Edward

I woke up with my mother sitting next to me. I squeezed the hand she was holding and she jumped up and smiled.

"Oh, Edward," she kissed my forehead. "Don't move, don't try and talk yet, let me get the doctor."

She hurried from the room and I could hear talking outside the door and then I heard Bella's frantic voice.

I wanted her with me but knew she was probably taking care of Elizabeth. She came in watery eyed and alone and kissed my cheek.

I looked to the door wondering where Elizabeth was, but the doctor and my mother entered. He checked me over, removing the tube from my mouth and told me not to try and sit up.

I tried to speak but my throat ached. My mother quickly offered me a straw. "Drink, dear."

After a few sips I tried again. "Elizabeth," was all I got out.

Bella gave me a sad smile. "She's going to be fine. She's in surgery now; they're trying to repair her hand enough so she can still play piano."

My eyes were stinging with tears. "I'm so sorry."

Bella hurried to my side and grabbed my face. "No, you don't get to say sorry, this isn't your fault."

I still felt responsible for my daughter getting injured. Bella kissed my lips trying to reassure me. "Now, you're going to get better for me and for Elizabeth and Anthony."

She placed my hand on her stomach so I could feel the baby move. "Elizabeth is fine, we're all safe," she kissed me softly.

"Tell Chief thanks," I croaked out.

She smiled and kissed my cheek. "You can tell him yourself when you get out of here. I need to head out to the waiting area, Elizabeth will be out of surgery soon and I need to be where the doctor can find me."

I smiled at her. "Of course."

"We'll come by when she can."

"I'd like that."

She slipped out as Carlisle came in. He smiled and softly brushed her belly as she passed. The giddy look on his face was apparent and contagious. "Hello, Son. The doctor informed us you'll be fine, a full recovery in a few weeks." Carlisle's eye drifted to the door where he had just passed Bella and smiled.

"What are you up to?" I asked my father.

My dad smiled widely. "I thought you'd never ask! I started a trust for little Anthony."

"Dad, he's not even born yet. How did you do it? You don't even know his whole name."

"Oh, I know it. She told us his middle name was Masen. Does she know it was your grandfather's name?"

"Uh, I don't know, I told her when we first discussed it years ago but I don't know if she remembers it now."

"Well, no matter, it's done."

"Why do I feel there's more to this story?"

Carlisle just smiled at my mother and she shook her head no at him. "Fine, but just know I'm very excited about it."

"I can see that. What is it he isn't telling me, Mom?"

"Oh, that's up to Bella, dear." She kissed my forehead. "Come, dear, we should get some lunch." My parents left hand in hand smiling. I chuckled a little, amused at their antics and then stopped immediately, groaning because it hurt.

"Take it easy there," Chief Swan said. His face was stern and he walked over, glaring down at me. I squirmed uncomfortably. "You stopped James from taking my baby girl and kept her safe until I could get there."

"I think you got it backwards, Chief. I'm pretty sure I should be thanking you for saving her, for stopping him."

"Yeah, well, he's in county lock up."

I breathed a sigh of relief.

The Chief looked hard at me again. "What are your intentions with my daughter, Cullen? Twice now you've knocked her up and left her unwed."

I tried to sit up and groaned in pain and stopped moving for a moment, trying to put my answer together. "Sir, I had every intention of marrying your daughter seven years ago. I don't know if she told you but I was picking up her ring when she disappeared."

"What about now?"

I ran my hand through my hair. "Well, Sir, I would happily marry her today if she'd let me, but I don't think she's ready for that yet."

"If you could knock her up you can marry her."

"Believe me, I agree whole heartedly, I was ready to marry her the moment I found her, unfortunately she's moving slower than I would like on that plan."

"Obviously not slow enough with another junior on the way." It was obvious Chief Swan was upset about his daughter being pregnant.

"Sir, it was never my intention to disrespect your daughter that way."

"But it didn't stop it from happening, again!"

"Daddy!" Bella barked at Charlie from the doorway, chastening him. "It wasn't Edward's fault; I was the one that pushed him. He was a perfect gentleman and even pulled away twice trying to do the respectable thing. What more could you ask for?"

"A third time."

"Well, it would have done him no good. I locked the bedroom door."

I blushed along with the Chief. "Bella, I know you're not like that."

"That's right; you know I'm not so you should realize Edward is obviously someone very special to me if I let down my defenses like that."

"Ah, Bells."

She walked up to her dad. "He loves me, Daddy, isn't that enough?"

Chief Swan grunted.

"Are we interrupting?" Carlisle said pushing Elizabeth in a wheelchair.

"Hey, Munchkin," Chief Swan said forgetting his disgruntled attitude instantly. "How's the hand feeling?"

"Better," she held up the brace, "But the doctor said no piano for six months!" she pouted.

"That's okay, baby. There are lots of songs you can play with one hand; we'll just work on those ones."

She perked up at my promise.

My mother walked in smiling. "Edward, wonderful news, I cleared it so you can come home as soon as you're discharged. Thank heavens Carlisle listened to me and bought a jet when I asked him to. We'll have you home and settled in bed in no time."

"No, Mom, I'm staying here."

"Nonsense, you have no help here, do you even have a maid? Seriously, Edward, you'll need someone to care for you for a while, we have a full staff at home."

I glanced at Bella and then back at my mom. "I can't, I can't leave her, Mom, I won't."

"Just bring her, dear, there's plenty of room and when you're up to it we'll have a party to present her and Elizabeth and Anthony! Oh, I must call Alice! She'll want to get started right away!" my mother said giddily and bounced outside so she could use her cell phone.

Chief Swan gave a surprised look to Bella.

Bella just laughed with Carlisle.

"Well, I guess you'll be coming to England for a coming out party, shall we count you in, Chief? I could use a man to stand and chat with. Esme is all over at these things and Edward is just useless in Bella's presence."

We both blushed and the Chief grunted again. "England? That's awfully far, Bells." Then he looked over at my dad. "Did I hear your wife right? She said you bought her a jet?"

Carlisle smiled at Bella. "He doesn't know, does he? You didn't tell him about the trusts."

Bella rolled her eyes. "I'm still going to find a way to give that back to you."

My dad laughed. "Now, now, Bella, don't make me double it."

She gasped. "You wouldn't dare!"

Carlisle just winked at me.

"Don't you dare, Edward! Tell him no!"

"What is she talking about?" the Chief asked me.

"My dad here checked out Bella when I started dating her and was very impressed with her, so he gave her a trust."

"A ridiculous trust and I will find a way to give it back."

"Wait; is this some sort of loan? He isn't trying to buy you off is he, honey?"

"No, Dad," she said with a frustrated sigh.

"It's definitely not a loan, we consider Bella family and all our children have trusts."

"What do you expect in return for this trust?" the Chief asked warily.

My dad smiled. "That she live a long, comfortable and happy life."

"I'm already comfortable, Carlisle," Bella insisted.

"Yes, but you took out loans to start up the new store in Port Angeles. I really don't see why you didn't just buy one outright, Bella."

She screwed up her face and Charlie looked at her confused. Apparently, he knew the amount of the loan she took out for her new store and it wasn't cheap. "Buy it outright? How much is this trust?"

"It doesn't matter. Just you wait, Carlisle, one of these days you'll get a card with a very large check in it."

"I'll just re-deposit it but in the doubled amount, dear."

"Bells?"

"It's nothing, Dad; I just don't know what to do with it."

"How about paying off the mortgages on both of your stores and opening a chain, maybe donate a library?" my dad offered.

Chief Swan's jaw dropped. "Bells? How much is this trust of yours."

"It doesn't matter, Dad, I'm not touching it."

I chuckled and the Chief looked at me.

"Edward, do you know?"

"Yes." I looked at Bella who glared at me and I just shook my head at her. "My darling Bella, really, I don't see why you protest so much."

I turned to Chief Swan. "You should have seen her flip out when she found out we have a trust for Elizabeth, it took some convincing to at least keep it as a college fund."

"Twenty million dollars is a bit excessive for a college fund, Edward!" she snapped.

I rolled my eyes at her. "We're not fighting over this again. You're lucky I was able to convince Alice that she didn't need a few million more for a clothing fund, although I suspect she's going to find a way around that."

"Bells, did I hear right?"

"I know, Dad, isn't it ridiculous? There's no way she's going to spend that much, even at an Ivy League school."

The Chief looked at me and then to Carlisle. "Bells, how much is your trust?"

She just shook her head at him. "Too much."

"Too much? It isn't more than Elizabeth's, is it?"

I just chuckled again.

"Just shut up, Edward," she growled.

"Geez, Bells, who did you get involved with here?" he whispered.

"A stubborn pain in the butt that won't take no for an answer!" she glared at Carlisle.

My dad smiled and pulled out his phone. "Mr. Cheney, it seems our Bella is being disagreeable again. I think we need to add another twenty five million to her trust."

"Don't you dare, Carlisle!"

Chief Swan's jaw dropped.

"Fine, fine, I'll keep your damned trust, just don't add any more!"

"Fine, I'll agree as well, if you pay off your stores. There really is no reason to be in debt, dear."

"Another twenty five million dollars?" the Chief choked out.

I explained with a smile. "Yes, you see it started at thirty million but Bella was throwing quite the tantrum about it so Dad decided to add more. They were up to one hundred million when she finally conceded to take the original amount but they compromised and settled on fifty million."

I thought the Chief's eyes were going to bug out of his head.

Bella

My father looked at us all worried and pulled me aside. "He isn't hurting you, is he?"

I looked at him confused. "What? No, I told you, Dad, Edward is nothing but a gentleman." I subconsciously covered the bruise on my arm, the edge of it peeking out from my sleeve.

My dad quickly grabbed my hand and moved my sleeve. "What the hell is this?"

He glared over at Edward and he dropped his eyes as if he felt guilty, even though he wasn't the one that cause a problem.

"It was nothing, Dad, he was just...God, Jake was…Dad, he didn't hurt me."

"Jake did this?"

Carlisle looked at me surprised.

I let out an exhausted breath. "I'll tell you later, Dad, when little ears aren't listening, okay?"

He looked from Edward to me. "I don't want you going to England if he did this to you, Bells."

I pulled him into the hallway and spoke softly. "Dad, Jake didn't do this but he instigated it, okay? It wasn't done on purpose; Edward just grabbed me a little tighter than he planned."

"He shouldn't be grabbing you at all."

"He should if someone is groping my naked body and not stopping or letting me go when I tell them to."

My father's eyes widened. "Jake groped you?"

I let out a sigh. "Look, I don't know what got into him but he'd walked in on me naked in the bathroom and sort of got…distracted…and wouldn't let go. Edward heard me yelling at him to stop. He came running in and pulled me out of Jake's arms and told him to leave. He didn't mean to grab me so hard, but Jake had a firm hold on me when he pulled. I swear, Dad, Edward would never hurt me; you should have seen how upset he was when he saw the bruise. He really is a perfect gentleman."

My dad looked at my tummy and glanced over at Edward's door. I rolled my eyes. "Really, I swear, Dad, it was always me instigating…sex. I wish you would just get off his case about this," I said and rubbed my belly.

"I don't see why he doesn't just marry you, Bells. Does his family think you're not good enough or something?"

"What? No! Carlisle's somehow convinced that I'm out of his league."

My dad smiled.

"Look, Dad, I'm just not ready for marriage right now, okay? I'm still trying to remember everything. I know I love him and I want to be with him. I just need to find where he fits in my life right now."

"He fits as your husband, Bella, that's where he fits. You marry him, young lady; he said he wanted marriage if you'd just agree to have him."

I scowled. "I don't doubt it, but I'm not ready, Daddy. Just let me do this on my own, please?"

"You will marry him though, right?"

"Daddy…" I sighed.

"Can you blame me for wanting that for you, Bells?"

I just turned away shaking my head.

Edward smiled when I entered the room. "Everything okay?" he asked and then looked over to the Chief.

"Yes," I growled, "He just wants me to marry you."

Edward smiled widely and so did Carlisle, "Well, I'd be more than happy to oblige. Ecstatic even."

"Edward!" I snapped, "Don't make me hit you!"

Carlisle patted my father on the shoulder. "Don't worry, Chief, he'll eventually wear her down. She's stubborn, but he's even more persistent. Got that from his mother," Carlisle laughed.

If that was true, I was so screwed…
