Chapter 5: A Better World
Hey everyone I'm back with a new chapter. Sadly I lost my first source for this movie so I had to find a new one. Luckily I did and I wanted to make this chapter as epic as possible. Plus a little surprise ending. Hope you like what I have planned. Please Review and Enjoy.
We find ourselves at Jaden's home as the sun was slowly rising. It was the same morning that Bruce had been arrested but Jaden had yet to hear about that.
Needless to say, he had been occupied since last night.
As Jaden lay in bed, he was suddenly woken up by the sensation of something soft on his lips.
Opening his eyes, he saw Barbara still as naked as him snuggling next to him.
"I could get used to waking up like this." Jaden chuckles.
"So can we," Barbara said when Jaden cringed feeling a sensation down below.
Looking down the bed he saw a lump under the covers. Lifting it up he saw Pam had given him a good morning kiss too, but between his legs.
"Morning hot stuff." Pam teases.
"You girls are wild," Jaden said as Pam squeezed his length.
"Like you're one to talk," Barbara said as Pam crawled toward him her sexy body on full display for him.
"The way you were with us last night. I'm amazed you haven't gotten any kinky new ideas." Pam said.
"Maybe I do." Jaden teases.
"Jaden you tease." Barbara giggles.
"Guess the spider wants us in his web." Pam teases.
"Hey, I have two naked girls in my bed. Can you blame me? Besides you two wanted this just as much as me." Jaden smirks.
"What can we say? Ladies of the Night don't hit the jackpot very often." Barbara teases.
"And besides hero, since you don't exactly get paid for what you do don't you think you deserve some kind of reward for everything you do?" Pam asks.
"Well, that depends on my reward." Jaden grins.
Leaning in both girls gave him a kiss moaning Jaden made out with both of them at the same time.
Reaching around Jaden cups their asses making them moan and allowing him to kiss deeper.
"Think we can spend the rest of the day like this?" Barbara hints.
Jaden was about to give his answer when they suddenly heard a knock at the door getting their attention.
"Uh who is it?" Jaden calls out.
"Please open up, Bruce sent me to find you. Please it's an emergency." Selina calls out getting their attention.
Pausing Jaden put on a robe and walks to the door and sees Selina waiting for him.
"Selina Kyle? Oh wow, I'm a huge fan of your performances." Jaden said playing it casual.
"Flattered but right now I'm not here for autographs. Things are bad and Bruce sent me to find you." Selina said getting his attention.
"What's going on?" Jaden asks.
"Bruce has been arrested." Selina declares surprising him as the girls wrapped sheets around their bodies not liking the sound of this.
At the courthouse, we see Harvey prosecuting Bruce while Alfred and Selina sat in the stands while Jaden was in the back behind the door listening in.
"The county of Gotham has abundant evidence linking the accused to at least 2 murders. One of which was a lapel pin from the Dionysus Club of which Mr. Wayne is a member was found at the site of Sister Leslie's murder. Also, an eyewitness who was overheard placing Mr. Wayne at the scene of the crime. That witness, Marlene Mahony, was subsequently discovered mutilated in the same barbaric manner as the other victims after reportedly attempting to extort cash from the accused." Harvey states.
"Enough. Enough." The judge said banging his gavel. "You've made your point, Mr. Prosecutor. The accused will be remanded to the custody of Blackgate Penitentiary until such time as a trial by jury can be arranged by the county."
"If it pleases the court, as the nature of these crimes is so detestable and Mr. Wayne has ample financial resources to escape justice, I request the court to not set bail." Harvey requests.
"Granted. A bailiff will remove the prisoner to Blackgate Prison. Court adjourned." The judge said as an evil smirk appeared on Harvey's face.
As Bruce was taken away, Harvey was casually walking through the halls talking with a reporter for the Newspaper.
"Yes it was hard, but I had to do what was best for Gotham," Harvey said.
"Bullshit!" Jaden's voice echoed down the hall.
Turning around Harvey saw Jaden storming towards him.
"Young man I ask that you treat me with the proper—"
"What the hell is your problem?!" Jaden interrupts.
"Excuse me?" Harvey glares.
"You know Bruce isn't the Ripper. How could you do that to him?! I thought you two were friends." Jaden said.
"Gordon, who is this loud young man?" Harvey asks as James approached him.
"Oh I know you. You rode with Sister Leslie, Wayne, and myself the day Sister Leslie died. Jaden right?" Gordon said.
"Bruce didn't kill Leslie. He was with me when she died in my arms." Jaden said.
"Are you sure he didn't arrive after she died in your arms? Perhaps your sadness has clouded your judgment." Harvey asks. "Don't forget Marleen. She accused him of murder. How do you explain that?"
"Marlene's a drunk everyone at Leslie's church knows that. She drinks at least 2 bottles an evening." Jaden said.
"How do you know that?" Gordon asks.
"I work nights as a bartender and she always asks me for leftovers. A few times I've even brought her to Leslie so she has a warm bed to sleep in." Jaden said.
"It's cute that you think Bruce is innocent, but you're the only one in Gotham who thinks that," Harvey said.
"You can't be serious," Jaden said.
"I'm afraid Harvey is right. We have enough evidence to put Mr. Wayne away for a long time." Gordon said.
"Sorry, but Bruce is going to jail. And there's nothing you can do." Harvey said.
"You're just jealous that Selina picked him over you. And who could blame her? You're nothing two-faced piece of garbage. I bet you choose your victims by the flip of a coin." Jaden accuses.
Hearing this Harvey growls.
"Get him out of my sight." Harvey orders as Gordon steps forward.
"Don't waste your time. I'll see myself out." Jaden said shoving past them and leaving.
At Blackgate prison, Bruce was being led down the halls and quite a few inmates believed what they heard from the outside.
"Hey, Jack, you're not the only one who can cut."
"Let's see if Wayne blood really is blue."
"Tell him."
Looking down at the lunch level, Bruce saw a few inmates fighting and the others were cheering for their guy.
"Blackgate's real progressive. Warden likes to encourage physical exercise. You'll see." A guard said as another opens a cell door.
"The deluxe suite. Please, enjoy your stay at the Hotel Blackgate." Another guard jokes making his colleague laugh.
"Yeah we're looking forward to your checkout." He said.
That night, Bruce was laying on his bed lost in his thoughts.
"I love what you've done with the place." Sitting up, Bruce saw Selina sitting in a chair outside his cell.
"Selina, what are you doing here? This is no place for a lady." Bruce warns.
"You should see some of the houses I've played to. They make this seem like a command performance. You need to get out of here." Selina said.
"No, you need to get out of here." Bruce corrects. "When my friend has gone to all the trouble of building this well-constructed gilded frame for me?"
"Your friend? You think one of your friends is framing you?" Selina asks before realizing something. "Wait. That Jaden person you told me to get assumed the same thing."
"One of my mentors says that when you eliminate the impossible whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth. Does he know I'm here?" Bruce said.
"Yes but I doubt anyone will listen to him or that eyewash you said. You must liberate yourself immediately." Selina insists.
"Unfortunately, my nocturnal habits preclude me from providing an adequate account of my whereabouts. Jaden is my only chance." Bruce said.
"He tried that, neither Gordon nor Harvey believed him. I know he has some of the Ripper's attempted victims. I've met them. If I could bring them to Gordon or tell them you're Batman." Selina suggests.
"What? I think not." Bruce said horrified at the idea of giving away such important secrets.
"You must. Batman has an ironclad alibi against Marleen's murder. You'll be released. Gotham needs as many heroes out on the streets to stop that killer." Selina insists.
"I'm sorry, Selina. I can't. The Batman's effectiveness depends upon—" Bruce starts.
"Every moment you're in here puts women in danger," Selina said.
"And if you do this, you'll be putting two more women who narrowly escaped death closer to it along with yourself." Bruce counters.
"If you won't tell Gordon, then I will. Immediately." Selina threatens.
"He'll never believe you," Bruce warns.
"He'll believe this." She said reaching into her bag and briefly pulling out a bataraang. "I'll be damned if I'll let another girl be murdered so you can keep your precious secret. I'm sorry, Bruce, but I think ultimately you'll find this was all for the best."
Turning away, she leaves the prison to go through with her plan.
"Wow, you know how to pick them." A familiar voice said getting his attention.
Looking up, Bruce saw Spider-Man climbing along the ceiling walls of the jail just over him.
"How did you get in here?" Bruce asks.
"Are you kidding? This was one of my easier sneak-ins." Spider-Man said. "But we can talk later. Right now I gotta bust you outta here."
"I'll get out on my own. I can't trust you right now Jaden." Bruce said finishing the letter.
Jumping down, Spider-Man lifted up his mask to show his face.
"Listen I'm sorry. You gave me a chance to help you and I blew it. I was just so sad and angry. When my parents died Leslie was all I had. She became a second mother. And when I lost her I realized…I had nothing left." Jaden admits getting Bruce's attention.
"And you thought if you could kill the man who murdered her it would make the pain go away." Bruce summarizes.
"Yes." Jaden said resting his head against the bars. "I'm sorry I let you down. If you never want to see me again after this that's fine, but let me prove I can do at least one thing right and get the hero Gotham needs back out there. If you let me do that I'll step down and let you handle it."
"How did they die?" Bruce asks.
"Huh?" Jaden said lifting his head up.
"Your parents. What happened to them?" Bruce asks.
"It was raining. They went out to try to help the homeless in Gotham. It wasn't much but they were giving out fruit and water to families in need. But a carriage was racing through the streets and it hit a sharp turn and the carriage got loose…they couldn't get out of the way in time. It was one of the worst days of my life. I was sad, cold, and scared. I thought I was all alone. I had no one." Jaden said
Hearing this Bruce frowns remembering that feeling all too well.
"When Leslie died that same feeling came back. I hate it so much. I want it to go away but it won't." Jaden chokes.
Seeing the sad look in his eyes, Bruce could see the struggle he was going with. He wanted to stop Jaden from becoming him. And it was clear Jaden was realizing the mistakes he made last night.
"I know that pain Jaden. But you can't let that pain control you. You have to rise above it for the good of others." Bruce said.
"How do I do that?" Jaden asks.
"You can start…by helping me get out of here," Bruce said.
"You're gonna give me another chance?" Jaden said in disbelief.
"Just one. Wait for my signal." Bruce said.
Putting his mask on, Jaden nods before jumping up onto the ceiling.
A few minutes later, the cell doors open to reveal the guards.
"Chow time your highness." A guard said.
Standing up, Bruce approaches the guard and holds out a letter.
"Listen to me, bring this to my townhouse on Bell Avenue, and my man there will give you $100." Bruce offers.
"If you think I can be bought." He starts.
"Get it there in 30 minutes and he'll give you $200," Bruce said raising the price.
Taking the letter, the guard looks at it and sees it had several stick figures drawn in a pattern.
Waiting until he left, Spider-Man made his way to the roof where he saw Bruce approach a fight.
"Who is next? Who will face Cyrus Gold?" A big inmate calls out.
"I'll take a whirl," Bruce said stepping forward.
"No weaklings. Can't get good enough odds against you. I'll beat you in private, later." Cyrus promises.
"No time like the present," Bruce said.
Approaching Cyrus he grabs a tray and throws it at his face. While he was dazed Bruce delivered a series of punches.
Shaking it off, Cyrus threw a punch but at the last second, Bruce ducked resulting in him punching another prisoner in the face.
Enraged a prison fight broke out giving Bruce the opening he needed.
Running down a corridor while all the guards were distracted Bruce looked for a way out when Spider-Man drops in.
"Just for the record my money was on you to win that fight," Spider-Man said.
"Smart bet," Bruce said as Spider-Man fired a web. Holding onto him the two of them swung out a window before making their escape. "What happened to all the guards?"
"Oh I dealt with them while you were waiting for your plan to work." Spider-Man points to the stable.
Looking inside a stable, Bruce saw half a dozen guards webbed to the walls with their mouths covered.
"Clever," Bruce admits as they made their escape. "Where are your witnesses?"
"Safe," Spider-Man said.
"You go get them, I'll meet up with you," Bruce said as Spider-Man was about to leave. "Jaden."
Turning around, Spider-Man looks at him.
"Thanks for coming back." Bruce smiles.
Nodding Spider-Man fired a web and swung away.
Meanwhile, at the GCPD, Selina's carriage pulls up to see Harvey leaving.
"May I help you miss?" Harvey asks.
"Yes, I need to see Commissioner Gordon immediately," Selina said.
"I'm afraid that's impossible," Harvey said.
"I must insist. It's quite urgent." Selina insists.
"You never slow down, do you? As soon as one lover boy is unavailable, you're on to the next chump. I can't imagine what I ever saw in a whore like you." Harvey insults.
Hearing this Selina raised her hand to slap Harvey in the face but Harvey blocks it.
"Better sheath those claws kitten. Someone is liable to get hurt. And sooner or later, you will." Harvey warns.
Growling Selina lets go.
"Jaden was right about you. You are a two-faced piece of garbage." Selina mocks.
"James isn't here. He's down at the fairgrounds, making sure everything's shipshape. Tomorrow is the big day. You'll have to scratch up some business elsewhere." Harvey spat.
Not wanting to waste any more time on him, Selina ran back to her carriage.
"To the fairgrounds. Quickly." She orders.
In a nearby alley, we see Dickie, Jason, and Tim bringing a wagon with a big wooden crate and a small bag on top of it.
"This is it," Dickie said.
"You're off your nut. We're in the middle of nothin'." Jason said unaware of a hand grabbing the little bag.
"This is where that geezer told us to go. I can read can't I?" Dick asks.
"So you keep telling us." Jason mocks.
"Come on, he said to unload it right here," Tim said readying the planks.
"I still say we take the wagon, the horse, and whatever this is and skedaddle. Serve him right for being so trusting." Jason suggests.
"But he fed us." Tim reminds.
"We're gonna do the job, Jason. Now shut your boom box and push." Dick orders.
Growling the three boys pushed with all their might and the box came rolling off the wagon only to be stopped by a foot.
Gasping the three boys saw Batman standing in front of them.
"Good job. Now go." Batman orders.
Not needing to be told twice, the 3 boys got in the carriage and rode off.
Opening the crate, Batman revealed the contents to be a motorcycle.
Revving the engine, Batman raced through the streets of Gotham to see a familiar webhead with two women in his arms.
"Hang on girls! We're going down!" Spider-Man said as they landed in front of him.
"Oh wow, I don't think I'll ever get used to that." Pam cringed.
"It takes a while to get used to," Spider-Man said.
"I don't know if I want to," Barbara said before noticing Batman approach them. "Whoa, Batman."
"Ladies." Batman nods.
"Listen girls I wouldn't ask you to do this if we weren't desperate but is it okay if I tell him?" Spider-Man asks.
"Tell me what?" Batman asks.
Looking at Barbara, she nods her head saying it was okay.
"Batman meet Pamela Isely and Barbara Gordon." Spider-Man introduced surprising him.
"The Commissioner's Daughter?" Batman said not expecting this.
"The very same." Barbara nods.
"Ripper tried to kill these two a couple of days ago but so far he hasn't tracked them down yet," Spider-Man said.
"Good, in the meantime though Ms. Gordon we need your help. Selina is going to talk to your father about the Ripper and I might need your help to talk him out of it." Batman declares making Barbara's eyes widen.
"My dad?! No, he's the last person she should go to!" Barbara panics getting their attention.
"What do you mean?" Batman asks.
"My dad has everyone fooled. Even my mom. It's the reason I ran away. My dad is not who you believe he is. He hates women." Barbara said.
"Barb what do you mean?" Spider-Man asks.
"Years ago, I heard him, whispering things. Horrible things he wanted to do to me. Things he did to mom. When I saw what he did I just ran out that door and never looked back." Barbara warns.
"Oh dear god," Pam said covering her mouth.
Narrowing his eyes, Batman was suspicious of this.
"Come on," Batman said gesturing for Spider-Man to follow.
"You still want my help?" Spider-Man asks.
"If you think you can handle it." Batman said before looking at the two women. "You two be careful. We're gonna do some investigating."
As they raced off to Gordon's home, Barbara had a serious look on her face.
"I know that look. What are you thinking Babs?" Pam asks.
"I know my dad. It's how I've been able to avoid him for so long. And he wouldn't be home. Not when a big event is happening in Gotham tomorrow." Barbara said getting an idea.
"No don't!" Pam gasps as Barbara took off in a different direction.
Panicking Pam knew she couldn't stop her but she knew where she could get two people who could.
At the fair, we see Selina's carriage pull up and she made her way inside.
Walking through the fairgrounds, Selina saw equipment laying around as well as a guard dog.
"What are you doing here?" A voice asks startling her. Turning around she saw James emerge from the shadows. "You're Ms. Kyle, the actress, aren't you?"
"Yes, Commissioner, we met before, at the preview." Selina said.
"I thought I was all alone. Embarrassing as it sounds, you gave me quite a start." James said.
Holding out his arm, James led her away.
At his house, Batman and Spider-Man arrive expecting to see the two of them there but the house seemed empty.
"Commissioner? Selina?" Batman calls out.
Walking down the hall, Spider-Man scuffs the carpet and notices something.
"Uh Bats." He calls out.
Looking down, Batman saw Spider-Man move the carpet to reveal several cut marks on the floor leading to the wall under the stairs.
Narrowing his eyes, Batman feels around and ends up unlocking a secret compartment.
They were about to go in when they heard a gasp.
Turning around they saw Mrs. Gordon across the hall.
"Don't be alarmed, Miss. We just need to talk to your husband. Is he here?" Batman asks.
"You mustn't harm him. He's a good man. The best man in this horrible city." She insists.
"Your daughter thinks differently," Spider-Man said making her gasp.
"Barbara? You found her?" Mrs. Gordon asks cupping her hands in hopes.
"We did and she's safe for now. Did a woman come here looking for him?" Batman asks.
"A woman? Walking here off the streets? I should hope not." Mrs. Gordon said.
"This won't take a minute," Spider-Man said as they made their way inside.
"No! You're not allowed in there!" She calls out.
Turning on a gaslight the two men look in surprise to see a secret workroom. Inside were pictures of James, his war medals and books, but that didn't get their attention. What did were several papers cut out highlighting the Ripper's deeds and several sets of knives, internal organs in jars and all leading to a picture of James wearing a bloody apron.
"No…it can't be," Spider-Man said in disbelief.
Near the door, Mrs. Gordon grabbed a jar of acid and was about to attack when Spider-Man's spidey sense went off.
Turning around he grabs her arm just as she was about to attack forcing her to drop her the acid.
"Commissioner Gordon is Jack the Ripper!" Spider-Man declares.
"Where is he?" Batman asks as Spider-Man shoves her back toward the hall.
"Doing what he needs to do. His holy work. Cleaning the scum from Gotham. He needs to be severe. But not with us. No. No, he's gentle as a lamb with us. He simply burns the sin out of us. He has to." Mrs. Gordon parts the hair on her left side to reveal horrible burn marks on her face.
"Dear god," Batman said.
"It's the woman's sins that are the worst. Because they're hidden inside. James brings them out into the light." Mrs. Gordon said with a creepy smile on her face.
"Lady what is wrong with you?! These aren't criminals, they're not murderers, they're just women of the night trying to make money to survive." Spider-Man said.
"That tone." She cackles. "You sound like Barbara when she first saw this. She was so sweet, so beautiful, and so pure. My husband wanted to do everything to make sure she stayed that way. But she ran away before we could help her."
Eyes widening, Batman looked to the shelves and saw one book on female anatomy, specifically the lower area next to an empty jar labeled Barbara.
"And when he finds out that our little girl is still in Gotham oh he'll be so happy to hunt her down and bring her back. Of course. She'll have to be punished for leaving us and I intend to make sure she—"
Before she could finish something struck her in the back of the head causing her to collapse to the floor unconscious.
Looking up they saw Pamela panting heavily with a frying pan in her hand.
"Pam?" Spider-Man said surprised.
"Listen you have to hurry. Barb ran off to find Selina. I think she knows where her father is." Pam said in a scared tone.
"We have to hurry. Gordon is behind all of this." Spider-Man said.
"Tie up his wife, a man named Alfred Pennyworth will find help you. He's with us." Batman orders.
"Please hurry." Pam nods.
"We will," Spider-Man said as they raced out.
At the World's Fair, Selina was finished explaining everything to James.
"I suspected, of course. Who else, but Bruce Wayne has either the time or resources to create the Batman. I don't suppose you know who the Spider-Man is as well?" James asks.
"No." Selina shook her head.
"No matter. We'll see to this immediately. Let me fetch my things." James said walking to get his bag.
"I suppose it's a dreadful betrayal of confidence. But I simply see no other way." Selina said feeling bad for having to expose Bruce's secret like this.
"No, no, Ms. Kyle, I understand completely. It's in your very nature to play false with your illicit lover." James said putting on a familiar top hat and coat much to Selina's horror. "An action ideal to expose your absolute internal corruption."
Selina tries to make a run for it, but James grabs her and injects something into her neck making her cringe.
Shoving him off, Selina yanks the needle out of her and grabs her whip flicking it at him.
However, James was unfazed. As Selina tries to keep him at a distance she began to weaken as her vision began to blur.
"A 7% solution of laudanum, 3% heroin and alcohol. My wife's physician prescribes it for acute insomnia. Effective, is it not?" James asks as Selina drops to her knees. "But it's hardly a cure for harlotry. Only, I. Only Jack has the remedy for that vile ill."
As he gets in close, Selina pulls out a little knife and stabs James with it making him cringe in pain allowing her to try to escape.
"Damnation! You'll pay for that slut!" James roars.
Making her way through the fair, Selina tried her best to hide from him since she couldn't outrun him.
"You can't get far. The oversweet fragrance you used to cover your putrefying stench nearly burns my eyes." James said as Selina leans against some crates.
"Found you." James smirks.
"Dad stop!"
Gasping James saw Barbara standing across from him but with a shovel in her hands.
"Barbara. You came back." He smiles but she pointed the shovel at him.
"I've had this nightmare so many times, but today I walked right towards it. I hoped I'd never see your face again for as long as I lived." Barbara said.
"Is that any way to speak to your father? After all these years." James asks.
"Step away from her right now." Barbara orders.
"My own daughter. Defying and threatening me. Where did I go wrong?" James asks shaking his head.
"Around the time you burned mom and tried to "save" my purity," Barbara said swinging it at him and hitting James in the stomach knocking the window out of him.
Using this chance, Barbara grabbed Selina by the arm and helped her up.
"Come on. We need to move." Barbara said.
"The light. Quickly." Selina points towards the lantern.
Helping her over, Barbara saw a can of red paint next to it.
"Tell it to me straight. Do you know who Spider-Man is?" Selina asks.
"Yes," Barbara said.
"Good. That means he'll be with him too. We need to get a message out to Batman." Selina said.
Grabbing it the two women dipped their hands in the paint and rubbed a shape on the lantern just as James approached them.
"Come to Jack you little—" Before he could finish his sentence Selina turned on the light blasting James dead center with it making him cringe.
Spinning the lever, Barbara turned the lantern towards the sky before they continued their escape.
In the streets of Gotham, Batman was racing through them with Spider-Man swinging from building to building looking for any sign of Ripper or the women.
Suddenly a light shined into the sky getting their attention.
Eyes widening they saw the two girls had made a Bat Signal using the lantern.
"They're at the World's Fair!" Spider-Man said.
"Hurry!" Batman said as they raced toward the light as fast as they could.
Back at the Fair, James was looking for his prey among the crates.
Suddenly coming from the side, Barbara whacks him with a mop making him skid back.
Breaking the mop part off, Barbara held it like a bo staff.
"All I wanted was to hold onto my little girl," James said.
"I'm not your little girl anymore!" Barbara said attacking him.
Jumping back, Gordon blocks her strikes.
"I bet you don't even realize you tried to kill me a few days ago," Barbara said surprising him.
"Excuse me?" James said grabbing the staff.
"I was one of those ladies of the night you tried to kill, Pamela Isely. I was with her that night but Spider-Man saved me from you." Barbara declares horrifying him. You're so blind you couldn't even tell who your own daughter is!" She yells stomping on his foot making him cringe before dealing an uppercut knocking him back towards some rope.
Groaning James slowly got up.
"I see you remember all those fighting lessons I gave you," James said rubbing his cheek and taking a fighting stance.
"If you can't hit harder than the other guy. Hit smarter." Barbara growls taking the same stance.
As James threw the first punch, Barbara dodges and holds her arms up to block.
Skidding back she jumps atop a crate and leaps at her dad.
Latching onto his back she punches him multiple times before he threw her off.
Falling back, she lands next to her staff.
"I can't believe the daughter I raised wound up slumming those disgusting evil creatures," James said.
"Women aren't the evil ones, Dad…YOU ARE!" Barbara declares enraging her father.
Swinging the stick at him, James swings a left hook breaking the staff and hitting his daughter knocking her into several crates.
"And to think I tried to save you." Grabbing the rope, James ties up Barbara. "Now you can't get away with this time."
"Let me go!" Barbara yells trying to break free but couldn't.
As he was about to drag her away a Bataarang flew at him but missed his face.
"Nice try." James mocks looking at Selina who was too weak to escape him now thanks to the drugs.
As she tried to crawl away, James grabs her by the hair and drags her alongside Barbara.
"Wayne promised this World's Fair would be a paradise of cleanliness and light. But what does a light in the darkness do? It draws flies. Vile, unclean, like you. But for every one of you I eradicate, two more arrive. I promised the people of Gotham to clean the scum of the streets thieves, murderers, confidence men, immigrants, illiterates, and anarchists. This city seems to spawn them. But it's whores you painted whores that are the worst. All rosy-cheeked, soft and round on the outside but on the inside." James declares dragging both women into a Ferris wheel compartment and starting the ride up.
"Now Barbara I'm gonna give you one more chance to come back to me by your own free will. What do you say?" James asks.
"I'd rather die," Barbara said spitting blood in his face.
Growling Gordon shoves Barbara next to Selina.
"My death…prove…innocent." Selina groans.
"Yes. Sadly, your death will exonerate Wayne. But it will be worth it. Your blood shall christen this fair, woman. Your corruption and decay will spill down over this carnival as a warning to all your kind. And as for you my traitorous daughter. I'm afraid bad children need to be punished." James declares.
Raising his knife, he was about to stab them when suddenly Batman and Spider-Man broke through the glass.
Getting his attention, James blocks Batman's attacks and pushes him back toward the opposite end.
Leaping up, Spider-Man grabs the rails and delivers a double kick to James knocking him back.
As the two heroes faced the murderer, James picks up his knife.
"Left-handed." Batman declares.
"Oh, the nuns beat that out of me. Always use the right. Except for Jack's work." James said.
Lunging at them, Batman dodges James' slices and rams into him knocking him against a gaslight.
As the flames drop down on the furniture the compartment began to catch fire.
James was about to counter when two webs grabbed the back of his arms.
Pulling behind, Spider-Man yanks James back sending him skidding towards the door.
Charging in, Batman rams into James knocking him against the door and while the door broke, James was dangling for dear life.
Seeing the knife on the ground, Spider-Man picked it up and used it to cut Barbara free while Batman helped Selina up.
"Can you speak? Have you any other injuries?" Batman asks.
"No I'm…Bruce!" Selina gasps.
Turning around James rams into Bruce knocking him against the wall.
Taking a stance, Spider-Man swings a left hook at James but he blocks and delivers a set of punches knocking him back.
Grabbing both heroes, James threw them out of the compartment making them land on a lower one.
As both of them got up, James leaped down to face them.
"What's the plan?" Spider-Man asks.
"I'll keep him busy. Get the woman to safety first!" Batman orders.
Nodding Spider-Man fires a web to climb.
"Oh no you don't!" James tries to stop him but Batman punches him in the face allowing Spider-Man to jump back up to the compartment.
Picking up Selina, Spider-Man helps her onto his back while Barbara held onto his arm.
"Hold on tight to me," Spider-Man warns.
As both ladies took his advice Spider-Man runs to the edge and jumps out.
Panicking both women feared the worst until he fired a web upwards at a compartment allowing him to drop them both off at the bottom.
"You two stay down here, I'm gonna go help Bats," Spider-Man said.
"Jaden wait." Barbara said grabbing his arm. "Be careful."
Responding to her, Spider-Man took off his fedora and trench coat revealing his spider logo.
Draping the coat over Selina and putting the hat on Barbara's head.
"I will." Spider-Man said firing two webs at the upper compartments.
Pulling back, Spider-Man slingshotted himself towards the upper compartments where the fight was.
"You were right. I'm a trained fighter. Bare-knuckle champion at Culpepper. London Prize Ring rules." James said taking a fighting stance.
"There were no rules at Antietam, though, were there, James?" Batman asks.
"There are no rules in hell." James declares throwing the first punch, but Batman blocks it forcing James to continue his attack.
Swinging his foot, Batman kicks James in the side, but he grabs his leg and slams Batman down with an evil grin on his face.
"The things I saw during the war the entirety of humanity's evil was there for all to see on the inside of every man. But nothing compared to the corruption of every painted camp follower. The vile diseases they spread, destroy good men destroyed them in both body and mind." James declares.
Judo flipping James off him, Batman looks to see the flames getting worse.
Looking down, Batman grabs James by the arms and swings him up slamming him down.
Retaliating, James yanks Batman in and headbutts him making him step back.
Cringing Batman held his head.
"We saw your work on your wife." Batman declares.
"Wives are the worst prostitutes of all! Sell themselves too cheap! Wives! Mothers! And that slut nun of yours!" James said punching Batman multiple times before knocking him down.
"You shut your fucking mouth!" Swinging in Spider-Man kicks James in the chest making him tumble back. "Don't you ever talk about Sister Leslie like that!"
"Ready for round 3 boy?" James said putting it up.
"James Gordon you are a lousy cop, a terrible husband, a shitty father, a disgusting excuse for a human being and you can go to hell!" Spider-Man said.
"You can't distract me with your little insults. There is nothing you can say to me that I haven't heard before." James smirks.
"Oh really?" Spider-Man said taking that as a challenge. "You know that purity of your daughters you were so eager to protect? Well, hate to tell you this but it's long gone."
"What?" James glares.
"Oh yeah, I took it myself when I banged your daughter. Twice. She came back for more and she loved it." Spider-Man said making kissing noises.
"I'll kill you!" James snaps throwing a punch at him.
Ducking under, Spider-Man punches James hard in the gut shattering a rib.
Sweeping his leg, Spider-Man knocks him to the ground.
"You think you just because you suffered you think you're better than everyone Gordon?! You think you know who deserves to live and die?! Newsflash everyone suffers! What the hell makes you special?!" Spider-Man said punching him in the face and throwing him onto another compartment.
Banging against the roof, Gordon saw flames surround his compartment.
Swinging in, Spider-Man lands in front of him. "Face it. At the end of the day, you're not a savior. You're not even a man. You're just a little boy on the playground who thinks girls are gross. What's the matter, James? Don't like cooties?"
"Not as much I don't like you." As Spider-Man throws a punch at him, James grabs a burning beam of wood and swings it hitting him in the face.
Screaming in pain, Spider-Man falls back and we see half of his mask burnt off revealing his hair and right eye.
As Spider-Man struggles to get up, James grabs him by the neck and begins choking him.
"Let's see what's behind the mask," James smirks grabbing the top of his head and yanking the mask off him revealing his face. "Well, well, well. Isn't this a familiar face. Poor Jaden Cooper. Another piece of garbage Sister Leslie picked off the side of the road. No doubt Wayne's made you his new errand boy." As Jaden's eyes widen Gordon just laughs. "Oh yes, I know all about you. And when you die no one will care because you have nothing. No mother, no father, no Nun. All alone." James mocks.
"He's not alone." Swinging in Batman kicks James in the chest allowing Jaden to gasp for air.
Recovering James looks to see Bruce hand Jaden back his mask.
Panting heavily, Jaden takes the mask and puts it back on.
As James stood up the two heroes looked at each other and nodded thinking the same thing.
Spider-Man charges in first and James was about to retaliate when Spider-Man does a flip over him.
Confused James looks up only to be met with a punch by Batman.
Before he even had time to react, Spider-Man dropped back in and punches him from the other side.
"When did you two become so coordinated?" James asks.
"Just now!" Both declared as Spider-Man swings his right arm and Batman swings his left and they punched him in the face at the same time knocking James over the edge and making him dangle for dear life.
As Batman moves in James swings a pair of handcuffs linking their arms together.
Swinging punches, the two tried to overpower the other.
Down at the bottom, Selina and Barbara saw the holds keeping the Ferris Wheel in place were about to break when an explosion went off knocking them both back.
Worried they hoped the two of them got off soon.
Up above them, the three fighters lost their balance.
"Bruce, Jaden. Look around you. The world of tomorrow is burning around you. Exposing the ashes of degradation hiding beneath! This is where we belong!" James declares.
"No." Batman defies.
Standing up we see Batman had uncuffed himself and attached the other end to a rail linking James to it. He tried to yank himself free but it wouldn't break.
"I paid Houdini 300 dollars for that trick," Batman said.
Growling James tried to lunge at him but the cuffs stopped him allowing Spider-Man to punch him in the face.
"The only one who belongs here is you," Spider-Man said.
Dropping to his knees, James saw a look of anger in his eye.
"You want to kill me? Don't you?" James glares as Spider-Man webbed his other arm to the cuffs.
"More than anything in the world," Spider-Man said grabbing James by his collar and lifting him up and showing his Ripper knife. "How many lives have you ended this knife?"
Taking it Spider-Man stabs James in the shoulder with it making him scream in pain.
"Not so fun when it's you is it?!" Spider-Man asks yanking it out and punching James repeatedly in the face until his nose snaps and he started to bleed from it. "I should kill you! Make you pay for what you've done! Pay for all the lives you've taken! The people you've killed! You deserve every bad thing in the world for what you've done!"
Grabbing him by the head, Spider-Man forces it back giving him a clear path. Raising the knife, he was about to slit James' throat with it when Batman grabbed his arm.
Growling Spider-Man wanted to yank free but Batman turned him around to look him in the eyes.
"Don't do it," Batman said.
"He doesn't deserve to live and you know it!" Spider-Man said. "He knows our identities! He'll tell everyone!"
"No one will believe him when they find out the truth," Batman said.
"Why?! Why do you care so much whether this piece of shit lives?! Why does he get to live when good people have died?!" Spider-Man asks as Batman saw tears forming on the visible side of his mask.
"Killing him won't bring her back. Believe me, I know. Don't be James. Don't be me either. Be the man Sister Leslie wanted you to be. The man you wanted me to see. Who is that man?" Batman said hitting him like a ton of bricks.
"That man…isSpider-Man." Spider-Man realized dropping the knife. "With Great Power comes Great Responsibility."
"Attaboy." Batman smiles softly as the two heroes stared James down. "Fight's over. You're done."
"We're taking you in Gordon. You'll never hurt anyone ever again." Spider-Man declares.
Hearing this James was furious. If they brought him in, he would be executed for sure or rot in Arkham Asylum with the other psychopaths.
Standing up, James refused to go out like this.
Moving the cuffs through the rail, James backed up towards the blazing inferno behind him.
"Wait stop!" Batman said trying to stop him when Spider-Man's spidey sense went off.
"Wait!" Yanking him back Spider-Man saves Batman from falling debris that would have crushed him.
"Gordon!" Batman calls out.
But James didn't listen. Moving further and further back the flames soon engulfed him burning his entire body causing him to scream in pain, but the scream soon turned to laughter before he was all burnt up.
Seeing that they had to leave, both heroes sprinted to the opposite end and jumped off just as the flames engulfed the Ferris wheel.
Firing a web and grapple gun both of them swung down to the ground, but just as they were about to reach the bottom, flames and rubble burnt their lines causing them to land.
While Spider-Man managed to land on his feet Batman crashed into a crate.
Groaning they looked up to see the entire thing about to come down on them.
Suddenly two pairs of hands helped Batman up.
Surprised Selina and Barbara came to their aid.
"Come on we gotta move," Barbara said as they helped Batman out of the way before the entire Ferris Wheel came crashing down in a blazing inferno.
"You should have run when you had the chance," Batman warns.
"Well, I was fairly doped up. My actions were quite questionable." Selina smirks.
"And my dad?" Barbara asks.
"I'm sorry Barbara. He's dead." Spider-Man sighs.
"Did you…" She starts.
"No, I wanted to, but I didn't. He killed himself." Spider-Man said.
"It was very brave of you. Standing up to your father like that." Batman said when a carriage pulls up.
"There they are!" Inside it, we see Alfred alongside Pam, Dick, Jason, and Tim.
"Help them in lads. Lively now." Alfred said as the boys and Pam helped them into the carriage. "Where there's smoke, there's fire and there you'll always be sir."
As they rode off, Batman looked at the 3 boys sitting next to Spidey.
"Are these yours, Alfred?" Batman asks.
"Goodness no. They belong to you." Alfred declares making Spidey chuckle.
"Look at this wily group. A bat, a cat, a spider, a butler, 2 ladies of the night and 3 robins. We sound like the start of a bad joke." Spider-Man said.
"If anyone knows bad jokes it's you." Batman chuckles.
"Holy shit you can laugh?" Spider-Man said amazed.
Looking back at the wreckage, Selina had a look of worry on her face.
"Gone. All gone." She declared.
"And the hope of Gotham with it," Bruce said.
"No. No, it's not gone." Spider-Man said getting their attention. "A couple of stupid attractions don't represent hope. We do. The people of Gotham. And as long as we're still here so is hope."
"It was all phony anyway. We can make something better." Dick agrees.
"All of us." Barbara smiles.
Hearing this the two adults smiled.
"So where do we all go from here?" Pam asks.
"I know a place that should be big enough for all of us." Alfred hints and instantly Bruce knew what he meant.
"Alfred." He shook his head.
Arriving at Bruce's old manor, Jaden and Bruce took off their masks as they all walked in.
"I haven't set foot here in years," Bruce said.
"Well then welcome home," Jaden said.
"So how are we going to fix up Gotham?" Barbara asks.
"I don't know yet, but hopefully something will come to me," Bruce said opening the door to the main room and instantly they heard a groaning.
Worried they all feared a robber was in the manor.
"Get back," Bruce whispers.
As he and Jaden prepared themselves, they kicked open the door expecting crooks but saw Rick laying down on the couch with several bottles of alcohol. around him.
"Ugh about time you dicks showed up." He said waking up. "By the way, you're out of booze."
"Who are you and what are you doing here?" Bruce asks.
"Relax I'm not here to kill you or anything. I'm just here to tie up a loose end." Rick said getting up.
"Loose end?" Jaden asks.
"Several days ago, you thought me and my grandson were in danger and you saved us," Rick said walking up to him.
"Oh uh you're welcome," Jaden said.
"That wasn't a thank you dipshit! I don't need to saved! Especially from some kid who thinks has to swing around dressed like this!" Rick said startling him. "But in the end, you saved us so consider us even. I've been working on something these past few days that should more than square us."
"Square us?" Jaden asks confused.
"Morty! Get your butt in here! They're back!" Rick calls out.
As banging and rattling from an unknown part of the mansion echoed all of them waited until from behind a large grandfather clock it opened revealing a secret passage and Morty who was covered in sweat stains.
"Hey I have one of those," Bruce said.
"Yeah, I know. You supers fall under a lot of the same cliches. Morty is everything done down there?" Rick asks.
"Uh yeah, Rick but why did we have to use this kind of technology?" Morty asks.
"Why else? These people use gaslights for crying out loud." Rick said.
"Uh, are we being insulted right now?" Jason asks.
"Everything out of this guy's mouth is an insult," Jaden said.
"Come on follow me," Rick said grabbing a bottle of booze and leading them down the passageway. "Look it doesn't take a genius to figure you people out. You want to help people and you want won't stop until you end up in your graves, right?"
Pausing none of them knew how to answer that.
"Well, that means the only way to pay you back is to make it so you can do you stupid hero routine for a long time." Making their way down to the bottom they see a whole Batcave made with various technology, some were your basic electronics and the other was steampunk based.
"What is all this?" Selina asks.
"Welcome to the Batcave." Morty declares making Rick gag.
"That is the last time I ever let you name anything," Rick said.
"What's wrong with Batcave? He's Batman and this is a cave. Batcave." Morty said as Rick pinched his nose.
"Oh my god, I feel like I'm in a comic book right now." Rick groans. "Alright listen up because I'm only gonna say this once. All the gear in this cave is entirely powered by steam and it has everything you need so you can find out about everything going on in Gotham. Consider the debt paid in full."
"Wait, how does any of this stuff work?" Jaden asks.
"Don't worry. I found someone who was willing to commute. She'll be in charge of everything until you idiots figure it out. Plus she's like you." Rick said looking at Jaden.
"What are you talking about?" Jaden asks.
"You're smart, you'll see it. Hey, you in here?!" Rick yells.
"Ugh, Rick calm the heck down I'm coming!" A female voice echoes from the back before making her way towards them.
"Meet your helper in all things tech and hero based. A straggler from another dimension when I gathered all this stuff." Rick said.
Dropping in from above, a young Latina woman around Jaden's age with long brown hair, a pair of fingerless gloves, and a dark blue dress.
"Anya Corazon. I look forward to working with you all." She smiles.
"Consider the debt repaid. And don't expect anything more." Rick said before turning to leave.
"Uh good luck." Morty said following him.
Gotham's world fair is in flames, Ripper dead, a new base, a new teammate, and a new family all in one day.
They handled one threat, but Batman and Spider-Man were far from finished helping Gotham.
