The planet Lyro has been devoured by an apocalyptic virus, destroyed utterly and wholly with nothing left to remain. Nothing left except, it would seem, an Earth canine. The dog becomes the key to unlocking the mystery of what happened to Lyro, and due to it's fierce attachment to Spock, puts the Commander in a heavy compromised position. H/C as chapters progress. Why were the Gorn really on Cestus-3... and why did they go after the Federation with a vengeance?

This is based off the episode in Star Trek (The Paradise Syndrome) where Kirk is stuck with no memory on the planet that worships him as a God. Basically, Jim is stuck, and Spock didn't save him or blow up the asteroid that was threatening everybody. Bones said that for 4 months Spock didn't eat or sleep for guilt, and my inner writer exploded. Heavy angst.
