Betty is determined to get to the bottom of things. Contains some language and sexual references.

Betty lied on top of her covers, she made no effort to get up even with the sun coming through the slits of her blinds; what was the point of trying after that humiliation?

'Go play with your dolls'.

They only thought of her as some little girl in way over her head.

"I'll show them," she said to herself, "I'll show them all."

She was interrupted by a knock at her door, she hollered earlier telling her mother she wasn't feeling well and would return to school in the afternoon.

"Betty! Your friend is outside!"

Friend?

Betty struggled to make herself decent, thoughts flooded her mind of maybe one of those Serpents found out where she lived but there was more annoyance in her mother's voice than sheer terror; she was a woman of class or at least what she wanted to believe, if someone was wearing anything other than pleats or poodle skirts she'd drop dead. Might do the whole world a favor.

She had no time to touch up her hair or put on makeup, whoever this was would have to settle for her zombie self, her mother was aghast when she saw her emerge from her quarters, forgetting their brief talk earlier about the golden child having stomach cramps.

"You're going to see her looking like that?"

Betty yawned, "Well if this is urgent I'm sure they'll give me a pass."

Her mother groaned, "I can't believe you sometimes. When I was your age I'd get the switch if I wasn't on time every morning."

Betty rolled her eyes, "Who's out there?"

The Matriarch folded her arms, "Oh, like you don't know."

Betty stared at her blankly, couldn't be the cops, her old friend Officer Brooks or what's his name from the dark corner of the room. She drew one of the curtains and peeked out the window, there was Veronica Lodge on her doorstep.

"That girl says you two are working on a school project. Do you expect her to do all of the work? Dammit, Betty, can't you keep your head screwed on right for one second? Don't you know who her parents are?"

Betty was growing worried, was Veronica stalking her? What was her angle? She couldn't have seen her with the Serpents last night, even if she did she didn't blab to her mother about it. Didn't mean she wasn't up to something.

"Well, are you going to go talk to her or are you going to just stand there with your mouth open, young lady?"

Betty closed her mouth and headed outside, she closed the door uncertain about their conversation leaking but she knew her mother would still be spying. Veronica's sultry eyes were on her like magnets, Betty could only think of one thing to say, "Please don't makeout with me in front of my mom."

Veronica giggled, "Oh, darling, you are such a kidder."

"What are you doing here?"

Veronica was taken aback, "Checking up on my friendly neighborhood lawbreaker. Mother did say sleeping beauty didn't feel right this morning. I'm a walking drugstore," Veronica dug into her purse.

"No," Betty stopped her, "I was lying...I was just up late."

"Up late? Doing what?" Veronica was so intrigued that Betty was afraid she might jump at her.

"Investigating. I..."

"Ooo. Did you go confront the Serpents?"

Betty's eyes told her everything, "I...how did you know that?"

"Oh, Betty, you can't get anything past me," she got closer to Betty, her eyes could swallow her whole.

Betty gulped, "It was a dead end. They're not very cooperative."

Veronica examined her, half expecting bruises or gashes from knives, she caressed her chin, "Oh, Betty did you rumble with those mean old serpents?"

"It's really not what you think."

"What I think is that Betty Cooper has a thing about danger and I've got to tell you it's very contagious."

Betty was expecting another kiss, she wasn't sure just how friendly Veronica was going to get with the way she swayed her body in front of her.

"I...I should really..."

Veronica placed a finger to Betty's lips, squishing them comically upright, shutting her up, "Don't fret, lover-girl, your secrets are safe with me. As for that kiss, I don't just give them out any old time. If you want another one you'll have to take me to Pop Tate's first. Now go get ready, we're going to school."

She removed her finger and sucked on it, Betty just stood there forgetting how her legs worked. Veronica put on her sunglasses and headed to her red Mercedes, "Hurry along now, bad girl!"

Betty sighed and went back inside the house. She wasn't sure about a lot of things, one of the biggest being Veronica Lodge.

The car ride with Veronica didn't come to much, she showed off a little, mainly talking about the new car but things shifted to asking her blonde passenger if she ever fought anyone or any stories relating to Betty's past and turn to Riverdale's underworld, Betty would just humor her, she still thought she tried to rob her.

"I'm sorry about my mom, she's..."

"That's fine, sweetheart, we all have parents. Some more wicked than others," she grinned.

Once they reached the student parking lot at school, Betty just wanted to jump out and go about her day but stopped to at least thank the girl for helping her out, "Listen, thanks for helping me yesterday. I'm not really sure what all of that was about but..."

"You and I both know what it was about. But I couldn't just stand back and watch you get taken away in handcuffs. Prison is no place for a girl like you," Veronica flaunted her eyelashes.

"I meant about your tongue being halfway down my throat but..."

Veronica giggled, "I'll see you around, sweet cheeks. Now get to Chemistry class."

Betty stepped out of the car, she pondered, remembering her schedule that day, "Wait. How did you know?..."

Veronica took off, Betty watched her go back onto the main road, suspicious about what she was up to. Maybe she had a double life too.

Betty knew some Serpents would be hanging around the Drive-in, Sheldon used to work there, helped run the projector, maybe that's how he got recruited. She parked her mother's car like a regular customer, she wasn't even sure what was playing, it was Friday night so it didn't really matter, most of the teenagers would be too distracted by each other to pay attention.

Betty went to the building holding concessions, she scoped around, doing her best to be nonchalant, it was busy but almost no one paid her any attention. She got her small bucket of popcorn and root beer and went back to her car, but not before making a beeline around. No Serpents? Impossible. But then again after Sheldon's demise they probably did want to lie low. Still, even on a slow night you could spot maybe 10 of them by the fence smoking at least.

She found two people she didn't recognize getting hot and heavy on top of someone's car...hers.

"Um, excuse me?"

A jock with thick sideburns had a top heavy girl against the driver's side door, neither noticed her or really cared, a group walking past whistled and catcalled; typical. She swore she heard someone call to her, something about where her date was. The jock lifted up the girl's skirt, things were getting way too extreme for Betty's liking. She should get angry, yell at them, she almost wanted to toss her soda but that was too expensive to waste on them. She actually nudged the big guy but that didn't do anything.

"What's a girl got to do to get noticed around here?"

Betty felt her shirt being tugged on, the jock had mistaken her top for his date's, she tried warning him about what he was doing but then...

RRRRRIIIIIIPPPPP

Betty gasped, the front of her shirt was ripped open like a birthday present, she was left with only her purple laced bra, she was so embarrassed, she tried covering herself but something sharp came up behind her and tore the back of the shirt up. Betty held onto the remains of her top and spun around, the creep that needed a good kick was about seven feet tall wearing a dark mask, he held up a large knife close to her face, what he used on her shirt. Betty yelped, she tried running but found she was stuck in place, the maniac had a hold of her belt.

"You've got to be kidding me!"

Betty unfastened the belt and slipped away but he caught up to her and pushed her to the muddy ground; all of this commotion and no one came to help her, not even the two delinquents messing around on the car. He grabbed her pant leg, Betty knew she had no choice, she crawled out of her now dirty jeans and ran for it.

Veronica sat in a booth with Cheryl Blossom, other than just drinking milk shakes they dished on gossip.

"I know who killed Sheldon."

Unfazed, Veronica took a break from her strawberry shake.

"No you don't."

"I do. But I'm not telling you," Cheryl said bluntly.

"Going to hold that information for a fee are we?" Veronica lifted an eyebrow.

Cheryl checked her lipstick in her tiny makeup mirror, "Come on, V, you know me."

"I know when you're full of it, Cheryl."

Cheryl put away her mirror, "What's this I hear about you macking on Preppy Cooper?"

Veronica smiled, "Are there rumors?"

"You caused enough of a stir to get people talking. If you're on some bisexual kick I don't think that goody two shoes is the one to get attention with."

"Who's saying I'm only doing it for the attention?" Veronica stole a drink of Cheryl's chocolate shake, "Besides, Betty Cooper is the new bad girl of Riverdale. She's an adrenaline junkie looking for her next thrill."

Cheryl held in a chuckle, "Betty Cooper is as dull as the dishwater they have in back."

"Oh, please Cheryl, tell me all about your exciting life. Tell me again how your mother looks like the lady with the watermelon sized flesh balloons from Mad Men."

Cheryl frowned, it was difficult sometimes with this girl.

"I saw her this morning. She's so forward. She wants me to be her girl. Practically told me."

Cheryl was taken aback, "You're a real piece of work, Lodge."

Both jumped when something hit the window, both were dazzled to see two perfectly round and plump cheeks hit the glass pane.

Veronica saw the face the glorious rear belonged to with her blonde hair all this way and that. No one could see her pursuer, only Betty pressing her back against the window, forgetting just how exposed she was. Betty pushed herself off the window and took off into the night in only her purple underwear.

Veronica looked back at Cheryl, she was on the verge of of passing out.

"Care to take all that back, dear?"

Veronica tossed some money onto the table and headed outside to look for Betty.
