Before Buffy jumped to her death in “The Gift”, she slept with Spike. When Willow resurrects her, she essentially re-animates ALL of the dead cells in Buffy’s body. In other words, not only does the spell resurrect her, but it also gets her pregnant.

Angel has admitted that Spike is alive, and Buffy has gone to Cleveland to search for him. Once she locates him, they find themselves assisting Faith and an old vampire for whom Spike has been working to prevent a takeover of the hellmouth by another old vampire who is not as slayer-friendly as Spike's friend.

How would 'Buffy' have played out if Jesse had survived to become a full-fledged member of the Scooby Gang? How are friendships and group dynamics changed by his presence? When Spike and Drusilla break up over the disagreement of how best to treat a young child, Spike takes the child and leaves. Some cultures say souls go on an after-death journey of discovery, resolution, and possible return to the living. This is Spike's journey after Chosen. It's a bit random, but leads him to believe Buffy did mean "I love you" in the cavern. Even better, after resurrection, he tells her and hears her say it again.
