Following The Heart
Chapter 10
Hours Later
(Today was the longest day ever.) Brian announced.
(You know you weren't officially working yet. I was just showing you what to do.)
(And now we're off the the repair shop.) Lucas announced.
(When does it get fun?)Brian asked.
(I think once you learn how to do it all. You'll find it fun.) Lucas replied.
Brian laid down in the passenger seat.
(You used to come to work with me all the time.)
(You were younger than. I'm sure you don't remember.)
(And then when it was time for school. I brought Elijah and Belinda too.)
(I love being with all of you.) Lucas said.
They eventually got to the repair shop and worked there for some time.
By the time they were finished and had got back home. Brian had fallen asleep in the passenger seat.
...
Awhile later
(I did something. I showed what you wrote to one of my business contacts.)
(Lindsey Strauss. She's a huge editor for big writers in the business.)
(She loved what you wrote and wants to work with you. She gave me her card. You should set aside some time and meet with her.) Brooke explained.
Lucas stopped what he was doing and looked to her.
(Why didn't you leave this alone like I asked you too?) Lucas questioned.
(Lucas come on this is a once in a lifetime opportunity.)
(Don't you want more than this?)
(Working for hours on you're feet. The routine. The same customers.)
(You're capable of so much more than that.) Brooke insisted.
(Actually I'm perfectly happy with what I do.) Lucas replied.
(Because it's safe and predictable. No risk involved.)
(Because you're too afraid or lack in belief that you can do anything else.)
(Nobody expects you to be more to advance. They want you stuck here. Depending on you. And the fact you refuse to want more for yourself.) Brooke explained.
(This is about you. Wanting to prove to you're parents and any else that choosing me and this life wasn't a mistake.)
(I don't care about any of that. All that matters to me is you and the kids.) Lucas replied.
(I'm supporting and motivating. That is what a wife is supposed to do.)
(If you never wanted to move forward with a career as a writer why keep the story Luke? All these years. Hidden away.)
(I'll leave the card with you. Call her or don't. I just want to do what's right.)
(You gave me the chance to live my dream and I would do the same.)
(I want what you want. But don't turn this down if you really want it.)
(You'll regret it.)
(Falling in love with you. And marrying you were the best decisions I ever made.) Brooke replied. Before leaving their bedroom.
