Unto the Wished Haven of My Bliss

Happily I have arrived at the last,
Unto the wished haven of my bliss.

The Taming of the Shrew, Act V, Scene I

That night, after leaving Grimmauld Place, Harry was saddened when Ginny asked him reluctantly to take her to her flat. Gaby was going home to her family in Italy for the off season, and Ginny had promised to help her pack. She, of course, could help her friend pack and then go back with Harry to his flat, but sleeping over two consecutive nights seemed too fast no matter how right it felt. She was afraid to impose, thinking it might scare Harry.

Gaby and Ginny's flat was in a Wizarding neighbourhood and was heavily warded. The couple Apparated by the front door. "Would you like to come in?" Ginny asked.

"Sure," Harry answered, looking at his wristwatch. "It's not too late."

They went in using Ginny's magical key to find Gaby bustling about and swearing in Italian. There were clothes and shoes strewn all over the floor. "Thank Merlin you're here, Ginny!" Gaby said hardly acknowledging Harry's presence, "I'm so disorganized. I don't know what to take, what to leave, and what to throw away!"

Ginny had not been a willing student, but one thing Molly Weasley had taught her daughter was all sorts of useful household charms and spells. She quickly summoned, sorted, folded and packed everything Gaby wanted to take on her trip home. Harry was just an interested listener as the two young women talked and laughed about their adventures during the season over some butterbeers. At several points of the conversation, Gaby whispered into Ginny's ear, making her blush and giggle before she replied in a similar fashion. Harry felt maybe it was better if he left, so they could talk freely.

"Well, I'll leave the two of you so you can reminisce together. It's getting late. What time are you leaving, Gaby?" Harry asked.

"I have to be at the International Portkey Office in the Ministry at ten in the morning."

"Is it okay if I come in the morning to see you off?"

"Yes, of course, Harry. That would be lovely. I'm really sorry about tonight... I'm sure you had other plans," Gaby said wagging her eyebrows.

"You can make it up to him," Ginny said, smiling mischievously at Harry.

"How?" Gaby asked.

As Harry watched, Ginny leaned to whisper in her ear, covering her mouth. Whatever she said, it made Gaby's eyebrows shoot up almost to her hairline. "Yes, I can certainly make it up to him," she said with a chuckle.

Ginny accompanied Harry to the door, snogged him goodnight and sadly watched him leave.

Two weeks holiday and a redhead witch that loved him just as much as he loved her. How could things get any better for Harry? The person that could make all the darkness in his life fade away, had come back into his life. All the pain, the deaths, the killing, the years of running and hiding like a hunted animal, seemed like a distant memory. The first nine days of the holiday, leading to Ginny's birthday, were filled with the giddy happiness of being in love.

After leaving Gaby at the International Portkey Office, Ginny and Harry had gone to the Auror office, where Harry was happy to learn he wouldn't have to turn in his two-way mirror. Instead, Tonks had Ginny's mirror charmed so it would also be connected to the two-way mirror assigned to the new bodyguard. "It's the latest charm development," Tonks had told them. "Someday it could work like Muggle cellular phones; only better." They were introduced to the new minder, an Auror just a few months out of the Academy, named John Zeller. He seemed too starstruck at the meeting for Harry's taste, but Tonks assured them he was one of the top graduates. After that their holiday started in earnest.

Even though Ginny was as curious as her dad about Muggle things and did some of her shopping in Muggle stores, she still knew very little of Muggle London. Harry was happy to act as her guide to the city. Every day the young lovers went out to do some sightseeing, shopping, and dining. The first day they rode the London Eye, which Ginny enjoyed immensely. Afterwards they took a river cruise and had dinner in a fancy restaurant by the Thames. Another day they went to the British Museum to view the magnificent architecture of the brand-new Great Court and of the Reading Room. They also did some shopping on Oxford Street. Ginny was fascinated by Harry's use of credit cards and cash machines. "I'll have to tell my dad about that," she told him with a smirk. Harry explained to her that he always kept half of his cash assets in Muggle currency. It had been a necessity during his long years in hiding and he saw no reason to change the custom. In Piccadilly Circus, he showed Ginny one of the many dead drops with stashes of Muggle and Wizarding currency, illegal Portkeys, fake travel documents and spare wands, which he kept not only in Britain, but also in France, Spain, Germany and Switzerland. They were another remnant of his past that he still was unwilling to let go.

"Where did you learn to do all of that?" Ginny asked him.

"One of my martial arts teachers was an American Muggle named David Webb. He also taught me a lot about staying underground. He is the one who helped me set up the dead drops. I'll show all of them to you someday," Harry told her. "I have one in Lucerne, in Switzerland. I'd love to travel there with you and have some tea by the lake shore in Vitznau. The view there is just magnificent."

"I'd love that," Ginny replied, warming up to the idea of travelling with Harry.

During those nine days they also visited Hampton Court, the Tower of London, The Handel House Museum and most of the usual tourist traps. Their sightseeing, however, didn't mean they neglected their favourite activity. Ginny had an almost childlike curiosity about sex, which made everything they did seem like innocent play...

...On those nine days Harry discovered many things; one being that Ginny's amazing vanilla scent was not a one-day fluke, but a lifetime condition.

Another thing Harry discovered was that the gods were unfair. While other than his genitals he was only sensitive on his neck and inner thighs, there was practically no part of Ginny's body that wasn't erogenous under the right conditions and with the correct stimulation... That was how he discovered that Ginny was erogenous from head to foot, and Harry was determined to master the zones that gave her the most pleasure. He paid close attention and carefully noted her responses during that time.

Soft kisses on her neck were a sure-fire way to get her aroused. The back of the ear was particularly sensitive, and she enticed him by dabbing a subtle perfume behind her ears. The inside part of her upper arms was very sensitive, as were her inner thighs... Her back was sensitive to touch during and after sex. Caressing it with the fingertips was a sure way to make her get goosebumps...

Lovemaking with Ginny was more than toe curling pleasure. It was mystical. It gave him a sense of belonging he had never felt before, and also the feeling of having arrived at a much anticipated and wished for destination. They gave and received from each other much more than pleasure. It was the love that they felt for each other that made the experience magical and mystical; something much more beautiful and purer than sex, although sex had a place in it. The idea that oral sex, however enjoyable, could also be pure and beautiful, would have seemed ridiculous to Harry if it wasn't for the fact that Ginny made it so. With her, sex wasn't just a tawdry mechanical act where good technique trumped all. It was a ritual in which their two bodies became one soul. At the moment of release... at that moment when the absolute pleasure of receiving is mixed with the total joy of giving... it was the fact that it was Ginny on the other end what made it beautiful and pure. At those moments, he could feel the magic flowing between them. Unstoppable. Undeniable.

The next Friday afternoon, the sweet smell of sex with Ginny still hung faintly in the air as she rested her head on Harry's shoulder. Her hand was tracing the lines of the muscles in his chest and abdomen, while Harry twirled a tendril of her hair with his finger. Sex didn't make them sleepy, at least not right away, so usually they talked and got to know each other better after their exertions. Ginny told him stories about Hogwarts, Quidditch and her time in Dumbledore's Army. Harry told her about the people he had met and the places he had been to. He also worked on cementing the idea of a "dead drop Grand Tour" in Ginny's mind by telling her a little bit about the location of the drops.

"Harry."

"Hmmh."

"I'll sleep at the Burrow tonight," she said lost in thought.

"Why?"

"Tomorrow is my birthday and Mum always makes me a special breakfast on my birthday. It's a tradition." Ginny turned to look at him. "I want you to go. All the family is going to be there because it's Saturday. I haven't seen much of them lately."

Harry knew he was being greedy. She did have a family after all. Other than one unaccompanied visit to the Burrow from the Floo in her flat to talk to her mum and dad about the memory charm, and some floo-calls, she had not seen them at all. Ginny had practically moved-in with him the last nine days. They had slept in her flat a couple of times, and made trips for clothes and knickers, but they had spent most of their time after sightseeing in his flat. Harry knew they needed to discuss the subject of "moving in" at some point, but it still seemed too soon despite the fact that the idea of life without Ginny seemed preposterous. Harry knew that what they had was special, but it still needed some time.

"Of course, love. I'll be there. What time are we leaving tonight," Harry said forcing himself not to sound disappointed.

"After we take a shower. We could have dinner there today as well," Ginny said more animatedly.

"Let's go then," Harry said with a smile.

They walked down the path to the Burrow in the twilight hour. Harry was a little apprehensive because he wasn't sure about what kind of reception to expect. The fact they were intimate was known by her mother, which probably meant that her father knew as well. Ginny reassuringly took his hand as they walked in. Mr Weasley was sitting in the living room reading some reports and he immediately got up to hug his daughter. Ginny had been hard with them over the memory charm initially, but the happiness she felt being with Harry had softened her quickly. There was no point in dwelling in the past pain when the present happiness was so complete.

Mr Weasley shook Harry's hand and held it while he eyed him carefully for several seconds more than necessary. "Be good to her, Harry. I know you're an honourable man, but she is one of the most precious things I got. As long as you don't hurt her, I'll always support your relationship." He turned to look at Ginny, who was beaming at him. As soon as he let go of Harry's hand, she launched herself into her dad's arms.

"Thanks, Daddy," she said grinning at him.

Mrs Weasley initial reception was much colder, but polite. After Harry followed Ginny's advice and asked for a second helping during dinner, she started warming up to him. The conversation was easy and relaxed. The subject of their living arrangements was avoided by all, the focus being instead on their sightseeing expeditions. Mr Weasley listened fascinated to Ginny's description of their ride on the London Eye and her explanation of Muggle credit cards.

"Can I see one?" Mr Weasley had asked Harry shyly. Harry had to contain his laughter at Mr Weasley's expression when he carefully inspected the credit card.

After dutifully asking for a second helping of dessert and being formally invited to the morning breakfast by Mrs Weasley, Harry left the Burrow after a long goodnight kiss from Ginny.

It wasn't until Ginny went into her old bedroom to sleep that it hit her. The horrible, empty feeling of separation. The night she had slept in her flat without Harry had not been so bad. Gaby and she had talked until late, and she had been knackered from a busy day. At the time she hadn't become accustomed to sleeping with him yet. But now, after eight consecutive nights of feeling the reassuring presence of his warm body next to her, she felt acutely alone in her bed. No matter how she arranged the pillows, they didn't feel as comfortable as resting her head on his chest with her arm across his abdomen. The slow rise and fall of his chest as he breathed, and the sound of his beating heart helped her fall asleep. Even the comfortable tee-shirt she had always worn to bed, felt foreign and cumbersome after sleeping starkers and thoroughly shagged for eight nights.

She chuckled. They probably were doing it too much and they both needed a break... a short break, but a break, nonetheless. She didn't miss the sex. She missed Harry... being with him. Sex was just a by-product of the love they felt for each other. It was incidental. Ginny leaned over and grabbed the two-way mirror and her wand from the night table. "Harry Potter," she said with a tap of the wand, and moments later Harry's face appeared in the mirror.

Ginny smiled and tried to put on a brave face. "Hi, love."

"I miss you," Harry said directly and without preamble.

She could tell he wasn't looking for sympathy or looking to ingratiate himself with her. He was just stating a fact. "I miss you too," she said with sadness. "You make a good pillow. It's hard to sleep without my comfy pillow," she added with a pout, trying to lighten the mood.

Harry smiled, "I'm glad you find me useful."

"What is it you miss about me?" she asked.

"The flowery smell of your hair on my chest," he answered immediately, "the way you sigh when you put your arm around me before you sleep; the way you move your head on my chest until you find my heartbeat..." Ginny was starting to feel guilty about her pillow comment, "the way your warm drool pools below my sternum..." he continued as a smile formed on his face.

"I do NOT drool!" Ginny interrupted feigning indignation.

"But if you did, I would miss it too," Harry finished with a sad smile.

Ginny's chest tightened with emotion. "I miss the way you kiss the top of my head when you think I'm sleeping; I miss the way you tighten your grip to hold me closer to you; I miss the way you rub your thumb against my cheek, but what I miss most, is just the feel of your warm skin against mine."

They just watched each other in silence for a moment. The expression of longing on their faces said more than words could say, but less than what lips kissing could.

Ginny swallowed thickly. "I just wanted to say goodnight, Harry."

"Goodnight, love. See you in the morning," he said before tapping the mirror with his wand.

"The Weasley girl Apparated at eight in the evening with Potter," Mulciber said to the people in attendance. They were the family members of captured Death Eaters serving life sentences in Azkaban. "It's the first time in over a week she has showed up there."

"The apparition point at the Burrow is still the best place to grab her," Rockwood added looking directly at Narcissa Malfoy, "It's isolated and we'll have the element of surprise. The apparition point in her flat is exposed and there is people coming in and out of the building all the time. The wards at both locations are too strong to breech, so that limits our options for the grab. We'll set up a blind by the apparition point in the Burrow and man it with four wizards. Two will grab the girl and two will fight Potter. As soon as the grab is made, we'll Portkey to the safe house."

"One more thing, Mrs Malfoy," Mulciber interjected with a sly smile. "The fact that she seems to always be with Potter will make things a lot more dangerous than we anticipated. You will have to double the fee for us to carry out this operation."

"How dare you!" Draco screamed rising to his feet. "Have you forgotten all the favours you owe the Malfoy family," he sneered.

Mulciber sneered back at him. "The Malfoy family is not what it used to be. Maybe you want to take on Potter yourself, pretty boy."

"That's enough!" Mrs Malfoy said standing up regally. She had an air of command that made Mulciber bow slightly. "You will pay him what he asks. The cost will be shared by all those that are liberated," she ordered her son.

Mulciber's bow deepened. "It's always a pleasure to deal with a lady with true class," he said before turning to look daggers at her son. "Has the safe house been secured?"

"Yes. It was been taken care of today," Draco answered. "You have one week to make the grab. Otherwise, people might start asking questions."

"You may leave, gentlemen," Mrs Malfoy said to Mulciber and Rockwood. "Be ready to act when the moment comes."

"Of course, milady." After a short bow, both Death Eaters disapparated.

Mrs Malfoy turned to the others in the room. "I remind you of the Unbreakable vow you all made. If any of you are questioned, just answer as you have been told."

Silently, the assembly dispersed.

Harry arrived punctually at nine in the morning at the Burrow, carrying a bouquet of twenty Tantau roses and a wrapped gift. Ginny stood by the stairs, wearing a green, paisley patterned sundress and gladiator sandals. She beamed at him before she launched herself into his arms and rose to her tiptoes to snog him without regard for the audience that watched with different degrees of approval. Mrs Weasley raved about the flowers and had to pry them away from Ginny who had become lost in their aroma with a wistful smile on her face. "Let me put them on a vase," Mrs Weasley had insisted.

"Are you going to open your gift," Harry asked.

"Usually, I open them after breakfast... but... to hell with it," she said excitedly tearing away the wrapping. She opened the box to reveal a pair of ruby and gold earrings. "They are lovely, Harry," Ginny said softly and kissing his face tenderly. "Will you help me put them on?"

Harry helped clasp the earrings and was rewarded with another kiss before they headed to the table for breakfast.

Harry greeted all of her brothers and was introduced by Ginny to Charlie, who eyed him skeptically. Harry had never seen so much food at a breakfast table before. There were mounds of eggs, bacon, sausage, pancakes and more. Everything looked delicious.

"Can we get started already?" Ron asked impatiently, ignoring the kick that Hermione gave him under the table.

"Yes, Ron," Ginny replied rolling her eyes, "you can start stuffing yourself now."

That was all the encouragement he needed to start piling the food on his plate. Meanwhile Ginny, who was sitting next to Harry, grabbed his plate and despite his protests, started serving him his food.

"Since when you started serving other people their food?" Charlie asked puzzled. "That's not the Ginny I remember."

There was silence for a moment on the table, but Ginny was in a fantastic mood and answered with a bright smile, "Since I met Harry."

"How long have you known each other exactly?" Charlie pressed on.

Her smile didn't falter. She turned to Harry as she made a quick mental calculation, "Just over three weeks," she answered.

Charlie raised an eyebrow but didn't say anything more, choosing instead to pile a mound of food only slightly smaller than Ron's.

The breakfast conversation was light and varied and continued after they had finished eating.

"Do you have any special plans for tonight, Ginny?" Hermione asked as she poured some pumpkin juice into Ron's glass.

Ginny looked at Harry who simply shook his head. "No, nothing in particular."

"I thought we could all go to Trismegistus. Neville and Luna have asked me about getting together some time. We could tell them as well."

"That's a brilliant idea," Ginny said looking questioningly at Harry.

"It's your birthday, love. We'll do whatever you want," he said grabbing her hand.

"You can count us in!" Fred and George answered simultaneously.

"I'm too busy writing a report for the International Association of Magical Transportation," Percy said importantly as an excuse not to go.

"Thank Merlin for that!" Fred said as George laughed, and the others tried to hide their chuckles.

"What about you, Bill?" Ginny asked.

He opened his mouth to answer, but Fleur spoke first. "Oui, Ginny," she answered before turning to Bill. "You haven't taken me anywhere in months," she reprimanded him.

Bill just shrugged in defeat and nodded his head to Ginny.

Ginny laughed. "And you, Charlie?"

"If you can get me a date with that roommate of yours, I'll go," he answered wagging his eyebrows.

"Oh, I'm sorry, Charlie, but she went home to Italy to be with her family ten days ago,"

"I thought Mum said you just got to the Burrow last night," Charlie said confused. "You shouldn't be all by yourself at night in that flat."

Silence fell like a curtain on the table. The twins had gleeful smiles and sat back to wait for Ginny's answer. They had floo called her several times at night, and after getting no answer, had called the Burrow only to find that she wasn't there either. They knew how to add things up. Ron, on the other hand, had suspected "the worst" when Ginny Apparated to Harry's flat and had been trying really hard to ignore the whereabouts of his sister. Hermione had urged him to leave them alone, and she had rewarded him most generously for not asking questions. Bill sat wide eyed staring between Harry and Ginny, realization slowly dawning on him.

"Ehhm... I'm old enough to sleep alone in my flat if I want to," Ginny's answered, but it didn't come out as smoothly or forcefully as she had hoped for.

"Where have you been sleeping, Ginny?" Charlie asked glaring at Harry and turning redder by the second.

Harry was getting ready for the worst. He looked at Ginny, silently asking with his eyes if he should answer. She shook her head negatively.

"Do I have to do this with every single one of you?" she asked frustrated. "I'm twenty years old. Where I sleep is none of your damn business!" Ginny said glowering Charlie.

Bill was still in shock and had Fleur holding him back, but Charlie was free to get up menacingly from his chair.

"SIT DOWN!" Mr Weasley ordered.

Charlie was taken aback by the force in his father's tone and sat back down. The silence was only interrupted by the snickers of the twins.

"Your sister has had Auror protection at night. That's ALL you need to know or concern yourselves about. Is that clear?" he asked rhetorically. "Your mother and I approve of your sister relationship with Harry and hope it will continue to flourish."

Mr Weasley turned to Ginny. "I think your brothers need to know about the Chamber. Do I have your permission to tell them?"

Ginny grabbed Harry's hand and looked into his eyes. Harry blinked slowly once. "Yes, dad."

"What does Harry have to do with the Chamber?" Bill asked, raising his voice among the murmurs at the table.

"After your sister was rescued from the Chamber of Secrets," Mr Weasley started, "Dumbledore asked us to erase some details of her memory and we agreed..."

"What?" "Why?" "How could you?" A chorus of disbelief and disapproval rose from the table.

"It wasn't our proudest moment," Mr Weasley continued, lifting his arms as if to defend himself from the onslaught, "but your sister had almost been killed and Dumbledore assured us that forgetting certain details would make her safer. He caught us at our weakest, when Ginny's safety was the ONLY thing in our minds, so we agreed. We didn't ask many questions and Dumbledore didn't offer much information. One of the things he wanted her to forget was that Harry Potter had been her rescuer."

"How's that possible?" Bill asked. "He could have only been..."

"... twelve years old. Only the most senior members of the Order of the Phoenix were allowed to know this. The rest of the Wizarding world assumed it had been Dumbledore and Sirius Black who had rescued your sister, and nothing was said or done to change that notion. It seems that something started at the Chamber between your sister and Harry that was never allowed to develop. It's not a soul bond, but it's a kind of bond, nonetheless. Whether it's magical or not, I don't know. Whatever it is, your mother and I will no longer stand on the way of destiny, and I won't tolerate anyone else doing so either."

Even the twins were stunned into silence after their father finished talking. The following hours were some of the most embarrassing in Harry's life. One thing he positively hated was being thanked or congratulated for things he felt he had no choice on. For him saving the little redhead girl had never been a choice. It had been a necessity.

It was mid-afternoon when Ginny and Harry were sitting side by side on the back porch, resting after a pick-up Quidditch match. Ginny, Angelina, Ron and Harry had soundly defeated the team made up of Bill, Charlie, Fred and George.

"All my night dresses are in my flat, Harry," Ginny told him sleepily, "pick me up there tonight at nine."

"Are you going to floo over, or do you want me to take you there?"

"No, I'll use the Floo, love. Go home and rest. I think I'll go take a nap in my room."

"Then come with me, Ginny. Let's take a nap in our room. In our flat."

Ginny looked up at him and smiled. "I like the sound of that. Our room. Our flat." Ginny paused and remembered the emptiness she felt the previous night. She had tossed and turned most of the night and hadn't gotten any decent sleep. "I'm never sleeping away from you again unless it's absolutely necessary, Harry... as long as you will have me."

"Do you really think this is going to stop? That I will ever stop loving you?" There was a tinge of hurt in his voice.

"I dare hope not," she said looking at him with eyes blazing. "But sometimes I feel so happy, I'm afraid something will happen to take you away."

"I'll never let anyone or anything keep us apart again, Ginny. I promise."

She smiled warmly at him. "I'll hold you to that, Potter." They stayed silent for a couple of minutes before Ginny spoke again. "Tomorrow I'll ask Hermione and Luna to help me move my things to our flat," she said, turning to see his reaction.

His green eyes sparkled with happiness. Harry leaned to the side of the chair, and she met him halfway. It was a soft, wet kiss that just went on and on until it left them breathless.

"This is just a nap, Harry. It would be rude for me to leave when there are still guests around. Go home and rest a little," she told him with a sweet smile.

Harry hadn't gotten much sleep the previous night either and was feeling tired. "Okay, love. I'll pick you up at nine."

After another long, gentle kiss, Harry got up and headed down the path to the apparition point.

Mrs Weasley shook her arm vigorously. "Ginny, wake up. Wake up!"

Ginny stirred and mumbled. "What?... What time is it."

"It's already a quarter to eight, dear. You have to get ready."

Ginny sprang to her feet so fast she felt a little dizzy, "Mum, why didn't you wake me up earlier. I have to shower, do my hair and get dressed!"

"You were sleeping so peacefully I didn't want to wake you. Sorry, dear."

"It's okay, Mum," she said as she ran down the stairs towards the fireplace.

Ginny got to the fireplace only to find that flowerpot on the mantelpiece had no more Floo powder. "Mum," she called out, "do you have any more Floo powder?"

Mrs Weasley was coming down the stairs "No, we're all out. We didn't foresee all these people coming and going and it just ran out," she said apologetically.

"I'll have to Apparate to my flat. Remind me to have the people from Kleen-Floo send you some powder. An unlimited personal supply is part of my contract with them." Ginny kissed her mum on the cheek and walked briskly towards the door.

"Shouldn't you call your minder?" Mrs Weasley called out, walking after her.

"There's no time to wait for him, Mum. I'm just apparating directly to my flat," she said already walking down the dirt path. "It's not like I'm going anywhere."

"At least wait for one your brothers to take you!"

Ginny didn't make out her words; she was already halfway down the path. Just as she was reaching the Apparition point, two men seemed to appear out of nowhere. Ginny's heart started racing as she pulled her wand out her dress pocket in a flash, just barely in time to raise a shield to deflect a stunner. She immediately went on the offensive firing stunners towards the surprised men. One managed to block her spell, but the other fell unconscious several meters back. Ginny tried to inch her way towards the wards while facing her opponent, but out of the corner of her eye saw another man blocking her escape. The other wizard took advantage of her distraction to enervate the man she had just stunned.

Stunners wouldn't do. Not when she was outnumbered. She blocked the next volley of stunners and countered with a Depulso charm against one of the men. He only partially blocked it and went crashing against a tree, falling unconscious to the ground again. The Diffindo spell tore through the other man's shield and hit his arm with all her power. His wand arm was left hanging by a thread of flesh and he screamed in agony as blood poured out. Ginny immediately turned to face the wizard blocking the way back to the wards and she deflected an Expelliarmus spell just in time. The wizard took a nervous step back. He was more concerned about blocking than attacking at that point. She could see the fear in his eyes. The screams of her brothers reached her and a sense of relief flooded her. At that same moment she heard someone moving behind her. She started turning when her world went black.
