'Kyrie, why were you in Nero's room?' Kyle had let his curiosity get the better of him at the most inopportune moment. Kyrie was a buzz with new feelings, a high from her actions and the panic from getting up so, so late.
'Uh, I was saying good morning to Nero.' The kids busied themselves with grabbing cutlery and plates for setting the table. Kyle, as the oldest, didn't seem impressed with the response.
'Then why did you run out of his room so quickly. And why did you get up so late?'
'I'm sorry, sweetheart, but I was just having an off morning. Just slept in and realised how late it was when you called out.' It wasn't exactly a lie. Seemingly satisfied, the table was set, and the kids sat in waiting. Nico dragged her feet and fell into the closest chair next to Carlo and ruffled his hair to start the morning pestering. Nero wasn't in the vicinity so the little brats would do.
'Mornin', Kyrie,' the Gunsmith stifled a yawn before probing the poor girl cooking eggs and toast. 'Have fun last night?'
'Nico, there are minors in the room.' Plating up the first two breakfasts kept her eyes from murdering her guest.
'I'm yet t' hear a no.' Nico raised her brow in a challenging opposition ready to fire back at anything Kyrie would say.
'That's because I am happy to discuss adult matters when it's just adults present.'
'I- uh...,' This was completely against what the loudmouth had imagined she would say. 'Okay. I'll wait.'
'Thank-you, Nico. Now, how do you like your eggs?'
'Scrambled.' Kyrie nodded and went back to finishing all the food. Her humming was cheerful and rang through their home. Nero decided that he would make an appearance with arms full of clothes for the kids.
'Here ya go. Make sure to thank Kyrie for getting all your clothes cleaned, okay?'
'Yes.' the kids chimed in together. He wanted them all to appreciate his girlfriend. She worked so hard. He took one look at Nico and proceeded to avoid the stare of complete disbelief and walked out into the lounge. There was clearly a lot of cleaning to be done there and it needed to happen right now. He couldn't hide forever.
'I'll give ya a hand cleanin'. Be back 'n a minute, Kyrie.'
'You hate cleaning! Just sit and eat.'
'Nonsense. I love t' help.' Nero thrust his hands into his pocket and threw his head back in disbelief mixed with frustration.
"Now is the wrong time to be helpful", he thought while pacing across the wooden floor to the lounge. His arms crossed his chest, and he stopped right out of Kyrie's earshot. 'I am not interested in saying anything to you right now. Your shit-eating grin is making me uncomfortable.'
'Well, just run back t' y' girl to make y'self comfortable again. You both are so unsubtle th' kids even noticed.' Nico watched as Nero picked up the pieces of the fort from last night and began packing it away. 'Did ya use protection? Don't go trappin' th' poor girl.'
'Nico, I swear t-'
'NERO!' Kyrie wasn't pleased. He was being way to careless with his words and this ass of a partner wasn't helping.
'Sorry!' he lowered his voice once more and spoke just to Nico. 'I am not trapping anybody. And no, no protection was used. That's because it didn't happen. So don't pester.'
'Her actions this mornin' say otherwise.'
'What actions?'
'She's all cheery and hummin' n' shit. She even responded to my probin' politely with every intention to spill th' beans. Nero, somethin' clearly happened.'
'Yes, something happened, but it was not that. Plus, Kyrie is always cheerful.' Her arms crossed loosely over her chest, and she began tapping her foot considering her next move. Probe the shithead or move onto little miss innocent. It was an easy decision.
'Okay, I'll leave ya t' y' duties. Y' should join us for breakfast once th' kids 're off t' school. I'm sure th' conversation'll be riveting.' With that she spun on her heels and rejoined the others to eat.
'Where does she get off?' he breathed out in frustration. Out the corner of his eye he could see his love doting on their little family. She was light on her feet bringing plates and napkins out for everyone. Humming sweetly as she shuffled food around in her pan. She was gorgeous. And clearly in a wonderful mood despite how embarrassed she was earlier. It made Nero's heart skip a beat watching how positive this morning had been on her. He was so worried that she would not know what to do or how to act after such a big jump in their relationship. But clearly Kyrie knew exactly how to act, and he was the one needing to cool his head and compose himself. It was a great morning. 'Let's not lose face now!' he thought out loud.
'What's up, Nero?'
'Nothing, Kyrie. I'll just be a moment and then I'll join you all. Also, kids; get dressed for school. I'll walk you down when you're done.'
