Kaiden sighed as he placed his phone into the front pocket of his jacket. He then pulled his red hair into a messy bun. His luggage rolled behind him as the line started moving. Kaiden was next in passport control, and then he handed them his passport. It took a minute or so before they returned it to him. Then, he walked through the two automatic doors.

Kaiden was greeted by the area where the luggage rolled out of the airplane. Sighing once more, Kaiden looked down at his own bag and then picked it up, throwing it over his shoulder. As he did so, he glanced back at his phone and noticed that it was almost one in the morning.

Kaiden walked over to the baggage claim and waited for his to show up when he saw it. He grabbed it off the railing and made his way to gate 12 with the bag rolling behind him and one over his shoulder. "Kai!" He looked up to the voice calling his name and when he did, he broke out into a smile, seeing Aphmau squeezed in between a group of people. She waved enthusiastically with a wide grin.

Kaiden smiled and then walked out while she followed his lead. When they got to each other, she pulled him into a hug, and he hugged her back. "Oh, I missed you so much," she said, looking at the scepter sticking out of his backpack. "Come on, your mom is waiting for us." With a smile, they locked arms and made their way to the doors of the airport.

Time skip to the next morning

Kaiden didn't even realize he went to sleep last night until he heard someone knocking on his bedroom door the next morning. Kaiden's mother, Sonnet, was knocking softly on his bedroom door to see if he would wake up. "Kaiden, Kaiden!" Sonnet said softly as she began to open his bedroom door. Kaiden lifted his head with a groan. "Wake up, Sunflower!" Sonnet said as she pushed open his bedroom door.

"Mamá, como, cinco minutos más, luego prometo que me levantaré*." Kaiden said, not realizing he was speaking in spanish. Sonnet smiled while saying,"You always say that, and it turns into 20 minutes, if not the whole day. Now get your butt out of bed!". Kaiden just turned back around on his bed and put the cover over his head. "Solo necesito minutos para descansar mis ojos*." Kaiden said.

With a sigh, Sonnet turned off the lights and turned toward the door. "Fine," she said. "You can sleep in. It's a shame; you're going to be late for your first day of high school. And yesterday, Aphmau was so excited to go with you." Sonnet said as she made a tsk sound before walking out of the room with a final 'oh well.'"

This made Kaiden jump out of bed and looked at his doorway. "Dammit!" Kaiden said getting out of bed and walking over to his closet. "Aph is the only person I know who would be excited for school." He said to himself as he started getting dressed. Kaiden then put on his magic neutralizer choker so his powers don't go all haywire. Just as he put on his earring, he received a phone call.

Kaiden looked at the caller ID to see it was Sylvanna. "Hello, Aunt," he said, putting the phone on speakerphone so he could do his hair. "It's Aphmau...she's crying in the closet again. Sometimes I wish she had claustrophobia because of these little hiding spells she has." Sylvanna said from the other end of the phone. "Give her the phone and I'll see what's wrong." Kaiden said as he heard movement on the other side of the phone.

"Hello," the broken sound from the other side of the phone broke Kaiden's heart. "Aww, Aph! What's wrong?" Kaiden asked as he put his hairbrush down and looked at the phone. "Kai, I'm scared…I-I don't want to go to high school anymore." He heard from the other side. With a surprised look on his face, Kaiden looked at the phone.

"You mean to tell me... I got out of bed for nothing this morning," Kaiden said as he heard a laugh on the other line. "Irene, Aph. You've been so excited for this since you guys moved back here. What changed?" Kaiden asked as he started doing his hair. "I know, but Kai, I've been homeschooled for what seems like forever." Aphmau replied.

"Calm down Aph. It has only been a year, child." Kaiden said as he started looking for his shoes. "Still, even before then, at my old middle school, I didn't really talk to anyone. I haven't seen another kid my age in person in a year. Well, other than you." Aphmau said as Kaiden started putting his shoes on. "Aph! You will have me there with you." Kaiden said as he started packing his backpack with things he would need.

"I guess you're right, Kai," Aphmau said as she handed the phone back to her mother. "Thank you, Kai. I'll be picking both of you up from school today. I have to go now." Once Sylvanna hung up the phone, Sonnet opened the door to see that her son was ready to go. "Come on, let's go pick up Aph before I'll be stuck going to school by myself." Kaiden said as he walked out of his room.

They made it to Aphmau's house just to see her running out of the house and to the car. The school wasn't that far away, so it didn't take long to get there. "Have a nice day, and Kai, don't punch people," Sonnet said before driving off.

"Hmm, this is it. I can do this. But first, let me take a selfie. Come on, Kai, let's take one together." Aphmau said, pulling Kaiden into the selfie as well.

"Ha! Perfect." Aphmau said as someone bumped into them, making Kaiden turn and glare at the guy. "Watch it." Kaiden said as the guy walked past them with a smirk on his face. "Ugh." As Kaiden was still glaring at the guy's back, Aphmau was posting the picture to her Instagram. "Okay, well, I guess I better get to class. There's so many people here. Uh-huh. All right." Kaiden watched as Aphmau tried and failed to open the school door.

"What? How come the doors are locked? Did they forget to open them on the first day?" Aphmau asked as she started to panic. "Hehe, I'm assuming you guys are freshmen?" The soft voice from behind them said, making them turn around to see a beautiful girl looking at them with a smile. "Yea we are, but I know the school isn't open yet," Kaiden said as he looked at the girl.

"So you were just going to let me pull on a locked door?" Aphmau asked as she looked at her best friend with a pout on her face. "Yes," Kaiden said as they both looked at Teony. "Yea, they usually lock the door. Then they'll let everyone flood in and bam! Chaos everywhere." Teony said as she started looking around for someone. "You're really nervous. You're shaking a lot." Teony said as she looked back at Aphmau as Kaiden just yawned.

"You're the first person she has seen other than me in a year," Kaiden said as he looked at her. "Really? Why?" Teony asked. "Homeschooling," Aphmau said as she began playing with his hair. "That sounds awesome! Getting to stay home every day. The best school ever!" Teony said as she smiled at them both.

"Haha, more like lonely. I had no one to talk to other than Kai," Aphmau said as she looked up at Teony. "Uhuh, that poor smile is cute. Cheer up, freshman. You'll get the hang of things in no time...or just ask your friend; he seems to know what he's doing." Teony said before a teacher came over to them. "Teony, Miss Peacock is looking for you." The teacher said before pulling the girl away from them.

"Just keep your head high and you'll be fine," Teony said as she walked away. Both Kaiden and Aphmau started talking to each other until Aphmau started walking backwards. "Aph...Aph. Why do I even try?" Kaiden said as Aphmau bumped into Garroth. "Ah." Aphmau said falling back, getting caught by Garroth.

"Eh... Er, Hey, are you okay?" Garroth asked as he looked at Aphmau while Kaiden just stood there watching them. "I'm so sorry. I'm fine. I just— I didn't mean to run into you— huh?" Aphmua said before cutting herself off while looking at Garroth's hands. "You should really watch where you're stepping next time. It really could have been a nasty spill for you." Garroth said as he looked up from Aphmau to see Kaiden.

"Princess! How are you doing? I didn't know you were coming to this school." Garroth said as he walked over to him and gave him a hug. "Is she alright?" Garroth asked as he pulled him back into the hug. "Three, two, one, and..." Kaiden said as he pointed at Aphmau. "Uh, uh, it's my first day," Aphmau said suddenly. "There she is... oh, question, is my Dark Knight going to be attending this school? Because if not, I'm transferring." Kaiden said as he looked over at Garroth.

"Yes, Princess. Zane goes here," Garroth said before smiling and turning to Aphmau. "Oh, pardon me. No wonder you're acting all weird." Garroth said as Aphmau started nervously looking around. "Yes, that's totally the reason why I'm acting weird. Heh heh. Thanks for catching my fall." She said as she started looking at her shoes. "No problem. You should really watch where you're going though." Garroth said before turning away from them.

"I-I will," Aphmau said as Garroth started to walk away. "See you later, cutie. See you to Princess." That was the last thing Garroth said before going around the corner. "Wow, he was so dreamy. You're cool. Thanks for helping me. Ugh, I'm such an idiot." Aphmau said out loud, making Kaiden laugh just as a girl walked up to them. "Wow. Didn't you look pathetic? Drooling all over him?" Ivy said as Kaiden started glaring at her.

"Are you talking to her, because if so, you look so punchable." Kaiden said, making Ivy take a step back. "All I'm saying is that she shouldn't play the innocent freshman act." Ivy said as Kaiden just glared at her, sending shivers down Ivy's spine. "What? I didn't." Aphmau said and just before Ivy could say anything, Kaiden punched her in her face. "I just need a reason... Come on, give me a reason." Kaiden said, not noticing the crowd forming around them.

Ivy just sat on the ground holding her face. As soon as she saw Garroth, she started carrying out the victim role. "He punched me for no reason!" Ivy fake-cried, trying to get someone to feel sorry for her. Once she finished, she ran away. Kaiden watched as Ivy got up and left. "Boo! The fuck are you all looking at?" Kaiden said, now noticing the crowd surrounding him.

Everyone started backing up and going to their own things. "Thanks, Kai," Aphmau said as she started looking at Kaiden's hand. "No, it wasn't necessary for me to hit her," Kaiden replied as everyone started moving into the school. "Come on, Aph." Kaiden said, pulling her into the school.

While Aphmau was talking with a teacher, Kaiden was getting everything they would need to start the day off. "Thank you, and I'll see you around," Kaiden said to one of the teachers as he walked off to meet up with Aphmau. "Kitty! I found your cute friend," Laurence said as he walked up to Kaiden. "Maybe a kiss for a thanks?" Laurence said as he looked at Kaiden with a smirk. "How about no," Kaiden replied as he handed Aphmau her folder.

"Aww, come on, just a little kiss," Laurence said as he moved closer to Kaiden. Rolling his eyes, Kaiden leaned over and kissed him on the cheek. Kaiden then grabbed Aphmau's hand pulling her off towards their homeroom class. Leaving Laurence a blushing mess standing in the middle of the hallway. Kaiden walked to their class, pulling Aphmau behind him.

"This is our class," Kaiden said, letting her go and walking into the classroom. "Kai! Wait!" Aphmau said, going in after him. "The cliché 'I'm late because I'm new' excuse, right?" He continued, smiling at him. "You're lucky today's the first day and that you're a freshman. The school sent out the orientation package during the summer and—" Kaiden cut him off by putting his hand up.

"Sir... I just got back home from boarding school, and she was homeschooled; do you think we were here for the summer?" Kaiden asked, making the teacher look at him. "My apologies. I won't give you flak for that. What's your name?" he started, looking at the paper. "Aphmau and his name is Kaiden," Aphmau said as the teacher looked up at them. Both of them started walking to their seats when Kaiden spotted someone.

Kaiden then ran over to the last seat in the back next to the boy with a mask on." Hai! Hai! My Dark Knight." Kaiden said, making the boy look over at him." Hi, Princess." Zane said as he looked back down at his paper. "All right, class. You can all mingle, and then we'll head on over to the club social." The teacher said, as Kaiden just looked at him. Kaiden then looked at Zane to see that he was reading something.

"Hi, my name is Aphmau. I'm new, just like you. It's nice to meet you. Heh. What's your name?," Aphmau asked as Kaiden looked over at the person she was talking to. " And my name is Kaiden," Kaiden said as both Aphmau and Travis looked over at him. "Um, it's Travis," Travis said as he smiled at them. They all sat there talking for a while before someone tapped on Kaiden's shoulder.

He turned to see Zane looking at him. "Yes," Kaiden said as he looked at Zane with a smile. Once they started up a conversation, the teacher walked back into the room. "Alright class, get ready for us to go to the gym," the teacher said as Aphmau put her hand on Kaiden's arm. "We're all friends, right Kai?" Aphmau asked, giving Kaiden the puppy dog eyes. "Yeah, sure we can all be friends," Kaiden said as everyone started getting out of their seats.

Everyone was in a line, as Travis, Aphmau, and Kaiden were at the back of the line. "Ok!" both Travis and Aphmau said at the same time. "What do friends do again?" Travis asked, looking over at Aphmau. "I don't really know... me and Kaiden have known each other for so long, I forgot how we started off," Aphmau said, making Kaiden laugh.

I just don't want to be alone on the first day here," Travis said with a smile. "So we're essentially not alone buddies, right?" Kaiden asked, looking at him. "Not Alone Buddies!" they both exclaimed excitedly. "Hehe! Awesome!" Aphmau added as the teacher started telling everyone it was time to go.

"Are we gonna stick together?" Aphmau asked, grabbing Kaiden's arm and pulling him with her. "Yeah," Travis replied, walking beside Aphmau as she was pulling Kaiden behind her. Kaiden then waved bye to Zane. Who waved back at him smiling under his mask. "Let's go, then!" Aphmau said, the last thing she said.
