I'M BACK!
Finally, I'm so so sorry about the wait, but here is the chapter!
I DON'T OWN AVATAR!
Surprisingly, not a lot of things changed after Reyna showed Zuko her face.
She still spared with him. Drank tea and talked with him. Silently make fun of his yelling things. But every once in a while, she would notice him going easy on her or trying to be formal. Every time he tried, she would tell him that she was still her and that she didn't want him to be like that.
She hadn't told Zuko her real name though, only Iroh knew that, and he somehow understood that she wished for it to remain a secret. Her face was still covered by her helmet like the rest of the crew.
Speaking of the crew, they had started to show her respect after learning that she was a firebender. Reyna was absolutely fine with this. She liked the respect.
She also found time to practice airbending and a little bit of waterbending. Airbending was now like another since, Waterbending, on the other hand, was more difficult. Maybe on her journey she could find a waterbending teacher.
She wouldn't keep her hopes up though.
It was night, month sixteen and Reyna was trying to sleep in her bed. She was dressed in a thick tunic and black trousers. It was part of the colder time of the year and Reyna was more than prepared.
KNOCK
KNOCK
KNOCK
The young Avatar shot up with a yelp. She looked at the door of her chambers. Who in the spirits would try to wake her up at that unsprititly hour?
"Rin!" Whisper-yelled the voice of a certain fire prince. "Rin! I need to tell you something."
Zuko.
Muttering, Reyna made her way to the door and opened it. Sure enough, Zuko was on the other side, scrolls and maps in his arms. He looked at her messy hair and the small bags under her eyes.
"Oh, were you sleeping?"
"I was trying to."
"But you're awake now. Great." He walked right into her chambers.
"Come right on in please," she muttered. "Make yourself at home."
She left the door, opened a smudge, and sat down on the other side of her small table where Zuko had started to unroll the scrolls.
"I think I have found some clues." He pointed to several areas on the map. "We have checked all the air temples, everywhere we could in the fire nation, parts of the earth kingdom, and a sliver of the north and south poles. He's nowhere to be found." He looked up and met Reyna's eyes. "But then I realized that perhaps he could have been avoiding us. He must have left after we were gone."
Reyna rubbed her temples. "Let me guess." She muttered. "You want us to recheck everywhere that we have already been to?"
"Maybe." Zuko slumped a little. "I don't know what I'm doing wrong, Rin. He had to be here. Somewhere."
Oh, the guilt. Reyna wanted to blurt out the truth there and then. But what would happen then? Zuko was so obsessed with finding the avatar, she would do anything to do so. But her secret was digging into her mind, begging to be let out.
She placed a hand onto Zuko's shoulder. "Hey," She said. "It's late and you're tired. How about we look at this in the morning? Get a good night's sleep?"
Zuko shrugged her off. "No. I need to find him."
OK, enough was enough.
"Fire Prince Zuko." Reyna said in a cold, demanding voice. "You are fourteen years old. If you don't go back to your chambers and sleep, I swear to the moon spirits that I will lock you in the hold and won't let you out until sunrise."
Zuko stared at her.
For a second, Reyna thought that she would do that same thing to her. Then he surprised her.
He laughed.
Shock filled Reyna as she stared at the laughing prince.
"Um, Prince Zuko… you sane?"
Once he got his giggles under control, he gave her a small smile. "I suppose I do need sleep." He mumbled under his breath, like he had never laughed at all.
Reyna couldn't help but laugh in response. "OK. So are you going to go to sleep?"
Zuko gave her a small nod, then he gathered his maps and made his way out of her room. Before he left, he looked behind his shoulder. "G-goodnight Rin. And thank you." He had said that last part in a whisper.
Then he was gone.
Reyna looked at the opposite side of her room. The feeling of guilt still swayed inside of her and she felt herself sniffle as she tried to prevent tears.
A year.
A whole year had passed.
So far, she had been doing great at suppressing the feelings of homesickness, but at that exact moment, reality settled onto her and she could hold back.
Standing in front of Iroh's room, sweat had started to form on the side of her head.
Well, here goes nothing.
She raised her fist and knocked softly.
Moments after, Iroh opened the door, dressed in a gray robe. "Oh, Reyna. A lovely surprise!" Then he noticed the tear marks and her puffy eyes. "Oh, my. Please come in."
Once she was in, Iroh had her sit down on one side of a small table and poured her a cup of tea. A soft blanket had been wrapped around her shaking shoulders.
"Iroh," She sniffled. "I need to tell you something. Something that I'm not sure how you will react to."
Iroh raised an eyebrow. "Whatever it is, I'm sure I've heard odder. Go ahead. I don't judge."
Taking one last sip of tea, Reyna said her head and blurted out the truth.
"I'm the avatar."
Once again, thank you to everyone who is currently reading this text. I'm so glad that people like my random stuff!
I might be able to write more soon, but I can't promise that.
I will not do Boy in the Ice Burg next chapter, but perhaps the once after that? I don't know. I'll cross that bridge when I get to it.
