Old memories flashed through Yua's head: memories of happier times.
Her father, the great doctor of Rhodes Island, teaching her how to play chess and learning basic survival skills...
Her mother, the strong and beautiful Chen, teaching her how to wield a sword, hoping one day she would be able to pass down her legendary blade to her daughter.
Going out for bike rides with Miss Hoshiguma on the lungman highway...
Getting spoilt by Miss Swire with expensive presents every time she saw her..
Amiya being the best big sister she could have ever wished for, always ready to listen and help, despite how busy she was...
The lovely family holidays with her mother and father whenever they had time off: just to be with them when they could be a normal family...
As Yua came too, she woke up with tears in her eyes, remembering when life was so much better and happier, and not every day having to fight for survival and be constantly on the move with Rhodes Island to avoid being found by the seaborn that had ravaged nearly all of Terra.
As she stood up to clear her head and get her bearings, she saw that she was in a lush green field with no sign of destruction or any trace of the seaborn. That's when Yua realized that the device had worked; she was now in the past.
Realizing she could never return to her own time, Yua quietly thanked those who had sacrificed so much to give her a chance to flee. After her thanks, Yua then decided that she needed to start on her goal of changing the future. The first step in this endeavor would be locating Rhodes Island… but where should she start?
Deciding the best thing to do was to find some civilization, she set off in a random direction, hoping to gain some information on where Rhodes Island was located and rejoin the past selves of the people she knew and loved.
In the future
The battle was over, and the scenes of destruction could be seen all around Ch'en. As she stood up on shaky legs, she could see the bodies of her allies, each with numerous injuries. The sight of them dead nearly made Ch'en throw up; she had to get out of this room.
Seeing a staircase leading to a balcony, she slowly began walking up it, using the handrail for support as she felt the weight of her own injuries bearing down on her. She could barely stay upright and conscious. When Ch'en finally reached the balcony, all she could see was more destruction - fire and smoke were visible across the landship, and the sounds of fighting could still be heard.
Ch'en knew it was pointless; whoever was left would soon be dead. She wanted to shout at them all to flee, but she didn't have the strength, so she simply collapsed against the balcony. She began to think about happier times with her friends and family...
Getting married to the doctor...
Yua being born and free from infection...
Everyone celebrating Yua's first birthday...
Teaching Yua how to use a sword...
"At least she is safe now," Ch'en thought as the sounds of battle continued in the background. Ch'en wished she could have gone with her, even if only to see her husband and old friends one last time. She let out a hollow laugh as she realized there was no guarantee she would have gone to the same time as her daughter.
Her thoughts were broken by sounds coming from the stairs. "So these monsters are looking to finish me off," Ch'en thought to herself. Within seconds, she found herself surrounded by seaborn. Ch'en shouted to the seaborn, "Finish me off then, you monsters!"
They didn't attack her. This left Ch'en confused. "Why aren't they attacking?" she wondered. More noise came from the stairs, and the seaborn began to part. As whatever got closer, Ch'en could see what it was, and it shocked her to the core...it was someone who she had long thought had died.
Skadi...
"It can't be!" Ch'en exclaimed, shocked and horrified; she could not believe that this person was standing in front of her, looking as if she hadn't aged a day since Ch'en had last seen her many years ago. What was she doing here, and why weren't the seaborn attacking her?
"That's right they aren't attacking her." Ch'en was starting to piece together a grim picture of what was going on here. This person, a former ally, was in fact leading these monsters that had destroyed the lives of so many people.
This made Ch'en angrier than she had ever been in her entire life; this person was why her friends and family where dead and why her daughter Yua had to be sent to the past.
Ch'en cursed Skadi with everything she had. She threw every lungman slur she could think of at Skadi and damned her soul to the deepest depths of hell.
It was unknown whether it was because of the adrenaline or the anger that Ch'en managed to stand up on her feet and drew her blade Chi-Xiao and pointed it towards Skadi and the seaborn around her.
"Even if I can't stop the seaborn, I can at the very least end this monster here and now!" she told herself.
As if in response to her emotions, Chi-Xiao began to glow and pulse with power. With all the strength she had, she swung her blade towards Skadi and, with an almighty explosion, her sword connected.
A massive cloud of dust was created and Ch'en collapsed to her knees, a smile forming on her face. "See you in hell, Skadi." Ch'en thought to herself. When the dust cloud cleared, however, Ch'ens smile was replaced with a look of shock.
The surroundings and seaborn were completely destroyed, but Skadi stood there completely unharmed. Tears then formed in Chen's eyes as she realized that the attack had been completely useless; Ch'en was completely broken by this.
Cursing her own weakness, Ch'en screamed towards the heavens and cursed Skadi and the seaborn. Her screams were then silenced as she felt a sharp object pierce her chest.
Ch'en saw the face of Skadi, completely unmoving and uncaring. As she felt the blood in her throat and the taste of iron in her mouth, she spat in the face of Skadi as one last act of defiance before she collapsed and her vision turned black.
