Edward

After we made love last night, Bella was restless, as if she couldn't get comfortable. I rubbed her aching back and she finally fell into a fitful sleep. I was finally sleeping peacefully myself with my naked body cuddled up against Bella's, so I was surprised when she suddenly shoved me over, almost knocking me off the bed.

I jumped up dazed and confused. "What? What?"

My eyes focused a little in the dark to see Bella cringing and panting.

I dove back on the bed next to her. "Bella, Love, is everything alright?" My hand went to her stomach; it felt tight and hard.

My worried eyes met her pained ones. "Bella?"

"Ugh, I'm fine, Edward," she said taking a deep breath. "Just, we need to go to the hospital."

"The hospital? What's wrong?" I asked panicked.

"Nothing's wrong," she panted again. "It's just time to go."

She gritted her teeth at the last part, moaning loudly.

The bed suddenly was wet. "Oh, shit. Thank God I insisted on that waterproof mattress pad!" she groaned.

I felt the dampness where I was kneeling and pulled the blankets back to see what was happening. "Oh, my God! Oh, my God, Bella?"

Bella

"My water just broke!" I growled through a contraction. I suspected I had been in labor all night and we were hitting the home stretch here. "I deliver really fast so we need to leave now, unless you plan on catching this baby!"

Edward flew off the bed throwing on his sweats and bringing over a towel and a nightgown for me. He carefully slipped the gown over my head and lifted me from the bed.

Luckily, I had the presence of mind to grab his cell phone from the nightstand.

Edward kicked the last bedroom door next to the garage. "Harold! Harold!"

A sleepy eyed man in striped PJ's answered and his eyes widened in recognition when he saw me panting in Edward's arms.

He didn't stop to dress or even put his shoes on, he just grabbed his keys and quickly opened the door to the garage for us and then opened the door to the first car we came to. Harold took his job as chauffeur seriously and had planned out several routes to my hospital of choice.

He had planned every detail of this route down to even the timing of the street lights. I'd bet he didn't plan on having to listened to a screaming woman in the back of his car as he flew down the deserted streets, though.

I finally managed to take a breath and pulled Edward's phone up, but quickly shoved it in his face. I had hit the right buttons but the close contractions were keeping me from speaking.

"Labor and Delivery, how may I help you?" a voice said on the over the speaker.

"My Bella! My Bella is having my baby."

"Sir, could you please calm down? What's your wife's name?"

"Isabella Swan."

"How far along is she?"

"Her due date is in two weeks. Her water broke."

"Ok, Sir, just calm down. Who is her doctor?

"I don't know," Edward said in a panic. I tried to tell her but I couldn't catch my breath.

"Sir, can I speak to her?"

I was cringing through another contraction.

"I don't think so, she's having another contraction."

"How far apart are her contractions?"

"I don't know. A minute, maybe less, she had one just as she dialed the phone and she just had another one."

"Where are you, Sir?" Edward looked up to see we were just pulling into the hospital parking lot.

"We just arrived."

"Pull around to the maternity entrance. I'll meet you there with a wheelchair." Harold pulled right up to the doors and sure enough, a nurse was waiting there for us. Edward carried me over to her.

"Don't push, honey, whatever you do, don't push." She rushed me down the hall taking me straight into the delivery room.

The on call doctor was snapping on gloves as they helped me onto the bed. "Let see what's going on here, Ms. Swan. I'm going to check you now."

I nodded okay, cringing through another contraction.

"Well, you're a quick one, are you ready to push?"

"Yes!" I gasped.

The doctor found the baby's heartbeat. It was strong and as another contraction hit he encouraged me to push. Edward turned pale when there was a sudden gush of blood.

The nurse had him put his head between his legs and reassured him that it was normal.

I reached for him and he quickly took my hand kissing it. "You can do it, Love."

A few pushes later, a baby's cry filled the room. His little body squirmed in the doctor's arm as he offered Edward the snips to cut the cord. Edward looked at me unsure but I smiled at him and nodded that he should. The nurses took our son and cleaned him up and then brought him over to me.

Edward kissed us both on the head. "That, my Bella, was amazing. Look at our boy, he's just beautiful."

A couple of hours later, they had me settled into a room and the nurse brought our son in.

He had his father's nose and chin but my dark hair. He stretched and yawned, his adorable little dark blue eyes blinking against the light.

"Do you think his eyes will turn brown like yours, Love?" Edward asked as he marveled at his son.

"They look just like his sister's did when she was a newborn so I suspect he'll have green eyes just like yours and Elizabeth's." I yawned and stretched. "You should call your family."

"Of course, Love. Why don't I take him while you get some sleep?" He took the baby from my arms and settled into a rocking chair in the corner by the phone.

I smiled tiredly at him before my eyes closed.
