What does it mean to be completely fearless? Your subconscious works in ways that you might not realize. There are two types of people when it comes to fear. There are the people who get paralyzed by fear and they display that fear well. Then there are the people who have fears, but don't show it, they internalize fear and use it as fuel to keep them going past what would be their breaking point. Paralyzing fear is meant to protect you. It's the brain's way of saving you from dying. When you ignore those fear receptors in your brain, you… become dangerous.

"I can't believe you jumped twice." Lukas smiled at Bella. He was always amazed at her abilities, not because she was from Abnegation, but because she was so inspiring. Lukas was afraid of heights, more so than he should and it was likely one of his fears that would show up on the fear landscapes. He lifted his beer and took a drink.

"Hmm, well I found it fun." Bella said and knocked back one drink. She wasn't going to drink heavy only because she knew how she got when she wasn't sober. "I'm going to go get another tattoo." She said and then kissed Lukas on the cheek. "Have fun with your friends." She said and then she walked away to Tori's tattoo shop.

Jasper slapped Lukas on the back. "So that's a thing now?"

"What?" Lukas asked.

"You and Bella." Jasper said with a nod.

Lukas smiled a little. "Yeah, it's a thing."

"She seems to be calmed down some. You must have a magic dick or something." Jasper joked.

Lukas laughed and smiled and it really reached his eyes. "Well, we are learning communication, so there's hope." Jasper was Lukas's best friend. He was glad that Jasper came to Dauntless from Erudite. If you asked Lukas if he would be friends with a transfer recruit just last year, he might have said no. But now… he had a different view on life in Dauntless. Bella and Jasper were to blame for that.

Bella walked into the tattoo shop and smiled at Tori. "So. I want to get another tattoo, but on my back this time." She announced.

Tori smiled. "I am the gal to do it." She said and then watched Bella pull her shirt off and bra before laying on her stomach on the tattoo table. "Got anything in mind?"

"Nah, just surprise me." Bella said with a smile.

Tori went and got the plates for the tattoo machine and shuffled through them until she found one that would match her arm sleeve and loaded it into the machine. "So, I was researching some more about Charles Swan."

"The Dauntless legend." Bella said. "You said he had a child right? Not born here in Dauntless?"

"Yeah. Well, he might have been a legend, but he was not the settling type. He likely has other children." Tori said and the hum of the machine started up.

"So, what did you find out about him?" Bella asked.

Tori positioned the machine over Bella's back and hit a few things on the machine before it started. "Well, I found his personal notebook."

"What? Are you serious?" Bella was shocked.

"Yes, I was digging around his old place here in Dauntless." Tori said. "And I want you to not freak out because now you have lasers tattooing your back and if you move at all it will fuck your tat up."

Bella sighed. "Tori, I am not going to freak out."

Tori hesitated and then moved to her desk that had art scattered about and she unlocked a drawer and pulled out a black leather book. "Charles Swan did have children. He talks about Renee… Renee Prior in this."

"Aunt Renee?" Bella asked, frowning. "She died when I was born."

"Yes. He talks about that. But she died during childbirth." Tori kept going. "A girl. Charles talks about a little girl here. A daughter that he would never meet because she was going to be in Abnegation."

Bella wasn't sure she understood. "I would know if I have a cousin. Mom or dad never talked about it. I found something once with her name on it and I asked them about her and they said that she was my aunt. That was it. They never said that she had a kid. I know all the kids my age in Abnegation."

Tori was quiet a moment. "He has a picture of the little girl. It's from when she was five. He has her name written here."

"Okay. Show me." Bella said, turning her face to the side to look at Tori.

Tori hesitated but she took the picture out of the book and showed it to Bella.

Bella frowned. "Wait."

"The little girl is you Bella. Isabella Marie Prior. He wrote it here." Tori said and flipped the book around.

Bella took the picture and looked at it. It was her. She knew what she looked like because her mother allowed them to look in the mirror once a year on their birthday. But her mother also didn't know that she snuck a look in the mirror other days too. "It's me." She murmured. She wasn't sure how to feel. "Tris and Caleb, we've always… we're all the same age…."

"Renee and Natalie were pregnant at the same time." Tori said. "I know this is a lot to take in."

It was a lot to take in. This was something that she wasn't sure she could even begin to navigate through. What did this mean? Tris and Caleb were her cousins. They grew up as siblings and it was starting to make sense to her. Why she was so different or felt different than her brother and sister.

"Are you okay?" Tori asked.

Bella swallowed and nodded. She handed Tori the picture. "I'm okay. I just have to process this." The machine came to a stop, which meant her tattoo was finished. Tori shifted, moving the machine away so Bella could sit up. She grabbed her bra and shirt and slipped them on before she looked at Tori again. "Thank you… for telling me." She said and then she kissed her friend's cheek and she left, her mind reeling.

Lukas traced the tattoo that was on Bella's back. The tribal design matched her arm perfectly. They were both naked and laying in the bed in their secret room. Sex was always so passionate and earth shattering and they rarely got to just lay here with one another and enjoy each other's company. Bella was thinking about what Tori showed her and told her. Her real father was Charles Swan, a Dauntless legend. It made a lot sense to her now that she thought about it. She was drawn to Dauntless and never felt like she fit in in Abnegation from the start, but she wasn't Dauntless. She was Divergent and that brought all the confusion back again. She didn't know how she was supposed to even feel at this point. She was being pulled in so many directions.

"You seem like you're deep in thought." Lukas murmured.

Bella turned her head a little and looked at him. She smiled a little. "Maybe."

"We left the bazaar pretty quick. Did something happen after your tattoo?" Lukas asked.

Bella didn't know what to tell him. How much should she tell him? Tori said that Divergents were hunted and killed. She couldn't possibly tell Lukas that she was Divergent, but she couldn't hide everything from him. "You can't tell anyone this." She started.

Lukas shifted a little in the bed, so he could prop himself up. "Swearing me to secrecy? Is it something bad?"

"No… I don't think so." Bella murmured. "But it changes things for me personally."

"Okay." Lukas said and rubbed a hand over her back. "I won't talk about it." He reassured her.

Bella bit her lip. "I found out today that I was adopted by my parents. Tris and Caleb aren't my brother and sister."

"What?" Lukas sat up all the way now, which prompted Bella to sit up too.

"My biological father is Charles Swan." Bella said it, and she felt relieved that she had said it out loud.

Lukas's brows furrowed together. "The Charles Swan?"

"Yes." Bella said and she studied Lukas. "What… what do you think… about that?"

Lukas thought about it, but he shook his head. "I think that is insane. Charles Swan never married. He was a legend for a reason. He did all the most dangerous things. He was the epitome of what Dauntless is supposed to be."

"It's in his journal." Bella said. "He had a picture of me and he even wrote my name in it specifically saying I am his daughter."

"Fuck. That's…."He drifted off. "Are you okay?"

Bella blew out a breath. "Yeah. I guess I am. I mean. It makes sense. I never felt like I fit in… Abnegation was really stifling and I understand why everyone calls us Stiffs." She said with a small smile. She looked down at her hands. "I guess… I just wish that I grew up here. I think that I would have been better suited for Dauntless if I was born here."

"Does Tris know?"

"Oh no. I don't think I'll tell her. I mean, we grew up as siblings, that's not something you turn off." She shook her head. "This doesn't change anything."

Lukas leaned in and kissed her. "Well, then it doesn't change anything." He murmured and then his hands shifted to her hips, and she giggled a little when he flipped her to her back and he hovered over her.

Eric looked at the board, his arms crossed. There were some disappointments on here, Dauntless born that should have transferred to another faction, but were afraid of change. He saw movement out the corner of his eyes and he looked over and saw Lukas and Bella walking through, their hands laced together. Lukas smiled and pulled Bella to him and kissed her with so much adoration. Neither had noticed that he was there yet, so he didn't say anything to let them know he was present.

Bella smiled at Lukas. "You ready for next week?" She asked as she leaned against him, her arms wound up around his neck.

"Mmm. Yes, fear landscapes are… interesting." Lukas said with a smile. "What kind of fears do you think will pop up for you?"

Bella wasn't sure, but she was afraid of Tris finding out about not being her sister. "Well, I don't want Tris to find out about Charles Swan. I think she's too fragile to even hear that I'm not her sister biologically. That Charles Swan is my father and everything that we've known our entire lives, isn't the truth. If that pops up in my fear landscapes, then I have a problem."

Lukas ran his hands up and down her sides. "Well, hopefully it doesn't, but if it does, then we figure it out then." He said and kissed her again. "You're pretty fearless outside that. I think you're going to do great."

Eric thought at first he didn't hear it right, but Bella saying that Charles Swan was her father changed a lot of things for himself. He was a little stunned and everything that he had thought about his lost sister was getting mixed up in his head now. Charles Swan was his father and if he was Bella's father too… that meant that she was the sister that his mother told him about. He stood there in deep thought, thinking about Bella and how that changed things.

Bella and Lukas walked farther into the training room and found Eric staring at the board. She raised a brow. "It's one in the morning. Do you normal stand here and stare at the board?" She asked as she walked up and stopped next to Eric.

Eric looked at her, studying her face, and he saw it then. The resemblance to Charles their father. It was in her eyes, the shape, her cheekbones. "What?" He asked, not sure he heard what she said.

Bella looked at Lukas and then back at Eric. "Are you okay?" She asked.

"Yeah." Eric murmured. "Yeah I'm good."

"Maybe you should go get sleep." Lukas said and put his arm around Bella. "You look tired."

Eric nodded and looked back at the board. "Yeah." He said and looked back at Lukas and Bella. "You should be in the sleeping quarters, not using empty rooms to have sex." He said, snapping back to his typical Eric self.

Bella smiled a little. "We're headed that way." She said and then smiled at Lukas before looking back at Eric. "See you in the AM chief." She said and then walked away with Lukas.

Eric watched them leave. "Chief." He murmured. It was something Charles had said to him a few times. There was no way Bella knew that, or even met Charles. It was peculiar and it made him curious even more so.
