Synopsis: Nepgear is a high school girl who is really popular in the school at the expense of her best friend, Uni. Many people in the school try to win her heart, making Uni really uncomfortable. Will Uni manage to confess her feelings before someone else does? Or will her heart be shattered into pieces by the failure of not confessing in time?
Gamicademi was known as a prestigious school and the best in the world; it had various clubs, numerous students, and offered the best education, ensuring those who studied there would have a great future ahead of them.
Moreover, there was their popularity among the students of each grade. For instance, Noire was popular among the students of the twelfth grade. As the vice president council, she was appreciated for her seriousness and her beauty, even though she was equal to Vert in the eyes of some students, the president council.
Uni, her younger sister often complained about her older sister's popularity, as she had to deal with countless love letters from admirers; however, she had rejected them all. Despite this, the persistent suitors continued to pursue her, seemingly loving the cold rejections of the older tsundere. But it wasn't really the main preoccupation of the younger sister.
"Aaah..." Uni desperately sighed, but it wasn't unnoticed by her best friend Nepgear. The one whom she was eating lunch with on the roof of the school.
The two girls always ate together during breakfast; their favorite time spent on the roof, where there were fewer people, making it one of Uni's favorite moments to spend time with Nepgear. Both were sitting on a bench and eating rice balls. However, Uni was today preoccupied with a problem, not only today but also since the very first day of school.
"What happened, Uni?" asked the pink-haired girl, her tone a bit deeper than usual as she spoke while still munching on her ball of rice. Her question caused Uni to blush, either because of the unexpectedness of the question or perhaps due to her sudden deep voice. Even though her voice was misunderstood, Uni still managed to understand her.
"I-it's nothing, I was just thinking about Noire," lied Uni while crushing her ball of rice in her hand; she didn't want Nepgear to know her true reason for her behavior. But Nepgear, despite being naive, always knew when Uni was hiding something from her. After all, she had been her best friend for a long time.
"Are you sure?" Nepgear tried to dig deeper into the matter. As soon as Nepgear finished lunch, she got closer to Uni with a determined face, hoping that Uni would open up her heart and tell her everything. As she saw Nepgear getting closer to her, Uni blushed even more strongly, and her arms started shaking from shyness and embarrassment.
Her face was really red, Uni thought her friend might kiss her; although it was embarrassing for her, she hoped it would happen. She had always been in love with Nepgear and never stopped dreaming about how their relationship would evolve, but due to her tsundere behavior, she never admitted in front of her friend how much she cared for her. And yet, since they were both in the same school, problems occurred for the tsundere girl to not make things easier for her.
'Ding Dong' the bell rang, saving the girl from a tragic accident by revealing her problems to Nepgear. As soon as the doorbell rang, they both stood up and prepared to leave for class.
"It looks like it's already time to head back to class," said Nepgear as she was on her way out. "Uni, I hope you'll tell me what disturbed you; I'll see you later!" she told her friend, who was still recovering from being discovered by her dearest friend.
"Y-yeah, I'll see you later," replied Uni, as she headed to class, wondering which excuse she would use to avoid the future questions from her friend.
On one hand, she knew she would never admit such an embarrassing situation to her friend; on the other hand, she was glad that her friend always cared about all of her problems. However, this thought unintentionally hurt her as it made her believe that Nepgear only considered her a friend, making her feel like the eternal best friend with no chance of ever becoming anything more than that.
Besides that, since they both entered this school, Uni rarely spent time with Nepgear due to some problems. The times when they were spending much time together really missed Uni, but things evolved and now Nepgear had taken more independence; Uni wasn't the center of Nepgear's attention anymore. Maybe because Nepgear wanted to show her sister how much she had grown.
In this school, Nepgear had her own club and worked really hard for her future. But her hard work wasn't the only problem that Uni had to deal with; there were many other obstacles standing in her way.
I probably need some advice... I wonder if Blanc could help me out with this... thought the girl as she crossed the noisy hallways of the school; the tsundere was pretty careless as she didn't pay attention to the students who were walking in the hallway, increasing the risk of bumping into someone. But she somehow reached the classroom without encountering any misadventures on her way.
During the next class break, Uni hurried herself to go into the library, as this was the place where Blanc could usually be found; the girl knew that Blanc was a calm girl for the most part, but she could also be really scary when she got angry, mostly if you disturbed her during her reading time. Everyone had noticed that she got easily into that mood due to her younger sisters and it was much easier to anger her because of the responsibility of being the oldest sister.
Uni barely remembered the last time she got angry. Her sisters had drawn all over the books she had borrowed from the library, forcing her to pay for their damages, and she had stormed into their school to scold them. She even made Uni and Nepgear so frightened that they both passed out and forgot what Blanc had done before going to their school. Neptune had said it was a living hell. At least the enraged girl had apologized to the unwitting victims, after being punished by both Noire and Vert.
When Uni finally reached the door of the library and found it open, revealing the inside, she noticed that nobody was there; usually, a large number of students came here to study, but it seemed as if the library was closed, or at least that's what Uni thought until she heard loud noises coming from inside. Curious, she headed inside, getting closer to the source of the noise.
"You're ready, Noire?" a voice said, as Uni approached to see what was happening. She could see that the voice seemed to belong to Neptune. In order to satisfy her curiosity, Uni just attended the scene as she heard Noire's name.
"Y-you are sure you want me to do this?" asked a panicked Noire. By her tone, Uni could tell she was unsure, since she couldn't see her yet.
"Come on! You'll be great," encouraged Neptune. The girl was really excited about something. The experienced tsundere finally revealed herself in a wedding dress, holding a bridal bouquet in her hands. Uni just had her jaw dropped seeing that; she had never imagined Noire doing something like that. She had an idea in her head, but rationalized thinking it was just cosplay and not anything serious.
"See?" exclaimed an excited Neptune while being impressed by Noire's beauty. "I knew you would look perfect in this outfit." added Neptune, embarrassing even more the tsundere, but after all, it was Noire who had asked for this. Noire was either regretting her choice or enjoying it; she was mixed between both emotions.
"I-I guess I'll have to thank you for training me until the day of our wedding," replied Noire, her cheeks flushing red. Uni had just blushed so hard at that statement, but she didn't want to believe it until she saw Neptune kiss Noire on the mouth.
"Of course I'll help my girlfriend, but I never thought you needed to book the entire library for that," said Neptune as she hugged Noire, who couldn't hide her emotions. "You're always taking things so seriously, you really do love me !" added Neptune. The compliment from the girl was effective on Noire.
"I-I just wanted to do it in a peaceful place, so don't get the wrong idea!" she exclaimed, looking away and trying to calm down. The two lovebirds were enjoying each other's company until...
"So this is what you two do when you're alone, huh?" Uni asked, drawing the attention of the two girls. At least, Uni knew the reason behind Noire's rejection, she was already in a relationship even though she wondered why with Neptune.
"Uh, Uni! What are you doing here? Didn't you see the sign 'booked' on the door?" asked a stressed-out Noire, ashamed of getting caught by her own sister.
"Oops, I probably forgot to put up the sign on the door," said Neptune as she pulled a dumb face. She probably meant to do it on purpose since she was looking away and whistling innocently.
"W-what?! Why did you do that?" responded Noire, stunned by Neptune's stupidity. Sometimes she wondered why she had chosen someone so childish, but she couldn't explain it; her heart had chosen her, and that was all.
"But this is not a story without the main character getting caught while doing something embarrassing," insisted Neptune in an attempt to defend herself, but it seemed that Noire was becoming so stunned that she could have passed out at any moment.
"How stupid are you?" shouted Noire. "At least, you're not the leader of a nation; it would be so embarrassing to be your girlfriend!" continued Noire, as the two continued their argument. Uni could just smile at her sister being happy, but she felt somewhat jealous that she wasn't like them with Nepgear.
"That's so mean, Noire!" retorted Neptune, pretending to be angry. "Why did you book a whole library, eh? You could have practiced anywhere else, you know?" continued the girl as she started to cling to Noire's arm, causing the other girl to drop the flowers she was holding.
"I...it was the only place I could afford," admitted Noire. She could have booked a better place, but since she was with Neptune, she ended up spending more money than she had before on her. She had exceeded Nepgear's skill at spoiling Neptune.
"That aside, do both of you know where to find Blanc?" asked Uni a bit embarrassed as she imagined things between them, she wanted to know how long they had been a couple but quickly moved on since it wasn't her main topic, the couple directed their eyes on her due to her demand.
"Blanc? I think she's reading on the roof," replied Neptune. "But why though?" asked the girl, but Uni just ran out of the library without responding, leaving the couple alone.
"Oh..." said Neptune. "You should have said that Blanc wasn't in the mood today; you know how my sister gets when she has an idea, stubborn as hell." replied Noire while holding Neptune's hand.
"You mean as stubborn as you, Noire," Neptune concluded, hurting Noire's pride. The two soon continued on their own business.
On her way to meet Blanc, Uni crossed the hallway and then accidentally arrived at the doorstep of the robotics club where Nepgear was a member. Watching through the window on the door, she saw that Nepgear was doing well; as a robots enthusiast, she was obviously enjoying her time there. Seeing her smile made her heart feel warm.
However, there was a problem that Uni was facing; it concerned Nepgear's popularity. She was the most loved in their grade. As a kind, servile, beautiful, and passionate girl, she immediately attracted everyone's attention since the first day of school. Uni could say she had eclipsed Neptune in popularity as she was the most mature among them.
Nepgear had even managed, simply by her presence, to greatly improve the robotics club's reputation, which was now one of the most famous clubs in the entire school, while Uni's airsoft club paled in comparison. It wouldn't surprise her if every boy in the school confessed their feelings for Nepgear; Uni felt like an ant next to that kind of competition.
"Nepgear would never choose someone like me..." mumbled Uni, feeling a bit down about it. "But, somehow I don't want to lose out on them, which is why I'll try my best for her." assured Uni, hoping for a bit of chance to win over Nepgear's heart. She was now determined, but first she needed some advice since she knew nothing about love.
With a renewed motivation, she restarted her run to Blanc, expecting her to provide some useful advice.
As Uni got closer to the roof, she could feel some bad vibes; it seemed that someone was a bit irritated and was giving off a murderous aura. That made Uni's spine tingle, but she didn't care and was ready to face anything on her way.
As Uni entered the roof, she put on a dumb face when she saw an irate Blanc. The unavailable library was surely the reason behind her anger. Her aura could be also seen at that point; she seemed to be reading, but at the same time, she was enumerating an endless list of swear words. How could she read while cursing at the same time?
Uni finally found the courage to approach Blanc, and awkwardly said, "H-Hello, B-Blanc. Could we talk for a bit? I need your help with something." Blanc immediately snapped out of her trance and looked up at Uni with a death stare. The tsundere tried to avoid that stare, but it was useless as she felt like she was being stared through her soul.
"Damn, it must be important to interrupt me while I'm reading," said the girl, her face looking very serious. Uni thought for a moment about what she could say to make it seem like she wasn't bothering her. "Spit it out already!" impatiently added Blanc as she saw Uni taking too long to respond. The tsundere immediately stood straight as she began to obey Blanc.
"I NEED YOUR HELP TO WIN NEPGEAR'S HEART!" screamed Uni, her face flushed and eyes wide as she struggled to control herself. Her voice sounded like an echo, but hopefully nobody else besides Blanc could hear it from the rooftop.
The silence overwhelmed the place; Uni looked down in shame, she thought she was screwed, but before doing anything else, she heard Blanc get up from her seat.
"I've always known it!" she exclaimed enthusiastically, breaking the silence. The girl had regained her typical composure and was amused by Uni's declaration, as she had always seen them more than just friends.
"W-what?" Uni said with her red face, looking up at Blanc. She was somehow impressed by Blanc's mood swing, but she had never thought her feelings for Nepgear were that obvious.
"It was pretty obvious by the way you acted around her," Calmly added Blanc. "Even Rom and Ram had figured it out." True enough, whenever Uni visited the twins with Nepgear, Ram was always the first one to tease Uni about her feelings for Nepgear. It had always been one of the most embarrassing moments in her life.
"Enough! I get it that everything was obvious, so how should I proceed with Nepgear?" replied Uni, who was even more embarrassed by the situation. If Blanc, Rom and Ram had figured everything out, then she assumed that Noire and Vert would have too. But Nepgear and Neptune were probably too dense to understand this.
"There are no many solutions," said Blanc, making Uni a bit anxious, but she was curious and eager to know the answer; she tightly clenched her hands, making them to shake. "For someone like Nepgear...you will have to be honest and confess your feelings to her." advised Blanc.
Her response made Uni go through the stage of embarrassment; being honest seemed impossible for her, but Blanc was certainly right – someone as dense as Nepgear would never understand hints that had been given to her.
"Really? But I've already tried to be honest with her...I can't seem to muster up the courage to confess my feelings to her..." said a discouraged Uni. She knew she would have to open her heart to Nepgear, but it was so hard; what if she rejected her, or worse, despised her for going beyond friendship? These kinds of thoughts made her hide her true feelings deep within her heart, and suffer from them. Nepgear even noticed her suffering, which made her worry.
"I know it's hard, but you have no choice; you must confess your feelings to Nepgear from now on. Among all her admirers, that girl, Maho from the eleventh grade, has expressed interest in her." responded Blanc. "Besides that, I've always shipped you two together, like the people who read that fanfiction," concluded Blanc as she broke the fourth wall; it seemed that Neptune, no matter the universe she was in, influenced her friend into breaking the fourth wall.
"I-I guess, I will give it a try...thank you Blanc for your advice," said the girl, displaying a small smile, she soon returned inside the school leaving Blanc alone with a satisfied face.
Uni knew that Blanc was right, she had to confess everything to Nepgear and accept a possible rejection rather than suffer in silence because she went out with somebody else without telling her feelings; at that point, a rejection was better than the regret of never saying anything.
In the hallway of the school, she saw Nepgear who apparently had finished her business in her club, but she was surrounded by a lot of admirers.
"Thank you so much for your help," said a boy from her club. "You really deserve to have someone to love," said another boy. All the boys seemed a bit clingy towards Nepgear, making her feel uncomfortable. As she saw that Uni wanted to take Nepgear's hand and drag her away from there, however...
"Ah, you were here, Nepgear!" said a cheerful voice, soon a girl grabbed Nepgear's arm, revealing herself to be Maho.
"Oh hi, Maho!" exclaimed Nepgear with a smile on her face. "It's been a long time since we last saw each other, hasn't it?" The girl emitted a shining aura. She was really happy to see one of her greatest friend.
"You bet! I was so busy with that project for school that I didn't see all the cool things you've made in your club," replied the cheerful girl as she strengthened her grip on Nepgear's arm.
"So, you wanna see what I've been working on?" she asked impatiently, eager for a response.
"Of course, I am always curious about everything you do," replied Nepgear with sparks of admiration in her eyes. When Maho returned to see her, she was always curious and admiring of all her work.
"So, boys, doesn't it bother you if I borrow Nepgear for some time?" asked Maho while watching all the boys blush. The boys were whispering among themselves because they didn't know that Nepgear was friends with Maho, the most popular girl in the eleventh grade. Maho was known to be really sociable and quickly make friends with everyone. Not only did Nepgear know Noire and Vert, but she also had a close friendship with Maho.
"Of course it will be a pleasure to leave you alone for a while," a boy said as soon as the crowd who had been gathering scattered away; the girl headed to Maho's class, but on the way Nepgear noticed Uni who had been watching the entire scene.
"Oh, Uni!" exclaimed Nepgear as she naturally approached her along with Maho who was still holding her arm; she was really glad to see her again. But Uni just put on a dark expression on her face. She was visibly really upset for some reason.
"How are you going?" asked Nepgear with her typical smile on her face. "Are you planning to go to your airsoft club today?" she inquired, to which Uni just nodded her head without the strength to respond.
"So, you wanna join us, I also have to show you the project I've been working on all this time," proposed Maho, with her excitement, but Uni was about to explode on her if she kept talking like that.
"No thank you, I'll pass this time," she simply said. Her tone indicated she was really annoyed and she was about to leave them to avoid any quarrel, but...
"Oh, come on! Don't be so cold; I'm sure you will have fun," said Maho as she tried to grab Uni's arm. However, Uni aggressively rejected her by slapping her hand away. As a result, Maho received a little pain in her hand.
"Ow! That hurt; why did you do that?" exclaimed Maho as she caressed her injured hand to suppress the pain.
"This is not your concern!" Harshly responded Uni, seeing her friend in such a state of mind. Nepgear had been concerned about her friend's behavior for a long time; it first started on the first day of school, but since she had befriended Maho it had gotten worse.
"Oh, goodness...," Nepgear said, looking at her best friend with concern in her eyes. "Uni, can you please tell me what's going on with you?" she asked, on the verge of tears. "You've been acting strange ever since we entered this school; did I do something to upset you?" Nepgear worriedly thought about the worst-case scenario—that her friend might hate her for reasons she didn't know, or perhaps it was because they hadn't spent as much time together lately.
"Cut it out already! Even if I tell you everything, you will never understand my position!" snapped Uni to Nepgear. "You're just an idiot!" As soon as she said that, Uni looked at Nepgear who was crying, realized what she had done, couldn't face the guilt of her actions, and ran away to the airsoft club.
"Wait...Uni...don't leave me," said Nepgear, her voice barely audible through her tears. "Tell me...does Uni hate me ?" Nepgear asked her friend, who was trying her best to comfort her. But the girl couldn't stop crying and was blaming herself for being so stupid and ignorant.
"No, I don't think so," replied her friend. Maho knew somehow why Uni was acting this way; she believed it was because Uni was jealous of the people who were too close with Nepgear, and Maho was one of them. She felt bad because she had stolen all of Nepgear's attention away from Uni.
Uni had been staying at the airsoft club for hours, skipping classes, she didn't even have the will to practice her skills; she felt guilty over his actions towards Nepgear. "No, I am the one who is stupid here..." In her lamentation, Uni let those words come out of her mouth.
She should have told Nepgear her feelings; it was the perfect moment, but she lost it when she saw Maho being clingy with Nepgear. It wasn't the fault of Maho or Nepgear, it was her own fault for not being honest with herself. Why was it so hard to say it? Why did she always end up hurting Nepgear? Sometimes she wished she could be as confident as Maho; she wished she was the one to grab Nepgear's arm. But it was impossible - she could never be like Maho, this girl was popular in her grade, had a lot of friends, and was fun unlike her.
She soon began to cry, fearing that Nepgear would hate her now. Tears started to flow down her cheeks and fell onto her school uniform. She felt miserable for being so stubborn and so prideful.
"Why are you crying?" A voice attracted her attention, and before her eyes, she saw two figures who appeared to be Noire and Neptune.
"N-Noire and Neptune, what are you doing here!" yelled Uni as she started to wipe her tears, pretending that nothing had happened.
Noire said, "I have received reports that you were absent from class." Of course, Vert had to be the one to tell her since she was the Student Council President and would already be aware of any absences, and since Noire was the Student Council Vice President she would be informed of any suspicious behavior.
"Aww, Uni!" Neptune exclaimed. "Don't you want to tell us? You've been missing for hours." The girl added, "And, you look so sad." Uni was shocked that Neptune had shown concern for her; usually, Nepgear was always the one to try to comfort her.
"Let me guess, this is about Nep.Jr., right? asked Neptune since Uni was unwilling to respond by herself; Uni nodded in agreement of the Nepgear's sister's question.
"So, what happened?" asked Noire, wanting to know what disturbed her sister so much, even though she had already formed a concrete idea in her head. Despite being busy with her work most of the time, Noire always tried her best to be as available as possible to take care of her sister.
Unni sighed and decided to confess everything that had been bothering her since the first day of school; she told everything without missing a single detail. The two seniors just listened to her in silence.
"A love matter, huh? As expected...," said Noire as she nodded with a closed eye. Meanwhile, Neptune had struggled to keep up with Uni's complaints; it seemed that the main character could barely handle the overwhelming amount of information flooding her brain. The head of the girl was giving off smoke from her ears.
"W-what? You mean you're in love with Nep.Jr.?" asked Neptune. It was the first thing she could think of to say. "I thought you were just both Mega Super Ultra best friends; my ultra brain didn't see that coming." Neptune didn't really understand everything but she clearly retained that one piece of information from Uni.
"Stop showing off, Neptune!" shouted Noire, as she turned her attention back to her. "You can't even do a simple addition; what were you expecting from your nonsense?" Sometimes, she couldn't believe how dumb her girlfriend was, hoping she would one day undergo a transformation that would make her look more mature and intelligent.
"I may be dumb," Neptune said proudly, "but this is why I'm so loved as the main character." Uni giggled at her statement, and the two girls turned their attention to the smaller one.
"Pfft, haha...," Uni laughed. "You two act like an old couple, you know?" she said. "I feel like it's been a long time since you two have been together, right?" she continued, her mood slightly elevated. "I'm wondering how it has worked out between both of you?" demanded Uni.
"Oh... How curious of you; you want to learn about us, huh? You must be really interested in our love story," replied Neptune with a smug face. "How wholesome." continued Neptune while preparing her mind for a long speech. "In that case, let me detail the flashback of our love story."But before she could speak, Noire quickly put her hand on Neptune's mouth to prevent her from speaking.
"W-what on Earth, Neptune? You have no right to show us your flashbacks of this event!" said Noire. "We're in Unigear stories here; stop stealing the spotlight from them." The girl was so embarrassed that she broke the fourth wall, reminding Neptune she wasn't supposed to be the main character here!
"Oh okay, I will stop for today," replied Neptune while trying to regain her breath. "But what I can tell you...Noire confessed to me while she was drunk," said Neptune, causing Uni to laugh at the stupidity of the girls.
"Neptune!" the tsundere exclaimed, blushing hard from the revelation, but before she could do or say anything, Neptune had taken Uni away, leaving Noire alone in her shame.
"Aaah..." sighed Noire, "Even after becoming a couple, she still loves making fun of me as the loner." Noire just smiled, seemingly used to those kinds of jokes.
The two ran through the school for the purpose of reaching Nepgear's locker. "So, why are we standing in front of this locker, Neptune?" asked Uni, a bit perplexed as to what Neptune was thinking.
"This is no ordinary locker," said Neptune. "This is the one I share with Nep.Jr." responded Neptune. The girl wanted to make Uni realize something about her sister, Nepgear.
"So, what about it?" asked Uni, as she saw Neptune being a bit too serious – something that rarely ever occurred in her life.
"See for yourself," replied Neptune as she opened the locker, revealing a pile of papers that had fallen out as the locker was completely full. They were now scattered across the floor. Uni quickly recognized the type of paper.
"Aren't these love letters?" demanded Uni, who was impressed by their number. They were scattered on the floor, in various colors, sizes, and shapes. It seemed that people had taken their time and a lot of love to write them.
"Yes they are," responded Neptune. "These are the letters that Nepgear received today." The statement surprised Uni; she knew that her best friend had always been popular, but receiving that many love letters in one day was astonishing.
"But what happened to the other letters?" asked Uni. "I do believe she has received several love letters since the first day of school," replied Neptune, smiling even more as she had pointed in the desired direction.
"Oh!" exclaimed Neptune. "You noticed it," she said. "You are really as smart as Noire, you know?" she added, making Uni blush from being compared to Noire. "The reason behind the missing letters is that Nepgear has been rejecting each person who sent her a letter." continued Neptune while Uni was focused on her explanation, "She has always met all the people in person, kindly rejecting their demands before giving them their letter back with an apology response in it."Neptune kept going on her speech "But her kind rejections didn't stop them from keeping sending her love letters." concluded Neptune while showing her most beautiful smile, proud of her sister.
Uni was totally speechless, admiring Nepgear's kindness; the girl she loved so much had taken her time writing those letters. "So, Uni," said Neptune, "why don't you take your chance? I'm pretty sure you will get a positive response from her." As she said, Uni turned red at the thought, but quickly looked down due to her earlier behavior towards Nepgear.
"Can I really? Even after being so nasty with her?" asked Uni, filled with doubt about what to do next.
"Don't worry, I know you will make Nep.Jr happy," assured Neptune. Though she was mostly immature, Neptune knew how to act like an older sister, especially when it came to Nepgear's happiness. "So, it's time for you to finish the plot of this fanfiction; I'll help you with that." concluded Neptune heroically, acting as the unofficial main character in that fanfiction.
"Fine...I will give it a try," said Uni, seemingly glad by Neptune's effort to cheer her up. Uni thought that Noire was dating her because she was always there for someone when they were in need; despite her major flaws, she did her best when it was necessary.
After the school day ended, the two spent the entire night writing the love letters to Nepgear, while Neptune helped Uni to set a precise date and hour; Uni herself customized her own letter, using the best ink to write it, on the finest quality and most expensive paper. For the envelopes, she chose the black color, thinking that Nepgear would realize the owner's name. She didn't want to write her name in it and wanted to surprise Nepgear.
As the night passed, the letter was finally finished, and the date was set for the following week. During this time, Uni was really stressed, but she tried her best to remain calm. She had to make up for her absence the previous day, and she also had to apologize to Maho and Nepgear for being so nasty towards them. She was relieved that Nepgear wasn't upset with her. And Maho didn't hold a grudge against her; she even encouraged Uni to confess her feelings to Nepgear before she did first, which surprised Uni.
The days had passed until the day of the confession. Nepgear had received the love letter in her locker without realizing it was Uni's letter.
"I wonder why Sis insisted that I look at this letter first?" Nepgear asked herself as she sat in her empty classroom. Focusing on the task at hand, she held the letter from Uni and, when she opened it, she saw the beautiful handwriting inside.
"This kind of writing and the shape, the color of this letter reminds me..." Nepgear finally realized, she smiled while blushing and began to respond to the letter, she was really impatient to hear her confession in person.
Hours passed, and the time had come; as soon as it was the end of class, Nepgear headed behind the school near a sakura tree. She waited while holding the love letter that Neptune recommended her to read.
Soon, Uni appeared near the place, revealing a reddened face she had never made in her life; it was her moment, she had prepared herself for a whole week for this, thanks to Neptune. As she saw Nepgear looking at her, she started to get closer to her.
"So, Uni, are you the one who wanted to talk to me?" asked Nepgear, smiling as she did so. Uni's embarrassment only increased due to her adorable smile.
"Y-Yes, I have always wanted to tell you something...," responded Uni. Nepgear just stared at her friend, all ears. Seeing that Uni beacame more anxious.
"I...I love you," the three magical words couldn't clearly come out of her mouth as Nepgear seemed to not hear them, but Uni didn't give up, gathering all the courage she needed and shouted, "I-I love you!" She finally managed to say it. "I have always loved you since the beginning." added Uni as she cried. "I know I am always cold and nasty with you, but it was because I couldn't be honest about my own feelings for you." continued Uni as her cries became stronger; her eyes slowly turning red from her tears. "I-I... I would understand if you don't see me that way, after all, you are surrounded by better people than me, like Maho, I am not at her level, I'm sure I'll lose in the end." kept going Uni on her confession. "I'am sure you will reject me, so just do it, but at least let me stay your best friend" concluded Uni as she tried to return to her tsundere side.
After finishing her confession, nobody spoke; only the wind and the sound of leaves could be heard. Uni closed her eyes, expecting a rejection, but no words were spoken. Instead, Uni felt someone take her in a hug. When she opened her eyes, she saw that Nepgear was hugging her, and she was so warm for Uni, she could stay like this forever.
"How cute of you...I love you too, Uni!" Those last little words spoken by Nepgear sounded like a gentle melody to Uni's ears. But the tsundere couldn't believe it; it sounded impossible for something like that to ever happen in her life.
"You...dummy...you just said that to comfort me, right?" The girl tried to rationalize. She knew how bad she was; why would she choose her over someone like Maho? It wasn't realistic or rational for her.
Nepgear released Uni from her hug. "If you don't believe me, read this," said Nepgear as she handed Uni the letter she had been holding since the beginning of her confession.
Uni grabbed the letter and took out the paper inside of it; if Neptune was right about Nepgear, then there should be a response from her in here. Hopefully, it would be an apology response. When Uni read the paper's content, she started to blush hard. It wasn't an apology response, but it was definitely a confession from her confirming that Nepgear was sincere in her declaration.
"So it's true?" asked Uni, and Nepgear nodded in response. The girl couldn't help but smile at her response; she didn't know how to act, she was like a little girl whose dream had come true.
"So, does that mean we'll go on a date?" Uni asked, still unable to process the information. "Wherever and whenever you want to," immediately replied Nepgear as she started to get closer to her.
"I'm happy, does that mean we can kiss?" asked Uni, at which point she already wanted Nepgear to kiss her to make them an official couple. But she hadn't realized that Nepgear was already about to kiss her.
Nepgear didn't waste any time and kissed her, surprising the tsundere, but quickly followed her move. It was warm and gentle, only pure love between the two lovers. The leaves on the sakura trees were falling off, surrounding the couple as the sunset made them even brighter. They had been kissing for more than two minutes when they had to separate themselves to breathe again, being out of breath.
The two girls looked at each other before giggling, and the tsundere said, "I guess, I'll let you choose our first date," as she grabbed Nepgear's arm. "Fine, I would do anything for my cute girlfriend," replied Nepgear, then kissed Uni's cheek. "You dummy, you always know how to embarrass me." responded Uni with a cute smile on her face, and she held Nepgear's arm even tighter before posing her head on her shoulder.
"Ooh! Uni, you're so adorable when you act like this; I love you." The girl's declaration made Uni blush, but now they were officially together, she could more easily open her heart. "I love you too, Nepgear!" This time, she admitted it without hesitation.
As they moved away, Uni continued to hold Nepgear's arm while thinking about how far she had come to reach this point; she could just secretly thank Blanc and Neptune for their help, or else she would have probably regretted passing up the opportunity of a lifetime. The couple disappeared into the scenery without noticing that a quartet was watching them from behind the tree.
"So, they finally went out together; my dream just came true," said Blanc, who was really satisfied with the outcome of that confession.
"Yeah, only because of my advice it was possible!" said Neptune joyfully. "Aww, Nep.Jr has grown so fast! I'm so proud of her." added the childish girl while crushing herself onto Noire's back.
"You mean it was thanks to me that Uni found the courage to confess, right?" said Blanc as she looked at Neptune with a serious expression to affirm her statement.
"But I gave her the perfect opportunity to confess, it was normal, since we were all just playing the roles of students," defended Neptune. "How selfish of you to take all the credit, you know?" Her declaration was about to become yet another argument between Blanc and Neptune.
"Oh! Cut it out, guys!" Noire exclaimed as she redressed herself from being weighed down by Neptune's gravity. "You two, stop this nonsense; can't you both of you just accept the equality?" demanded Noire as she looked at both girls who slowly accepted her words. "Fine, so now stop wasting the ending of that story," she added.
"You are all arguing while I haven't had a single line in this fanfic," Vert said sadly. All eyes were now on her.
"If you weren't in the office most of the time, you wouldn't be considered as a cameo," said Blanc with a small smile on her face, leading Vert to respond, "At least I have a huge responsibility as the Student Council President, unlike some people." Blanc and Neptune felt targeted by that declaration.
"You... Damn, this is what you said, but I'm sure you are always in the office playing games and emptying the school's supply of tea," said a pretty angry Blanc. Attracting all Vert's attention, seeming a bit guilty by that statement. "I sure this is where all the tea you drink goes, you Thunder Tits." added Blanc while looking Vert's chest. It seemed it was the sentence that made Vert angry.
"Oh... so you mean that? Then who lost their library for one day? Who is a twin's victim? Who's just as lonely as Noire most of the time?" asked Vert, causing Blanc to begin entering into a fit of rage while Noire was hurt because someone had again made fun of her loneliness. But Noire soon started to smile when she saw Neptune holding her hand.
"Look at this," said Noire as she looked at the two arguing; her efforts to calm everyone had crumbled into dust, "My attempts to keep things under control have fallen apart..." she continued, looking dejected.
"Aww..." said Neptune. "You're always so serious. But don't worry, I have a way to finish the story by revealing the flashback of our confession." concluded Neptune, determined to give the best ending possible.
"I-Idiot! This is literally a whole story, and you've already spoiled the twist of the story, so no one will want to read it!" finished Noire, embarrassed. Her partner gave her a kiss on her cheek and said, "I love you, Noire, hehe...".
"I-I love you too," she shyly smiled at Neptune while the other duo was still arguing like an old couple; they didn't notice Noire and Neptune playing the lovebirds.
Finally, everything went well for everyone; Uni had managed to confess her true feelings to Nepgear, and the girl responded positively right away. Vert got her wish as a cameo for the pleasure of Blanc, while Noire and Neptune enjoyed each other's presence sitting on the ground behind the tree, holding hands.
