Chapter 32
"We will feast tonight!" Jamil crackled as he lounged in a large chair in the center of the lounge with the blot form behind him.
"Yes, my master." The students answered.
"This power feels so refreshing." Jamil smirked.
"You're so powerful!" A student praised.
"Yes, praise me!" Jamil chuckled making all the students praise him.
"You're so handsome." Azul chuckled.
"You're so smart." Floyd laughed.
"You're so clever." Jade smirked.
"What!? How did you get back so quickly?!" Jamil snapped looking to his right to see the dripping group.
"We swam obviously." Odette scowled pushing her wet white bangs out of her face.
"It seems you finally found a use for your power." Jamil scoffed.
"You underestimate Kalim." Grim shouted at him.
"He's right. He filled a river within minutes that's a great power." Azul said.
"Jamil, you're a coward and a traitor. I'm here to challenge you for the position of Dorm Leader that you stole from me." Kalim exclaimed pointing at Jamil.
"Stole? Do you know who much you've stolen from me! Everything! I'll show you true power!" Kalim snarled as he stood up from his throne.
With that the battle began Odette stood off to the sidelines with her back pressed against the wall. She took deep breathes and closed her eyes trying to keep herself calm but the pain still rose. The darkness still crept around the edges of her vision.
As the darkness took over she could her Jamil's voice and see his memories.
He was a young boy in a palace as a young Kalim ran up to him excited. "Come on Jamil let's go play that board game again! I want to see if I can beat you today." Kalim cheered.
"I don't want to. Playing with you is boring since I always win." Jamil answered. Suddenly he felt a smack in the back of his head.
"Jamil! You can't talk to Kalim that way!" His mother scolded then bowed to Kalim. "Thank you for being so kind to my son and always playing with him."
'My first memory is of my parents bowing to Kalim and his parents.' Jamil thought as Azul delivered the final blow. 'And I hate it.'
"Just let him win 3 out of 5 times. You still can win just not more than him. You're smart you know the situation we're in. You understand don't you?" His father explained.
'Kalim's parents are above mine so he is above me. I'm better than Kalim but I can't surpass him. I just have to pretend to be incapable. He's an airhead you can't beat me I just let him. I thought it might be different here but it's just more of the same.' Jamil thought as he passed out. 'All adults are the same, asking if I understand. I do, but who will understand me?'
Once Jamil was defeated Odette quickly recovered.
"That was a terrible time to take a nap." Grim scolded as she pushed herself off the wall.
"It's not like we could help it." She snapped back. "Jamil must be defeated. Is he okay?" She asked as she went over to the group.
"He's alive but he's not waking up." Azul explained as Jade laid Jamil out somewhere comfortable.
"That was the longest someone has been in that form, maybe the longer they're in that form the longer it takes to wake up." Odette suggested.
Jamil did finally wake up nearly half an hour later.
"You're finally awake. You shouldn't move to quickly, it'll make you dizzy." Azul explained as Odette put a fresh damp washcloth on his forehead.
"That other form of yours is going to give me nightmares for weeks." Grim said as he rested on Odette's shoulder.
"Thank the sevens you're okay." Kalim said as he began to cry then sob.
"It seems he forgot all about that punch." Floyd chuckled as he patted Kalim's head.
"We can't understand you when you're crying like that." Jade gently told him.
"I'm glad you survived Jamil. I'm sorry I didn't realize you were suffering and how long you've been suffering." Kalim sniffed.
"Which lead to this betrayal in the first place." Azul sighed.
"He has spent his entire life thinking you're a fool." Jade pointed out.
"An idiot." Floyd added.
"Guys!" Odette snapped at them glaring at them.
"Learn to read the room." Grim sighed.
"Please forget our parent's relationship that doesn't have to effect ours. I don't want our relationship to be servant and master. I want us to be friends, let's be equals." Kalim smiled down at Jamil.
"I refuse!" Jamil snapped sitting up shocking everyone. "You're clueless, clumsy and tactless. Why would I want to be friends with someone like you? If it wasn't for circumstances I would never associate with the likes of you."
"Are you kidding me?" Grim asked.
"After all this? This is how you act?" Odette asked
"What a jerk." They exclaimed in unison.
"It's fine. He's finally being his real self." Azul smiled.
"Why are you smiling like that?" Grim asked floating up in the air now.
"It's kinda creepy." Jamil informed him.
"I've been curious about you since freshman year, you never tried to stand out, you were an average student. Completely average in everything, that has to be practiced. No one is average at everything so when the Ramshackle Trio sounded up it started to make sense." Azul explained.
"That explains why he agreed to help us." Odette sighed.
"For example Azul is great at potions but is terrible at gym." Jade explained with a smile.
"When we played the board game the other night it become crystal clear. You lost just enough to keep us interested and Floyd in a good mood." Azul said ignoring Jade. "So my hunch was correct, Jamil possession amazing skills and is very intelligent."
"I've always know that." Kalim grinned returning to normal sunny self.
"You would fit right in at Octavinelle, it would be a much better fit than Scarabia. Together we could build an empire." Azul smirked.
"Absolutely not! You're always shoving your nose into other people's business and you have a shady reputation. I would never be friends with you neither." Jamil said making everyone laugh.
"Oh he told you." Jade teased.
"I don't mind, I got the information I wanted, I'll add it to my collection." Azul smiled.
"And there's the payment." Odette sighed.
"I feel used." Grim muttered rolling his eyes.
"I won't hold back anymore." Jamil said to Kalim with a serious look on his face.
"Good." Kalim grinned.
"We should probably get you to bed." Odette said as she and Azul helped Jamil to his feet.
"Just because they all forgave you doesn't mean I'll let you off the hook, use that ability on me again and you'll regret it." Odette hissed into his ear.
Jamil looked at her a bit shocked.
"Now off to bed with you." Odette said handing Jamil over to Jade and Floyd.
"I'm going back to my dorm but I'll be back in the morning." Odette informed Kalim and Azul. She scooped up Grim and left.
"Jeez I almost forgot it was winter." Odette sighed as they reached their dorm. "I almost want to go back."
"You're back!" Ghost A said appearing at the gate. "We were staying to get worried."
"We fed the fairies while you were gone. I'm glad you're okay." Ghost B informed them.
"Oh no! I completely forgot." Grim exclaimed.
"Oh man me too, and even after Crowley sent all that food over because of it." She said. "Thank you so much for doing that for us. I appreciate it."
"You had a visitor while you were gone." Ghost A informed them as they entered the dorm.
"Oh so the Scarabia students did come looking here." Odette replied as she made her way up the staircase.
"Them too, but Lilia Vanrouge stopped by first." Ghost B said.
"Lilia? I wondered what he wanted." Grim yawned.
"Me too, I wish I hadn't missed him." She sighed.
She was soon fast asleep and didn't hear someone knocking on the door.
Lilia was the one knocking he had come to check on Odette and Grim.
"She's fast asleep. I don't know what she was doing over at Scarabia but she looked worn out." Ghost A said as he appeared on the porch.
"She fell asleep as soon as she got home." Ghost B added as he appeared too.
"Aw poor thing." Lilia replied.
As they were standing there Grim slipped pass them, his nose to the ground like a dog.
"What is he up too?" Lilia wondered raising an eyebrow.
The ghost just shrugged.
Grim went back to the Scarabia and found a black gem on the ground and gobble it up. "Mhhh spicy." He hummed.
