Gargoyles Shattered Mirror - Prelude

By Celgress

Destine Mansion NYC, night

"That's it! That's what I want! If you cannot eliminate all the humans, then at least rid me of that human Elisa Maza!" Demona ranted after seeing Elisa's image alongside Goliath's image in Titania's mirror.

"Did you say that human or that human? Oh, never mind, I'll figure it out. This just might be fun after all." Puck giggled. He was glad Demona finally had decided to spit out her wish. But of course, he could not kill Elisa for the law of Oberon forbid it. A Fae could not directly take the life of a mortal via a spell as he had informed Demona earlier, although this did not stop Puck's more malicious brethren from trying to do so on multiple occasions.

Demona became angrier upon hearing his words. "Yes, get me rid of this...human," The last word she pronounced with extra venom. "Rid me of this human...FOREVER!"

'Oh, this was not good,' Puck thought. He had to oblige Demona's orders. This meant that Elisa would never be the same again. Elisa's life would be altered forever, trapped in the form he had chosen for her. But he had no choice. He hoped she can get over it. Judging by the way she looked at the big Gargoyle leader perhaps there was hope she would be happy about her fate after all, eventually...

"I will now rid you of the human Elisa forever!" Greenlight energy surged out of Puck into the mirror onto the image of the human Elisa. "The human Elisa Maza is no more!" Puck proclaimed a few seconds later.

Demona rubbed his hands together with glee. Her expression of evil delight, however, quickly changed. "Wait, I thought you said you couldn't kill the humans yet you got rid of Elisa forever. You were holding out on me that makes me angry Puck! I hate being toyed with!" Demona's eyes flashed red as she pulled roughly on Puck's chain. "Now, I want you to do the same thing you did to Elisa, to every human in the city! I want them gone, every human here, gone forever like Elisa is!"

"Believe me, you have no idea what you are asking." Puck said earning another painful tug on his makeshift iron-linked leash.

"Do it, or suffer! I won't ask again!" Demona snarled.

"Very well, milady," Puck said with a mock bow.

Skating Rink several hours later after the Gargoyles captured Puck and Demona, near dawn

"Return everyone to their true forms Puck, then you'll be freed." The human Goliath commanded. He was tired of all the madness tonight had brought and only wished for normality.

"As you wish, but after this I'll need a very long nap," Puck said. He turned to the clan "I heal the gargoyles!" Green energy engulfed the clan returning them to their true forms.

"Wait! What about me and the other humans?" Elisa protested. She was still in her gargoyle form. "We're not gargoyles why aren't you changing us back too!"

Puck knew he now had to break the truth to her. He just hoped that he would get any lasting injuries due to his iron-weakened state. "I can't return you and the other former humans of this city to your human forms." Once he said this, an angry gargoyle-Elisa pinned him to the roof. Her eyes glowed red.

"What do you mean by 'I can't'?!" she growled showing her sharp fangs.

"I...I can't! Demona said 'Rid me of these humans...forever'. I had to oblige her wish by making the change permanent I want to undo it, I truly do. But I can't!" For the first time, Puck was consumed by mounting panic. Elisa could decide to do him serious harm while he was helplessly bound by the iron chain.

Demona laughed, her previous bad mood had vanished. "Looks like there will be at least something I get from this; no more human filth in New York City! Even fake gargoyles are better than real humans, ha ha ha."

Elisa simply dropped Puck, she then ran away to the far corner of the roof sobbing the whole time. Puck's relief was only short-lived when now instead of Elisa a much angrier Goliath grabbed him by the throat. "You mean that you have cursed them to give up their past existence?!" Goliath growled. His eyes were brilliant white. He looked as if he was ready to break the Fae's neck at any second.

"You are growling at the wrong person! She is the one, who made the wishes!" Puck pointed to Demona an act that resulted in him being dropped to the ground for a second time that night. "Elisa and the other humans are only unharmed thanks to me. Demona wanted them dead or maimed, but phrased it poorly giving me wiggle room." Puck added just to make sure everyone understood the situation. He knew the part about death was untrue yet he hoped this would score him points with the enraged Goliath.

Goliath simply ripped apart the chains holding Puck much to the Fae's relief "Go!" Goliath said. "We don't want to see you ever again."

"Fine by me," Puck said. He did not need another invitation. Grabbing Demona by her still intact chains, he disappeared into the mirror, which then disappeared too, leaving the clan alone on the roof.

Walking to Elisa, Goliath gently helped her up, holding her steady while they returned to the others. She had now stopped crying, but it was clear that she felt horrible. "Back to the clock tower. Dawn is approaching, so we have to decide tomorrow...what to do next." Holding Elisa close to himself, he launched into the air. The others followed them.

"On the upside, there are now plenty of girl gargoyles around like those friendly ones we saw at the subway station. They were hot." Lexington commented excitedly only to be slapped in the back of his head by Brooklyn, "Ouch!"

"Dammit, just shut up Lex! Rein it in! We have more important things to worry about like helping Elisa." Brooklyn hissed.

Somewhere in New York City, earlier that night

Sata Kaneshiro saw no other option. Her study period in America would end next month once she completed her pre-medical degree in biology. She could not return to her family in Japan who expected her to become a Yakuza wife. She wanted to eventually use her medical skills to heal those in need not in the service of those who inflicted harm. Maybe someday she could become a doctor but she knew that was impossible. Sata also knew she would rather die than embrace the criminal ways of her family but she would die on her terms. She would not commit ritual suicide; no disembowelment with a short sword despite her years of material arts training with such weapons. Mustering all her courage she jumped from her dormitory roof but death never came for the pale blue-skinned beaked gargoyle, instead, she clumsily glided to the ground landing in a painful heap.

"What was I thinking?" Sata said to herself. "Due to muscle reflex, gargoyles cannot die by falling unless their wings have been clipped first. I'll need another method of dealing with my problems. Maybe this is a sign that I should live." Sata made her slow painful way to the nearest wall. With some effort due to her minor injuries, she scaled the building. "I'm lucky I didn't suffer any series injuries. I'll feel better tomorrow night after a nice stone sleep heals my body."

Castle Wyvern atop the Eyrie Building several hours later, morning

"Welcome home, Mr. Xanatos." Owen Burnett greeted his master opening the helicopter door for Xanatos and Fox. "I trust your business trip went well?"

"It did," Xanatos confirmed.

"Much has transpired during your absence," Owen informed his master. "One might say, as you would put it Master Xanatos, the game is afoot."

"How interesting, what has occurred during our absence to get you so excited?" Fox asked taking note of the usually unflappable butler's agitated state.

"Yes, Owen, do tell," Xanatos said with a smirk.

To Be Continued

Author's Note One – I've decided to craft a composite mate for Brooklyn using the fan-made Sata and the semi-canonical Katana. Simply put, Sata will be Katana's original human identity. Sata's surname or family name of Kaneshiro is taken from the crime boss in the game Persona.
