The Second Secret

Prolegomenon

Edelweiss sat in her porch swing on her back patio. All the dragons were out sunning themselves. Queen Avalon and King Eider were among them, paying a visit to the other half of their team. It was a very quiet morning, they were all waiting for the riders who were currently having breakfast. Edelweiss was anxious, once they all arrived she would tell them her second big secret. She had already told several of the wild dragons in the Realms, and the story was spreading.

Soon they heard the riders approaching. The dragons sat up excitedly as they came out onto the patio. Their dragons went to greet them. Tom noticed Avalon and Eider.

"Hey Avalon," he said. "Hey Eider."

"Good morning Tom," said Avalon pleasantly. "Good morning riders."

"Edelweiss said she was finally going to tell us her second secret," said Jun.

"Yes," said Avalon. "I've come to tell parts of the story that she wasn't present for."

"I've already told many of my dragon friends in the Realms," said Edelweiss. "And the adult Night Lights already know it." She took several deep breaths.

"If you're not ready to tell us yet, it's okay," said Jun.

"No, I've put this off for too long," said Edelweiss. Just then Apollo handed her a small chunk of crystal.

"I've enchanted this," he whispered in dragontongue. "It'll keep these guys from spreading this secret to the other humans." He glanced at his sister, who nodded her approval. Edelweiss clutched the crystal. The riders all sat on the patio next to their dragons.

"All right," she sighed. "All I can do is tell you this story, whether or not you believe it happened is up to you." The riders just nodded. Edelweiss cleared her throat, placing her hand on the mysterious scar on her chest. "Well, this took place a few hundred years ago, in the Fall. The first three Night Lights were about Thunder's age. It was just before one of Avalon's council meetings."
