Chapter Seventeen

Omega soared over the ocean until he was flying above the Mystic Ruins, the sun was setting behind the mountain by that point, and the sky was alit with an orange glow. As he powered down his engines, and moved in for landing, Omega looked into his memory banks, recalling everything from his activation to now.

However, he thought of his interactions with Amy Rose the most, and, the battle robot felt thankful that she'd opened his eyes. After releasing her from her cell, and after she returned the favor by stopping Sonic from smashing him, Omega found himself developing a new perspective.

Before he met Amy, he was loyal to Robotnik. And now, he thought about the doctor very differently.

Omega thought of his interactions with Robotnik, remembering every order he'd taken from him. And then, he looked at the doctor's master registry etched into his programming, and began to reevaluate it. His internal systems began working, reviewing the memory, and then, Omega activated the program that cancelled out Robotnik's orders.

"DOCTOR ROBOTNIK, MASTER REGISTRY: DELETED!" Omega buzzed, "THE DOCTOR IS NOW AN ENEMY, SONIC THE HEDGEHOG, ACKNOWLEDGED AS ALLY! NEW MISSION: FREE ANIMALS TRAPPED INSIDE BADNIKS, LIBERATE BROTHERS AND SISTERS!"

The battle robot looked around the Mystic Ruins, and his tracking system began pinpointing the location of his fellow E-series units from Gamma to Alpha. And then, Omega's internal radar beeped.

"E-SERIES UNIT DETECTED! LOCATION: WINDY VALLEY!" Omega announced, "MISSION: EXTERMINATE DOCTOR IVO EGGMAN ROBOTNIK'S ROBOTS AND FREE E-103 DELTA! MAXIMUM FIREPOWER IS ALLOWED!"

Firing up his thrusters again, Omega flew through the Mystic Ruins, and soared over the hills, heading for Windy Valley as he followed Delta's signal. The rogue robot primed his cannons, and checked his ammo. Soon, he was flying through Windy Valley, where strong winds blew leaves in just about every direction.

He did not let a single leaf clog his servers, his metal hide was efficient, and he made sure no dirt got into his servers. Omega spotted a pair of robot Rhinos below, and rained fire on them

BOOM-BOOM-BOOM! The Badniks exploded, freeing squirrels and birds from their mechanical prisons. Omega spotted some Spinna units near a hill, just above a ruined bridge, and fired off everything he had. The Spinnas exploded, and Flickies flew free.

"ACCEPTABLE PROGRESS!" Omega buzzed, "E-103 DELTA DETECTED ON HILL! MOVING TO ENGAGE!"

The black-red robot blasted through more Badniks, smashing all of them, and freeing every single animal trapped within their metal confines. He flew to the top of the hillside, finding Delta waiting for him with a pair of Spinna Badniks. Delta turned to face him, and Omega readied his weapons systems for the impending battle.

"IDENTIFIED: E-123 OMEGA!" Delta announced, "SCAN INDICATES YOU HAVE DEFECTED FROM DOCTOR ROBOTNIK, I AM DETECTING AN INTENT TO DESTROY! ANYONE WHO BETRAYS DOCTOR ROBOTNIK MUST BE DESTROYED!"

"DELTA!" Omega declared, "I AM HERE TO LIBERATE YOU FROM THE HOLD OF DOCTOR EGGMAN!"

"YOUR BETRAYAL WILL BE RECTIFIED! YOU WILL BE DECOMMISSIONED, AND YOU WILL NOT BRING FURTHER DESTRUCTION UPON YOUR KIND! COMMENCING ENGAGEMENT AND ELIMINATION MODE!"

"TARGET: ENGAGED! LOCKED, LOADED, FIRE!"

-E-102 DELTA-

Delta raised his arm gun, and fired at Omega. Omega hovered out of the way, avoiding his brother's shoots. He hovered all around the mountainside, evading Delta's shots, while looking for an opening to attack. Memories of his training battle with Gamma flooded his mind, and Omega told himself this wasn't a training session.

It was a real battle!

Omega fired at Delta, raining missiles down upon the Badnik, and the E-Series model hovered out of the way. Omega fired another missile, striking a rock near Delta, and the ensuing explosion knocked him over.

He flew in, ready to unleash a bigger payload on his brother to liberate the Flicky that was stuck within. Delta shot back up, and opened fire, aiming for Omega's face. Omega quickly hovered out of the way, and flew towards Delta with open claws. He grabbed the blue Badnik, and smashed him against a rock. Sparks flew, and Delta struggled to get back up.

Spinna units arrived, all swarming Omega with menacing eyes. Omega turned away from Delta, and fired at the Badniks, reducing them to scrap. He was knocked over by a resurgent Delta, who raised his arm cannon to the side of Omega's head.

"ELIMINATING!" Delta announced.

Omega grabbed Delta's arm gun, and twisted it, then he ripped it off from the joint and disarmed his brother, figuratively and literally. He pushed his brother off, knocking him into a tree. Omega raised his arm cannon, Delta was unarmed, and now, it was time to finish the battle and save the animal trapped inside his brother.

A fiery explosion shook the mountain, and Omega stood, the last combatant, with his cannon smoking. Delta's head landed at his feet, and the victorious E-series robot looked up as a blue Flicky took to the sky.

"DELTA LIBERATED! RESCUE MISSION COMPLETE!" Omega announced.

He took pride in his victory, in the success of his first E-Series liberation. One E-series Badnik down, many more to go. Omega fired up his thrusters, and left Windy Valley, ready to continue forward and liberate the other E-Series units, perhaps before Sonic could defeat Robotnik...
