Hello, everyone. Welcome back to my story, a little update on the beta reader thing. I've decided that when I've finished my next chapters, I'll upload them and when the Beta reader finishes going over them I'll just update the chapter. It'll probably be easier on them since they're so busy. This way they don't have to worry about rushing to edit my stories, (Despite me telling them many times it's fine.)
Anyways, onto the reviews.
Child of Dreams chapter 16. Jul 12
Um, not sure if this is an auto-correct issue or not, but you misspelled Su Li as Sue-Lee...
Me: Thank you, I'll be sure to spell it better in the future.
JamiesStories chapter 13. Jul 27
Ember's definitely gonna be a Ravenclaw. I love this story so much it's very engaging and addicting to read.
Me: Aw I'm glad you like my story so much, thank you. You were correct that Ember became a Ravenclaw.
Now the part you've all been waiting for, onto the story!
After that meeting in the headmaster's office things went on as normal. Ember went to class, hung out with her friends, did homework, did her paperwork, and trained her powers. It kept her busy as she made sure to spend some time studying for school as well.
Ember had also taken up avoiding Ronald Weasley. He seemed insistent on spending time with her, always saying that they would be a good couple. He tried to corner her alone a few times as well, luckily Ember made it a point to scarcely go anywhere alone.
When she needed to go to the ROR she would have Bippy pop her to the hallway that led to the room.
She kept up this pace until Halloween, she was gloomy today as she always was at this time of year. Right after charms class, she overheard Ronald snarling at Hermione, making her run off in tears.
Ember felt bad for the girl so quickly followed to try and console her. It didn't work out the way she was wishing though. Hermione had snapped at her to leave her alone, she didn't need comfort from a stuck-up princess like Ember.
Ember didn't show it, but that hurt. She didn't mean to act stuck up, she was acting this way to shield herself from those who wanted to use her, like her ex-family, and Ronald.
She left the lavatory that Hermione had selected to cry in, something that confused her greatly. If Ember had been the one running off to cry, she would have run to her dorms and hid on her bed behind the curtains. Not a public lavatory that any girl could walk in, not to mention the sound of crying escaped the lavatory and into the hallway.
Shaking her head she decided not to think of it and just went on with her day. She attended the last of her classes and frowned the entire time at the feast that night. She really couldn't comprehend what was so great about this day, this was the day she lost her family.
They might not have died that night, but they might as well have. She remembered how things were before that awful Halloween. James was an amazing father for both her and Damien, he didn't have favorites. Sure he spent a bit more time with Damien but that didn't mean he loved Ember any less back then.
He was so protective of her too. Ember remembered one time she almost toddled down the stairs, she was at the top and he was at the bottom. James had summoned her to him as fast as he could and refused to put her down for the rest of the day.
She remembered Sirius, her Uncle Padfoot back then. He would turn into his Grim form and let her and Damien ride on his back while someone cast a charm to keep them from falling off.
Remus, or Uncle Moony back then, used to read to her and Damien all the time. Mostly Ember, even back then she loved books and loved being read to. He stopped reading to her not long after that night, Ember secretly missed those times.
Dumbledore used to be like her Grandfather before that night, he would sneak her and Damien candy before dinner often.
Lily used to be the best mother ever. She would drop everything if Ember or Damien needed something. Now that she thought of it, Lily still tried doing the same after that Halloween but stopped after James started being a bastard to Ember.
Ember's eyes narrowed down at her plate full of food, now that she thought back to that time she remembered that around that time Lily tried to be nice to her when it was just the two of them but James somehow always found out and yelled at Ember that she had done something to her.
Ember held back a growl, while this explained why Lily was never nice or motherly towards her, It didn't explain why she gave her that power-dampening potion. She needed to figure out why she would do that before she could decide how to feel about her biological mother.
Before she could think any further on her thoughts Professor Quirell stormed in yelling something about a troll being in the Dungeons. Ember couldn't believe it when the Headmaster told everyone to go back to their common rooms and quickly stood up and yelled into the hall.
"THE SLYTHERIN COMMON ROOMS ARE IN THE DUNGEONS THOUGH!" She could see everyone stop and share a look, it was clear no one had thought of that. She could also see Dumbledore quickly hiding a look of annoyance. Why he was annoyed she didn't know, it was almost like we wanted the Slytherins to run into the troll and get hurt. That couldn't be it though, Dumbledore had to know he would get into trouble if anyone got hurt by the troll.
He spoke up to try and fix this before anyone could think he wanted the Slytherins to meet the Troll. "Quiet right Ms Potter-" "How many times do I have to tell you it's Ravenclaw!" Ember glared at him, why he kept insisting on calling her that she didn't know but it was annoying. He might be trying to remind her that she started out as a Potter or it could honestly be insanity affecting him.
He held his hands up in a placating gesture, "Apologies, Ms Ravenclaw is correct. In my haste I had not realized what she pointed out. Everyone please stay here while us Professors go find and take care of the troll."
Just then Ember remembered something else. She looked around for a Professor and sprinted over to Professor Flitwick when she spotted him. Hopefully, the Professor would be able to get to Granger before the troll found her.
"Sir, Sir someone's not here."
The tiny Professor's head snapped over, eyes widening with worry. "Who's not here Ms Ravenclaw?"
"Hermione Granger sir, she's been in the lavatory crying all day thanks to something Ronald Weasley and Damien Potter said to her after Charms class. I tried talking to her earlier, tried to comfort her but it didn't really work." Ember spoke quickly, there was no time to waste. If the troll left the Dungeons then Hermione would be in danger.
The tiny Professor nodded before gathering two other professors and leaving quickly to the girl's lavatory near his classroom.
It was lucky for Hermione that Ember had realized she needed to tell a Professor, for she was about to be turned into a human paste when the professors barged in and quickly took care of the troll.
Ember finished eating her dinner before the Professors came back, announcing that the troll had been taken care of and that it was now safe to go back to their common rooms.
She never noticed several Slytherins sending her thoughtful or thankful looks. She did, however, notice that several Gryffindors were sending her glares and disgusted looks for keeping the Slytherins from being hurt. Thankfully, not all of the Gryffindors were acting like that.
Ember vowed to stay away from the glaring ones the best she could.
~~~Time Lap~~~
The next few months after that Halloween was peaceful. At least as peaceful as things could get at Hogwarts. She still needed to avoid being alone where Ronald could corner her. She also took to avoiding Damien as well.
He kept trying to corner her, Ember was pretty sure that he was going to do one of four things if he managed to do so. He would either yell at her and demand she give him her inheritance, totally ignoring the fact that the Ravenclaw inheritance passes from mother to daughter. Thereby making it so he wouldn't even have a chance of getting his hands on it.
Unless he transformed himself into a girl for the rest of his life, Ember doubted he would do that. Even if he did, she was still the one that was chosen to be Lady Ravenclaw.
The second thing he might try would be him trying to guilt her into coming back to the family. He would act like he missed her and wanted to be his twin again, that James and Lily had been worried sick when she went missing. While Ember could believe that Lily might have been worried she doubted that James had been.
The third thing would be trying to convince her to date and then marry Ronald. He would try and hype his best friend up and when that wouldn't work try to threaten her into marrying the red-headed pig.
The fourth would be him trying to curse and beat her up. Trying to beat her into submission and make her do whatever he wanted in fear of him hurting her again. Not like that would work.
Ember has killed a man before, she was not going to be scared of the bastard calling himself her twin. He wasn't scary or threatening at all. That didn't mean she was going to let her guard down around him though. It wouldn't do to underestimate the boy and let him get a few lucky shots on her.
She also managed to work on a few more of her gem powers other than bubbling objects. She also learned how to form bubbles around her hands and use them to help increase her punching power. Sure, she was already strong but when she added the bubbles to her hands she packed an even stronger punch than normal.
The bubbles worked kind of like those muggle brass knuckles she's heard of, only she could will them to vanish and get rid of the evidence that they ever existed.
She also managed to learn how to make the gravity of things, including herself, either heavier or lighter. She loves making herself lighter to float around in the ROR. Ember's started doing some paperwork while floating.
Floating makes her feel light like nothing could ever hurt her.
Ember was now working on making the bubble shield that her test before school said she was able to make. She didn't want to start working on the other things she could do until she was back home with Jasper and Pearl so they could get her help in case anything went wrong.
Especially with the shapeshifting, she had a feeling that it was something she wanted to do with someone else, preferably a gem, around to help in case she messed up.
She spent a lot of time with Daphne and Tracy making sure the two girls understood how much she loved their friendship. She was a bit closer to Daphne than Tracy but that didn't mean she didn't care for Tracy just as much as her.
A week before Christmas break she was wandering around the castle and accidentally stumbled on a room holding a huge three-headed dog. Now, Ember knew that this was a very dangerous creature, so she decided to report it to the DMLE during the break.
She had noticed that it was standing on a trapdoor so it was probably guarding something. This didn't mean she was interested in what it was guarding though, it was none of her business. She had no interest in finding out why the dog was there, nor did she want to know what it was guarding.
She did warn her friends about the dog so the two girls knew to stay away from the door. She remembered the Headmaster saying something at the start of the year about people not going to the third-floor corridor if they didn't wish to die a painful death. This would also be something she would report to the DMLE.
She couldn't believe that the Headmaster would be willing to risk the lives of the students under him like this. Sure, he was a manipulative bastard, and Halloween showed he disliked Slytherins enough to send them off to possibly face a troll. . . Okay, perhaps she could believe that he would be willing to risk his students' lives like this.
That didn't mean she would be willing to risk the lives of her fellow students though.
