusing. The part where this black creature had just ran in his view and or the part this Nora girl just rode on it like it was nothing.

"Wait. You've never seen an Ursa before?" Yang shifted her attention to him, looking at him with a confused look on her face. The boy she and Blake had just encountered seemed to be around their age and yet she had never seen an Ursa before?

"...No?" David answered as he rubbed the back of his head with an uncertain look on his face, "Should I?"

"AAAAAAHHHHHH!" It was when a very loud-pitched voice echoed across the area, preventing Yang from answering to his question.

"Some girls is in trouble?" David thought to himself. His mind continued trying to process what was happening around him right now and the effects were slim to none at th emoment.

Blake pointed towards the sky, "Uh, guys."

Yang looked up and saw a familiar person to her, "Ruby!"

"Who?' David asked as he looked up and saw a girl falling down from the sky, "What the..."

"HEEEEAAAADS UP!" The dark haired girl who was falling from the sky had yelled out before a yellow blur flew in her, causing both her and the other person to crash into a tree.

Blake raised her brow at the scene, "Did your sister just fall of the sky?"

"I..." Yang didn't had a chance to say anything about this as a red-headed teenage girl ran out of the forest. It didn't took the others long to find out what she was running away from . It was when a black scorpio creature ran into everyone's view. As the red-haired girl brought up her shield and started to defend herself against one of the pincers which threw her back, the girl who just fell off the sky, who as David remembered was called Ruby by Yang snapped herself out of her daze and looked what was happening in front of her,

"Oh crap!" She said as she jumped up, "Sorry Jaune! Be right back!"

"W-wait! Ruby!" David assumed this voice belonged to this "Jaune" guy this Ruby girl had mentioned a second earlier as Ruby started leaping up from the tree, using the recoil of her gun to launch herself forward, speeding towards the rest. She tumbled through the ground, until they reached Yang, Blake, David and the others.

"Ruby!" Yang cheered, running up to hug her sister.

"Yang!" Ruby cried, leaping up to her feet.

"Nora!" The ginger girl jumped in between them as the red-haired girl proceeded to run away from the large scorpio.

"Did she just came here with a Deathstalker on her trail?" Blake asked.

David looked at her with a confused look on his face, becoming more confused by what was happening around him with each passing moment, "A what now?"

"Grr..." Yang growled as her eyes reddened, "I can't take it anymore! Can't everyone just chill out for like, two seconds before something crazy happens?!"

She got the silence and a moment to 'chill out' she was asking for as soon as she uttered those words. Everyone stared ahead of themselves, remaining silent. Her silence didn't last long, though as Ruby poked her sister on her arm two times as a way of gaining her attention.

"Um... Yang." She called out for her as she pointed upwards. Yang looked up, glancing in the direction she was pointing at and Blake and Ren followed her example and looked up as well. David looked up towards the sky as well and saw a white-haired girl, who was hanging onto the flying's creature feather for life.

"How could you leave me?" She asked, gazing down at the group of her peers below her.

"I said jump." Ruby replied, raising her voice a little to make sure the white haired girl will hear her.

"She's gonna fall." Blake stated.

Ren nodded in agreement, "She's falling."

"Should we do something about it?" David rubbed the back of his head, "She'll die if she will fall from such a height."

"She'll be fine." Ruby waved it off, "She has her aura, after all."

David raised his brow at her, "Her what?"

"Her aura." Ruby repeated herself and looked at him questioningly, "You don't know what an aura is?"

"No." David shook his head, "Should I?"

Yang looked at David with a confused look on her face, growing more confused about the guy she had encountered with Blake the more words left his mouth, "What? You don't know what a grimm is. You know know what an aura is. Have you been living under a rock for your entire life?"

David once again rubbed the back of his head, his confusion reaching new heights upon learning those things were a common knowledge to the people around him, "Uhm..."

As the white haired girl continued to fall to the ground, Jaune finally managed to remove himself from whatever was holding him and saw her falling down. A grin grew on his face as he leaped himself forward with the intention of catching her before she hit the ground. He managed to accomplish his goal as he managed to catch her before she hit the ground.

"Just dropping in." He told her with a grin on his face. It took him a second to remember that they were still in the air, "Oh God..." He and Weiss clutched themselves tightly, before they fell on the ground, "Nooo...!"

Jaune was the first one from both of the to land on the ground. He let out a painful grunt as his body collided with the ground. He was forced to let out another painful frunt as the white haired girl landed on his back.

"My hero." She told him, eyeing her nails.

Jaune groaned in pain, "My back..."

"Great!" Yang shouted as the red-haired girl was knocked away by the scorpio and landed in front of her, Blake, Ruby, David and Ren, "The gang's all here. Now we can die together!"

"Not if I can help it." Ruby cried as she launched herself forward towards the scorpio.

"Ruby! Wait!" Yang called after her as Ruby reached for her weapon which appeared to be a large scythe. Her weapon let out a long "BANG!" at the scorpio a moment after before the scorpio swung it's pincer at her, knocking her away. When she stood up, she shot once again at it just a second before a large bird threw giants feather at her hood, pinning her to the ground by her hood.

"Ruby get out of there!" Yang shouted, now standing between two feathers.

"I'm trying!" Ruby shouted as she looked at the scorpio. It was when it reared back it's stinger, intent on attacking her, and she readied herself for whatever was going to happen. She shut her eyes, waiting for it, but nothing happened.

"Your so childlish!" She recognized the voice and opened her eyes, and saw the white haired girl, who blocked the attack of the scorpio by freezing scorpio's stinger, "And dim-witted, and hyperactive." She continued, glaring down at the girl below her, "... and don't even get me started on your fighting style." She paused for as secong, "And I suppose. I can be a bit... difficult. But if we're going to do this, we're gonna have to do this together, so if you quit trying to show off. I'll be... nicer."

Ruby gazed down atthe ground, "I'm not trying to show off. I want you guys to know I can do this."

"You're fine." The white haired girl stated, walking back to the rest.

"Okay, so, what now? That thing is circling back." Jaune asked as Yang, Ruby and the white haired girl rejoined them.

''We grab the relics and go." Ruby said, "Our task is to retrieve the relics, not to fight the Grimm."

"So, run and live... that's the plan I can get behind." Jaune said.

"Yeah. Me too." David voiced his agreement with the plan as he dropped his chess piece on the ground and pushed himself into run away from them. He just wanted to get out of here as soon and possible and finally get the answers to what was going on around him he was really looking forward to get. If this was a dream, it was sure a strange one.

'You dropped your relic!" Ruby shouted to him as she watched him distance himself from her and the rest.

"Take it if you want to! I don't need it! It's the last thing that I have to worry about right now!" David replied as he continued to run forward himself, hoping to get as far as he can from these creatures.

Ruby looked at him strangely, not understanding his action land looked at Yang with a questioning look on her face, silently asking her to make a sense out of his actions. The blond haired girl shrugged her shoulders at her, letting her know she was as much confused as she was without saying anything to her. Ruby looked away from her and reached down to pick up David's chess piece from the ground right after as Jaune took his own piece from the temple.

"Time we left." Ren declared.

"Right, let's go." Ruby agreed as she pushed herself into run, beginning to make her way in the direction David had just ran towards.

The rest of the group followed her example and pushed themselves into run, following her. The group catched up to David a moment later and all of them proceeded to make their way forward for the next few moments, managing to make their way into a much larger area a few moments later. Everyone allowed themselves to take a good look around the area they had just ran into, seeing ruins and a great ravive ahead of them.

As Ruby, Yang, Blake, the white haired girl, Jaune, Ren and Nora prepared themselves to fight the creatures going after them, David hid himself behind a column as he knew it would be a suicide for him if he tried to fight off the black creatures with his zero fighting skills. He remained hidden behind the column for the next several minutes, waiting for the fight to end.

He didn't even try to take a peek at the fight going on around him as he didn't want to risk those black creatures spotting him. He had no idea what they were, but he was sure that at least one of them would take the opportunity after seeing that he was currently alone. He just waited for the fight to end. Or if this whole situation was truly a dream, he waited for it to end.

When the fight finally ended, he came out of from his hiding place and made his way to the people he had encountered after waking up in the forest. Everyone shifted their attention to David, having just heard him running towards them as he made his way to them. He stopped in front of them and shifted his gaze between all fo them with a questioning look on his face before breaking the silence.

"Now that everyone is safe." He said, breaking the silence between them, "Can someone please explain to me what the hell is going on here?"

EDIT 26.03.2023: I've rewritten some parts of this chapter as a way of getting back to this story and did a small change when I changed the timeline of this story from 2019 to 2023.

Hope it wasn't that bad, and see you in another chapter.
