Hey guys!
Whoa. I did not expect this to be written this quickly. But here it is.
It's a bit longer than the other chapters. Don't worry most of the chapters will be shorter.
I do not own Avatar. Just Reyna. And Rezu.
Season One, Episode Two
THE AVATAR RETURNS
Reyna wasn't prepared for what happened next.
Almost instantly, Zuko got ready for battle. With the help of several servants (plus Reyna) were busy helping him get into is armor.
Reyna, herself, was already dress head-to-toe in her normal dark read armor that matched the rest of the crew's.
"Are you ready?" She asked Zuko, one everyone else was out of the room.
"Yes." He replied, without missing a beat. "I've been ready for a long time."
Reyna should have been excited, happy even.
But the feeling from before hadn't left. It grew, like her OCD was catching every misplaced grain of sand on a beach back home.
It worried her.
She had told Iroh, of course.
"Be mindful of it." He had told her. "Tell me if it gets any worse."
When she was younger, Reyna had found out that she had a high tolerance for pain.
But the feeling wasn't painful.
It that almost the opposite.
Soothing.
Refreshing.
Yet, it was also unsettling at the same time.
It felt as if she didn't belong there.
As the ship got closer, the ice around it fell away.
As well a something that looked like a watch tower.
Zuko, Reyna, and a few other soldiers were standing in wait.
Soon the ship would open and they would get the Avatar.
Reyna would be one step closer to getting home.
The gangplank opened, reveling to Reyna a village.
It was small.
Smaller than it had been a thousand years ago.
Zuko lead the soldiers, with Reyna right behind him.
A ping of gilt hit her when she watched the young children hide behind their caretakers when they saw them.
It hurt.
To be feared.
Suddenly, a young man around Reyna ago, charged at Zuko, shouting out a ware cry.
Zuko casually kicked the boy's weapon out of his hand.
Then kicked him in the face, sending him sprawling on the ice to the planks right.
Reyna tried not to let out a laugh as his head got stuck in the snow and he struggled to free himself.
Her joy instantly vanished when the villagers draw back in fright, knowing that they stood no chance at fighting off the firebenders.
Zuko looked over the crowd, then walks over to a young girl (around 14) and an older woman.
"Where are you hiding him?"
When the crowd didn't answer, he grabbed the older woman and shook her harshly.
Reyna's fist tightened.
"He'd be about this age? Master of all the elements?"
Again no one responded.
After a brief pause, he threw the woman roughly back to the girl.
With a cry of frustration he launched a burst of flame over the villager's heads.
They cowered in fear.
Reyna did all that she could mentally do to stop herself from calling Zuko off.
"I know you're hiding him!"
Behind the prince, the thought-to-be-defeated-warrior got up, his face paint largely gone. He retrieves his weapon (a boomerang) and charged again at Zuko, another cry leaving his mouth.
Zuko just turned to him in annoyance. He dodged the guy's charge easily and flips him over his head.
Princy fires a blast of flame at him, but the suborn warrior rolled out of the way, and threw his boomerang at Zuko at the same time.
Caught by surprise, Zuko barely avoided the boomerang.
He turned to look back in anger at the guy over the near miss.
Weaponless, the guy looked a little worried.
A little boy who stood watching, came to his rescue, and threw him a spear.
"Show no fear!"
Reyna would have "awed" if it had been another time.
Zuko's opponent caught the spear and charged at Zuko once again, who, as Sokka reaches him, broke off pieces of the spear shaft with his wrist guards.
After the head of the spear has been shorn off, Zuko grabbed the spear, boinks the poor guy on the forehead with it several times.
Then, when it broke in half, he dropped the pieces on the ground.
The fighter, after getting bonked on the head, has also sunk to the ground, rubbing his head.
Zuko stood sternly over him, believing he had won.
But the fight wasn't over.
A glint appeared in the distance.
At first Reyna was confused.
But, soon enough the gilt slammed into Zuko in the back of the head, knocking his helmet clean off.
Furious, Zuko began to spit fire out of his hands as he hovers menacingly over the terrified member of the water tribe.
Suddenly, something came sliding upon the snow right at Zuko, sweeping the prince's legs from under him.
Zuko lands butt up.
The helmet lands on his behind in a oddest manner.
Reyna was defiantly going to make fun of that later.
The children cheer as whoever reached the villagers.
It took a little bid but Reyna finally saw who it was.
A kid, around 12, covered in blue markings and orange robes.
He looked, familiar.
Not that Reyna knew a lot of people like him, but something was... off.
The feeling seemed to be stronger, pulsing threw her vanes like it was mixed with her own blood.
As he and the penguin started to stop, they dumped a lot of snow on the cheering kids.
They stop cheering for a moment, but then take up the cheer again anyway.
The penguin slides to a halt and it pushes the kid off.
The penguin gets up, looks at him, and then turns and waddles away.
The kid turned twords the young girl and boy from earlier.
"Hey Katara! Hey Sokka!"
"Hey... Aang." The guy- Sokka, replied dryly.
So that was their names.
Aang looks over at the Firebenders.
As his grey eyes landed on Reyna, she stopped.
She felt her blood run cold.
He looked, confused, almost as if he felt it too.
This whole ordeal gave Zuko enough time to get on his feet.
He assumed a firebending stance.
Aang stood there, ready with his staff, though he was surrounded by Zuko and his crew.
They begin to close in, all but Reyna, but Aang blows the men on either side of him backwards with blasts of air.
He blasts Zuko as well, but the scared prince holds his ground, shielding his face from the wind.
"Looking for me?"
Reyna felt herself frozen at those words.
It was true, this Avatar was alive!
Zuko looked... confused.
"You're the airbender? You're the Avatar?"
He wasn't the only one confused.
"Aang?" The girl- Katara, seemed to not believe what she was hearing.
Not the Sokka. "No way."
Zuko and Aang started to maneuver for a position against each other in the middle of a village, which had seemed to become an arena.
"I've spent years preparing for this encounter." Anger started to seem into Zuko's voice. "Training. Meditating. You're just a child!"
"Well, you're just a teenager."
Not the best thing to say.
Zuko fired blast after blast.
Aang let out a cry, fear showing in his face.
The airbender dissipated each blast as it strikes by twirling his staff in front of him like a helicopter blade (whatever that is).
The dissipation didn't block the fire from reaching the villagers.
As the hot embers neared them, some let out cries.
Aang looked behind them and seemed to realize that he couldn't protect them all.
He deflected one last hit before stopping. "If I go with you, will you promise to leave everyone alone?"
After a brief pause, Zuko straightened up and nodded stiffly.
He looked at Reyna, silently assigning her a job.
She stepped forward and placed a hand onto Aang's shoulder.
Despite her thick gloves, a small shock hit her as she made contact.
Doing her best to ignore it, she guided Aang into the frame of the ship.
A different soldier took his staff.
Katara rushed forward in a panic.
" No, Aang! Don't do this!"
Aang gave her a hopeful look. "Don't worry, Katara, it'll be okay. Take care of Appa for me until I get back."
Zuko walked in front of them, confidant building with each step. "Head a course to the Fire Nation." He ordered. "I'm going home."
Then he was gone.
As they board the ship, and the bowsprit rises back up, Aang looked back at the village, his gaze not losing the spark they carried.
Reyna noticed Katara starting to tear up as the ship closed. As soon as the shadow hit Aang's face, his smile melted into a frown.
The gilt that had been living in her from the beginning of the invasion only grew, as well as the tinge in her fingers.
When they were back on the ship, Zuko took Aang's staff from the hands of one of his soldiers.
Aang, himself, was still close to Reyna, her hand still placed onto his shoulder.
"This staff will make an excellent gift for my father. I suppose you wouldn't know of fathers, being raised by monks." He turned to Reyna. "Take the Avatar to the prison hold-" He handed the staff to Iroh, "-and take this to my quarters."
Iroh took the staff as Zuko walked away. Iroh immediately turns to the guard on his left.
"Hey, you mind taking this to his quarters for me?"
Just as Zuko had ordered, Reyna escorted Aang down to the ship's prison.
She hated ever second of it.
At first the two walked in complete awkward silence.
Until-
"So... I guess you never fought an airbender before." He sounded more calm than he had looked a few seconds earlier. "I bet I can take you with my hands tied behind my back."
Reyna couldn't help but smile under her helmet.
"Really?" She asked, before she could stop herself. "You think so?"
"Yup!" He gave her a large smile. "Sure can."
"Well, I'll have you know that you're not the only one who has trained as an airbender."
That made him stop in his track.
His light eyes met her dark ones as she turned her head to face him.
His widened.
The continued to widen as Reyna lit her finder ablaze and burnt away his bind.
He rubbed his wrist.
"Thanks?"
"Don't thank me yet." Reyna pointed down the hall. "Your staff will be in Zuko's room. That's up a few flights of stairs and take a left. You can't miss it. Trust me."
Aang nodded, but didn't move.
"Why are you helping me? Aren't you with Zuko?"
Reyna thought before answering.
"Yes." She chose to say. "But I... I don't want the Fire Nation to win this war. You need to help them. Teach them to be better. Alright?"
He nodded again, still a bit dazed.
When he didn't move, she snapped a few times in front of his face.
"What are you waiting for? Go! Get your staff and off this ship. And while you're at it, give Zuko a bit of a fight will ya. He owes me."
Aang jerked his head in attention, then ran off, leaving a trail of dust in his footsteps.
'I hope I don't regret that later' Reyna though as she started to follow.
"The Avatar has escaped!"
Reyna gasped for air as she reached the top of the stairs.
Pandemonium had started as the news traveled around.
Crew members ran around the ship, trying to stop Aang before he got off.
Neither Iroh nor Zuko had been seen.
Reyna pretended to be as panicked as the others.
A few moments later, she noticed the windows of Zuko's room flaring with fire.
'He must have met Zuko.' She though, silently praying to the spirits that her future self was OK.
Sure enough, a few minutes after the lighting had stopped, Reyna spotted Aang leaping from the bridge's observation deck.
He opened his glider, throwing it into the air and jumping after it.
He catches it, a pure expression on his face.
Unfortunately, behind him, Zuko had followed after him in pursuit.
With a fierce cry of desperation, he leaped after the Avatar and grabbed Aang's foot.
Both got up and began to square off again.
Reyna couldn't help but roll her eyes as she started to run after them. Suddenly, a large shadow covered the deck.
Reyna looked up, spotting something.
A flying bison!
She used to have one.
She had named him Lai-Lai.
"What is that?" Asked Zuko, pausing.
"Appa!" Cried Aang, joy written on his face.
Aang turned just in time to use his staff to block a fire blast from Zuko.
He twirled his staff as a helicopter to escape the blasts and came back down on the edge of the deck, almost falling overboard.
He somehow regained his balance and blew three more fireballs before his staff was knocked away from him.
He dodges a few more blasts before he is finally knocked overboard.
Aang falls into the water below.
From the bison, the girl from earlier, Katara, shouted. "AANG! NO!"
Reyna stopped.
No.
This couldn't be happening. Aang couldn't be-
In one swift moment, an explosion from the water came, leading to Aang breaking the surface and towering over the bridge atop his swirling maelstrom of water.
His eyes and tattoos were glowing.
Reyna knew what this was.
The Avatar State.
Something that she had done only once.
Zuko, who was looking up at the swirling column of water, looked both dismayed and scared.
Aang landed on the deck, his eyes still aglow, and bended the water from the column around him in a circle.
He released it and it expands outward in a shock wave that blasted Zuko and his men overboard.
Reyna used an earthbending move to stay on board the ship.
Just as it had happened, the powerful bending stopped.
Aang landed onto his knees, wobbling after the huge energy expenditure.
He fell forward, the white energy fading from his eyes and tattoos.
Appa landed and Katara and Sokka jumped off to retrieve Aang.
Reyna slowly made her way twords the trio.
Katara sounded worried. "Aang! Are you okay?"
Katara knelt and held Aang, Sokka stood next to her.
Aang was completely drained. "Hey Katara. Hey Sokka. Thanks for coming."
Sokka shrugged. "Well, I couldn't let you have all the glory."
"Ha." Said Reyna, walking closer. "You sound like Rezu."
Immediately, Sokka and Katara were on guard.
Reyna help up her hands, showing that she was unarmed.
"It's ok guys." Aang said weakly. "She helped me escape.
Katara looked at Reyna with weakness.
Sokka just frowned like he couldn't believe it.
When Aang spoke again, all attention as back on him. "I dropped my staff."
Sokka ran over to it. "Got it!"
As he picked it up, Sokka jerked back.
Zuko, even though he had been washed overboard, had held onto the part of Aang's staff that was hanging out over the deck.
Sokka butts Zuko in the head with the staff three times.
Zuko let go and fell into the water below.
Before he hit the water, he grabbed the anchor chain in time.
Reyna would have felt bad, if not for Zuko being Zuko.
"Ha!" Sokka shouted triumphantly. "That's from the Water Tribe!"
Appa got up, shaking off some water.
That wasn't the end of the fight.
Some of the guards who had been slowly coming back to their since started preparing for combat.
Reyna stepped back into the background, not wanting to be blamed later on.
Katara picked up a stream of water from the deck, making the guards pull back slightly in fear.
HA, Cowards!
She tried to whip the guards with the water, but instead freezes the water on the deck, including the water around Sokka's feet.
"Katara!"
Sokka started to chip away at the ice holding his feet with his boomerang while the soldiers moved forward once again.
Katara picked up another stream of water and threw it at the soldiers without looking.
That worked.
All of the soldiers not were encased in ice.
Reyna once again, had to control her laughter.
"Hurry up, Sokka!" Katara yelled.
Sokka, talking to himself, muttered, "I'm just a guy with a boomerang; I didn't ask for all this flying and magic."
Me neither, Sokka, me neither.
He finally freed himself and runs up Appa's tail.
"Yip yip! Yip yip!"
Once he is onboard, Appa rumbled and took off.
Iroh who has just emerged onto the deck after his nap, looked up to the sky.
"Huh?"
Reyna shrugged. "You'll find out soon. Don't worry."
Appa rapidly flew away from the ship.
Zuko, who had been helped back onboard by Iroh and Reyna, didn't look happy.
"Shoot them down!"
As Appa gained altitude, Zuko and Iroh, in unison, launched a massive bolt of fire at the bison.
Reyna didn't help them.
Aang used his staff to his staff to hit the fireball back in the ship's direction.
It hit a nearby mountain, throwing ice everywhere.
Zuko gasped in horror as the bow of the ship and the entire channel was blocked up under an avalanche of ice.
She took off her helmet, letting the cool wind touch her looked up at the bison.
She had a strange feeling that Aang was looking back.
Zuko was beyond angry.
He was fuming.
"Good news for the Fire Lord." Said Iroh. "The nation's greatest threat is just a little kid."
"That kid, Uncle, just did this." He motioned to the whole deck. "I won't underestimate him again. Dig this ship out and follow them!"
Reyna tapped his shoulder, then pointed at some soldiers who were using controlled firebending to thaw out their compatriots who were still frozen.
"As soon as you're done with that."
There you go! Episode Two!
I hoped you liked it as much as I liked writing it!
It only took a few days to write it, which was surprising.
Unfortunate, since school is starting soon, I don't be able to start the next chapter for a while. Sorry.
Reyna and Aang finally met. I know I didn't put this in the chapter, but Aang also felt the tingly feeling that Reyna has been feeling. Technically, they were both birth with the Avatar spirit inside them. Reyna still has the spirit in her. How will this affect future events? You just have to wait to find out...
