Le vide, deuxième partie

It should've been obvious.

She hadn't noticed the changes herself, but he had. He always was the observant one. The one more invested in her well being and their relationship.

And I call myself a genius, some kind of genius I am.

The woman hunched over her drink with a sigh.

Can't really blame him for moving on...

"Hey bartender! Hit me with a double this time,"

Afterall, it wouldn't have been fair to either of us.

"Cheers..."

I guess in the end it's all for the best.

She slammed the shot, a well manicured hand signaling for the bartender.

So why does it hurt so much?

"Another!"

You didn't love him. Not really.

As soon as the drink was placed before her, it was gone.

Not like he deserved. Not like how he loved you…

"Another!"

What was it he said? "I know you don't love me and honestly that's okay. In the end I just want you to be happy, even if it's not with me. It's over Saya..."

"God, what a fucking sappy thing to say to someone." She sniffled as her eyes teared up.

He was right though, wasn't he? Thinking back on it, I really strung him along for years didn't I?

"Bitches like me aren't supposed to get happy endings..." She muttered into her beverage.

I never even made a move. I just settled, too fucking scared to go after who I really wanted.

The small shapely woman snorted in amusement.

You, the great, gifted and glorious, were too much of a pussy to face rejection.

...

"Last call, we close in ten!"

Fuck, where did the time go?

The woman groaned in annoyance, before getting up and paying her tab.

Gonna have to spend another night alone in our, I mean my apartment.

She deftly pulled her phone out and quickly scrolled through her contacts.

Should I even try? He never picks up, or texts back or anything. I should just get a driver to take me straight home.

She crossed her arms over her chest, as a small shiver ran through her. Impatiently tapping a heeled toe as she waited for the retainer to show up.

God it's cold out here, where is that damn car?

Soon enough the woman was seated in the back of a nondescript sedan. Her frustration, rising like the tide every second due to the time spent in her own alcohol-addled mind, thinking about her lack of success in her personal life up to now.

Fuck this shit. You're getting answers! You're getting some long overdue closure, damnit! You're owed that much.

Before she could lose her nerve, she rattled off the address she had managed to pull up. She informed the driver of the change in course, a small frown taking over her features. "You can drop me off there. Thank you."

Before this night is over you need to get answers. One way or the other you move on tonight.

In what seemed like no time at all the car pulled up to the new destination. A small two story townhouse that she'd only visited once before, an expensive motorcycle parked in the drive port.

Ok, he should be here. Keep it together. Don't lose your backbone now!

"Ms. Takagi? Are you sure this is the place? It doesn't look like anyone is home right now. Are you sure you don't want me to take you back to your home? Or maybe your parents? It's a little late and it's supposed to be cold tonight..." The driver offered as he scoped out the place.

Fair point.

"Just wait here until you see me go in. I'm pretty sure they're here. If they aren't, you can take me back to the estate. I've been meaning to visit anyway. Okay? Okay." She replied shortly before she opened the door and left the vehicle.

God why did I wear these stupid heels? My feet are killing me…

...

Once she made it to the front door, the pinkette started fumbling with the straps for her high heels no longer willing to deal with the damned things. Instead opting to carelessly leave them by the door as she pounded on the door to the little home. The liquor from earlier giving the small woman a dangerous dose of reckless courage.

Oh Komuro, your ass better open up! I know your home!

In the end it took a few minutes of nonstop knocking and shouting but Saya was rewarded for her persistence with the sight of a disheveled Takashi Komuro through the crack in the door.

Damn baka! Doesn't he know it's rude to leave a guest waiting! Gah!

"Hey Takagi-san, long time no see."

This idiot! It's fucking freezing out here!

"And whose fault is that hmm? Whatever Komuro-kun, just move so I can get inside. It's rude to leave a guest out in the cold, baka!" Saya pushed the stunned and apprehensive man aside looking around his abode with a sharp frown.

It's practically the same as last time! What the fuck? It's been way too long! And that smell, ew…

"God, why is it so dark in here? Have you been drinking? What in the hell is that smell? You're not still mourning over Rei are you? It's been over a year..." She trailed off, having noticed his annoyed look.

The sheer fucking audacity! I show some concern and this is the thanks I get? Oh Takashi you damn baka!

...

"Now you listen here you baka! You got friends and family worried about you. You have me, worried about you! You never answer anyone's calls, or texts, or emails, or anything! We understand that you're hurting but,"

Why can't you see we care? I – I care…

"But life goes on! We're here for you, we'll always be here for you, we've always had your back."

Oh great, now I'm crying,

She felt the air shift and darted back, away from Takashi's attempts to comfort and quiet her. "No! You need to hear this Takashi, you baka! And I'm not leaving until I say my piece! Got it!"

He looks just like he did in school, he looks like he could care less.

"Ok. I'm sorry. Go ahead Saya."

You're going to hear what I have to say!

...

"Rei was always wishy washy, and you know that. Why you continued to play her games nobody knows. You and Saeko were amazing for each other but you sabotaged that. So I wanna know why. What's so special about Rei that you can't be happy with someone else. Someone like me."

Ha! That look on his face!

"Are you into kinky shit so you settle for a lying whore? Are you that much of a cuck Takashi? You always put yourself and your happiness last. I just want to know why? Is it something about her, or something about you? Is she that special or are you that weak?"

Look at him! Keep going…

"Why can she move on and you can't. Is it impossible or are you just that much of a bitch boy?"

Hmmmm good one.

"Saya, I'm warning you."

I'm sooo scared, pffft not!

"Answer me Komuro. I deserve that much! If you can't face the truth for yourself, do it for someone else."

Stupid Takashi, always Rei. Rei this. Rei that. Bah! What about me!

"Are you deaf, stupid, or dumb! Tell me! Tell me! Tell me why! P-Please! Please just tell me..."

Please…

...

Author's Note:

I've always wanted to revisit this snapshot, something about a burnout Takashi and a disgruntled Saya seem to make too much sense when put together. Sorry it's not the aftermath of the major revelation but I can't say that I'm too disapointed with the end result on this one. I really wanted to get Saya's pov out there and I think this feels pretty on point especially considering all the variables I put into begin with. A hint of bittersweet relationships, a touch of alcohol, and years of repressed feelings. It was too much to pass up. I hope I conveyed her sense of intoxication without being too out there. No obvious "hics" or anything like that, but rather a slower, less articulate train of thought the more we progress. Not to mention the mood swings.

I've got more in the works but don't hold your breath. Thanks for reading Death, Love, & Zombies and as always, remember to fav, follow, review!
