Hello everybody and welcome back to "Redemptions and Chasms"! I've figured out some of my writer's block and have another chapter for y'all to enjoy.

I do not own Phantom of the Opera. All credit goes to Andrew Loyd Weber, and I don't own Inuyasha which all credit goes to Rumiko Takahashi.

~Kagome's POV…~

I listened to the chaos that was happening on top of the bed with terror and sorrow. My mistress was being abused and tortured while I was hiding beneath her and the master of the house. I cried silently as I heard Christine weep and whimper in pain, sometimes letting out heart wrenching screams as the master hit her and whipped her back. The demons that he had brought back didn't miss that I was there under the bed, but for some odd reason they remained indifferent to my presence, scared even as I could understand their quiet murmurs to each other. Though I couldn't really make out what they were saying.

And with the added threat of Raoul in the room, I wouldn't dare anger the demons. And though I thought about leaving my hiding place, me coming out from underneath the bed would be a death sentence for me since Raoul was in the room.

I went completely still when I heard Raoul, muffled by the bed frame, "For tonight, for your insolence and leaving for the outside, you will feel my dark side, dear wife. You will be broken before morning comes. And the demons I brought me will torment you afterwards." And I heard Christine struggle the most at this as she screamed the loudest yet. Soon, Christine's scream faded into a pain-filled whimper that slowly disappeared into silence. Raoul soon groaned in pain from his time at the cultists' meeting and he too passed out from the pain from his own wounds and the alcohol he consumed.

I heard nothing more as I listened for minutes on end… hoping… praying… That Christine would wake and leave. Soon I heard all I needed to hear.

~Third Person POV…~

Christine slowly woke up from being knocked unconscious by Raoul. She felt pain in his head and on her face. Not only that, but she also felt pain in her right arm and felt as though the room was spinning. She heard ragged breathing behind her… or above her… trying to get a clear airway. She didn't dare move, especially if it were Raoul breathing, but she did dare to open her eyes. What she saw made her freeze.

There was Raoul standing above her with a chain wrapped around his neck and body. He was staring at her with rage filled eyes, and after a few moments, he noticed that she had opened her eyes to look at him. He growled and sneered, but the pain in his lungs and the chains around him caused him to grimace. He coughed as the chains tightened around his chest as he tried to curse her. Fighting against the chains and failing, Raoul was forced to his knees.

Once on the floor, the chains kept him there as he and Christine heard a disembodied voice from somewhere, sending chills down Christine's spine and col hearted fear in Raoul, "Seems you are in a predicament, boy… Trapped in chains and forced to the floor… This is a warning to you, Raoul. These chains won't be visible to anyone save you, Christine, and myself. You'll soon find out their full purpose soon enough, and they will only get longer and heavier as you further try do to Christine. Until I get my hands on your miserable hide, you will suffer for Christine." The voice maniacally laughed before fading into ominous silence and darkness.

Christine, pale and shaking, dizzy with terror, as Raoul growled and flew into a rage, blaming her. The chains had disappeared as soon as the voice was silent, but as Raoul turned towards Christine to strike her, they reappeared almost instantly around him, turning red hot, setting his clothing on his torso aflame and burning his arm. He screamed in pain as he reeled back in agony, away from Christine. As soon as he was far enough away from Christine, the heated chains suddenly cooled to normal, leaving angry, red burns on his arm's flesh.

Sneering at his arm and at Christine, he growled out, "Seems my dear wife that you're safe from any punishment I try to deal out to you. But know this wretched wife, I will find a way to punish you for this crime against me." He stormed out the room, a single word reaching her ears, "Lowlife."

Christine, on the verge of fainting, let Raoul's words ring through her mind. I will never forget what he's done, or how he spoke to me tonight… She felt her tears as they made their way down her cheeks. Always crying in silence… in fear of the one who abuses me… I will never feel safe again with any man… She thought as she felt blood run down her check and wrists.

As she struggled to remain conscious, a voice sounded in the room, the same one who threatened Raoul. Yet, it was gentle, slow, comforting, "Christine…" It whispered. Christine tensed up at the voice, her eyes popping open to cautiously look around the room in fear.

She froze in terror as a dark figure appeared in the doorway of the closet. She felt herself start to panic when the black and green fabric that the figure wore came to the bed where she lay on. She flinched back as the figure came within arm's reach and she whimpered in pain, saying, "Please, don't hurt me…"

When nothing came save the gentle, comforting hand on her shoulder, she screamed. Yet the hand and arm didn't retreat. Instead, the person gently scooped her up and carefully hugged her on his chest, trying their best to make her feel safe and comforted. Christine went silent, her body still tense; however, she was confused. This isn't Raoul… He would never hold me like this a try to comfort me… Who…? She looked up, and her eyes went wide, her fear retreating, and shame taking its place.

It was Assassin. Her protector and friend from the Assassin's Order. He had always been there for her since almost the beginning of her marriage to Raoul. Christine thought back to the time they met. It was a few weeks after her wedding, and Assassin had become her source of comfort and venting over her failing marriage to Raoul. Now he, along with Kagome, had become her closest friend and confidant.

Christine started to cry as she felt her adrenaline start to wain from seeing Raoul raging with chains. Clutching Assassin's robes, Christine sobbed, feeling at the end of her rope, despite having help right in front of her. Assassin pulled her into a bear hug, trying his best to comfort her. He shushed her, murmuring to her words of comfort. Soon he had her quiet down, and he whispered, almost with father like orderliness, "Christine, it's time to leave. If you linger here, you will lose your life. Raoul isn't worth your life to stay here. What Raoul is doing is going to cost not only your life, but many other people's lives. Please come with me."

Christine sighed, knowing what he said was true, seeing the truth in what he said. She looked up to him and murmured, "Very well. When do we leave?"

Assassin hummed, pleased to hear that she finally accepted in full that he had to say. He pulled back a little and ordered a bit louder, "Kagome, you can come out now." Christine gasped, having forgotten all about Kagome being under the bed. She turned and watched as Kagome shimmed out from under the bed and stood up.

Dusting herself off first, Kagome rushed over to Christine and pulled her into a tight hug, crying, "Finally, my lady! You agreed! Come! I'll get our personal items ready and meet you and Assassin at the back exit of the house. We need to leave this place immediately before Raoul comes back. Besides…" She pulled back from Christine and looked around the room as if she could feel as if someone or something else was in the room with them.

Christine hummed and asked, seeing Kagome understood something was happening that she herself didn't, "Kagome, why suddenly do you want to leave here? I know we must, but I can tell something is wrong."

Kagome turned back to Christine and Assassin, stating, "When Raoul came to the room earlier, there were several demons that were with him and witnessing what was going on between the two of you."

Christine paled and Assassin tensed a bit. Christine asked, "What does that have to do with anything?" Assassin quickly moved to the armoire and started to pack a bag of Christine's clothing and Kagome went over to the water closet to gather some personal items for the journey they would soon be on.

Kagome gestured to Christine to join her as she prepared, explaining, "The demons were there to take in your scent and your image to track you down if you had the opportunity to escape, and at such an inopportune time too… We need to get as far from here as possible and get you to a safe house before they come after you and me. And Assassin will help with that. Now come! You sit down and I will help you get cleaned up and your wounds stitched up. We must get a move on in the next hour."

Assassin came over with a full bag of items for Christine. Enough for three days of travel. He inquired to Kagome, "Kagome, I will go to your trunk in the servants' quarters and grab your items for you. I know you don't have much in your possession, but you'll need it all to aid our escape from here." Kagome nodded without a word and Assassin disappeared silently out of the room.

Kagome got the key for the one shackle that Raoul had gotten onto Christine's wrist before she helped Christine into a simple yet comfortable dress for travel. Assassin reappeared soon afterwards and handed Kagome a servant's dress stating that she would be an eye sore if she wore her simple blue and white kimono. Kagome sighed, going behind the changing screen and changed, coming out and packing her kimono away in her bag that Assassin had brought back with him.

Once both Christine and Kagome were ready, Assassin explained in a low voice, "It's time ladies. We need to move. Tomorrow morning, Raoul is having a cultist meeting here and we need to be away from here else Kagome, you are going to be killed. We will make our way to the back door and our ride out of town will meet us at the stables' front. Come." He ushered them quietly through the door and into the hallway. They all listened intently for a few hot seconds. Hearing nothing Assassin lead them silently through the house. Fortunately, they met no one on their way to the stables.

Once outside, Assassin had Kagome and Christine put up their cloaks' hood to keep their identities hidden. He whistled and out of the darkness a carriage pulled by four black draft horses came rolling by quietly, driven none other than by Samwise Peters. He was dressed in all black with some dark red accents. And he had the Assassin's Order crest on his belt.

Christine and Kagome both gasped quietly, pausing with Assassin as Sam brought the carriage to a halt. He jumped down and greeted them in a low tone, "Hello Ladies Christine and Kagome. Evening Assassin. Please get in the carriage. We need to be away from here. I have a bad feeling that things are going to take a weird turn soon." Assassin grunted, and he moved to let down the steps to the carriage as Sam got back in the driver seat.

Assassin handed Christine and Kagome into the carriage and proceeded to climb atop of the carriage's roof, to aid Sam in protecting the women inside. Sam urged the horses forwards slowly and joined the few lingering carriages still moving at this late hour.

~In a cave several miles out of Paris…~

Naraku overlooked the city of Paris in his cloak and narrowed his eyes. He sensed the priestess moving through the city. She must be moving eastward… That is where her aura is headed… He sneered at the thought of even her being alive still. Growling out, he ordered two bear demons, "Move out and meet the carriage that carries the Shikon priestess. Bring her back dead, for her blood is needed to create a new Shikon jewel! Stick to the shadows and keep yourselves hidden. We cannot have the populace know there are demons amongst them."

The two corrupted bear demons nodded in understanding and lumbered out of the clearing and towards the city, having known the scent of Kagome. Naraku didn't even watch them leave as he sneered over the city. He thought to the wretched priestess' mistress. She has a heart just like Kagome, yet as naïve and innocent as a lamb ready for slaughter, unlike the knowledge Kagome has. She will be the perfect one to create a new Shikon no Tama… And I will get my way this time… Even it takes the blood of many.

He turned his back on the city of Paris, his insane laughter sounding and haunting the surrounding area as if cursing it. Disappearing into the depths of the earth, all living things would avoid the area the next morning… For death had come to the area.

~In the carriage…~

Christine looked out of the carriage's window and into the night. She found it so weirdly impossible to be here, unnerved, and terrified at the possibility of her being recaptured by Raoul and his servants. She made small hums and gasps whenever the carriage went over a large bump, despite knowing she was in capable hands who were willing to help her escape. Christine just couldn't get the feeling of dread and a sense of foreboding filled her as the carriage made its way further from the city's center.

Kagome watched her mistress with hooded eyes. She knew what Christine was thinking about and it made her heart fill with sorrow. For an hour she watched Christine gaze out the window in silent contemplation before she spoke, "Christine, we will be safe where we are going to. Do not worry. Even if Raoul knows you're not in the mansion anymore, the probability of him coming after you and finding you get lower and lower as you get further and further away from here."

Christine nodded ever so slightly, her tense nerves unraveling a bit at Kagome's words. Yet the feeling of foreboding remained ever present. Kagome could feel the evil aura of Naraku's malice somewhere in Paris or near it. She had grown so much since more than three hundred years ago. Especially with her mating Touga. Her powers and reiki had increasing so much so, she was considered the wisest person around in her native Japan.

Assassin hoped down into the carriage's interior from the roof and sat next to Christine. He enclosed her in a brief hug, saying, "We're approaching the city limits and will be entering the countryside in the next few minutes. Samwise and I are going to be on high alert for a few hours as we make out way to the safe house. However, I sense evil afoot." He paused at Kagome's knowing yet tense nod and Christine's tensing muscles under his arm.

Continuing, Assassin lowered his voice, "I sense Naraku near the city. I have the feeling he knows you're on the move Kagome. With your heightened senses and powers, I am sure he knows he cannot survive another encounter with you, especially since he doesn't have the Shikon Jewel, but he knows he can wound you emotionally by harming Christine. Be on guard Kagome and keep out your bow and ofuda. We will be needing it incase Naraku sent some of his goons to attack us." He let go of Christine yet paused at her gasp of fright of him leaving.

He raised a brow and Christine stuttered out, "How can you be so calm that we're going to be safe at this safe house, Assassin? Just because I am now away from Raoul and safe with you doesn't mean he cannot harm the others I know and care for. What if Madame Giry and Meg get captured and killed? I… I couldn't live with myself knowing they were the victims of torture or lost…?" She tightened her hands on his as she spoke, nearly whispering once done. She was on the verge of tears.

Asssassin sat back down and pulled her into another hug as Kagome placed soothing and comforting hands on her back and shoulder. Kagome cooed, trying her best to comfort, "Assassin has a plan to get Madama Antoinette Giry and her daughter Meg out of France and to Norway along with you Christine. You can count on him, Sam, and the Assassin's Order to keep us all safe. And besides… I also have the feeling that I have family who knows I am alive. Hoping and praying I get back to them." Assassin nodded approvingly at Kagome's words.

Christine let her tense muscles relax as Assassin and Kagome comfort her. She leaned into Assassin's hug and let her tears go, knowing if she got them out now, she would be feeling much better mentally. Soon her tears dried up and leaned away from her protector. Assassin smiled and without a word, jumped through the carriage's sunroof and he closed it.

Kagome took Christine hands and simply rubbed her thumbs over Christine's knuckles. They didn't speak as all that had to be said was spoken. Despite being comforted and her nerves soothed, Christine couldn't shake the feeling of foreboding grow again in her gut. Kagome felt it too. She hummed, motioning Christine to remain seated, "Stay there Christine, I'm going to speak with Assassin and Sam about this feeling of foreboding."

Christine nodded and shimmied over to allow Kagome better access to the roof's moveable screen. Kagome moved the piece aside and propped her torso on the roof's edge, looking to Assassin and Sam. Concern immediately went through her as she saw the two men in arguing about how to process. She cleared her throat, the two men going silent. Sam continued to drive, yet listened intently as Assassin looked at her, expectantly. Having lost some of her boldness, Kagome asked meekly, "What's going on? Both Christine and I have feelings of foreboding. Not only that I feel demons approaching."

Assassin nodded gravely, quietly mentioning without giving it away visibly, "There are two bear demons stalking that Naraku sent. I have a feeling they'll attack the carriage if we keep moving too quickly. If so, we're in for a terrible night. I…"

Just as Assassin was about to finish, two bears came running out of the darkness, roaring with teeth bared. Chaos ensued as Kagome screamed in rage, ducking into the carriage to protect Christine. Sam struggled to keep the horses under control as Assassin fought off the demons. As Assassin faced off one bear, Kagome let out an arrow filled with her reiki at the other bear demon to keep it from ripping into the carriage.

The bear demon growled and roared in terrible pain as the arrow lodged deep into its flesh of its shoulder. Its aura grew weaker and weaker as Kagome's reiki overpowered its evil nature. Yet before the bear demon fell to the ground in death, it drew all its strength to rush the carriage and rip into the door and beyond. Christine and Kagome screamed in terror as the bear demon desperately tried to grasp at them even as its strength drained. Sam struggled to keep the horses from bolting, even as he tried to scare off the bear demon and failing. Assassin grunted as he finished off the first bear demon.

The carriage, now pushed up off its right wheels, strained under the weight of the bear and its passengers, creaked, and shuddered as the bear demon slumped against it, struggling to get inside to Christine and Kagome even as it weakened. The bear demon swiped at the women, rocking the carriage wildly and it jostled Kagome and Christine senseless.

A few second of trying to get their feet even as the bear demon attacked the carriage's door, the two women screamed for Assassin. Said man growled and he got an opening at the bear demon's shoulder, injuring it enough where its arm would be useless for life. The bear demon roared at Assassin and turned on him. Kagome instantly went quiet and saw her chance, sneering at the bear demon. She grabbed her bow and an arrow, taking clear aim at the bear demon. She charged the arrow with her reiki, drenching it in holy power and letting it fly.

Kagome threw herself over Christine and Assassin and Sam turned their back as the arrow hit the between bear demon's ribs and lodged deep into its chest. With Kagome's reiki drenching the arrow, it instantly purified the demon, killing it. No one moved and stayed where they were for a few seconds. Silence reigned the forest around them, save for the horses' shuffling feet and nervous sounds of noses breathing heavily.

That was until a sound was heard and it was Christine. She groaned in pain, doubling over in as if she was injured. Kagome, panicking, rushed to her side and looked Christine over. She had a large gash on her stomach, and it was bleeding profusely. Christine shook in shock and fear, trying her best to stay awake as Kagome ordered her to remain awake.

Kagome turned panicked eyes to Assassin and Sam as she tried her best to stop the bleeding, begging, "We need to get her to a doctor! Now! Assassin call Scotty!"

Assassin shook his head and crossed his arms, face hard as he denied, "No. We cannot risk her seeing things that she shouldn't be seeing! It could cause terrible things to happen for the future."

Sam looked around the clearing as he calmed the horses down, quietly mentioning, "Assassin, if we don't get Scotty and the others involved, Christine is bound to die of her wounds tonight. Kagome cannot heal her and keep her alive by herself. And knowing you… As good as your medic abilities are, even you would have a difficult time in keeping her alive."

Assassin's face said it all. He struggled with the matter of calling Scotty and bringing Christine to a place that could very well endanger all of humanity. In the end, with the threat of Christine bleeding out and Kagome's panicked and pleading eyes, he gave in to Sam and Kagome. He pressed a hidden button on his clothing, mumbling, "Scotty, four to beam into the medical wing. We have an emergency, and Christine is seriously injured."

A voice sounded quietly to Assassin's ears only, "Got ya there, Assassin. I'll transport you and the other straight there. Give me five minutes though. The medics need to be informed." Assassin grunted and mumbled a thanks before Scotty signed off.

Kagome, less panicked, did her best to stop the bleeding on Christine's stomach as Sam let the horses wander around the area with long lead and Assassin stood guard. Soon all four disappeared from the area, no one noticing their disappearance.

~Far away in China…~

Sesshomaru and Rin, along with their small entourage of travelers, looked over the maps of trade routes and roads to Europe. They had been traveling a day or so now and Sesshomaru and Rin had just finished up a minor rescue mission of several European natives. All five of them had been enslaved by the Chinese as they returned to their native Chinese homeland and all five were kidnapped from high classed families.

The first young woman, Frigga, was from Norway and well learned in at least a dozen languages and navigation aside from being a well learned housewife. The second, Reginald, was from England and learned as well in everything, and he even spoke French and Norwegian aside from his native English. The third and fourth were siblings, two teenage sisters who named themselves Mary and Sarah. They were kidnapped from their high-class family who were quite well versed in trade and negotiation. However, they only spoke English and Norwegian.

The final one, a woman of 50 years of age was rough looking. She introduced herself as Esmeralda and she had been captured several years ago and had concluded that she wouldn't be rescued. She was from Paris, France, just the place where they needed to go to. She would be their translator, for she had learned to speak and write Japanese and Chinese from the people who had kidnapped her seven years prior and was teaching the others as well.

All five had, over the past seven years at different times, been kidnapped or captured by the same group of nomad Chinese marauders when their families had decided to travel to the east to visit India. The intention was to use them as indentured servants or prostitutes. Now with Sesshomaru and Rin, they all have been grateful at the rescue, and all were now loyal to them. Rin had immediately gone out to them all and she had bonded with all five of them. Esmeralda especially since she spoke and wrote Japanese flawlessly. And despite Sesshomaru's hesitation and his reservations about bringing on five more people to the expedition to the West, he saw Rin's and his advisor's words as sound advice.

In no rambling words, Rin spoke plainly, "Having five Europeans as part of our expedition team and traveling partners, our credibility is guaranteed, Sess. Not only that, each, and every one of them has skills that will aid us as we get closer to Europe. Languages they speak will be beyond important. Perhaps we can even return them to their families once this errand of retrieving Kagome is over with." After those words, Sesshomaru quickly caved to her words and accepted all five as part of the group, as their pack.

Aside from Rin, Ryotsusi his advisor, and his nomi servant Myoga, Sesshomaru now had to consider food for five more mouths and travel, people from foreign lands and they were humans. Putting the needs aside for now, he looked over the map, contemplative, "What say you, Ryotsusi? You know this area of the mainland better than any of us." He, Rin, Ryotsusi, Myoga, and their five new pack members were in the main tent they used for meetings, contemplating the maps, and discussing plans on how to move west.

Ryotsusi studied the maps as well, saying to the group as Rin quietly translated to their European friends, concern filling him, "Well… right now we're stationed on the outskirts of this main Chinese city. We need to head north to the main trade route that is now called the Silk Road. It travels all the way to a region called the Middle East. It goes from this Chinese city, through China, into and through Persia, and it ends in two different cities as it splits in Palmyra. The northern city where it ends is Antioch and the southern city where it ends in is Giza, Egypt. Although now the main route is in severe disuse as there are several other routes along it." He paused and moved his finger along the map, tracing a route to the cities he mentioned.

Sesshomaru hummed, "How quickly do you think we can travel this route without rousing suspicion from other travelers? And how long would this trip be at such speed, Ryotsusi? Especially now that we have five new people to our pack?" He asked because he wanted to keep their health in mind.

Ryotsusi smirked, knowing Sesshomaru was concerned for their human companions, "As for that, to travel west along the Silk Road with human travelers, its quite hazardous. With the rise and fall of the Ottoman Empire a few centuries back, we'll have to be careful in many areas as they have little to no security from the surrounding cities and villages. My guess is that we follow along this direction here, where we can chance at using our demon forms for security so we can protect our human companions without rousing the surrounding population. It will take us… about three to four weeks to travel this route to the city of Palmyra and another two or three days to Antioch.

"From Antioch, we can head to the Mediterranean Sea and pay a sailing ship to France. Esmeralda and Frigga, this is where both of you will help greatly. With each of your knowledge of the languages in the area, you will help our group to navigate Europe. Maybe we will even be able to find your families." Ryotsusi directly stated to the two women. They all looked to Sesshomaru, who nodded, were surprised at him, yet they nodded and smiled. They thought Sesshomaru cold and calculated and unforgiving. Yet they had learned from their new mistress Rin and from observation, Sesshomaru was open, warm, and accepting. It just took time to see it.

Esmeralda nodded, speaking up, "Thank you Lord Sesshomaru. Sarah and Mary are excited to see if they can rejoin their family. However, Mary, Reginald, and I would rather remain with you and Mistress Rin."

Sesshomaru and Ryotsusi were taken aback, and Rin remained impassive at the admission. Sesshomaru inquired, "Why would you want to remain with this Sesshomaru?"

Esmeralda looked down at her clasped hands, silent for a moment. Sesshomaru waited patiently, wondering, yet knowing there must be something she was running from. He was surprised when she looked back up to him, a pleading look in her eyes as she continued, "I… My past in Paris, France isn't… a nice past. I was originally a well-known singer at a local opera house years ago and I married into a vastly rich noble family, whose son originally married me for love.

"Or so I thought… He… he made me a mockery amongst my piers and abused be behind closed doors. Soon after our wedding, he forced me to sing at many of his private events… unclothed… He even let his friends and business partners… pretty much have their way with me…" She choked on her words for a moment, looking away, and Sesshomaru, Rin, Ryotsusi, and the others were sickened at how her husband pretty much became her abuser.

She looked back to Sesshomaru and with a determined looked, continued, "This went on for two years before I had enough saved up from my opera position to disappear into the night with help from the opera stagehands. I headed east to the city you both were discussing, Palmyra, and I made myself known as a great cook in a local inn there. I was there for almost seven months when that marauder group of Chinese men came and stole me away. Now with you, I am confident that my former husband can be brought to justice. And why would I want to stay in Europe where the very people who abandoned me live? No. I will come with you to France to help Christine and Kagome, and Frigga, Reginald, and I will return to Japan with you as servants. If you so choose."

Sesshomaru and Rin looked at each other, Rin smiled and nodded. Sesshomaru nodded, asking, not ordering, "Very well. Would you be willing to help us translate when we get to France?"

Esmeralda and Frigga looked at each other and then at the other speaking in their native languages. When all nodded and agreed, both women nodded at each other before looking at Sesshomaru. Esmeralda spoke for herself and the others, "We all are willing to help in some way. Just say the word and we'll do it."

Sesshomaru nodded ever so slightly. He looked around looking at each individual and all were determined to follow his lead. He closed his eyes and hummed, "Alright. This Sesshomaru adjourns this meeting. Ryotsusi, you take the first watch, and I will take the second watch. The rest of you sleep in this tent since there are more of us. I rather not take risk of losing one of you."

Everyone nodded. Soon Ryotsusi watched for all potential threats while the others slept. Sesshomaru, despite the appearance of sleeping, remained in a semi-awake state to help with watching. With that, Sesshomaru and his group were on their way to rescue Kagome.
