When our eyes opened, we were in a field. The same field where the crows attacked. We went through all the fears as I taught him along the way. When I unhooked us, I typed on my phone, and it spoke "Now you know." He said "Tris…" I shook my head moving my finger to my lips. I quickly texted on my phone. "Take the night off, now. I'll see you at dinner."
I ended up going to the pit and getting a few things done, as well as picked up a few things and using Eric's card. He never usually splurged much, and I never usually had enough points. When I returned to the apartment I punched in the code and entered. After I put everything away, I looked at my reflection. "Tris!" I went out to Eric. "Caleb said you freaked out about something… Are you alright?" He hugged me tight, kissing my head. "I'm sorry… Come on. I bet your hungry. Let's get some dinner." I nodded as we walked to the café. I ended up sitting with Chris and Will cause Eric wanted to keep everything about our relationship on the down low.
"Tris. You are being stupid! Eric is a manipulative, egotistical, dickhead with a stick shoved up his ass. What do you see in a guy like that?! He's just using you!" "Say that again to my face." My phone spoke as I typed it in. We stood which is when she knocked my phone out of my hand and to the ground completely shattering it. My eyes searched the crowd that was forming around us for either one set of eyes, or two. My eyes locked on Eric's almost immediately, which seeing my distress sent Eric right over, his eyes searching mine for the story which I couldn't give. "Christina." He turned towards her. "What was this fight about?" Christina said "Nothing. She just over reacted when I asked a question." I shook my head tapping Eric's shoulder, He turned to me, before saying "Tris, act it out." I pointed to Chris. "Chris." Eric guessed and I nodded. I moved my hand open and shut. "Talking?" I nodded again. I did the sign for bad. "Bad." I nodded smiling, before I pointed to him. "Chris was talking bad about me?" Eric guessed as I nodded, then pointed to the shattered phone. Eric frowned and said "Go home, I'll be there soon." I nodded and went to the house. I went to the bathroom where I threw up, frowning as it got in my hair. When I looked at my reflection, I sighed and changed before I picked up the scissors before I started cutting
I heard the front door open, and Eric called my name. I went out and without warning I threw my arms around his neck. "Hey... shh. It's okay..." He rocked me till I calmed down and snuggled close. "I love the hair, Tris." He whispered as I blushed. We sat on the bed, as he handed me a phone. "I got it after I scolded Chris and put her on probation, and if she says anything like she did today, or does anything as disrespectful as she did today, she's going to be factionless. Thank you for trying to stand up for me. I really appreciate it." I smiled and nodded. "I've already backed up everything from your old phone to your new one, so the app that helps you talk should be on there, and if it isn't, we'll get it on there tomorrow." I nodded before yawning. "let's get some sleep. Tomorrow's going to be here before you know it." I pointed to him then the spot next to me. "Let me change." I nodded, as he changed. Once he was in his pajamas, he laid beside me and opened his arms causing me to curl up in his chest where I fell asleep.
In the morning I woke when I heard a loud noise from the bathroom. I ran in and saw Eric on the ground. He looked to me, probably seeing my worry. "Don't worry… I'm okay." He said as I gave him my hand, and helped him up, which he took gratefully, pulling himself up. "Thank you." I smiled and nodded before giving a raised eyebrow as if to ask what happened. "I just slipped on some soap… I'm okay for the most part though." He soothed. I nodded a little before we got ready. I typed something on my phone, and it said "Eric, your limping, and grimacing in pain. For my sake will you go get checked out?"
He looked to me and nodded but said "I'll go after breakfast." I nodded, knowing it was the best I could get. We went to the café where we sat together. "Hey kids! Tris, can you and Caleb come to my office after breakfast?" Caleb came up behind me. "Sure." After breakfast while Eric was in the infirmary, Caleb and I were in Max's office. "Your mother was dauntless and was pregnant before she defected… You and Caleb are my children." I typed and my phone said "I want a DNA test." He agreed and we went to the infirmary and did the swabs. It would take a couple days to get the results according to Marlene.
Me and Caleb went to the training room where Eric and Four were. Eric's leg was in a cast, and he had crutches. I immediately ran to him. "Babe don't freak out… it's just a broken leg. I'll be fine." My phone spoke "Just?! JUST A BROKEN LEG?! Eric!" He leaned up kissing my lips gently. I sighed as I typed. "I'm sorry. I'm just extremely worried about you." He gave a small smile and said "I know, honey. But I'll be okay." I looked down, as he pulled me gently to his good leg. Caleb and Four were going at it badly this time. "Do you want to intervene?" I typed in my phone. Eric said "I have to." I shook my head before getting up and shoving Four off Caleb "BACK OFF STIFF!" I saw red, as I flung Four across the room. Caleb immediately got to his feet putting his hands on my shoulder, which is when Eric appeared. "Tris calm down. It's okay. I'm here." I took a deep breath to try and settle my nerves, but it didn't help, I ended up leaning a little towards Eric inhaling his scent and felt even calmer after.
Four came over and knocked me down. "Hey, Four... Be careful who you shove around." I heard Eric say, as Caleb dropped beside me. "Shh. Are you alright?" I shook my head, as Eric looked to me. I let him see my hand move to my invisible baby bump. "Caleb, Get her to the infirmary. NOW" "No way, we're not leaving you here with him." Caleb said as he moved me out of the way. "I'm not asking. I'm Telling!" Eric said. Caleb sighed but obeyed. I wasn't even sure how long it was, but Marlene FINALLY came in. "Tris, I'm so sorry I took so long, we had a last minute emergency." I typed "Is everyone okay?" "It was both Four and Eric." I typed "WAIT ERIC?!" Just then Eric wheeled in. "Tris. I'm right here." His hand grabbed mine. I felt his thumb draw little hearts on the back of my hand. "Mar, how is she? How's the baby?" Eric asked. "Well, I'm concerned..." I typed "Why?! What's wrong?!" Marlene said "Calm down Tris. Don't make me have to sedate you." Eric said "Just tell us why you're concerned."
"Okay Okay... When Four knocked her down, he punched her in the stomach, either when she went down or after she was down. Her jaws also in bad shape. Not broken but might be fractured, but not enough to prevent her from eating." Eric looked at me lovingly before saying "Did you do an ultrasound?" Marlene shook her head and said "Haven't had a second. Let me get the supplies and we can check on baby." We nodded as she left. "I'm here baby. Do you want to talk about it?" I typed. "Would you be mad if I lost the baby?" Eric's eyes met mine, before managing to climb in beside me, wrapping his arms around me. "No." When Marlene came in and did the ultrasound, her face frowning. "Eric. Tris... I'm so sorry..." I looked to her and Eric. "What are you talking about?" Eric asked. Marlene took a deep breath and said "The baby's heart isn't beating... I'm so sorry... We have to remove it, now before it causes infection, but we're not able to handle it here, so we're going to get you too Erudite General." I looked at Eric, who nodded. He got me to Erudite, where they took me straight into surgery, while the Nurse mentioned stuff to Eric.
~Eric's Prov~
After the nurse left, I pulled out my phone.
Eric: Max, Tris and I need to be home for a few weeks, maybe longer... I'll explain, but I need you to take over Dauntless for a while...
Caleb: How's Tris?
Eric: I'll explain in person.
Caleb: I'm on my way.
Just then my phone rang, and I answered. "Max... I'm not okay... There's too much to say... I'll explain when we get home, it's doctors' orders though... Thanks Max." I hung up as I sat on the couch crying. "Eric." Caleb said, kneeling down beside me, his hand on my lap. "Look at me." I slowly brought my eyes to Caleb's. "I'm here. Tris is strong. What even happened? She said she was fine when I left." I said "She must've put on a brave face... She lost the baby..." "What baby?" Caleb asked. "She was pregnant... I don't know if she'll survive this Caleb... She looked so weak, and fragile... That's not her at all..." Caleb slapped me across the face before he said "Eric James Coulter! Shut the hell up with that! She'll survive, and she'll need you. You give her a strength I've never seen in her before. She's grown so much, and it's because of you!"
"But what if I can't be strong enough for her?" I whispered. "You're the strongest man I know, Eric, and I know something else. Seeing Tris, hurt or in pain or even her feeling weak and fragile, it brings out a strength in you, that you don't even know you have. Don't let your fear break you. You and Tris, both have me to lean on too. I'll be strong enough for both of you." "Thank you." I whispered, as a nurse came in. "Mr. Coulter?" I managed to stand before easing myself into the wheelchair and going over. "Yes?" "May we speak in private?" The nurse asked. "This is her brother. You can speak in front of him... Is she okay?" The nurse said "The doctor sent me to give an update and confirm her blood type." "She's type O+." Caleb answered, without a moment's hesitation. "Thank you. She'll be alright, I promise. She's suffering from a hemorrhage, but we can treat it. I'll be back soon." She left, as Caleb got me to the couch again where I sat head in my hands. "Eric." Caleb said as he sat next to me and wrapped his arms around me. My head fell to his shoulder. I needed Tris, but Caleb was close enough to her.
I don't even know how long we sat there for, but the doctor came in. "Mr. Coulter? Mr. Prior?" I looked up, before Caleb helped me steady myself before easing me into the wheel chair. I looked grateful as we went over. "Yeah, that's us. How is she?" I asked. The doctor said "Your fiancée will be just fine Mr. Coulter, she's a fighter." I smiled a little. "Can we see her?" Caleb asked. "In a minute, the nurse will come and get you, when she's settled in recovery." I said "Thank you." He nodded and left. "Fiancée?" Caleb questioned. "That's what I told the nurse, who gathered information when we got here... I know our relationship, has barely begun, and that you barely know me, But I love her. More than anything. I know she does too. We don't say it in words, but we show it in other ways. I want to marry her, Caleb, But I know she won't agree unless she has your blessing, even if you're her brother. You're the closest person she has to her dad." Caleb smiled and said "You guys have it." I smiled, and thanked him, as he put a hand on my shoulder. "I'm sorry for earlier... I needed to snap you out of it." Eric said "Don't be. You had a point, and I honestly needed it, and your reassurance." Caleb smiled. "Mr. Coulter, Mr. Prior. Come quick." The nurse said as she led us to the room. Tris was screaming my name. My hand grabbed hers, but it didn't soothe her enough. "Caleb, help me." Caleb helped me up, and in the beside Tris, as I wrapped my arms around her, which automatically stopped her sobs.
"She'll be just fine. We want to keep her for a couple days, just to make sure that she's out of the woods." The nurse said. "No overnight visitors, apart from you Mr. Coulter." I nodded, looking towards Caleb. "Don't even think about apologizing." "Visiting hours, are actually over, Mr. Prior..." Caleb came over and gave me a hug, before kissing Tris's head, whispering something to her. "Let me know if you need anything or need me to bring anything." I nodded, as I held her. "Thank you." I fell asleep holding my girl.
In the morning I woke up to Tris, moving. "Hey, wait." I said, as I adjusted us, so we were sitting. "There, better?" She looked up at me, nodding. "Are you Okay?" I asked, as she nodded once more. "Liar. It's okay if you aren't." I handed her, her phone. "I'm not okay, okay? I really wanted the baby, Eric..." her phone spoke, causing me to give a sad smile. "I know, honey. I did too... But it wasn't meant to be right now... Is there anything I can do for you?" she typed again. "Make this all go away... I want our baby back..." She started crying as she buried into my chest, causing me to rock her gently. "I would do it in a heartbeat if I could honey." I kept rocking her.
Eric: Caleb, I need you to stay at Dauntless, and train. It'd be best. You need to get through the training part, immediately.
Eric: Max, can you spare a few minutes and come up this morning? Maybe bring Tris and I a change of clothes?
Caleb: Of Course, I was going to come up around dinner time, if that was, okay?
Max: No problem. I'm going to drop off a few things so you can work from home, so I can pick up the clothes.
Eric: That's fine. When you come up, can you pick up and bring the ring? I already have it on reserved.
Eric: You are literally the best!
I spent the day taking care of Tris, best I could. I even told her what happened after Caleb got her to the infirmary. I had fought Four, and he ended up breaking my crutches, and when I fell, I ended up breaking my other leg, which is why I was confined to a wheel chair for the time being. When Caleb came up for dinner, he looked like he went through the ringer. "Caleb, what happened?!" Tris typed. "Training. Four beat me pretty badly, but I got my ground. Let's just say he won't be fighting for a while, I broke both his legs, and his arm, and possibly rendered him incapable of having kids anytime soon. He deserved worse in my opinion after what he did to you both." I kissed Tris's head, before saying "Caleb, you do know I have to punish you right? You cannot beat your instructor like that!" Caleb said "Max already talked to me about it. I told him what I could, nothing about Tris, or the main reason you guys are here. I just told him that Four's actions yesterday caused you to not be able to walk, and Tris in the hospital, with internal bleeding. Max said I could do what I felt right, and no punishment would be inflicted." I looked to Tris. "I'll let it slide. This once." We ate dinner, and I said "Wait Caleb. While your hear..." He handed me the ring box. "What's going on?" Tris had typed.
"Beatrice Kyleigh Marie Prior. I love you more than anything, I know I don't say it enough. I know more so now than ever that you're my soul mate. I swear every day since we met, you've turned my life upside down in the best way possible. From your first jump, to your defiance of injustice, to your bravery to face your attackers. I know our lives just got thrown upside down, and I'm so sorry, I couldn't protect you and the baby. I swear on my life, until our dying day, I will protect you a thousand times better. Will you marry me?" I saw tears in Tris's eyes, "Caleb?" She typed. "I already give my blessing Tris. Now answer the man!" I laughed, as Tris turned to me. 'Yes!" She typed, as I slid the ring on her finger. "Now get some rest, I'll see you both tomorrow, when you get home." Tris and I nodded.
